I don't usually give a strong review of fast food places, but I come here fairly regularly and this place is consistently good. First of all the food is always fresh and good, I usually come in for a burger and fries because for the price and quality, it can't be beaten locally. This particular location is always clean, always well staffed, the employees are always polite and professional, the service is fast, and although it's a walk-up counter with no table service I believe it keeps costs down and allows the staff to concentrate on the food quality. My husband and I have a little bit of age on us and we remember what it tasted like when they were completely cooked with beef tallow and they were very much more flavorful and tasty. This was my first time inside a Steak 'n Shake in probably 6 years. The atmosphere was phenomenal. Had the classic diner vibes with a touch of the current times. I was shocked to see the classic menus had gone away so you can order with a cashier at the register with the menu above them. Karen was super friendly and patient while we over looked the menu. I was super impressed with the fast order times and fast delivery of the food to the table. Food was super fresh and delicious. I ordered the chicken finger combo and my boyfriend ordered a double burger. We were both super excited with the new beef tallow fryer oils, it really made the food taste amazing and I didn't feel groggy or gross afterwards. Totally worth the drive and the money. This was just a few years ago one of my favorite places for lunch . Now I remember why I quit eating here. Triple burger extra greasy, cold fries and medium drink $14 ouch. If it's going to be $14 I'd expect much better. The burger is so greasy I put a napkin under it while I at the fries and it's soaked with grease . Had lunch here with my six Book Club friends. I had a Double Cheeseburger with Onion Rings. The hamburger patties were thin, juicy, and tasty. So that burger really "hit the spot" today. Their onion rings were okay, not made fresh at the store, but those readymade kinds. I have had their skinny French Fries before, and they are yummy too. My friends enjoyed their Milk Shakes with their meals. Great value for the money. This was my first experience with a Steak 'n Shake that did not have servers to take you order and bring your food. I must say it worked very well. The order taker was friendly and took care of things very competently. Shortly, my number was called, and I went to the other counter to pick up my food. I had Fantastic service from our waitress named "Bivi". She was super nice and she made sure to give me some refills. The only thing is they have a Food Safety Score of 88B. That is not very good. Manager was nice enough, but holy hell if you get Megan as your server do yourself a favor and leave or a request a new server. Other waitstaff was rolling their eyes at the mention of her name. First of all, Brrrrrr........ It is so freaking cold in this place. I literally wear a jacket and an overcoat together when we go there. I get it that the cooks may be hot, but the kitchen is wide open...no trapped heat back there. And the customers' comfort should come first. Aside from that....we've been in a few times, either due to them being the only place open late at night, or a milkshake craving. The service is mediocre at best. You always get the feeling your server is brand new. And no one seems eager to wait on you. One night I stopped in for a shake to go and sat at the counter for more than 5 minutes without any of the 12 employees in th store acknowledging my presence until I finally called out "excuse me!" While I waited I watched several shakes being made and set on the counter with syrup or whipped cream dripping all over the glasses or to-go cups. Hopefully this place will get things figured out. I try to make a point of having a good reason to review chain restaurants. This Steak N Shake in particular must be brand new because it looks like a SPACE SHIP! I haven't been to a SNS in quite a while, I guess, but they must be slightly re-branding. It looks a little more like a futuristic diner, or a nice Johnny Rocket's. It's all silver and red.. shiny, clean and pretty. I'm kind of impressed! We stopped here on the way back from Rome and I noticed the not-so-great reviews. However, I say pshaw. It seems like a new growth area. The people out here must be used to something a little different if they're gonna poo poo a Steak N Shake. ...and the service was nothing short of excellent, to tell you the truth. You cannot expect an amazing, life-changing burger here.. it is FAST FOOD, afterall, people. but it's GOOD and greasy and cheesy and filling. I go in here often with either my son or my friend. My friend is older and can't sit very easily in a booth. When ever we go in and ask for a table they always accommodate. They have always gotten our orders correct. And they have always taken whatever coupon I have. My one gripe is when my family and I went late one night in the drive thru we were there almost an hour. Since we called ahead, they had a plan in place to seat the kids and take the orders. The staff was also genuinely interested in the students and our visit to the Booth.
