I am absolutely fed up with this Stater Bros. in Big Bear Lake. I have been shopping at grocery stores for a long time, and I have never been this frustrated with a store on such a regular basis. Every time I go in there, it seems like something is wrong. The lines are too long, the service is slow, and the attitude from some of the employees is just unbelievable. I don't know what happened to common courtesy or customer service, but it sure isn't happening here. You walk up to the checkout and sometimes the employees act like you're bothering them just by being there. I'm sorry, but I'm the customer. I'm spending my money here. The least I expect is to be treated with some basic respect. And don't even get me started on the lines. You can stand there waiting and waiting while you're watching the clock, wondering why it takes so long to get through a grocery store. It's ridiculous. If the store is busy, then have enough people working to handle the customers. This isn't rocket science. The whole store just has a miserable feeling to it. Employees look unhappy, customers are frustrated, and management seems completely disconnected from what is actually happening on the sales floor. Someone needs to take responsibility and start fixing these problems instead of pretending everything is fine. I've lived long enough to remember when going to the grocery store wasn't such a stressful experience. You used to be greeted with a smile, people actually cared about helping you, and customers were treated with respect. Now it feels like you are lucky if you can get through the checkout without being frustrated. I am tired of spending my hard earned money at a place where I leave more aggravated than when I walked in. Stater Bros. needs to seriously get its act together. Management needs to listen to the customers and start addressing the problems instead of ignoring them. This location has a lot of room for improvement. Better customer service, better staffing, better attitudes, and better management would be a good place to start. I'm not asking for special treatment. I'm asking for the same basic courtesy and respect that every paying customer deserves. This store has always been clean and well-organized. There's a decent variety of products. The staff is well trained and always pretty helpful. The cold cases in the deli and produce areas look like they're regularly cleaned and maintained so that there are no untoward odors. Pretty impressive. The Market Cafe deli section had lots of munchie samples to try. Today, there were salsa samples,sushi samples, and apple cider samples...yum. Be careful in the parking lot. Had a store manager named Samuel make some racially charged comments towards me in the checkstand because I was buying some Ranchero. When I asked to speak to the store manager all he had to say was that he was busy and I could file a complaint with him. What a joke. It's hard to imagine how you can have such terrible food. I can't tell you how many times I have thrown out watermelon cut up watermelon because it was nasty but you can't keep driving back-and-forth to the market to return garbage. This one star review has nothing to do with the employees at this Stater Bros. My comments are directed towards corporate. The remodel a few years ago has been a bust. No fresh, made to order sandwiches in the new, big deli. The cart corral is a complete joke. Wasted space at the front of the store and now the lines go all the way back to the meat counter during the busy season. Whoever decided this was the way to go is an idiot. NOW, you have gotten rid of courtesy clerks. Checking out was already longer due to the stupid California plastic bag bs. The clerks are now expected to bag the groceries and assist customers away from the register. Does that make sense? Does a clerk have to close down their register to help someone out to their car with groceries? Do the people just stand in line waiting? You have created more work for your employees with, I'm sure, not a raise in pay. I guess getting rid of courtesy clerks put a few more dollars in your pockets. I will continue to shop here because I live in a small town and love the employees, but do better Stater Bros. "Fresh Affordable Community First" is your current slogan. stater bros supermarket in big bear, is always busy. it kicks butt all over vons, across the street. they always are busy, but despite the crowds, they always have plenty of cashiers, and the lines move quickly. von's on the other hand, has way too few cashiers. long lines, with only 2 or 3 cashiers, and very few clerk's helpers to sack your groceries. vins tries hard to get customers to use "self checkout"., instead of hiring or employing more cashiers and clerk's helpers. staters does far, far greater business than von's. there is only 2 items, that vons carries, that staters does not. otherwise, 99 % of my grocery shopping is done at staters supermarket. read more

