I was born in Whittier but raised in Seattle. My mom on the other hand was born & raised in Whittier and lived just 5 minute from this restaurant her entire life. As an adult I had heard countless stories about the 'cheap, good food' they served and all the memories she had visiting on special occasions, after church, anniversaries etc. While visiting Laguna Beach last week with my parents I finally got the chance to try this place for myself and I can now see what all the talk was about! The charm and ambiance of this place reminded me of the pictures I'd seen from an easier, slower time of great service, happy smiles and a good value. I've been eating the "cheesy toast" spread for a few years and my parents (now living in Arizona) even ask their friends & family to pick some up for them every chance they get. You know, this place used to get it. I liked this 0lace because they were flawed. It was charming. But, I'm not tipping a waitress that only comes to the table ro plop down the food. I've literally been going to Steak Corral for 45 years. Easily the best dining value in Los Angeles. The steaks are delicious and tender (highly recommend the New York Cut). Each steak entrée comes with two sides and cheese toast. The salads are always crisp and cold with excellent salad dressings and the best croutons I've had. I'm 53 yrs old and the last time I was ever here was when I was 9 yrs old. It has that country western vibe that I guess never disappeared. Don't remember the wagons being the focal point of this dining experience. I can see that the restaurant has never been updated .this place is still stuck in the 70's. The food was ok nothing is rave about. The menu is cut and dry . Just like the wood board that it's written on . You look up and there you go ! The method to serve the salad was ok everything fresh. The ranch dressing ran down my salad like it was water.. not impressed with the dressing at all. . We sat down with our salad within 8 minutes or ribeye steaks came in .pretty good size not pretty and stuff just a regular grill on it . The meat was a bit off brand .but still did the trick .if you are a steak eater like me .YOU WILL notice the difference. I ordered medium rare .I got bloody.. the veggies were not fresh . They came out of a plastic bag and nuked.. very bland and boring. All in all it was ok but not ok to go back there again . I remember this place being much better than it is today . This place is amazing ... I've been coming to steak corral for years and it's always so good ... I usually get steak a( small cut top sirloin or filet mignon.) it comes with 2 sides so I get a side salad with practically everything on it ... and a extra side of cheese toast but you can also choose from *baked potato *steamed veggies *mashed potatoes *baked beans*french fries*onion rings or cottage cheese .The cheese toast is amazing ... I was there 4 years ago for the first time and at the time food tasted fresh, salad bar looked appetizing and prices were reasonable. Today, I returned and was very disappointed. To start off, the young lady that took our order forgot to add some food on our check. It was not until we noticed when our food was being served at our table. My steak was cooked wrong so the waitress took it back to adjust and by the time she brought back my steak, my potato was cold and my bread was tough. Looking around while I was eating I noticed a lot of dust on the ceilings and decorations inside the restaurant. Canopy on top of the salad bar also stained. Suddenly a bust boy passes by with his cart looking filthy. The trays are falling apart with rust on the edges. The upholstery was noticeably black like it has never been cleaned not to mention the kids high chairs too. Really? Very unsanitary. Surprised how this business has an A rating and hasn't been closed down by the health department. I don't even want to imagine how the kitchen even looks by just noticing so much. Survice is pretty straight foward kinda like sizzler they serve you salad in the most unbalanced bowl becareful eating your salad. They serve you a mountain of salad dressing as well like wow! Look I understand this is a local spot but! I never had a medium rare steak that tasted burnt!! (The cause of this is not cleaning your grill properly. Steak is very unseasoned my sirloin tasted like a piece of charcoal but it was rare i give them that . They also dont bring you no salt A1 steak sauce not even pepper . They will also bring you your baked potatoes with out butter or cheese . They got alot of work to do to figure out the system read more

My husband and I had a pleasant time eating at steak corral. The waitresses were very pleasant and our food was delicious.

