Due to the down economy Station Sushi has changed everything that made them so special. They now feature reduced a roll size and increased pricing on top of degraded quality - this ship has sunk. During a time when health is valuable and public safety is most important, while in the midst of a worldwide pandemic, every. single. worker. at this establishment either ISNT WEARING A MASK or wearing one IMPROPERLY with one or more orifices exposed. The first time I ordered from them, my friends and I called in our orders over the phone for pick up. When we went to the window to pay, the person ringing us up had their mask completely down to speak to us, we later found out this to be the owner. Out of the three sous chefs behind the sushi bar, one wasn't wearing one at all, and one had his half on with his nose out. Only one, out of THREE individuals MAKING the sushi was properly wearing a mask. All other workers weren't abiding by the current safety regulations. Tonight, I myself refused to order from here again but my friend, whomst I was going with to pick up the order, wanted to get sushi again. When confronting the workers AND the owner, AGAIN, they had the audacity to try and validate them breaking the law and disregarding all health regulations. One of the sushi chefs had the audacity to YELL AT ME from across the restaurant about how he needs to "put people like me in my place."This is a scary time for everyone and a little more respect of these newly set laws, and wanting to protect the well being of the public would be greatly appreciated. There were some glitches in the service, some of which were in our favor (we ate some dishes intended for other table). We were greeted pretty late. But the staff is cheerfully overworked and diligent. There was quite a long wait, but it was worth it. Excellent sushi ( nigiri and rolls) and decent ramen. Unacceptable. Me and my friends (party of 6) arrived and checked in for a table. We were told they just had to bus a table for us (in plain sight outside) and we happily thanked the staff and waited as they did so. As they finished a party of THREE swoooped in and seated themselves at the only available table big enough for our party. There was a 4-top directly behind them wide open, so we spoke to the hostess who in turn brough out a manager. The manager listened to our concern, went to talk to the patrons who just seated themselves, and then cam eback and said they had "more people coming" so she was going to let them stay there. What?! Strike one. We wait for ANOTHER table all the while noticing this group of 3 has no increased in number., Our table took another 10 minutes to be ready, and we were seated directly next to them. We start ordering drinks and food, and very distinctly state we do NOT want edamame. They brought it anyway and then later charged us. My friend ordered the sweet potato fries as an appetizer and they were so bad we sent them back. They were bland and absolutely drenched in oil, and when we commented on that to the waitress we were told, "Yeah well, this is a sushi restaurant those aren't really our specialty." If you can't make something properly, take it off the menu. Don't keep it there then indirectly criticize the patron for having the audacity to order from the menu. My meal was decent and was pretty straightforward, but the roll I had fell apart on contact and was pretty blah. My sashimi was good but again, the rice crumbled as soon as it was touched by a chopstick making a big mess. The bestpart of my meal was my Jack and coke. They also automatically add an 18% gratuity on parties of 6+. Overall our experience was with staff who seemed annoyed by our presence, a god awful STENCH by the restrooms, and our table being ganked from us by a group of 3. You guessed it! Their little party never increased like the little liars said it would. We specifically declined food that was given and charged, and barely an apology let alone a free order of gyoza or SOMETHING for the inconvenience of letting another group take our table leaving us standing waiting. Just the gesture would have been appreciated, but NOPE. My experience was ridiculously bad and I will never return to an establishment that obviously doesn't care at all for their customers. Words of advice: Go to Sakura Bana just up the 101. Fantastic food, great service from staff who actually care, and zero attitude. Avoid Station Sushi at ALL COSTS its not worth your time or extra money for ok fish. read more

I had the worst experience here on Wednesday July 18. I was so disappointed. I don't usually write bad reviews but this service and the way they handled the situation was not acceptable. Waited 20 min for a table, then ordered my food, and after ONE hour of waiting for my food aside from edamame and soup, I was told that the food was still not going to be there within 20 min. My blood sugar was very low and I was starving. The waitress didn't care and did not do anything to accommodate us. We ended up paying and not eating. Sushi is excellent!! The rolls are huge and happy hour is on point :).. I will be here way too often.. The only advice I have is that I have been here multiple times for lunch and dinner and at lunch the sushi never seems to be as fresh.. maybe its because they are not as busy but either way I always enough the freshness of the fish much more in the evening. :) read more

I often come here with my family when we're in Solana Beach. I like how positive the atmosphere is when we walk in; everyone is always smiling. Our server, Ashley, was really sweet and friendly. We get the garlic edamame and protein roll EVERY time and get some other random rolls. This time we decided to try the Ahi Lump Crab Stack from Ashley's recommendation, the Slippery When Wet, and Drop It Low. The garlic edamame is a great starter (for those of you who are sick of plain edamame and want to try something new). The protein roll is my favorite roll because it has different types of fish, no rice, and an AMAZING sauce. I wasn't sure what to expect from the Stack, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. Fish, crab, and seaweed on a cracker has never been so good. Slippery When Wet is your classic eel roll and Drop It Low has fish, jalapeño, and cilantro. Aside from these dishes, Station Sushi has many more delicious options. On a less positive note, this place can get pretty busy so it can get loud/crowded. The wait can seem kind of long (especially if you're really hungry), but I think it's worth it. When you're sitting outside, some of the tables might see slanted or uneven. My mom's not a big fan of the decor; she thinks they can upgrade and look nicer. Overall, I'll continue to come back. Good area, good people, good food. read more

