I have been coming to the steak 'n Shake for many years. Most of the time, my order gets made the right way, it's very fresh, and absolutely no issues. One evening, I came through the drive-through and made my typical order. My order was incorrect. While I would like to typically assume positive intent and not have to worry about checking my order until I get home, this one time my order was definitely wrong. I called on May 20 to speak with a manager, Shane in particular. I told him I only come every few weeks, and he told me that he would make the moment right by comping my next order. I came, told the drive-through attendant exactly what happened and I was told that only one of my three combos would be discounted because I waited too long. The part that was extremely frustrating is that I explicitly told Shane that I only come every few weeks and said that the necessity of writing it in a book was not necessary. Came here today with coworkers, ordered the double beef double cheese burger with tallow onion rings, also got to customize my burger, it was very tasty as wete the rings, but dang, it was very uncomfortably warm inside, and made the experience to be a downer. Well I haven't been to Steak and shake in a long time, as I live in a part of the country they do not exist. It is sad to see some of the changes it has made, and they are more like any other fast food place now. Kiosks to place your order, pick up window for your food, no reusable tableware, the menu is missing side options they use to have, and the quality of the food has dropped. I had always loved Steak and Shake for the old diner feel of the past with a wait staff. I never minded paying more for the experience. However, after today I will not be going out of my way to visit a Streak and Shake when I run across one. I would love to say if they return to the original formula that made them special I would return. However, that likelihood is probably not in the cards. read more

If I could give zero stars, I would. This was one of the worst food experiences we've ever had. We ordered two plain burgers, and every single one came loaded with everything--mustard, pickles, the works. This was not just a mistake; it was dangerous. My stepdad is severely allergic to mustard, and his burger was covered in it. To make matters worse, the order took over an hour and a half to arrive, and when it did, the food was stone cold. We tried to get help, but the general manager, Aaron, was completely unhelpful. He refused to offer a refund and just handed us a corporate number that didn't even work. Unacceptable customer service, unsafe food handling, and zero accountability. We will never order from this location again, and I strongly suggest others think twice. read more

I had not been to a Steak and Shake location in many years. There are hardly any around anymore. There was no line in the drive thru when I pulled in. I placed my order and after around 5 minutes, my order was delivered to me. I ordered the single steak burger with fries combo and substituted my drink for their Red Velvet Oreo Cookie shake. The service was friendly. The store from the outside looked nice. When I got home to eat the food, I noticed that the steak burger was smaller than what I recalled it to be in the past. The burger was good...the shoestring fries were ok...the container could have had more fries in it..the fries I received were mainly short and cut off. The red velvet Oreo Cookie shake was delicious. I have always known their shakes to be good. I may go to visit the location again. read more

Ok guys, it's been a very long time since I've given only one star, but this had to be done here. The food we received at this store should never, ever be served to humans.   My daughter received a Free Double Cheeseburger and fries for her birthday, she decided to redeem it the following day. We arrived at the drive thru around 7:50pm, there was only one car in front of us. When we arrived at the window we used the birthday coupon, and within seconds, and I literally mean seconds, the cook appeared and forcefully handed me the bag of food with grease on it. The bag was folded, wrinkled up, and it just looked very suspicious. I thanked him, but he didn't say anything back.   We drove down the road headed home, and I snagged one of her fries, they were hard and cold. I thought about how fast we were handed the bag, so I pulled over so we could look at the burger before she ate it... OMG I am so glad I pulled over before she ate it.   First off, the wrap surrounding the burger was completely soaked in grease. There is no way on this good green earth this burger was fresh. The burger was cold, the ends were crispy and the center was soggy and grey, I have never seen a grey hamburger before this. The burger must have been sitting so long that the mustard and ketchup had been sucked into the burger because you could hardly see them, and the bun was stale. Lastly, it was supposed to be a double cheeseburger, but it didn't look like two burgers because the meat was so thin (please look at the photos).   I decided to take the food back to show the manager what kind of food they were giving to people. I turned around and headed back to the store. When I arrived back at the store, I decided to walk inside to speak to the manager. As I walked toward the door, just before I put my hand on the door handle, the cook sprinted from the kitchen, and locked the doors right in front of me. He literally saw me walking toward the doors and ran to lock them. I stood there in shock because it was almost 8:30pm, and their closing hours are midnight.   I got back in my car and drove to the drive thru, when I got to the window, the cook was standing there looking at me, I told him the food wasn't good. He didn't say anything to me, he just turned and yelled for the manager. The manager came and I told him about the food, he asked if I wanted a replacement, I told him no, I just wanted to let him know what kind of food they were giving to people. He said OK again, brushing me off. I asked him twice to look at the burger so he could see what he was serving. He opened the bag, pulled out the burger, and his face instantly looked embarrassed. He thanked me for bringing this to his attention. I drove away and took my daughter elsewhere to buy her some food.   I know this post was long, but I didn't want to miss any details. I just can't believe people are this careless to feed others food like this. Honestly, would they feed this kind of food to their own family??? I guarantee they wouldn't.   I cannot recommend this location, and I will not return after this experience. read more

