I entered this restaurant at 7:30 p.m. . And sign saying they were closing at 8 p.m. for maintenance and would reopen at 7 a.m. the following morning. There were two people behind me when we asked if we could eat they said sorry we're only do it doing takeout orders. When we said Thank you and turned around to leave the obnoxious Cooks and servers behind the counter started yelling yay we get to close early that's right leave our restaurant. I ordered through the drive through and asked for a side of ranch. When I got my food, I noticed there was no ranch, so I asked if I could get a little cup of ranch, and the guy at the drive through window said "that's going to cost extra" after I had already paid for the ranch and it was on the receipt. I had to show him I had already paid for it and when he realized it was their mistake, finally gave me a ranch cup, but was rude about it. Other than that, food was decent. Horrible experience. Not an adult in site. The location is ran by teenagers. The waitress brought us the wrong milk shake, and no straws. No silverware. The four milk shakes we received had no indication of what flavor each one was. The waitress told us to try them all to determine the flavors. The fries we received were cold. It literally took 30 minutes to get 4 milk shakes. We timed it. The restaurant is filthy dirty. It's disgusting and if I could give this location 0 stars, I would. This place was absolutely disgusting. It was dirty and the food wasn't even good. Our food didn't even have anything in it, and my milkshake had odd colors in it, which I can excuse because they were probably M&Ms. Our server didn't even leave us napkins for our, soaked in oil and grease burger buns. The bathroom was a whole other experience: there was no toilet paper or paper towels, there was ketchup on the walls, and there was straight up crap smeared on the toilet seat. I understand that it was late at night, but this is a 24 hour establishment. Our steak burgers looked like turkey burgers and like all the toppings ran off and the only thing left was onions. Service is great at the location. My wife and I have taken food out several times here and as soon as you sit down; someone is right there to help you. We have a large family and the orders are large also. They are so fast at putting the order together....it's amazing. I love their burgers and their fries are amazing. I was already coming back for a remake on a Order they forgot the bacon on, I end up waiting 47 minutes for a watered down shake and a messy burger. This is my least favorite steak 'n shake I recommend the Kalamazoo ave location. This location is run by teenagers they are so unorganized. I had some woman come up to my drivers window and clean the drive thru window right in front of my face, very unprofessional and uncomfortable. Ha! Let me tell you about the rude service I'd just experienced here at this Steak n Shake: They screwed up my drive-thru order by giving me a Coke when I clearly asked for a small chocolate shake to go with my meal. They then proceeded to say that I said a Coke and not a chocolate shake, even after I explained that I don't drink soda, and insisted that I pay an additional $1.59 for my shake. I told them I'm not paying anything more for a corrected order, handed back the Coke, and pulled off. I then notice that they gave me an extra fry, so I go inside this time to show the manager that they just screwed my entire order, showing her the receipt along with my bag of food. She says, "well, you got an extra fry" and proceeded to not correct the order without me giving up additional funds. Here comes Chris, who looks like he may be the cook, and says, "... you're a piece of shit!" As you can imagine this escalated the situation and we exchanged words before I proceeded to walk out. He then yells, "GO KILL YOURSELF!" I reported this store to their customer service complaint line, and I will never be a customer at this Steak n Shake again. read more

We stopped in for dinner on our way home from a long trip. They were pretty busy but we were seated quickly. We had four different types of burgers, and they were all great. They made a mistake on my wife's burger but the manager made a point to tells us before hand make sure things were OK. I had the Western double steak burger w/ mayo lettuce tomato added. It was probably the best I've eaten. Our waitress Ana was terrific quick and very nice. Overall it was a good experience, We would definitely recommend this restaurant to others. read more

This place sucks I've been waiting in drive thru for over 40 mins my damn baby in the back seat crying she hates you guys

I'm 50/50 on the food here. What is making a big difference on my ratings is the timing on the drive thru. I'm a sucker for Steak `n Shake Taco Salad. It is actually pretty well balanced nutritionally for my dietary needs and restrictions. This is the closest Steak `n Shake to my house. Every time I hit the drive thru, though, the waits are extreme. There has been more than one occasion with only 1-2 cars in the drive thru where I could have bought all the ingredients at Meijer, driven home, and been halfway through cooking the same meal by the time I got the food. I have had waits easily of 10 minutes as the only car in the drive-thru, and more when more cars. That isn't very good when I come here for a quick meal when I'm seeking an alternative to making a meal at home. I'm about to start going to the restaurant by Celebration South, though it's twice as far away, because the drive thru is enough faster that I'd still be home and done eating in less time than it takes to complete drive thru service at this restaurant. The other part of my mixed note is the food. Most of the times it has been exceptionally good, but there have been 1 or 2 times where it was nearly inedible, particularly the lettuce. read more

Usually would not write a review on a fast food restaurant but had to inform you of this one! Absolutely the worst experience imaginable in a Steak and Shake!! Not that busy but still a wait to be seated as no one seemed to want to do this task. Waitress introduced herself and then abruptly left to help a complaint customer who was trying to pay his bill. Upon her return, she asked if we wanted drinks, we ordered ice tea which she confirmed and then informed us they had no ice for any drinks. We passed on the drinks and ordered burgers. The entire staff was in such disarray that it was embarrassing to watch. Meals are stacking up to be served but nobody was serving them!! Several customers walked out. After a longer than needed wait, I informed our waitress that we had to leave. She said she didn't blame us but would appreciate if I would leave a tip!!! Not sure who manages such a poor operation but in all our experiences with this chain, never have I had such a poor experience! I'll never go back to steak n shake. Usually the saying goes "3 strikes- you're out" but we have them the benefit of the doubt and went back even AGAIN. You have to wait waaaay too long at the door for someone to even acknowledge that you've come in. I had to mention this multiple times to management. THEN this last time I ordered a chicken taco salad. It looked amazing except they put taco meat instead of chicken. So I simply asked the server to have the cook to just add the chicken on top (simple fix, so I thought) well server brought it back with chicken but I lost a good half of my salad. Dirty, dirty, dirty. Came in for lunch and realized they haven't cleaned this place in a long time. Dirty benches, trash and food on the floor, haven't mopped in what looks like a few months, the bathroom trash overflowing and trash on floor, sinks where dirty with dirt and debris, toilet was disgusting. This place needs to be closed for a day or 2 and scrubbed and deep cleaned! Disgusting. Told the waitress and she said "okay and yes the bathrooms are bad". Seriously?! i wish i could give 0 stars but i can't ,i have been coming to steak and shake for years and always liked it , but tonight was horrible , i don't know who the manager is but if i was the owner he would be fired , every rude my daughter had to go the counter to ask for our waitress , after sitting at our table 20 mins and all the waitress's was just standing there talking if i own the place they would be fired , we waited over 25 mins before someone came and took our drink order , over 40 mins to get our food and my daughter went to the counter because our food was just sitting there getting cold to ask about our food , and the manager said to her just leave so she left never got to eat their food , with her husband and 2 kids , and the manager was at this one table just talking away to a couple of people he shouldn't be a manager and then we went and paid for our food and guess who was the cashier yup the manager and he said i'll be right back to cash you out but guess what he didn't come back he sent someone else , i guess he was scared .which i think we should had got our food for free , there was people behind us it's pretty sad they had to go to the counter and get their shakes so i won't be going back there again you might want to check into this steak and shake read more
