We eat here 1-2 times a month and are VERY picky about eating out since we cook such fantastic meals at home. Station Sushi rolls are huge in size and delicious classics as well as creative rolls (my new favorite is the Drop It Low (snow crab, yellowtail, avocado, fresh cilantro, jalapeño, And sweet-and-sour ginger ponzu). It's literally THE only sushi place we will eat at (and we've even tried Sushi Ota-not impressed btw)!!! And they have happy hour Sun-Thurs 4-6pm with crazy deals (like $4 garlic edamame, miso/salad combo $3, sushi $4, Sapporo draft $3.50/pitcher $12.50 and well drinks $5. More of a 3.5 star place really, but I guess I was leaning more towards the 4 than the 3. Met a friend here for lunch the other. The fish is really fresh. We had the protein roll, some other fancehh roll, salmon nigiri, and tuna nigiri. The presentation was wonderful, and the use of colors reminded me of rainbows. Service was attentive and friendly. We usually sit at a table when My crew goes here. Tonight when I came in the place was hoping so we decided to sit at the bar. We were greeted by one of the sushi chefs i wish I got his name he was so kind and attentive! The chef made some suggestions and kept the rolls coming as we ordered! 1 star rating but if I could give it a 0 I would. I've been coming here for years as a local in the area and for the most part have loved coming here with friends and family. Unfortunately, the last time I ate at Station Sushi my 2 friends and I got very sick from their food. My friend thinks the fish was a little warm and was not very fresh. I don't know exactly what it was but it must have been the food from that night because all 3 of us had bad stomach pain and were throwing up. The next day we called the owner Cindy and told her what happened... She got extremely defensive when we told her we felt sick from their food and she refused to compensate us for the meal, which cost us roughly $140 dollars (A small fee for a group of people who regularly spend around $1000 per month at her place). ...And it's not about the money, it's the fact that she called us liars for saying that we got sick from their food when we actually did. I've lost respect for this establishment and it's unfortunate since I've had great experiences in the past. My friends and family won't be coming back period. ps. Eat at your own risk read more

I ordered take out from here for lunch and it was really good! I got their lunch special which was a really good deal. It was like 13 bucks for miso soup, and a speciality roll and I got tempura veggies on the side so that was extra. The girl who helped me out was super nice and sweet. The food was really good! I forgot what roll I ordered but it was fresh and super tasty! Full of fresh fish and perfect rice to fish ratio. The miso soup was very good and hit the spot. Absolutely terrible service. I usually don't write reviews but I have never felt so strongly about how terrible a restaurant is. The food comes out SO slowly. The employees never give concrete answers on when the food is coming and instead dismiss you. The employees (especially the manager woman) run around like headless chickens. Whoever owns this restaurant really needs to fire some employees, or figure out a better way to manage a restaurant. The manager just runs around yelling at the cooks "WHERE DOES THIS GO????" instead of actually understanding what dish she is holding and where the ticket says it should go. This is a great casual sushi spot. The foods amazing but the service is freaking horrible. I got in a fight with one of the waitresses /servers. We waited over an HOUR for our food, one of the items literally being a miso soup, and had to tell 4 different servers that we were waiting on 3 items after we've been there for an hour. They never ended up giving us our items and we told them nevermind and just asked them to take the items off our check and we paid and left. They we're not nice about it at all other than one young girl, she was white and had brunette hair. A different lady who was a server wearing swetapants and a white beanie that was fluffy, she had brunette ish curly hair, she was BEYOND rude. She yelled at us and told her to move out of her way in the walk way and was fighting with a minor while shes 50 years old. This is a cute spot, and the sushi is pretty decent. I actually really liked this place until the last 10 minutes or so. A few locals at the sushi bar started harassing my friend (entirely unprovoked), mocking her loud enough for her to hear while sitting right next to her. Then the guy behind the counter actually JOINED IN in heckling her. I can barely even believe that happened or why it happened. I hope they were just drunk (including the sushi guy.) Then I went outside and, just outside their door, had the pleasure have walking into a small swarm of cockroaches. Given that you guys serve mostly raw fish, that's pretty disturbing. But it is true that this is not quiet nor romantic; if that is the type of dining scene you are looking for, you will not find it here. It caters to a young boisterous clientele with the ambiance being surfer grunge, which I think is fitting for its location in in Solana Beach... so it's super casual. In the evening hours, the music can get pretty loud. And yes, when it is pretty busy, the service can get painfully slow. So if you are in a mellow mood for serious quiet conversation with someone eating sushi, this may not be the place. But if none of the above bothers you; then you must try my ulimate favorite roll of their menu... "Protein Roll"! It has no rice and is enormous... and is unbelievably delicious!! read more

