I was impressed with it being fast food. It was very good tasting and I liked all the customizations you can do. The place was very clean and you can watch them cook the burgers fresh. Horrible service. My wife went to get a shake for our 4 year old son because she had received a coupon for a free shake from another FL location. She was going to buy two shakes. The employee stated it was only valid in Indiana. My wife explained she received the coupon from a FL location. They still would not accept the coupon. read more

This is a zero, or lower. Never have I been treated as badly as I was here. I ordered from the kiosk, like at Wawa, I have massive food allergies. Apparently the kiosk felt that I should have onion, even though I am extremely allergic to it. Manager blamed me for everything, and a young lady called me every cuss word she could think of. One of the better Steak 'n Shake's around and I ought to know. They've been a favorite of mine since my first steak burger back in the 80s at the old one near the Winter Park mall. Also miss the old Daytona one too. Sweet 50s vibe there. Once drove a first date from Flagler College to Daytona, closest one at the time, not realizing she was vegan, for a steakburger...that went well. :/ Used to do the Altamonte one so often, recovering mall rat here, they offered me a high school job and I was one of the happiest bus boys ever, dreaming of what to eat when my shift was over; and all the waitresses always treated me really nice. Best few months ever; those junior high school hours. Lol I also think they did a really good job of weathering the Great Repression by cutting portions and prices and rolling out that $4 menu and happy hour. Was looking at a menu from the early 90s and prices really haven't gone up all that much. I generally get the triple with mustard, ketchup, and pickle with fries, chili, and shake; for which there's been this awesome coupon mailer out there. Breakfast's underrated and those dollar breakfast tacos are awesome. One of the few remaining places that'll refill your coffee without slapping you for another five bucks everytime. This one's better than the others. I can't explain it other than just to say it. It's just better. I won't do the closest one to my house because it's right at the bottom of the list along with the Wildwood one; that one's gross. Winter Park's not much better either (I've had some awful experiences there) but it's the closest one we'll sometimes do. Altamonte's okay. Sanford's okay. Palm Coast's okay. Daytona's okay. Both UCF locations are okay. Lake City's okay...but this one, this one always better. It's better, it's busier. People seem to Love it. And don't mind those other reviews. Everything in the Deltona/Orange City area gets bad reviews from yelpers with a handful of friends and one or two reviews, you should take them with a grain of salt. And with family nearby, we thankfully end up here often enough, and I couldn't be happier. RIP taco salad - jyea I know, it's not the same. RIP Philly steak burger. Mnm RIP pepper sauce. This place is so disappointing now. I have been going here very sporadically since 2000. I will say I do like the kiosk ordering and waitress free atmosphere now (because let's face it, the waitresses here were always in a bad mood anyway). I decided to take my daughter here for a quick dinner. She enjoyed her burger but we both hated or stone cold fries. My garlic burger was gross. That made me sad bc it used to be my favorite thing on the menu. I didn't see any $4 meal options like before. Even the kids meal was $5.49! The restaurant was disgusting which was my biggest issue. Forced to use kiosks many didn't work pay in advance and scanning QR codes at the drink station has killed the enjoyment my wife and I had for the place. We don't plan on setting foot inside another one after trying a few across the southern US. The ambiance is sadly fast food style. Half price happy hour on Milkshakes between 2pm-5pm is what brought us here, the aroma of greasy burgers and fries are what kept us here! This location is always busy. You can expect to wait in line for a few minutes while the waitresses hustle to get tables clean and ready. Is it worth the wait? My inner frugal says HECK YES! Rude customer service, completely disorganized and no one seems to know what is going on with orders. I asked to speak to a manager and was told no he's busy! I work in customer service and I am a manager and NEVER would I turn a customer away or have a co-worker turn a customer away. At any time of the day the drive thru will at least take you 40 minutes and to top it all off the menu prices posted on line for their store are different from their menu board so add another 10 minute argument to your time when when you order. This Steak and Shake rates in the top 10% of all the ones I've eaten at. It does get quite busy at lunch time so that does speak good for this location since there are lots of choices in the immediate area. We've always have gotten good service and the food is presented well. I love their banana shakes always order the premium ones in case you don't know they use fresh bananas for the premiums verses flavorings for the regular ones. This is solid burger joint. read more

This place can be slow, so if you're in a hurry you may want to consider somewhere else. HOLY SNORKIES THIS PLACE IS ALWAYS BUSY. I'm giving it four stars only because they make some of the best burgers, fries and shakes anywhere around. I'd give them a 2 star rating for speed of service--usually lots of empty dirty tables and a long wait to be seated and more often than not, a long wait for servers to take order, check up on orders, etc. Unless you sit at the bar. I'd take the wait and dirty tables (actually, to be fair, the whole place is rather a wreck--the FLOOR desperately needs to be stripped and waxed, the windows and glass between booths regularly cleaned, menus need to be wiped clean, the windows need to be washed, the tables need to have everything removed and wiped as well as the seats--but I guess with their turn around they figure people won't care about the cleanliness...and they don't seem to.