I hadn't been to a Stater Bro's Market in decades. For me, There was a bit of nostalgia walking into this store as I remember going to their other locations as a youngster. I will always remember being told that Stater Brothers is known for having a great butcher department that offer's high quality meat at a fair price. Fast forward twenty some years later, I popped into Stater Bros specifically to grab a few steaks for dinner while we were up in Big Bear and I was blown away not only by their vast meat selection, but also by the presentation of how their meats were all beautifully laid out behind the glass case. Everything looked so fresh, so well laid out; I think even the vegetarians & vegans of the world might of been impressed. I decided to get 2 decent sized filet mignon's and guess how much they were? Not $60 Not $50 Not $40 $30 you say? Nope $20?? Not even close $9.09!!! Yes, after checking out, I even ran back in and grabbed 1 more filet to be safe and that 3rd steak only came out to $4.54 3 filets under 15 bucks that cooked and tasted beautiful; yeah I think it's safe to say that Stater Bros still stands behind offering a great butcher department with fair prices. So if you find yourself in Big Bear on vacation and have the the choice of either going out to have a steak or preparing one yourself, my vote is stopping at Stater Bro's where you will not only save money, but I'm sure it will taste much better than what any place in Big Bear will serve you up. read more

There are various hot sides and even sushi! The workers are helpful, friendly and patient. Our deli guy pointed out cheaper options (available sale). They seem to know the locals too! Prices are comparable to what we're used to in Santa Barbara. Some things more expensive (surprisingly!) and some things cheaper. Not bad for a tourist town. read more

The employees working Thanksgiving day/evening were awesome. The doors locked at 5pm and mass amounts of people rushed the exit doors as people were leaving in order to get inside. It was like a scene in the movie Jingle All The Way where everyone was trying to get Turboman action figures. The manager was at the door and doing his best to keep order. All of the cashiers remained friendly as their lines went all the way up the aisles. I'm sure the employees were frustrated at the chaos and just wanted to go home for Thanksgiving, but they never showed it. This is a fully stocked market for all your grocery needs. Extremely busy location. When I was there it was peak time of day. The store was jammed with patrons & employees stocking shelves. Despite the traffic, I made it through check out quickly. Very good employees. Helpful and efficient. They had a section for vegan/non dairy cheeses and proteins on an end-cap cooler. Plenty of non dairy milks in the milk section. I could not find Ezekiel bread but there was a farmers market on Wednesday with terrific vegan friendly choices. This store does not carry sprouts or micro greens from what I was told in the produce department. However, the produce that I bought was outstanding. Much better than any of the markets in the Coachella Valley. Delicious tomatoes. Extremely fresh! The wine selection only had standard whites. Go to Barrel 33 in The Village for a more diverse selection of white varietals (ie. Albariño, Sancerre, Viognier). You can't expect to get it all in one place but this is a great market for most of your staples. Don't miss the Farmer's market on Wed. There is sourdough bread there that will change your life. read more

First time at Stater Bros. To be honest we love Ralph's, but there was none. There was a Vons next door but the Stater Bros ads on Hulu just sold us. I must say - I was pleasantly surprised. The grocery chain is very well stocked, as most should be. But their selection of ready-to-go food and bakery products are quite good. Also the discounts on wines are pretty awesome too. The only thing I would change is to have more cashiers. There were at least 20 people in line but only 3 cashiers were open. It took about 20 mins to check out. Other than that, no complaints. Stater Brothers seems to be taking ALL precautionary measures for Covid19. We are visiting and are practicing 'Social Diatancing' and have been Sheltering in Place at our cabin. We wanted to buy my husband a Birthday Cake though, so we went in. There are a lot of extra staff assisting customers, and there was even a employee wiping down the handles of refrigerated compartments with cleaning spray. The only bummer: Still No TP. My friend and I were out and about in the area and needed to pick up extra food and personal items for our weekend stay with both our families in Big Bear. That's when I suggested we stop by Stater Bros. instead of Vons across the street as I've always heard nothing but good things about Stater Bros. What I've always heard about Stater Bros. is that they offer the same brand quality products you'd find at their competitors at a better deal or value and after visiting this market, I'd have to agree. As we shopped through the store and aisles, we found every item we needed in stock and at a great price. Their produce department also carried fresh quality products with everything from organic and seasonal to fresh cut fruit and vegetables. From beverages to perishable goods, baby items, and florals, there was nothing that we found lacking at this location. My friend even thanked me for suggesting to come here, as she was surprised to find everything she needed at a far better price than at the competitors across the street. This supermarket is fully stocked and for the most part, the workers are helpful and nice, however, our cashier, Arceli, was extremely rude, unhelpful and very unprofessional. She gave us an attitude right from the beginning when my sister had ask for bags for our groceries, and she replied in a very condescending tone, "I'll get it when I'm done", and well as other rude comments she made throughout our whole transaction. Trust me, if you're looking to enjoy your time here in Big Bear, stay away from her.
