Yikes. I've been waiting an hour for food, and as I'm writing this review I'm still waiting. This place is horribly understaffed. Incompetent drive thru staff. I was the only one in line and they still took five minutes and got my order wrong. Asked me twice if I didn't want a cherry, still came with one. Got a Cookie Butter shake instead of Orange Freeze...yeah, that's close. Ugh. I've seen gone back one other time and the drive-thru attendant asked if we wanted cherries on top of our shakes. Not just black from one day of grime, but days of uncleaned grime piled up into a disturbing level of black muck with piles of paper shreds, fries and cups under the tables. LOL WOW at all the other reviews because my experience was fairly good in comparison. Really not even sure why to be honest. The place itself looks SUPER OUTDATED - in a sense, that it wasn't even really appealing to be there - I feel like the fact that it's still using an older construction model, it really gives off an AGED VIBE with sticky seating and tables. Even the waitresses and hostesses were wearing questionable uniforms that honestly need a makeover. I came with a group of 9 and thought it would be a similar experience, with it being a larger group and had some pre-conceived notions that the attentiveness, or order accuracy wouldn't be there, but I was wrong. Our waitress - I forget her name was very kind and friendly, she was a taller woman with short, curly hair and got everything on our order right. For some reason, the milkshakes came last which made no sense to me since I thought they would distribute them first so you have something you can sip on while you wait for the food - not the case. The bathrooms didn't seem the most luxurious for obvious reasons, but it did seem clean at least. I saw an employee at best trying to clean up the floor in there so that sort of eased my mind on the topic. Overall my experience was pretty decent and I'm shocked because of how everyone else felt. My suggestion for this restaurant would be to put some money into updating the entire look of this place because it can help tremendously. read more

If you play your cards right, however, you can still sample a little here and a little there. This is exactly what we did at Steak N Shake! I can't speak for their famous steak burgers, but I CAN say that they easily have some of the most delicious shakes and fries this side of the country. The shoestring fries were perfectly seasoned and crispy, while my cookies and cream shake had spot on consistency with whipped cream and a cherry on top. Awful. Can I give 0 stars? I came for one thing - the caramel apple milkshake. It is mid-October and was told that it was no longer available. I went ahead and ordered a kids grilled cheese and fries through the drive-thru and was told to pull ahead to wait. This place has always been known for slow service but the past few times I've been depressed enough to visit this sad excuse of a restaurant it has made my depression 100x worse and I realized how much I hated myself. You walk in, the crack whore can't even say "we will be right with you" because she's too busy figuring out in her head how she's gonna afford her next bump. Had the most bizarre experience here tonight. Shortly after we sat down we were approached by our server Allison, who started to tell us about their manager on duty(a guy with glasses and a pink button down) and how he has been acting crazy all night. The story includes him swearing, punching trash cans and verbally insulting other customers. She even referred to other customers near us who backed up the whole story including the fact they had been there for over an hour and a half and still had no food.. shortly after this, we witnessed him come to the service window and yell as 4 new customers came in. He screamed and told them to go and get food somewhere else. We were absolutely astounded! To my surprise Allison and her Colleague, although overwhelmed and so surprised by the actions of this guy made us feel comfortable.. so much so, other customers got up and we're bussing tables and helping them clean, one of them being my girlfriend. We all felt so bad for them lol. Even before she ripped up our bill and agreed that we shouldn't pay for our food due to our experience, I still felt obligated to give a 20 dollar tip on a 6 dollar bill to both servers just because I felt so bad. Someone needs to get this guy some help. he has no business being in a managerial position, especially if he's going to act like a child because he has to do his job.. the restaurant is open 24 hours, customers are going to be coming in late lol.. Only reason I'm giving them a star is because it wouldn't let me give 0 stars. We stood for 10 minutes waiting for a table. The manager was on the grill. There were 5 wait staff standing at the drink station. Three families waiting in line to be seated. Two families waiting to pay at the register. Not a single Steak N Shake employee would look up to make eye contact. There were 4 empty tables. Finally my husband went to the bar and got the manager's attention so we could get seated. The bathroom was a disaster. The floors were filthy. The table where we were seated was broken and the table top wasn't attached to the base. Service here is hit or miss. Tonight's a hit, but it's not packed. They fall apart when there's a waiting line. Shakes are worth every penny, and the whole menu is budget friendly. The seating is fat friendly, which I really appreciate. I'm not cut in half and can breathe. The women's bathroom is always awful. It usually smells, and the big stall lacks privacy. The parking lot feels sketchy. I've never felt unsafe though, but I'm also never alone. It's an easy walk to the mall, but most drive here. read more

Entrance was dirty. Windows/doors looked like they hadn't been cleaned this year. Floor was sticky and nasty. Many tables had not been cleaned. Our waitress was friendly and timely. The food was ... not very good. It was my first time ever to any Steak 'n Shake location, I will not be back, especially to this location. I'm telling you Ive tried tried Burgers with an Egg on it at almost every place that Ive had a burger. I tried it first here. And they keep me coming back. I dont know hat it is. Triple steak was very dry didn't have any kind of sauce or Mayo or ketchup and they didn't provide packets. The portobello and swiss was good. The garden salad was tasteless it had no dressing and they didn't offer one. We would never go there again, we used the chase pay application to order ahead and arrived on time 8:55 pm and they created and seated us (my wife, my 16 month old and me), i told her i created an order ahead order from Chase pay app, she got confused and went to ask a manner, after 10 minutes she came back and told us Chase pay only said we ordered two sandwiches (no fries, no drinks, no salad!), We told her no we ordered 1,2, 3 and 4.... After 30 minutes she came with the food wrapped to go (while we wanted to dine in and told her so) she also didn't bring the drinks and tried to screw us out of them but we insisted and she went and got them so fast they had to be ready!!! Then she told us how order agreed is not a fine in service and practically threw us out! Chase refunded our order and gave us extra money fof our next order and is following up with the restaurant about this incident. I got carried away while Christmas shopping at the mall and everything had closed when the mall did. We noticed Steak 'n Shake and thought we'd have a quick bite to eat before heading home. It was the only thing open that wasn't a bar nearby. The restaurant wasn't very busy and looked pretty clean. We were seated right away and had a nice waiter. I was surprised by how slow everything was, however. We were given a bit too much time to look over the menu. After ordering, our food took over 20 minutes to reach our table. We were puzzled because this place also has a drive-thru window. My hubby and I ordered the steak burger meals, we got my daughter the 2 sliders with fries and a side of mac n cheese (we never know what she'll eat), and got a banana chocolate shake to share. Then we waited for a long time. When it came out, the food presentation wasn't great. The mac n cheese looked disgusting, like it had been sitting for a long time. The burger patties were very thin and charred. It's as if they were left on the heat too long. The fries are thin and crispy, they were good. The shake was the best thing we got there. My daughter didn't touch her food; the mac n cheese is Kraft and the sliders were too burnt to eat. Overall, this place is gross. I'd rather not have eaten. I was visiting Michigan(from CA) and my sister and brother-in-law and I were going to Great Lakes Mall. My sister suggested to first get some lunch at Steak'n Shake...she had mentioned that the food here was very good. I TOTALLY AGREE. The burgers are outstanding and so are the milkshakes. I got the burger with the egg in it...I only wish had ordered 2. I only wish the burgers were a little bit bigger. For the 3 of us, our bill came to about $16.00. I thought it would be nice to take the family for shakes through the drive through. We have been here 20 minutes so far and there were only a couple of cars ahead of me. We are the second car back. How stupid I was to think this would be a nice thing for the family - I turned off my car. I am stuck.