The quality of the sushi seemingly has gone down over the past year. Worse than that though is the service and customer service. We went there this past Friday mostly because it's close to home. As usual it was crowded. A hostess or waitress told us there was room for 2 at the sushi bar and we can sit down. As we were heading in we were intercepted by who we believe to be one of the ownership family members. We were stopped rudely and told NO YOU GO OUT AND WAIT. When I started to say "but " she continued with her extremely rude ways, interrupted and shouted "others ahead of you, go outside ". We did and promised ourselves we will never return. I have the Chicken Teriyaki Plate, The Chicken was complete tasteless and dry, not sure what the sauce was, but it was not like any other teriyaki sauce that I had before and I'm 74 years old. This was takeout, but that is still no excuse for serving totally tasteless food. I believe food should taste good from the start, and not need to be buried in hot sauces or soy. We've eaten and ordered from here many times so I plan to have a 4.5 review and a 3 review. Sushi is overall pretty good. A couple misses here and there but overall they are a great option for delivery sushi. This last order was a bit frustrating as my wife ordered the chicken Katsu plate which shows grilled chicken, vegetables, and rice. We got the plate to see fried chicken (and it wasn't even that great). If you decide to order healthy, you don't want a surprise fried chicken plate. I usually love sushi station but today not as much. Could be my fault but showed up here for a late lunch on a hot day. Note, there's no AC and most the seating is outside. Set outside in the shaded porch and the theme was waiting. The lunch rush was gone and maybe most the cook staff and left but we waited like 30+ minutes for our food after ordering and it wasn't that great when we got it. I had a fish bone in my roll and everything was kind of loose. I feel bad because maybe they were under staffed as we had to ask for refills on our water and you just felt a little forgotten. Sushi was phenomenal so bravo to the sushi chefs. Service however was TERRIBLE. We didn't get greeted, so we just sat wherever. The waiter didn't introduce himself and after he took our order we never saw him again. Some lady brought our food out, but never did anyone check on us. We sat for TWENTY MINUTES after we were done eating waiting for our check while waiters passed us numerous times giving other patrons their checks (I mean seriously people that came in after us and left before us). Mind you it wasnt slammed by any means. We finally got out of our seats to walk up to a busser, Rafael, who was the only pleasant employee in there who actually treated us kindly. I'be ordered here multiple times either calling or online and I receive a confirmation saying my order is finished an hour after ordering, I show up and then continue to wait an additional 40 minutes after I arrive and have told them my name. There is hardly anyone at the side pick up window and there is currently a line waiting consisting of 8 customers who all received order pick up confirmations. We haven't seen anyone working come to help us at the window in 10 minutes. Side note: definitely overpriced for what you get...when and if you finally get it. read more

Think it must have changed ownership. A few weeks ago my wife and I were served rotten taco hand rolls. Sent them back. They were ripe rotten. No apology. Nothing. My only complaint is that the bar is a little small. Other than that I love this place! There are a few sushi places within walking distance of my place here in Solana, but I honestly never made it past this place because of the quality and service I received here. The sushi chefs are awesome here and I usually sit at the bar with some sake and order away. Although it can get pretty busy, the service is always good and I love that when it isn't busy they will play around with different rolls if you tell them what you like. Creativity is key! Usually I get their sashimi because this place always has really good quality fish, whoever does their buying good job! Fresh fish which was served with the perfect temperature. Nigiris were super amazing. I was quite surprised as we typically drive by this place and will come near it for pizza nextdoor, yet with plans of making it to a concert at the Belly Up nearing the corner down the street, we decided to try this place out as we love sushi and can be quite picky. This place did not fail and might have become one of our new go-to spots for sushi. The seating consists of the outside and inside area, with the outside giving options of 4-8 people tables as well as high top bar chairs facing out towards the highway 101 and the Solana Beach train station. Customer service was super on point, the lady that helped us was extremely friendly and sweet. She put in our orders quickly and returned often to keep our drinks refilled as well as attended to our needs of special requests like sriracha sauce as well as additional ginger, to which she brought us back the biggest amount of ginger we've ever been served anywhere, and we did not complain! In fact, we finished it all! The food did not take long to come out, our drinks were served quickly, and were all enjoyed with the nice warm evening weather. We highly recommend this place, as well as their selection of nigiris and the slammin salmon roll was great! The eel nigiris tasted super fresh as well! read more