This place needs to be shut down immediately!!! I was very hungry on a Thursday night and decided on trying out this steak & shack since not having it for almost 5 years. First I get to the window to pay for my food and it's nothing but high school kids running and playing in the kitchen which I thought was not ok. Then I was harassed while waiting on my food but still decided to receive it since I was so hungry. I get the milkshake and third sip in I swallowed a long string of hair to the point I almost choked. Then I get to my burger and it was terrible as well. The next day I went to the store for a refund and gave one of the manger my card information and he said it will take 2-3 days for it to return. Well I waited 3 days and nothing came so I went back again on my lunch break and his manger was here whose name is GREG & he said the same thing. He gave me his number to call and after those three days I called and have been ignored. Hm. I'm a bit annoyed from this last encounter but it doesn't really blow out all of my other great experiences with Steak n Shake. At the drive through, we had to wait about 10 minutes before we were able to get to the window. From afar, it looked like a technical difficulty with the driver ahead of me but it took way too long for staff to get it fixed. My order was confirmed at the window (mint milkshake) but the kitchen messed it up and got me the wrong milkshake (Oreo). I mean, I'm not complaining too much since I got it for free with my complementary coupon from an email and I do love Oreo, but I always always always get the mint at Steak N Shake. Stopped by Steak 'n Shake for a late night dinner. The restaurant is a total mess. Tables with empty glasses, left over food, and what looks like one person trying to clean up. We were shown to our table quickly, it was dirty. But it was okay, they used an equally dirty rag to wipe it down, so it was now both dirty and sticky. After a bit of the wait the one person front of house staff comes and takes our order and informs us that they are out of shakes. Not a particular shake, just no shakes what so ever... huh? You don't have milk or ice cream? Is something broken? The word shake is in your name, and all around and see signs that say #1 Voted Milkshake Zagat. But apparently not here. It's actually comical watching the server go table to table explaining that a place that prides it self on a milk shake has none. The food was pretty meh by fast food standards. I don't think this location actually steak burgers. It looked and tasted exactly like ground beef. My butter burger was cold, and bland, chili cheese fries were more beans and fries than chili fries, my wife was served cheese on the side, and my toddlers Mac and Cheese was served after everyone else got their food, so she was fussy, and served something that was radioactive. All in all, a very disappointing night out. There are plenty of other steak burger places in the area, so we probably won't be coming back here anytime soon. read more

If I could leave 0 stars I would. Went for the first time after it it was recommended by multiple people. Order a simple cheeseburger. Went through the drive-through and got home five minutes later. The burgers were cold, and there was nothing on them. No cheese, even though we double checked that they added cheese. When were you last at a Steak and Shake? For me, it has been years. I stopped in today on a whim. My goal was to have a burger and fries and not hit 1000 calories, which is a challenge in many other restaurants. So their single cheese burger (320 calories) and fries (270 calories) put me in a good spot. The burger comes with lettuce, tomato, onions, pickles etc. if you want them, which I did. Satisfying meal. I added an iced tea. The total bill, with tax, was $6.15. ( Is this 1999?) The meal was hot, fresh tasting and quite good. The waitress was friendly and prompt. Free wi-fi works great. This is a kind of old school place. Lots of seniors (real seniors not high school ones), like me, on this weekday afternoon. They have been around a long, long time. First time at Steak and Shake. Came here during lunch and got seated quickly. It was very clean and looked new. I got the Streak Burger. Food came out fast. It wasn't really hot. I expected the onion rings to be a bit hot to where I had to blow on them but it was crispy. Their fries are really bland but the food is fresh and the burger was fresh too. As I sit in the restaurant right now, all I thought to do was go to yelp for this. As a kid I was a big steak and shake fan, and swung by tonight with my fiancé because why not, haven't been here in a while. The kiosk experience is terrible, not what I thought steak and steak would resort to, but that's okay. I paid $23 for a meal and a additional sandwich for my fiancé, which seeming like a stretch, still okay. Got a milkshake, not as good as I remember, but yet again, okay. But biting down into my sandwich, I hear the crack of my tooth followed by a sharp pain. I'm not sure if it was a rock chip, hard plastic, or something else, but absolutely egregious. Talk about a completely unorganized staff. The place wasn't that busy, about half the tables being used. The other half were full of dirty dishes. The waitress tried to sit us at a table full of dirty dishes that hadn't been cleaned yet. Once we finally got seated, gave us 2 menus for me and my 2 kids, not one of them being a kids menu. 2 waitresses were standing back in a corner ignoring people waiting to be seated. After 10-15 minutes one came over to get our drinks and ordered water to start. That took another 15 minutes. The wait to be seated had no filled up the lobby, but all the tables had not been cleaned. There was a tub sitting on one of the tables filled with dirty dishes. It sat in the dining room for over 30 minutes- disgusting!! The service was the slowest I've ever seen. Several people waiting 20-30 minutes for drinks. Simple drinks, not shakes. Waiting for food??? Hope you have another 45 minutes!! Again, completely disorganized and didn't see anyone that resembled a manager or supervisor. Do you want to go back in time? Well I don't have a time machine but going to Steak and Shake is stepping back in time to a 50's diner. It was very clean and and we were greated as soon as we walked in the door. I was just placing a to go order to bring lunch to my husband. My son was the only one to order a cheeseburger he said it was good. He also had a peanut butter cup shake that he devoured. So, I would say it was a winner. He did not like the fries, he said they tasted like peanuts?? Maybe they fry their fries in peanut oil? The hubby and I both ordered grilled chicken sandwiches. The chicken was very chewy, I would not order it again. We also both subbed side salads. The lettuce was not fresh. Probably my fault for ordering salads at a burger joint. read more
