The fries were so good, the Chicken fingers were delicious, and the Oreo milkshake was good but kind of dry, the milkshakes need more thin milk or add less whipped cream on the milkshakes. I can see why they get poor reviews and are going out of business, its a shame, decent product but poor upper and corporate management, well, after contacting corpotate to resolve a wrong order, no one called me when I selected what form of communication I would like to be contacted by, so plan B, contact via chat, what a joke, my reciept looked like someone painted it with black spray paint so I have limited info to provide to the chat person, they replied "without sufficent information regarding your order I cant provide a refund or repalcement", well, without a printer that works on the register they printed my reciept on, I cant provide a reciept that has the informating they want, 20 minutes of my life Ill never get back because the chat idiot didnt have the info which was not provided because of the reciept. what a freaking joke, poor management from the top down, hey, its fast food, i get it, but to deny a customer who has been there since this place opened in Auburn HIlls MI 2 burgers is pathetic. As far as fast food steak and shake wasn't bad. First time I went they screwed up my order, so be sure to check yours. But I like the food I got that double garlic steak burger with cheese. And you can request extra garlic sauce, if you want. They sell skinny fries which weren't too bad tasted hot and fresh. They've got some good deals on burgers, and a $4 deal. And the shakes, the shakes are really good. Little extra on your waistline enjoy one of those shakes and a fat double cheeseburger. Yeah steak and shake living the American dream. First off, I want to state that this place isn't ON Baldwin Rd. It's actually on Great Lakes Crossing Drive. Secondly, what happened to this place?? We used to go here years ago after the mall and it was great. There were servers to take your order, busser's to clean up, I'm also pretty sure we used to get our shakes in real glassware. Not go cups! Getting our food in little plastic baskets wasn't a big deal-but can't remember if it used to be plates...? My family of four walked in and although there was quite a few workers behind the counter, we noticed no servers and you HAVE to order from a kiosk. That's a big NO for me if it's my only choice. I'm not going OUT to enjoy a meal that is a sit-down restaurant and do the work of a server. Then the fact that we all had to stand there to order for four people. Came out to be $40 for food that was ok, McDonald's actually has alot more flavor! Also when ordering, they charge if you want ranch...? They had a bunch of things on there that were extra cost to get if you wanted extra-which that is understandable, but my daughter said you couldn't even get one ranch. When we went to print our receipt, which I definitely wanted to make sure my order was correct-it didn't print. I approached the counter to ask if it was out of paper, and stood there for 5 minutes without being acknowledged. So I asked for a manager. She had been right in front of me for those 5 minutes ignoring me. I told her my receipt didn't print. She was rude and basically told me it did. It hadn't. The only reason I didn't walk out of here was #1 we were hungry and didn't have time to go anywhere else. #2 I already paid. I went and sat down and another customer that saw what was happening told me 15 minutes later "hey your receipt finally came out". We still were waiting for food. I was so dissatisfied with coming here I didn't feel the need to take any pictures. We wont be back. I love this place every time I go the service is fast and friendly. I ordered two garlic burgers add grilled onions and they had forgot to add them, unfortunately my boyfriend was far into the burger he said he didn't care so I went back up to the counter to ask them to add them to my burger that I hadn't finished yet. the manager promptly got me fresh grilled onions and then proceeded to bring out another hot fresh burger with fries, made correctly for my boyfriend who already finished his. This probably the worst first time I've been to a steak n' shake. The experience was horrible, customer service was definitely off point. So we decided to come here for a quick bite before our movie, this place was packed, busy, and understaffed. So, we ordered our drinks, took a bit of time, my husband and daughter ordered a milkshake & 2 chocolate milk. That took about 15 mins and she only bought one, and she gave ours to another table. We ate our food, and order two milkshakes to go for our daughter and her friend, twenty mins later. We asked to check on our order, the girl rolled her eyes and gave us an attitude. I can't review the food because we weren't given a chance to eat! We were turned away mid order at 6:25pm by Amanda, the "manager". I understand the short staffing issues because I'm currently experiencing it where I work as well, but what I don't understand is a rude attitude towards a family with two young children in tow. Better management techniques would ensure being able to be open past dinner time and better signage if needing to close early would prevent patrons from being turned away mid order. They completely redid the inside after being closed for months. We thought they had improved. If you want to eat at noon, you're probably 70% likely to be able to. Any time around dinner is unlikely. One of my new favorite fast-food places. Love the food, and the shakes. Really cheap for what you get too. However this is a chain and so I'm reviewing this specific location, which is why I only gave it 3 stars. This is completely due to the wait time. We did order a few things but it really wasn't all that much. The amount of time we waited for our "fast" food was insane. I think it ended up taking more than half an hour for us to get our food. And no, the place was not that busy. Maybe two other tables in the restaurant at the time we were there. Could overhear one of them also complain about the wait-time as we sat and waited. read more

Just received my order from Door Dash with the bag stapled shut. Opened the bag and my chicken tenders meal had 1 chicken tender and the fries were half full. Everything was cold as well. Called Steak and Shake was put on the phone with the manager and and she wouldnt do anything about it and blamed it all on Door Dash as if Door Dash made and bagged the food! Dont ever order from this store and use Door Dash....if your order comes to you wrong, they wont do anything for you. Guess I'm glad I didn't read the yelp reviews before I came here. Second time ever to a steak and shake - last one was in Texas- maybe 10 years ago. An appointment on other side of town only afforded a carry out. Went with a promo- $4 double cheeseburger with a shake. Both were very good. Was out in less than 10 minutes and was able to enjoy the burger at red lights, while stuck in traffic. Server was friendly and efficient. read more

