State Street Kitchen of Newtown, PA - a fantastic experience of warmth and engagement and yes, the breakfast was nicely done and affordable. The owner, upon presenting the menu said, if you don't see what you want simply ask. I asked her favorite and she prepared a special omelette. The outside looks like a piece of crap but the inside was quaint and professional. Misha, the owner, shared a selfie with me and one of the patrons came over to our table, after he finished his meal, and jawboned with us about the local community lore. True engagement, Priceless! State Street Kitchen is NO LONGER open Friday nights for dinner. The menu leaned toward Korean cuisine, complete with stainless steel bowls, chop sticks, and special hot sauces to heat your pallet and warm the soul. The crowd is quite different than who you see at breakfast and lunch. It seems like many of Micha's friends come down to hang out with her. They bring wine or harder stuff for all to share, and often pick up a mix of desserts to pass around. Sort of like a pot luck. This is a great direction for this small house. With the right people working the kitchen, expanding to other nights would be a boon to nighttime State Street. read more

State Street Kitchen's sandwiches and wraps are amazing. The owners really try to get close with their customers. Some of the specials are even named after the customers who order special sandwiches. The owners fuse Korean food with tradition American food, like their Kimchi Chicken Cheese Steak. Occasionally, I'll grab breakfast from here as I'm driving into work (literally I'll be on the phone placing an order as I'm driving). I always order an egg and cheese wrap on a gluten free wrap. Although many gluten-free items don't compare to their glutenous counterparts, State Streets gluten free wraps aren't bad at all. I actually enjoy the extra crunch it has. read more

Sadly average. A real shame too, because if it was good I'd probably be stopping by a few days a week based on their convenient location. The cashier was nice enough, joking about how they weren't a fancy operation and how the coffee was self serve. The food service was very slow. It took over 20 minutes to get our food with just 2 other people eating there. Not sure what the hold up was. Perhaps they were working on a take out order. As for the food, we got omelettes, bacon, toast, etc. Pretty straightforward order that a place like this should knock out of the park. Unfortunately, the eggs were average, under-seasoned, and barely warm. Bacon was okay, but undercooked a touch (and we requested that it be crispy). Coffee was bitter and simply awful to drink. You could just tell the beans they were using were low quality. All in all, there wasn't much to like here aside from the staff's smiling faces. Two stars from me. read more

Stopped by for breakfast. Got omelet, hash browns and orange juice. Waited longer than I expected. Got busy right after j ordered. Breakfast was served on a paper plate. I had water from the soda fountain and it tasted off. The orange juice was bottled and didn't taste great. The omelette wasn't anything special and the bacon wasn't chopped enough and hard to eat with plastic utensils. The hash browns had no flavor and salt couldn't save them. The price was good and maybe I got the wrong thing but not a great breakfast experience. It's the type of place that locals say is great but i think they want it to be greater than it really is. Nice place, but the food was mostly hit or miss. One of the most important things to note is the outstanding, exceptional, out-of-this-world customer service. The owner clearly values her customers a lot. Definitely knows the regular customers on a first-name basis, which is absolutely a wonderful thing to see. It is so rare to see that these days. For that reason alone, I have to give the place a lot of credit! On to the food. We got a selection of items. Namely, chili; a bacon, egg, and cheese on a kaiser; French toast; a slice of scrapple; and a State Street wrap. A lot of it was hit or miss, honestly. My friend absolutely loves scrapple and said the scrapple from here was some of the worst she's ever had in her life. She said it was incredibly burnt-tasting and gross. I also have to say that the State Street wrap was awful. Something, I think the home fries, made it taste so bad! The French toast was actually really wonderful, though. We both agreed that it was the best part of the meal. The chili was also good, but (obviously) not fresh as it was breakfast time. And the bacon, egg, and cheese was decent. The bread was a little overdone and hard on the bottom, though. Overall, I'd probably come back for the French toast. I won't venture to try any more unfamiliar things, though, because it was money wasted as we had to trash the scrapple and wrap. read more

After hearing great things about the State Street Kitchen, I had to give it a shot. I love a good breakfast, and they're hard to come by, so I kept my expectations low. When I saw the "carmelized (sic) banana nut pancakes, I knew I had to order them. They turned out to be even better than I hoped! There were two pancakes, each as big as the plate, filled with wonderful, brown, gooey bananas with a light crisp on the outside. Oh, so good! I'll definitely be back, but maybe next time I'll come for kimchi cheesesteak at lunch! After breakfast, I bought some kimchi to take home and Misha gave me recommendations for how to make kimchi steamed fish with it. Now that's great service! Highly recommended. But go early because there is only seating for 20 and it fills up fast. read more

