Great first experience! Have specials monthly I believe! Initially came in for the chicken an waffles but the burbon carrot cake pancakes caught my attention! Had to ofcourse try the corn beef hash and they did not skimp out or disapoint! Had an ice coffee from any of the flavors from their wall (maybe like 40 flavors or more.) Classic diner fare in a good way - huge menu selection, large portions, and decent prices. We came here with a group of six on a Saturday, and there was a bit of a crowd, but the wait wasn't too bad (10-15 min). From the table, the feedback was positive for the pancakes, sandwiches, and breakfast burrito. The chicken & waffles portion size was huge, but overall execution was a bit lacking (over-breaded chicken, under-spiced sriracha syrup). Was looking for a new brunch place without the wait of Bella's, particularly one that offered pancakes ( my favorite food). As the self-proclaimed best pancakes in the state, SSC did not disappoint. My blueberry pancakes were filled with fresh berries, fluffy, huge, and perfectly sweet thanks to the powdered sugar topping. We also got the Cinco de Mayo chorizo eggs benedict special which was good, not great, and a little odd because they were stingy with giving us packets of hot sauce. I do also have to dock a point because of the lack of price transparency for the specials menu since we were surprised to see the $20 charge for the eggs (which seemed a bit high given the portion of meat). We did go Sunday around 1PM which seemed like a peak post-church brunch time but while the waiting room was full when we walked in, we had to wait a reasonable 20 minutes (much better than the hour-plus wait at Bella's). So I must say ; I feel catfished ..... this place has incredible reviews on yelp so I thought i was going to be pleasantly surprised; well was I wrong . Let's start off with not having freshly squeezed orange juice ; any real breakfast spot will for sure have freshly squeezed orange juice - yet when I asked for it the waiter looked at me like I had 3 heads and didn't provide any other options - just stared at me awkwardly . I let that slide , and ordered bottled orange juice instead ; from here my friend ordered chicken and waffles and guess what he got - chicken fingers and waffles; what a disappointment. My grits were like cold peanut butter - and my egg Benedict was just ok . When I go to a place that has over 4.5 stars on yelp I expect the rating to live up to its name - yet that was not the case here . Will say the place has a lot of potential , great location , awesome amount of parking and plenty of seating . My boyfriend and I came here for brunch. I had their special Ruben, which was very interesting. It had this delicious caramelized onion spread with jalapeños, and the jalapeños were very sweet instead of spicy. I ordered some sauerkraut on the side just because I really wanted to have that Ruben taste to it. It was really good and the sourdough bread was fresh and crisp and it was toasted perfectly. My boyfriend had a Barbacoa eggs Benedict and it was amazing. The meat was so juicy and tender. Our server was so polite to us and she was very attentive and she came by frequently to ask if we needed our coffee refilled. The interior was nice as well and it was cozy and cute. Stopped in for breakfast before taking my son to the airport. We were told that this place has a good steak burrito. Food: My bf ordered a steak burrito with home fries and OJ, I ordered the Florentine Benny, and my son ordered the oreo cookie pancakes. We did do a bit of research and discovered that the pancakes were rated the top in the state. So we acknowledged (my bf and I) that we messed up with what we ordered. The steak was not seasoned. It didn't have enough steak inside the burrito. The home fries were good. Surprisingly, the Oj didn't taste too good. I'm not sure how OJ can be off, but it wasn't the best. My Benny had untoasted English muffin, and the hollandaise sauce was a bit thick and cold. They had a bit too much spinach on the Florentine. I did eat most of it due to me being extremely hungry. The hashbrown was crispy and crunchy, and they provided 2 pieces. My son's oreo pancakes were super delicious, he said. We did see on Yelp that they had a reese's pancake dish, but when asked, the waitress said they don't have that. We are aware that they may change up their menu and thought maybe she wasn't aware. Or we could be totally wrong. I only took a Pic of his pancakes. Service: The waitress was okay. It was quick service as we arrived about 2 hour after they opened. They were a bit packed. We waited for about 5 to 10 mins, maybe before being seated. Ambiance: It's a local restaurant. Family friendly. It's small but has a decent size parking lot. It looks small on the outside, but it has a pretty good size of seating. Based on all of our dishes, I would go back to try their pancakes as they were rated the best in the state. Went based on how high the reviews were for breakfast last Wednesday morning. Ordered the Denver omelette and a side of bacon. What I got was burnt eggs with raw peppers, no cheese, watery grits and bacon that was cooked with a flamethrower. Came here recently on a day off with friends and family. It was my third time here and no matter what time I come it is always busy! I've never waited more than 15 minutes but there's always a bit of a wait. You won't be seated until your whole party is there but as soon as your whole group arrives you are seated very quickly. Our waitress was friendly and attentive. They had some interesting specials going, but the majority of our group picked things off the main menu, French toast, pancakes, chicken and waffles, a couple salads, and grilled chicken meal. They have the most delicious salads which was perfect for the vegan person in our party. They also have a kids menu, which also came in handy for our group. I had the spinach salad and added grilled chicken. The portion size was very generous. My husband didn't leave anything behind with his chicken and waffles either (always a good sign). Paying of the check is quick and efficient with two touch screen monitors at the counter streamlining the process. The food at this place is delicious. The pancakes say they are the "best in the state" but hands down their French toast is the best I ever had and I live in Chicago, lots of good breakfast! My husband got a side order of sausage patties and it was 3 large patties (great flavor). The