Really disappointed taking my kids to lunch today. We waited 40 minutes before anyone was served in our group. Not one person was served their meal at the same time, and the yakisoba noodles was unpalatable (tomato and vinegar sauce does not taste good!). Even our waitress said the yakisoba is disgusting. First they would have 5 stars based on food taste and preparation. However, the prices r steep and the inside suishi bar area smelled of fish. I know where I was.... however I have not smelt that at my other suishi spots. I ordered the crunchy shrimp cut roll and it was FANTASTIC!!!!! The chef was awesome however they kept running out of dishes and the women kept making him explain himself. I think the should be a high archery and especially not in front of customers . We felt awkward to where we had to just look at our phones . The outside patio looked amazing . Because of the price only we won't be going back . read more

One of, if not the worst Japanese/sushi places we've ever been to. Had dinner here the other night w/ my wife, son & in laws & what a HUGE disappointment. First, the service... most the people working there that weren't our server, were friendly enough, but they didn't interact w/ us much since they weren't our server. Our waitress was a little snotty & put off by pretty much any interaction w/ us. For a party of 5, she only gave us one menu. We thought it was just an oversight, so we asked for more menus when she returned. She actually got annoyed we asked for more menus & then only brought us ONE more... 2 menus for 5 people (guess there was a menu shortage or something). Now the food... not one thing was good. The Slippery When Wet sushi roll was fishy & just plain bad (between the 5 of us, we didn't even finish half the roll). Good ingredients, but just tasted bad. The tempura shrimp & veggies were soft, mushy & barely warm. The Bulgogi was too sweet & slimy... at least it was hot since it was served on a skillet. Don't remember what my in laws got, but they only ate about half of it too... I think just not to waste their money (dinner was on them thankfully). This place is a joke. I've tried to give it a chance. More than once. More than one factor makes for a good restaurant. The factors that I use are quality of food, quality of service. Another one that I realized is important, but difficult to measure, is the integrity of the staff. I ordered the Beef Teriyaki bowl and vegetable tempura. My order was taking a while and I asked the waitress for a status. She said it would be coming right out. It's taking a while because the beef was frozen. What?! I should have just cancelled the order right then, but I figured I would give them another chance. It was ok, but not good enough for an $11 teriyaki bowl. I have to say that the sushi rolls that my friends ordered were tasty. The service was ok. The waitress seemed to try and it was fairly busy. But no water or soda refills. No drive bys to ask if everything (including the re-heated beef teriyaki) was ok. I have low expectations for service from the past visits, and this visit didn't surpass my expectations (unfortunately). Which brings us to integrity. At dinner, I gave a thank you card to my friend that included two Chargers tickets that were sealed inside. He accidentally left the card on the table when we left. He went back in and saw that the table was cleared and asked for the card. The staff asked them to wait and they would check. They came back with just the two Chargers tickets. Hmmm... the card was sealed. Way to go Station Sushi staff. Thanks for opening the card, taking the tickets out, and throwing the card away. You guys are a piece of work. Never again will I be a customer here. The service is horrible, the food is disgusting, the bathrooms are not clean and the servers were wearing shorts so short, I could see more than I wanted. We never got our apps, a soda water took 20 minutes, and when we told our waitress that the sushi roll was not what we expected and that we'd like to try something else, she responded with "you have to eat it. I am not a fan of bad reviews, but Yelpers deserve to know. There's no where to stand when there's a wait. And they can't quote their wait times right. Their sushi was blah, and each piece of the all meat "special" roll with no rice was so massive and laden with fake crab mayo goop that I couldn't even eat it. Too much of a not-so-good-thing. To top it off - my date and I were BLOWN AWAY when we heard one of the sushi chefs (some white guy with longer hair) laughing with some customers at the sushi bar as he proudly told them he purposefully tried not to seat a gay couple/gave them less service of some sort. Ever notice how when a place is fairly empty you often get the slowest service? I'd like to nominate Nina for worst server of the year award. She's the kind of blonde that reinforces the negative stereotype. Every thing I ordered was messed up. Food: 2.75 stars (slightly better rolls than grocery store quality. Nigiri was better Food quality control: 2 stars (roll was bad, nigiri was ok) Service: horrid I came here at 11:30 and mentioned I had a 12:30 train. A solo sushi lunch is easily accomplished in an hour. I ordered a spicy tuna roll, nigiri salmon, Spanish mackerel and snapper. Each night order is two pieces. I also ordered a green iced tea and I specifically asked if they have it iced - not hot. A water. And asked for a separate check for a beer, as I cannot expense it. There was one other party of two when I arrived. After 40 minutes my food was delivered to the wrong table. After another five it was brought to me. I was also given two orders Of the nigiri items. The tea was hot. When I told her I wanted iced tea she came back with a glass of ice. Ghetto. Also the sushi came without wasabi or ginger. After trying to reason with the airhead waitress and owner I realized I was going to miss my train, overpaid (work card) and left.