I love going to this place. The food is amazing and the service is great. The owner is so nice and friendly. My favorite meal to get here is the bibimbap bowl. I reccomend it to everyone. It can get pretty busy but the food is worth the wait. The locations great too it's the perfect place to stop in and grab a bite while out and about shopping. Its a cloudy Friday and my phone notification went off advising a fellow elite member checked in at the State Street Kitchen in Newtown, PA. I looked at the review and decided to try it out for lunch. Newtown is a cute community with tons of history and old buildings. After finding a parking spot I walked in around 1145 am and was greeted by the owner, a very sweet Asian woman. The decor is vintage with old wooden floors and old wooden counter. After seeing the photo of the Thanksgiving Day Wrap on yelp I decide to treat my taste buds 2 months early. However nothing accompanied the sandwich so I had to order French fries. I sat down facing State St. And enjoyed the views. My meal came out warm and fresh. This sandwich is not fake, the turkey, stuffing and cranbury were delicious. However the chef only put cranbury sauce on one side of my sandwich. I could not get upset because the owner is to darn polite and sweet. All in all the meal was good and the sandwich was $7.99. For a good price and nice portion sandwich the state street kitchen will do. I will return to try another dish, however this is just a very quaint deli. read more

Also love the super crispy fries, homemade choc chip cookies, bimbimbap, state street wrap (eggs, bacon, etc.), and grilled veggie sub w. pesto. Cute cozy small place, seats 27 cozy.. Ordered portabella on greens with chicken red peppets, cucumber, tomato,... This was the best salad lunch I have had in a long time. So I ordered a chicken soup and again amazing. The only downside some may have is paper plated and plsdtic utensils. I will definately be coming back again. read more

I've known Misha forever. Since she used to have her shop in the Newtown Farmer's Market! As a kid, I wanted pizza as most kids did. Thus, her invention of the Pizza Meatball Sub. Best...thing...EVER! Now she makes everything from fluffy, buttery, delicious pancakes, to the cheesesteak, to a soup that can cure the flu (kid you not, my mother gets the soup whenever she feels remotely ill and she gets better a day later). This woman's brilliance in the kitchen shows no boundaries and her staff are wonderful and friendly and upbeat. AND this was where my husband and I ate on our first date!!! The fact that this family owned business offers traditional American foods along with some fusion Korean food is the reason we keep coming back. The owner is so personably and sweet: remembers her customers and always has a smile on her face. Excellent food! It looks like everything here is made from scratch, you just can't get any fresher than that! I have tried the kimchi cheesesteak, excellent and spicy. The last time I was here I tried the beef bi bim bop and a side of cold kimchi, yes I like things spicy! These were excellent choices. If your not sure about Asian cuisine talk to them and they will give you good suggestions to try based on your tastes! Small place, very clean kept and a very nice staff to talk to. Finishing errands in the area, we stopped in here for a late lunch after an eenie meenie miny moe of eateries on the block. Perfect choice. Familiar offerings for my husband and more adventurous ones for me. Husband ordered a burger and fries - and I spotted the Korean classic Bi Bim Bop on the blackboard. A steel bowl arrived, full of colorful components carefully arranged on a bed of brown rice: bright green cold spinach and other vegetables, thinly sliced curly fronds of grilled seasoned beef, a fried egg, and a drizzle of spicy sauce. It was superb. Complimenting the owner, she mentioned that they serve several dozen of these at lunch time - it is one of the most popular dishes on the menu. I've been wanting to come here for AGES. Every time I've ever even looked at this place, it was packed with a line practically out the door. I decided to take a peak before hitting Tyler today since I wanted to get some breakfast in me. To my complete amazement, the place was absolutely empty. It was amazing. I ran right in and was greeted by the sweetest little lady. She was super friendly. I ordered a spinach and feta omelet with a side of hash browns and rye toast. I also helped myself to some coffee. My order came up quick. It was decent. I did order pretty basic food, so it didn't get too over the top for me. The home fries had a nice flavor, but I like mine a little on the crispy side. I was well aware that it costs extra to add home fries to an omelet order, which I think is slightly odd, but I didn't mind paying for it. Sriracha availability made me happy. I was satisfied. Everyone there is SO friendly and personable. I think my order was almost 14 bucks. I also grabbed a coconut water and a pack of gum for the road. I filled my coffee cup up for a third time, thanked everyone and left. It was a positive experience. I'm very interested in going back for lunch (that Kimchi cheesesteak was calling to me) to try something different. It had a very positive vibe. I liked it. read more

Breakfast: I highly recommend asking for a western omelette made with kimchi. I have this almost every Sunday with wheat toast. By far my favorite breakfast in Newtown. Had lunch here today. The owner is Korean so she has infused Korean touches to the menu. Some of the menu options include kimchi cheesesteak! How appropriate for suburb of Philly, Newtown! I chose buckwheat noodle salad. I'm Korean so I'm familiar with the traditional Korean noodle dish and I was amazed she had managed to Americanize it without compromising flavors. I was not a fan of the chicken in the salad but I think most ppl probably would like it. However; I loved everything else about it!!! I think I would have liked it better with tofu.
