We've used the Steam Team in the past and have always been pleased. Now I've been trying to contact them since before the end of 2022 and as of 1/28/23 their voicemail has always been full. This review is long overdue as I have used Steam Team to clean not only my home carpet but my office as well for at least 20 years... Jim McKeon is simply the best! He is very knowledgeable regarding stains and how to treat them plus he is efficient, courteous and very reasonably priced for his quality work. A couple of times years ago I had to use a substitute service and there was no comparison in the quality of the work to that of the Steam Team. Jim can also clean your couch upholstery. Because your carpet is getting steam cleaned, know that it usually takes about 24 hours to dry. He will leave shoe covers for you to wear though. These guys are fantastic. They had cleaned my house when I lived in a different part of town and came to clean the carpets in my apartment last year. Given that the two guys who lived in the apartment before me were pigs, it's filthy. The Steam Team came out, cleaned it and wrote me a long note to show my landlord saying that there's nothing they could do to clean up the stains in the carpet, but that doing the cleaning was only for my health. I've kept that note so I can use it when I beg my landlords for new carpet. All this to say, these guys are meticulous, show up on time and will get the job done with a great deal of satisfaction. read more

Their work was very well done, exceeding my expectations for some especially grungy areas of carpet and old stains from a sick cat. Jim arrived promptly, was courteous and friendly and totally professional. He also spent lots of time on the phone answering my questions about the chemistry of fabric stains, how the various cleaning & restoration techniques work and what sort of outcomes can result. I rarely find someone so interested in ensuring that the customer understands the service before they agree to pay for it. Carpet cleaning's not something I expect to need more than once every year or two, but I expect to call them again the next time. Absolutely amazing. My dog had an "accident" and my daughter tried to clean it but it changed my rug color. Jim to the rescue brought it back better than ever and even left me with a safe product to clean other possible "accident". What was more amazing was the price. I have used Jim again for him to clean my more expensive rugs, one very old persian rug and another one with lots of silk in it and again it was done to perfection at an amazing price. We have used Steam Team today and two or three other times in the past 15 years or so to clean our wall-to-wall carpet and area rugs in our current home and the one we lived in previously and Jim is always available, prompt, reliable, super fast and the rugs look great when he's done. Flashback. 2003 new home with new carpet. Fast forward 2005. new baby in house now. Fast forward again 2008. dirty carpet due to infant in house. Call Jim at steam team. Appointment made for 11-10-08 @ 9:00am. Jim shows up at 9:00 exact. Looks over house, measures, gives an estimate. Price agreed, Jim starts work. 2 1/2 hours later, he's done. I look at the capret this evening, great job. This company is truly a professional business. Jim gave me the basics of carpet care, why they did things the way they did, and even left a bottle of spot remover. One warning that makes this a 4.9 stars instead of 5 stars. Jim was AWESOME. We'd had a carpet disaster, with a spill nearly a foot square, compounded by crazy cleaning (3 different products). As soon as he looked at it, Jim warned me that it probably wouldn't be fixed just by a steam clean, and was willing to walk out the door. He was right, of course, but at least he got all the muck out of the carpet. And then he gave us very detailed advice on our options for getting rid of the stain, if we wanted. And a free bottle of cleaning product for use next time (if) we have another spill. Jim really seems to care about carpets, and thoroughly knows his stuff. They did a great job at getting stains out, especially dog stains that we spot treated and didn't come out so well with what we used. The quote on the phone was $100 less than the actual price, it's okay because we had two flights of stairs to pull their things up. Also, there was some confusion with what time they were coming, they were an hour late from the original time frame quoted. I didn't find this out until I called them and asked what time they would show, a bummer since we had already moved out and I was just waiting for them to show up in my empty apartment. Overall, it was very clean and dried in about two days! read more

I am so impressed with the work that they did. REAL PROS!!! They know what they are talking about. My carpets are less then 2 years old, but so is my dog...you can imagin! They told me that it would be a waste of money to do anything more then basic cleaning, since my dog is only 80% house broken. My carpet looks like it did when I first moved into my house. I actually registered for Yelp today after using Yelp for years, just so I could write this review. Jim was amazing! I had my carpets professionally cleaned every year or so using carpet shampooers which I picked from Yelp reviews with 4 -5 stars. About a year ago, it stopped helping much. And when I did spot cleaning, I got a big dark stain around the spot, much wider than the spot itself. So I stopped spot cleaning. I had some additional new stains from a Christmas tree accident so the carpets were embarassing and I was going to just pay for new carpets, but a friend told me I should try steam cleaning instead of professional carpet shampooers. Jim had 100% 5 stars, so I called him up. The results were so much better than I could have possibly expected. My carpet went from "I'm going to rip them up and install new" to looking like I had purchased brand new. He was also very determined to coach me on doing a better job at spot removal. He sat me down at one of my previous spot removal disasters (which he had not yet fixed with the steam cleaner) and took me through what he wanted me to do -- which was not what any of the instructions on the spot removal products say! He had two spray bottles. One of them was carpet cleaner, and he gave it to me to keep. He sprayed a little on, tapped it with a brush, and scrubbed it very lightly. Then he said, "the magic is in this second bottle." It turns out it was a spray bottle filled with tap water. After the carpet cleaner does its work, you HAVE to get it out of the carpet by adding lots of water, and then pressing hard on it with a towel multiple times to get the stain remover out. If you don't get it out, most carpet stain removers turn to a goo, which then absorbs dirt. (He gave me a bottle of spot remover which dries into a powder though). But we just cleaned a small area inside my spot removal disaster, and it was like night and day. And then he fixed the whole thing with the steam cleaner. At any rate, the guy has a passion for clean carpets, and I will never use anybody else. He was absolutely fantastic. read more