service was great and we sat at the diner bar to be seated immediately. They do have a drive thru I noticed on the way out which was cool! There were people waiting in line when we got there on a weekday so it is a popular spot. We had heard great things about State Street Cafe's breakfast, and when we found out that they had a tsunami s'mores pancake special AND were recognized as the best pancakes in the state, we had to come visit! We arrived by 8:30 on a Saturday morning figuring we could beat the rush, but they were already very busy! Luckily we managed to get a seat, but by the time we left there was a line of people waiting. Truly a testament to how good State Street is! The pancakes were a sweet tooth lover's dream, and besides all of the sugary toppings, the pancakes themselves were really good and deserving of their recognition. My fiancé needs protein and something savory for breakfast, so he really enjoyed their southerner special. I took a bite too, and we agreed that the homemade sausage was fantastic. This place is one of my go-to breakfast spots. They have a large menu with basically everything imaginable. I have only been for breakfast but they do have an extensive lunch selection also. There are photos of the menu here on Yelp. I have only included the omelet section since, here in my review, that is what I have to comment on. If you visit on the weekend call ahead to put your name on the list because, even then, you will still wait. The place is big with a lot of seating but they tend to take a long time with their service. We waited a while before our order was taken and then even longer to get our check when we were finished! The omelet I had on this visit was the Big Mac. I was not that impressed. There were way too many tomatoes on top and their "Mac sauce" didn't even taste like Big Mac sauce... it tasted like Mayo mixed with ketchup. Also, they need to put more meat into it, there was barely any. My last visit here I had the South of the Border and, lemme tell you, that was definitely worth ordering again! That one was really good and had just enough of everything in it. Wish I took a picture that time. My breakfast co-pilot had a regular cheese omelet which she gave two thumbs up on! Oh, I also got grits and those grits are VERY good every time I come and (look at my picture) they give you so much of them!!! They are reasonably priced and are good on filling up your coffee cup. They lost one star from me for making us wait to order and get our final check. Aside from that, we will definitely be coming here again. You only get one opportunity to have a last restaurant meal in 2018 so I was in a bit of a quandary, finally settling on SSC for breakfast after giving due consideration to a number of alternatives. You may or may not be interested in the factors I considered in choosing SSC, but I am going to tell you anyways. a) we had never dined there before, b) it consistently receives great reviews on social media and c) the online menu listed crab cake "bennies". Was I disappointed after making the 27 minute drive or the 12 minute and 32 second wait for a table? Not in the least. On arriving, we put our name in with the hostess before settling in on a bench in the waiting area along with several other parties. When we were finally called, the very pleasant hostess ushered us to a table for 2. My wife had a difficult time deciding since there were so many appetizing menu items, finally settling on the bananas Foster style French toast. I hardly bothered to open my menu since I was having "crab cake bennies". The French toast arrived topped with a multitude of sliced bananas, slivered almonds, whipped cream and caramel sauce. My serving of "crab cake bennies" was very large and included a side of home fries that were the best I have had in years. The eggs were a tad overdone for my taste which runs to runny, though I accept full responsibility for not specifying. My wife never had the chance to contemplate whether her cup of coffee was half full or half empty because our server was always there to warm it up for her. Will we be returning? Here's the thing about state street cafe. the food is good, but it takes extremely long to be seated. There is a lack of efficiency when it comes to the wait and it can take up an hour plus. They never tell you an accurate wait time and you can often find yourself spending your whole morning waiting. I've experienced multiple visits where there is open tables that aren't being sat. I don't recommend state street unless you have your calendar cleared for the whole morning maybe even the afternoon as well read more

Nice Quaint breakfast spot! (I enjoy breakfast/brunch and the like). I was trying their breakfast for the first time, so I sat at a table (my Waitress suggested I could sit anywhere) and almost immediately the cashier interjected that I have to sit at the bar since I was dining alone‐ my Waitress stepped in and cleared me sitting at a table since they were sooo slow-phew. I ordered a Western omelet, dry with cheddar, it came with homefries and toast. I also ordered a hot coffee. The Omelet was just ok, the peppers and onions were a tad bit too big, so I had to cut them smaller to enjoy the Omelet, also it seemed to be disconnected somehow, they scrambled eggs on the grill, then sautéed some peppers, onions & ham, then added the mixture on top, cheddar cheese and folded it...it's over. The whole wheat toast was good and the homefries had rosemary mixed in with salt and pepper! Who Cooks homefries for breakfast and uses rosemary?‐ not very appetizing because it's too strong a herb for breakfast and you will taste it for several hours. Coffee was hot (just like I like it) and my Waitress kept pouring...she was very efficient and checked on me often. Cost was $23.00 for breakfast and tip. I spoke to the cashier while paying my bill and questioned about the rosemary scented homefries‐ her remark was "it's always like that, and that's why I don't eat them... not the response I was looking for, but oh ok, I kept it pushing. I wanted to give them another try, so a few days later, I ordered a breakfast sandwich to go: I ordered a chicken sausage (which was one of the best I've tasted), sandwich on Multigrain toast, fried eggs and cheddar cheese. I thoroughly enjoyed the sandwich which cost around $6.68. The toast, chicken savory sausage was tops along with cheddar infused eggs, over hard, break the yoke, all I can say was yummmmm.
