This place gets busy. Small place inside but they do have patio seating. We came on Saturday night and had to wait about 15 minutes for a couple of seats at the sushi bar. Our sushi chef, Big Mike, was awesome. He was very personable and made us the best rolls. You can tell that the customers really like him. We were served the I'm So Hot Roll, Baked Lobster Roll, Big Eye Tuna and Hamachi Nigiri, and Hamachi w/Ponzu (my favorite). Everything tasted so fresh and was so filling. Been coming here for about a year. And on our last visit, the owner came to us with our receipt from two weeks ago. She hung onto our receipt because she overcharged us on our last meal and remembered us. She then gave us our $ back for the over payment and gave us 50% off on next meal. And for that reason alone, I will be a faithful customer. That is just incredible customer service. The food here is always great. Counter felt tacky and looked as if it has not been cleansed. Before I ordered a beer, I was greeted by several flies who would hang around for the reminder of my meal. I ordered the salmon and spicy tuna. The rice was tired and crusty. I was presented with no soy. I asked the waitress for a sanitary wipe to wash down the sticky bar top. My friend recommended this local sushi spot for our late night meet up while I was in the area. Cute location with a bit of a struggle to find parking. Parked in the back lot and walked around; she found a spot in the front. I really enjoyed the sushi I ordered- crispy rice with spicy tuna and jalapeño slice on top. That had my mouth and lips on fire, but in a good way! We also tried a few signature rolls that were delicious as well, especially they're creamy sauces. Service was bad. Took 40 minutes to get our food. We asked for water several times and never got any until we asked for the bill and for water one last time before leaving. The server finally brought us one glass of water, but there were two of us. She looked at us, looked at the single glass of water, placed it down, and walked away. The food was bad. The hot sake was one of the worst I've had. The fish tasted fishy and bad and had a bad mushy texture. The rice tasted bad, it was oddly sweet and sour for plain rice. I had a bad taste in my mouth all night after eating it. Ignoring the service aspect, I would not eat here again based on food quality. Great sushi. Tiny place really. All of it is basically outdoors but it's under a covered and cozy patio. Gets a little warm in the summer, but it's fine. Busy place. They put additional Tables out on the sidewalk when it gets really busy to try and accommodate as many as they can. Sushi comes fast. I have been coming here for years and it is really good sushi. The owner is amazing, the staff is hard working and gets your sushi and drinks out fast even when busy. Good Japanese beer selections, a couple good sakes. I asked her how much and she said "six something, everything is online (in a tone that sounded like she couldn't be bothered about any more questions)"... Like ok... Rude. Can't even call to ask a price without the side eye roll(yes I can tell they didn't want me to ask questions about prices through the phone). I been going here for years I definitely won't be a customer anymore. Also I found hard PLASTIC in their sushi before. Yep. Wasn't going to mention it but I did... I get if you are tired but it's no need to be annoyed about customers calling to ask about a menu price, especially since prices aren't always up to date... also the Uber eats menu did not have the prices listed for sake... Have been coming here for years (every other week during the summer) and was sad when Sindi sold it to the current owners as the entire vibe changed. It used to be a relaxed sushi fusion restaurant walking distance from the beach. The ambiance was not what kept us coming- it was the location perfect for a walk along the shore after and friendly staff. It also had a decent happy hour! Unfortunately it is now pretending to be something it is not. The 2 managers are unfriendly (rude at times) and the rest of the waitstaff are always hurried and stressed even though there are only a handful of tables. The portion size and quality of fish has greatly diminished and the price has gone up multiple times since new ownership. It's easy to claim that restaurant costs and cost of labor have gone up and therefore increase prices but that should not compromise quality and customer service. We got gyoza, spicy tuna crispy rice, yellowtail sashimi with cilantro and jalapeño, salmon nigiri, spicy tuna hand roll, luvn tuna roll, and crunchy shrimp roll. The spicy tuna crispy rice was amazing- literally the best crispy rice I've had at any restaurant. It went so fast, I didn't have time to snap a pic of it. Just a heads up, this place gets packed. When you walk in the first thing that you notice is that the place is really small. There is an outside sitting area, and thank god because the inside is extremely small. We got there around 7 o'clock on Friday, and it was packed and there was a slight wait. I had no problem with this because we were seated extremely quickly. Once we sat down, we were quickly greeted and given our order sheet. I honestly liked a place like this because its pretty much just as if hey, here's the sheet get to ordering and eating. We were sitting at the bar and we just told the gentleman behind the bar our orders. Just sitting and observing everyone in the restaurant and speaking with the sushi chef behind the bar, I found out that this place is a total local spot. It seemed as if everyone knew each other and that I think is really cool. Now, onto the food. Their menu is pretty good, there seems as if there are a lot of twists on classic sushi rolls. Again, I appreciate places that put their own twists on their menus. We ordered a rainbow roll, a rainbow spider roll (which I have never experienced before and the spider roll is my favorite roll), a caterpillar roll, and a Maui Wowie roll. All of these rolls came out really quickly and that was really nice because this place was packed. The first rolls that came was the spider rainbow roll and the rainbow roll. The rainbow roll was really good, always a classic. The Spider Rainbow Roll, was an interesting twist on a classic. I would have to say though I truly enjoyed it and would definitely order it again. Next came the caterpillar roll, which again is just a classic roll and really did not disappoint. The Maui Wowie roll was something out of this world. There is no rice, it is all crab and there is spicy tuna on the inside with it as well as salmon and albacore on the outside of this roll. It is about the size of a brick and it has an awesome flavor. It is also a fried roll, which I didn't know that it was going to be but it was still really good. This place is awesome and if you have the chance to go, expect to wait. There is a small parking lot behind the restaurant and know that you are going to be a little cramped. Rolls were skinnier than a New York joint. Pretty much harbinger of doom for diners is a table that wobbles like Humpty Dumpty. They had catchy names for the rolls but 90% had shrimp tempura. Are they catering to kids who like chicken McNuggets or people with no taste buds for fresh sashimi grade fish. Wait staff were inattentive and tackily attired- rocking the clearance section of Ross. From the menu having a plethora of options and the atmosphere being very lively and fun to the delicious food and outstanding and friendly customer service. I think I found my new favorite sushi spot. Shout-out to Rafael for being such a kind, pleasant, attentive and all-around wonderful server, Marcos for being super cool and friendly and actually having a nice conversation with us after our meal, to Tara who's super sweet and amazing at what she does and despite being so busy still had the time to make us feel so comfortable and welcomed. My family and I went a couple days ago and ordered a few rolls my mom and sister ordered a yellowtail roll to share and when it came out it looked nasty and none of us wanted to eat it. We asked the waiter to take it off the bill and she did and later that night we all got sick. The next day my mom called them to let the manager or owner know that we got sick which she responded by saying that no one else called to say they got sick so we must've been lying to get our money back. I'm in Del Mar visiting family for the week, and I've already been here twice. You know it's good when there's a wait on a Monday night! The service is quick and everyone there is so sweet. Easily the freshest sushi I've ever tasted (obviously had to come back for more)! The rolls are huge and beautifully constructed; the guys definitely know what they're doing. And the owner! The ginger salad was BIG! Yum! One suggestion--the stuffed mushroom and stuffed tomato are right by each other on the menu. I've had the stuffed tomato, and love it, so I decided to try the stuffed mushroom---but the menu doesn't really describe what it is, so I assumed I would get something more like the stuffed tomato.