The baked potato was super small and not real hot. The ribeye was very chewy it's hard to get a tough ribeye as ribeyes are usually always good but here you can get a tough ribeye. The sauteed mushrooms on the condiments bar were very bland they definitely needed some garlic and butter, not so. $13 for the rib-eye dinner was a fair price, you get a salad bar but it's not a huge salad bar not a lot of ingredients tho. the place is definitely being run by teenagers and i never saw any kind of adult management personnel. Horrible! They lady who took out order was sweet and gave us ideas on the steaks but the lady who brought our food well she can learn some manners. Food- the salad bar was good but the croutons were so brown as if they were made out of wheat bread which is fine but they looked greasy and yup you can taste the oil. My steak was good (rib eye) the mash was gross it taste like box mash but with no flavor at all. I can make better box mash than that. The halibut well it looked like dry chicken and my bf said it had no taste and was DRY his side of fries looked like they microwaved them they were pale looking and sadly another dry item! So after seeing a post on Instagram from a guy essentially saying he had forgotten about Steak Corral and was blown away on a recent visit after realizing the value for his dollar. with that I put Steak Corral on my radar. Ironically I had planned on going Friday night June 9th but my day ran late and I didn't go. That evening I ended up reading a fresh Yelp review that was less than complimentary that really read like a guy who never has anything nice to say about anything. The guy essentially said he used to eat there as a kid and then ate there again a few years ago (as in the last time he ate there was a few years ago and he was just getting around to writing a review???!!!) with coworkers and it wasn't good and that Northwoods Inn and Morton's are much better!! Those are different experiences all together Mr Hater. Rather than deter me this troll's review made me more determined to check it out for myself and write my own review good or bad either way. So it is Saturday afternoon June 10th and I am volunteering at an event with a friend who grew up in Santa Fe Springs. I asked him about Steak Corral and he goes on to tell me that any time his extended family is together and in the area that is where they go. His daughter happens to walk up to us and starts raving about the cheese bread. So with that I was more determined to check it out. So I show up Saturday night the 10th and I almost didn't stay. The parking lot was full! I did a loop around and ended up getting an end spot. I walk in and I am greeted immediately by an attentive lady who takes my order and guides me through the process. I ordered a New York Strip medium rare and went for the salad, baked potato and cheese bread. The salad bar was well lit, well stocked and everything looked fresh. I found myself a table and though the place isn't blindingly bright inside it is well lit enough and as far as comments regarding ripped upholstery I didn't see any. I noticed a very attentive staff bringing food out to the tables and had several staff including a busboy ask if there was anything I needed. I had made my own salad and it was fine. The lettuce was fresh and the croutons were good. There is only one place in the area with better croutons and I will mention that at the end. My steak arrived along with my potato and 6 slices of cheese bread. I went to get the various condiments for the potato and if a steak is good it doesn't need steak sauce. The butter and sour cream were fresh and I noticed CHEESE SAUCE which I had to try. My potato was set and I can say that the cheese sauce was almost as good as one other place in the general area. In terms of cleanliness I can only say everything looked solid to me. I was also impressed that even with a packed restaurant I saw attendants constantly wiping down the condiment areas and giving the salad bar area attention. My steak was cooked right at medium rare and did not need salt, pepper or any steak sauce. Was it the best steak I have ever had? No, but it was a good steak and for $18.00 before tip I wasn't expecting the best steak of my life. But how good was my meal? It was good. I normally have left overs from any dinner restaurant. Tonight my salad, baked potato and steak were completely finished and three pieces of cheese bread later I was done. Lastly, I don't think I was there from beginning to end more than 30 minutes. That's good service. Will I go back. Yes, when I am in the mood or mode for a good value for $25.00 or less for sure I will be back. As far as the croutons, cheese bread and cheese sauce the only place I frequent that is better than what I had at Steak Corral on June 10, 2017 is Steak N Stein. But the expectation going into one vs the other are totally different and they are also in totally different price ranges. Thanks Steak Corral. You are now in the rotation. read more

This place is great. I love their food and the price is even better! Most of the time it's half full, but sometimes there are huge parties that can be loud. Downside of this place though is it seems like it is very old and you don't have a waiter/waitress. You get your own drinks and order to then pay at the end of a buffet like thing. Then they bring you your food and that's it. You're on your own from then on. I'm still never sure if we should leave a tip, but I usually don't unless I have a few extra dollars. If you do leave a tip, you have to have cash. You can't put it on a card because when you pay for your food that's it and there isn't an option to leave a tip. read more

This is a place I've enjoyed coming to with my dad since I was little. It wasn't until my last visit that I was inspired to write a review. As we were getting our eating utensils before making our salad, more than three of the forks/knives that I picked up were dirty. I was very grossed out and disappointed. Washing dishes is not hard, especially forks/knives/what-have-you. This prompted me to see what some of the yelp reviews were on this place. To read that there has been many instances where dishes are dirty was very disappointing. And in regards to what other reviews have said, it is true that there always seems to be screaming babies or kids running around like a McDonald's. While it is family friendly, I wouldn't bring a date or business lunch here for its extremely casual and outdated environment. The staff here are all young but I have never had bad customer service from any of them. I don't think I'll be coming back here by choice any time soon. I think they should really focus on cleaner habits as a whole. read more

Last time I was here, New Kids on the Block were the hottest thing. Anyways to the review: Ambiance: Its got an old 60's - 70's western vibe to it. Not a cool retro vibe, but more of a creepy old cowboys vibe to it. It desperately needs an update. There is such a thing as a modern western decor. Service: I had great service. I was quickly greeted when walking in and all my questions were answered without hesitation. I mentioned to the server that "I haven't been here in a while", and was hoping that she would recommend something but she didn't. I guess that's more of my fault as I should of just asked. Food: I had the Filet Mignon, fries and mashed potatoes. Now, I knew that the Filet Mignon was not going to be as good as other steakhouses I've been too (Morton's, Fogo de Chão, and Lawry's), but I expected it to be a better then Sizzler's steak. Well I was dead wrong. This was the WORST, not just Filet Mignon, the WORST steak I've ever had. I ordered Medium rare and the steak was chewy, hard to cut, no flavor and not at all tender. The mash potatoes had zero flavor to them and the fries were average. I would rather get a Big Mac at the McDonald's next door then come and eat here again. Overall: The service is what kept this place from getting a 1-star. The food is just terrible and I would highly suggest against this place, even if it's for take-out! This is a classic little hole-in-the-wall steakhouse with thin chewy steak and amazing cheese bread and one hell of a condiments bar! I'm a condiments girl, myself, so I come just for the endless A1 sauce and bucket of questionably amazing melted cheese! They had another location that is now a Norms, out in Covina/Azusa area. The wife had both knees replaces and for now walks poorly. We asked the owner if it would be alright for us to enter the restaurant via the back door. He said " Sure" . This would be a shorter walk for her. A week later we tapped the door for it to be opened. (it doesn't have a knob on the outside.) As we walked in a young lady by the name of Emily, in a rude manor pointed out that "Is the exit!" I tried to inform her about the knees and was told there are handicapped parking spots near the front and we should use one. We don't have a placard. Later that evening the owner stopped by our table and said he was sorry and would speak to the girl. I said she needs to work on her people skills. We never complained so someone musta told him.