It's Michigan's answer to In-N-Out! It's a cool diner, quick service, busy, food is good (must be eaten within 30 minutes!). SERVICE: reality check for all those who gave this place a low rating, it's a fast food place, not fine dining, give them a break. Our server was busy with the arrivals of 4 different parties, gave us the menu and someone else stepped in to help us. Our replacement server was equally friendly, took our orders and quickly came back with waters. FOOD: we ordered double cheeseburgers and strawberry, chocolate, and oreo shakes. The burgers were seasoned well and tasted really good. I enjoyed the thin cut fries with a side of mayo. I do recommend to eat it while it's hot as it doesn't taste good cold. Sadly it looks like steak n shake is doing quite poorly. Coming in at an off hour... Looks like there was no staff working at all. It took 7min for me to be greeted when I entered, that's after I began counting. You would think with the holidays, there would be plenty of staff and quite an amount of people eating. Mind you, I'm typing this as I wait for my food. Typically, food for this place is usually very quick to come out, supposedly. But I honestly can say, the fryers for Fries and other deep fried items don't even look to be on. 5min later... Alright soo total wait time was about 20min...average. Food, according to my eldest... "this does not look like the picture," and to be honest... His bacon steak burger looked uneventful. Bacon looked recooked, burger seemed hot and cheese was melted... But not freshly melted. To be honest... There is 1 staff member that looks to be hustling and she is the one that brought our food. Along with many other tables food. Seems like she might be carrying the whole team. Either way, for the price it kind of makes sense, but management should take a look at how the place is running and actually try to make it a good restaurant. I noticed on their website the other location 15min south of this location was closed for some reason. Can't say I'll come back again. I also noticed they took away the kids eat free deal. Bathroom needed to be cleaned for sure or at least checked. Checkout took 7min to even get recognized I was up at the front. This will probably be the last time I eat here. I haven't eaten at a steak n shake for a while now. Since they closed the one near Lakeside mall. When we went in i was confused at first. Then i realized there were no servers. All the staff was behind the counter and you have to order thru the kiosk whether for dine in or carry out. It was a bit of a struggle ordering at the kiosk because we were looking for our favorites...we were disappointed. They have a limited menu now. They took away the royal burger,frisco burger, and sliders. The side by side shakes are gone as well as my favorite chocolate covered strawberry shake. So i ended up ordering a western burger and fries and a drink. Everything was disposable except the red basket and the trays. The spiced vinegar and the steak n shake seasoning are gone. They call out the order number and you get your own cutlery. The drinks are self serve as well. Luckily the burgers are still good and the fries...i cant stop eating coz its so good! I miss my vinegar though :( so check out the menu before you go because of the limited menu. After arriving 35 minutes to get here during "open" business hours, we were met with a "web orders only" sign and cone in the drive thru. So I ordered on my app, which charged my credit card instead of taking my gift card balances. I figured "you know what, my credit card has already been charged, let's wait the 20 minutes for the food." Guess who didn't get any food after waiting in the parking lot for 40 minutes? When we finally gave up, we literally saw employees LEAVE THE RESTAURANT during the time they're supposedly open. Doors locked. This is the THIRD time we've had bad experiences here, whether it was food quality, quantity, or business hours that are inconsistent with their website or door postings. So went back after a glc trip with the best friend. No one was there when we walked in except the workers. Most were sitting on the bar stools. One of the girls grabs menus and asked if anyone wanted us. They turned and looked at us and didn't say anything or smile. We just got the once over. The waitress that asked them seated us and waited on us. Her name was Monique and she was amazing!! The poor girl seated and waited on 6 tables after us by herself!! One was a 6 top. I have no idea where everyone else went. She rocked it out and was so sweet. And she provided top notch service. We both tipped her about the price of our meal because we were impressed. I come to this location about once a month with my kiddos - they love the milkshakes. On our most recent visit this weekend, we arrived at about 2pm and most of the booths and some of the tables were full. We ordered burgers and fries/onion rings and the kids got the Mac and cheese kids meals. The 4 of us shared 2 shakes. The food came out promptly and all the staff were friendly. We had a coupon for BOGO milkshakes and they were also running a free kids meal with adult entree purchase promo also. All together we spent $18 plus a $5 tip for the 4 of us. I think this is a pretty good price, considering we got 2 milkshakes. They seemed a bit short staffed when it came to hosting duties and cashing out. We had to wait at least 5 minutes for each service, there was just no one available to perform these tasks. The three star review is really for the overall ambiance and condition of the bathrooms. Immediately upon walking in, the restaurant smelled heavily of chlorine. The bathrooms were average in cleanliness, but in serious need of a complete renovation. There were ceramic tiles missing, a funky bathroom lock and a general icky feeling that no amount of cleaning can remedy. Now, it's a bathroom, I don't expect one looking like the Ritz, but Holy Heck, general tiling and replacement of fixtures would go a long way. We would definitely come back to this location, just use the bathroom elsewhere first. And hope the chlorine smell goes away! read more

One waitress even sat down with her friends to hang out for a while. Another waitress audibly said "fuck that" after walking away from the table. We left and I made sure to bring the menus back to the front, because I didn't want the staff to have to work to hard to go get them from our table. I told a girl they should probably pay more attention to serving their customers than standing around and doing nothing. She looked at me like a deer in headlights. Drive thru took 25 minutes before she took my order, then when I did get it I was overcharged and did not get all of my food. There were at least six people working so not due to lack of help. Yikes. I've been waiting an hour for food, and as I'm writing this review I'm still waiting. This place is horribly understaffed. Two stars for the workers who are honesty trying their best; I don't blame them at all. C'mon you guys have to do way better. EDIT: Alright I finally got my food.
