We were in Branson for 3 nights last week and ate at Steak 'N Shake twice! The servers were great and the food was wonderful...especially the shakes. We love Steak 'N Shake. All of the locations in the Houston area have closed unfortunately except for one that's in the IAH terminal. I am so glad there are still some in Branson. Steak 'n Shake is a staple of the midwest. This was my first visit and it didn't disappoint. It's a chain, but I would say it's a step above the typical fast food restaurant. The burgers were satisfying, onion rings were perfectly greasy and tasty. It's everything you want from a fast casual burger joint. All of our food tasted like it was made fresh to order. The service at the counter was a bit terse. One of our orders was missing the bacon and they seemed a little flustered when we asked about it. Otherwise, the food came out quickly and the rest of the order was correct. This location was spacious and not busy at all when we went during off peak hours. I'm so sad to write this review because this Steak N' Shake used to be one of my favorite places to eat. Family trips to Branson or Silver Dollar City weren't complete without a stop at this location. There used to be a whole host of friendly people working here and the food was absolutely amazing, the best SNS location I'd ever been to! All this has changed in recent years. I've been here twice in the last 6 months and been severely disappointed both times. For starters, the food is just disgusting now. They've seemingly changed from Redi-Whip/whipped cream to some kind of Cool Whip. I was super disappointed in the shake. Bad topping and no flavor in it whatsoever. Also, the burgers! The fries! Yuck! The burgers are underdone and so bland that it turns back around to nasty. The fries were already cold when we got them and also in teeny tiny bits, inedible without a fork. Not to mention the fact that they completely forgot one out of our three meals that we ordered and then acted like we were lying about having ordered it in the first place? The order taker could not hear us in the drive thru, so she exclaimed impatiently, "you're not speaking loud enough". There were two people involved in the order taking which made it confusing. The Asian order taker was polite. Then we were asked, "what is it you want??" She didn't hear chicken tenders, so when we ordered ranch sauce, she snapped, "ranch with what??" Granted it's fast food burgers and fries, but it's a good burger and fries plus they make some of the best milkshakes you'll find. The only issue I have is the drive thru can be a little slow since food is cooked to order. They have shoestring fries, which are one of my favorites. read more

My daughter ordered a Nutella shake but was given a peanut butter shake instead at 503 W Main Street Branson MO on the afternoon of May 31, 2024. My daughter is highly allergic to peanuts and immediately started to become violently ill. This quickly became a life-threatening issue. The owner Nancy was informed and instead of seeking medical help or offering solutions became belligerent, aggressive, and rude when my family requested her assistance. When my family pressed her for help, she threatened to throw them out of the store. I would remind Nancy that according to the Missouri law and Food code she has an obligation to ensure the well-being and safety of patrons of the store. What is highly disappointing is Nancy was more interested in making whatever money a Steak 'n shake shake cost than to ensure customers are provided the items ordered and/or to offer assistance to medically distressed individuals in need as a result of her mistake. This could have been a much more serious issue if my family had not been trained how to react in this scenario. I am concerned that other patrons are at risk given the clear mistake and more importantly lack of care when a medical need arose. I am requesting a root cause analysis and review of the stores labeling, handling, and storage of food items be made. Additionally, there were no signs regarding the potential for cross contamination at the store. As a medical provider, former business owner, and father I am highly concerned with the lack of food safety knowledge and respect the owner Nancy gives to the Missouri Health Department as well as the store's customers. TL;DR Re-Review: How am I supposed to be able to talk my wife into eating here again if it's consistently filthy? We were back in Branson, so I forced my family to eat at Steak 'N Shake again. They abide it for me because they know it's one of my favorite places to eat. I love their cheese fries. My daughter had their Mac & Cheese, and it came with apple sauce and milk. The Mac&Cheese, for $5, is *maybe* a Cup (and I mean like a measuring cup) of Kraft Mac & Cheese, and the apple sauce is one of those tear-top plastic cups. WAY underwhelmed, but she ate every bite (and was not full). My son had the grilled cheese with fries, and he seemed to like it (and it also disappeared). My wife had a steak burger single and said it was "okay," and I had the jalapeño crunch steak burger; it was good. For some reason, when they put the jalapeños on my burger, there were four of them, and they were literally stacked single-file on top of each other, in the middle of my burger. Confused. Anyway, the food wasn't really the problem (although my daughter's mac & cheese kind-of infuriated me), the real problem was that every surface in the restaurant was sticky, the floor was filthy, and there were flies everywhere.