I learned of The Steam Team through a referral booklet which contained recommendations for local businesses on the Peninsula. I had utilized numerous carpet cleaning companies over the years and was dissatisfied with the results until I stumbled upon The Steam Team. The results were impressive and one white carpet which I was ready to discard was salvaged by a thorough cleaning. Jim is professional, knowledgeable and extremely informative. Prices are very reasonable in comparison to other carpet cleaners. Most recently I requested that he clean only certain rooms in my home but he cleaned the entire house instead for the same price. I have used The Steam Team exclusively over the last 3-4 years and I would not trust my expensive carpets to anyone else's care. I recommend them highly. read more

About a year ago someone on nextdoor recommended Jim to clean my 26 stairs, four landings and one bedroom berber carpet (old). He came on time and did the most amazing job, better than Coit or anyone else I had tried over the 15 years I've had the carpet! It never looked cleaner. It was dry in one day and Coit's cleaning seems to take two days to dry.Today a year later, I called as I had forgotten I had a guest coming six days from now and of course, I needed another carpet cleaning with short notice! He heard my plea and booked a call in four days after he finishes another new job, and will let me know if he can come. I fully suspect he will get here that afternoon to do the 1.5 hr long job -- and if not it's my fault and Il'l wait for Jim before I'll ever hire another soul to do the work. Jim from Steam Team came to my North Beach flat in San Francisco last week, and even with all the glowing Yelp reviews, the carpet cleaning experience totally lived up to my high expectations. Jim arrived exactly at our agreed upon time and was professional and courteous. He educated me about the materials my carpet is made of and what that means for wear 'n tear as well as dirt accumulation, and he also explained why a highly trafficked passageway to the living room from the kitchen is likely to be extra dirty as a result of the gas stove in our kitchen. Our living room has a wall-to-wall berber carpeting with a hand-sewn oriental rug on top, and he explained my options with respect to cleaning that carpet area and what the considerations for each. Jim did an amazing job and gets 5 stars without hesitation. Our carpets are nine years old and were looking every second of those years. We've had them professionally cleaned a handful of times and they always look good initially but then the stains come back (in addition to the new stains that accumulated). Jim explained the 'chemistry' behind cleaning products, including the specific brand we use to clean up after our dog's accidents, and how they often leave stains themselves (basically it's residue of the product's ingredients). He warned me that while he could get the stains out, so much had built up under the carpet over time that the stains would reappear, same as we'd experienced with other cleaners. He said they'd probably start resurfacing after just a couple of days, although not be as severe. Well, it's been over a week which has included a couple of days of rain and muggy air, and there is only the barest trace of those resurfacing stains. You'd have to squint your eyes to see them. Plus the odors that were in several spots thanks to our dog have also not come back, and again that's even with the moist air we've been having which usually makes the smell worse. At nine years old it would be an exaggeration to say the carpets look brand new but - wow! - they certainly look very clean, presentable and no longer embarrassing! Jim was easily reachable by phone, professional, responsive and clearly interested in and knowledgeable about his company and the services it provides. Don't bother checking out anyone else. Jim did a great job cleaning rugs in two rooms in my house, and a 17-step stairway and landing. I know I should have taken 'before and after' pictures, because the difference is amazing! He arrived on time, got right down to business, was finished within two hours, and the very reasonable rate he quoted me on the phone was what he charged me at the end of the job. I had previously, tried one of those 'rent a cleaner' clunkers...during the five minutes when it was actually working (before it conked out), I realized I needed to call a professional. I'm very happy I did, and glad that it was The Steam Team. After the job was complete, Jim advised me that the carpets needed a full day to dry, and he put little styrofoam wedges under the legs of furniture which were on the carpet, and even left a few pair of shoe covers. Aside from that, he's responsive to "pet accidents" My kitty had an accident due to illness, and Jim was over immediately to pick up the carpet and was able to remove the urine stain without any permanent damage. I am extremely impressed with this business. Ofer, one of the owners, took a good look at the carpet before cleaning it and explained why I had problems with recurring stains, what I had done wrong in trying to clean stains myself, and gave a very good and accurate prognosis of what to expect, and the possible pitfalls of cleaning a carpet in such bad shape. We have a dog, so he sprayed with an enzyme to help remove pet grease. He took a lot of time going over areas that were particularly soiled. In the end, the carpet looks astoundingly better than it did. Highly recommended. Ofer left me a citrus based cleaning spray, and insisted that I call him for advice on picking a new carpet if/when I decide to replace. Highly recommended! read more

After the fiance got a violent attack of stomach flu, I couldn't get them to our place soon enough. We were able to make an appointment the same week. He got there early, did a great job and charged less than the estimate provided over the phone. No odors and the carpet dried really fast. And now for the first time since we moved into our apartment, the carpet actually feels nice and clean! Jim McKeon is a TOTAL PRO! We had urine stains from our dogs on our downstairs carpet. Jim explained that he should be able remove the stains visually (not guaranteed), but more importantly the dogs may mark again because of their amazing sense of smell. Have been using the Steam Team for at least 10 years. Jim is great! He's extremely reliable and careful with treating the carpet. Gave him quite a challenge, today. We had a water leak occur while we were away and there was serious water stains on our light colored carpet. He was cautious about whether the stain would come up, but after he worked his magic the carpet looks like new! Was even able to schedule the appointment with just 3 days notice.