I had my first bite of Toro here and I've never had better. I don't live in San Diego now, but I will definitely make this a lunch on my next visit. Not only is the sushi nearly perfect at Station Sushi, but the place is just fantastically located a block from the ocean, so it's a great lunchtime stop before or after a beach walk, shopping, etc. Once a weekly lunch spot for me, I always recommend Station Sushi to people who are headed to the area for the first time. This place used to be a go to for us. But we have had 4 bad experience with them in the past 3 months, you can't say we didn't give them a chance. Twice we ordered delivery through Yelp and the ETA was one hour. Fine, it was Friday evening, that's ok. But when the driver arrived to pick up our food, and hour after we put in the order, they were told it would be ANOTHER HOUR before the food was ready. Luckily I was able to cancel the order and get my money back. To be clear, the same thing happened two times. They just don't seem to be able to handle the rush of orders on weekends. And another two times, when we ordered on a week night and our food actually arrived when they said it would, the fish didn't taste great. Maybe they are having trouble with their supply because of Covid, but the quality has definitely gone downhill. Very disappointed in this place that used to be a favorite. read more

Station Sushi is one of our favorite happy hour spots. They have a limited selection Happy Hour menu with just enough to satisfy your Japanese cravings. My fav...Spicy Tuna roll and Shishito Peppers. Everything tastes nice and fresh. The draw backs...the staff are sometimes a little slow to take your order and sometimes you have to remind them of items that you haven't gotten. But the staff are super nice and they always remember our faces so it's easy to let those little inconsistencies slide. read more

Prices are a little too high for an average/below average joint. I definitely wasn't impressed, I had better sushi with a much better environment. Yes they do have an outdoor patio area, but unfortunately throughout the meal I was caught dropping my chopsticks and shooing away flies or stopping my friend and I's conversation due to the loud traffic/motorcycles. I've been going since this place opened and still always one of my favorites. Stopped in for lunch and ordered ahead this time. They are located on a major highway and right across the street from the Solana Beach train station (hence the name). If you are just arriving or waiting for a train, I highly recommend you come over and treat yourself. If you are heading north, pick up something to enjoy on your train ride. There is generally parking on the street in front or nearby. It's an old house that was converted into a restaurant. I don't know about reservations but if you are on your way, you can call ahead to get your name on the list for a table. Indoor seating is quite comfortable and sitting at the sushi bar is a treat. They have ample seating outdoors and it's covered when it's a cool outside (I know, a rarity in SoCal). The outdoor patio is right on the sidewalk so you can do some people watching as you enjoy your meal. They have an amazing variety of sushi and rolls most of which I have tried most and they are incredible. Today I just went with a simple spicy tuna roll and philly roll with a side seaweed salad. The sushi at Station Sushi has always been fresh and plentiful and today was no exception. The pieces are larger than most sushi restaurants and love their really sticky rice. However, the seaweed salad is just average which is surprising given how great the sushi is. If you really like sushi, you need to try this place! It is absolutely one of the best in San Diego County and worth the drive no matter where you live. And again, if coming in by train, treat yourself and stop by. It's just across the street. If you are catching the train, there's no better snack to take along on your ride up the coast. Note to the Owner: I would have given 5 stars, but your to-go containers are made from Styrofoam. These types of containers are not recyclable here in San Diego County. There are countless other types of recyclable containers that you could be using. I've actually researched this and to switch to a recyclable container would only cost you an extra 10-15 cents per container. As a loyal customer, I would be more than happy to pay an extra 15 cents for a to-go container and would hardly notice the price increase. There are some companies in San Diego that make these containers and perhaps if you were a regular customer, you might even be able to negotiate a cheaper price because the prices I'm getting are just straight off the internet. There is a plastic bag ban and don't kid yourself, it won't be long before they ban Styrofoam for single use in to-go containers. New York City put their ban into effect earlier this year and it won't be long before California does the same. Again, it's just better for the environment and really wouldn't cost you anything to switch over. read more

We had a girls night out the other week and this was a good choice - centrally located and we love sushi. Luckily we made it in time for Happy Hour which meant $12 pitchers of Sapporo and good deals on spicy tuna rolls, spicy yellowtail hand rolls and edamame. But we wanted to try items off the regular menu too. We got the Im so Hot and the Disco Inferno. But good but the I'm so hot was better. Had actual Serrano chilies in it. However, each roll was in the $16 range. And if you wanted REAL crab (if you are gluten free, you cannot eat fake Krab) it is an upcharge of $2. But they do have gluten free Tamari as an alternative to soy sauce for no additional fee, so that at least is good. So base don the food it would have been a 4. BUT based on service it would have been a 2. I felt like we were having to flag our server down too often. I understand Happy Hour gets too busy BUT tell us that. Say, "I may be slow getting to you and I will make sure you get all your drinks before HH ends." That goes a long way. Great service doesn't have to equal perfect service. Just be honest and friendly and we will love it! We will be back! read more

There can sometimes be a wait but if thats the case you can just shoot over to pizza port about 20 feet away and grab a beer while you are waiting. Yesterday we chose to try out this restaurant. It didn't take long for us to get a seat. Raphael was our server. He was AMAZING. This has been one of my favorite sushi bars for years mainly because of their protein roll. No one I have found anywhere even comes close to this roll. It's huge and melts in your mouth. We ordered the salmon skin rolls and the fried chicken gyozo dumplings with red wine and a hot sake. Liked all of it but we loved the fried dumplings so much that we ordered another serving of them. They are so amazing with the thin sauce they serve. We preferred to sit on the bar seats outside since it was an awesome summer Friday evening.
