Place has been here forever (probably close to 40 years) - tons to choose from, but food overall is just "okay". Not bad by any means, but not extravagant to the point where I would go out of my way to come here for a certain food item. Their fries are literally no different than McDonald's fries. ** NOTE: Restaurant also seems to have a hidden surcharge policy if you use a credit card/debit card! When I was here in October, I saw no notice indicating this policy to the customers - I saw nothing on the paper menu, on the wall menu, on the receipt, or by the register. I ordered about $12.50 worth of food w/ tax, but my credit card statement showed the charge at over $13.00. I heard by this November though, they do NOW have notices indicating this policy to the customer (which is the law - they must have had complaints...) I know some places ARE adding surcharges for credit card usage (post Covid, rising costs, inflation, less business, various other reasons) - however - that HAS TO BE DIVULGED to the customer. Glad they finally at least started to do this. Whether this is being done because a place is truly hurting (Steamer's doesn't appear to be), or, to just make an extra buck is a separate discussion. Buyers should be aware of this if using your credit or debit card. Historic place, been here a long time. Service can be slow - which indicates they aren't hurting for business. I don't know why the fuss over this place⁉ My cod nuggets(5) were so tiny and of those one was just crispy breading. My fries were dropped in oil and deep fried twice and I couldn't eat them. My malt was outstanding and the restaurant was a nice surprise regarding size. Please hire people that know your menu and please check your Pepsi machine. My drink was too sweet and very flat. Went to dinner afterwards as I was starving. I gave the fries to an employee and told her they had been dropped a second time in the fryer and she said nothing. It's my first time to visit this local restaurant. The restaurant is cleaned and organized. We came here for dinner. I tried gyros plates with fries. It is one of the Sunday special dishes. This is my first time to check out this restaurant, because I saw it many time in the past. The restaurant looks very clean and full flavor of food sense. Because my clothes has very strong food smell when I got home. I ordered the gyros combo. The gyro was OK, but thensauce was plain, did not have much of flavor to it and the fries was a lot of salt on it. I will request not to have salt on my future fries if I stop by near future. Used to be great before the new owners. They got my order wrong even when they were the ones that touted their soup. Instead when I got home there was an additional hot dogs. Fries weren't what they used to be. I am scared to order a beef. It used too be excellent from what I saw wasn't sure. They did remodel but took the fish tank out and I hear they charge extra for things that used to be included. read more

I've been coming here for as long as I've lived in Winfield, almost 9 years. I'm within walking distance which is one of the things I like about dining at or picking up food from Tony's. Today, for the first time in 9 years I was told there "always" was a charge for a side of juice for the beef sandwich. I have NEVER EVER been charged anything extra for the side of juice. Not a small charge either, if I recall (still being in shock) it was an additional $3.49. Even with the beef sandwich dipped it's still always dry hence why I've always gotten the side of juice. Apparently I'll have to ask them to drown the sandwich to avoid the charge and sandwich being dry. I'm all about supporting small businesses but this is really disappointing. I could see maybe a $1 charge but $3.49 plus Illinois's ridiculous taxes on top of that? Really disappointed after years of never being charged this. read more

Was in the area and was hungry and spotted this all American food style restaurant that sell pretty much sell every fast food option, from hotdogs, burgers, gyro's, fries, etc. Was in on Tuesday at 12:30pm which is lunch time and it was pretty quiet - not busy but people here and started to fill up as I was leaving. You can tell it's a popular local spot. Ordered a fried chicken sandwich and a gyro slider and both were pretty good and make to order so my food was nice and hot when I sat down to eat in so that's always a plus. Oh, and the free water was delicious! Nice and cold....Now what I did not like was the fact that the people working were not wearing masks, specifically the cooks neither did they have gloves on. Come on now...we're still in a pandemic and even if you are vaccinated if you serving the public food you need to have a mask and gloves on. They have it all here - burgers, fries, hot dogs, salads, subs, chicken..... quite a selection to choose from! We ordered on a Friday night. We tried to use their online ordering unsuccessfully and ended up calling it in. They told us on the phone how to pick it up and a time that it would be ready, so that helped. You do not go inside, there is a window in front where you pick up. Usually I go through the entire order (there are 5 of us, so it's a lot) and make sure nothing is missing, but I threw caution to the wind and just drove home. It was all there and hot and just off the grill. One of my kids loves the hot dogs, another the burger and hubby loves the fried food - onion rings and cheese curds. Tony has a new sign up saying their are two prices, one for cash and one for credit, his is the only hole in the wall hot dog joint that does this greedy nonsense. It is his cost of business to eat the credit card expense and not the consumers. Which makes me wonder what other cheap nonsense he is switching out. This will be the last time I come by. My dad and I stopped in here for dinner recently. We were surprised at how nice the inside was. We have driven past this restaurant for years, but never stopped in. We walked right up to the counter, ordered our food, and were eating within about 10 minutes. I ordered the greek salad with gyro meat on top. It was a very large portion, with a wonderful dressing. The dressing was your typical greek dressing, but it paired perfectly with the gyro meat. The gyro meat itself was also really good - flavorful and with a crispy outside. My dad ordered a cheeseburger with fries. This was a classic cheeseburger, but the burger itself had a crispy outside rim. It was the perfect touch. The fries were okay, very much your typical thin McDonald's like fries. Nothing against them, but honestly there are better fries out there. Overall, I most likely will be back. The food was good, atmosphere nice, and overall the prices weren't too bad. read more

It's pretty sad that you can go to McDonald's and get a better meal than in a family-owned establishment like itself. I was trying to purchase a gift card and it took the employee around 30 mins to process it due to the fact that she didn't know what she was doing. I ordered this blue raspberry drink called 'Twister,' (Which is a pre-packaged drink), and after I had drank half of it, I realized the expiration date was November, OF 2021!!!!!!!! Don't let the outside fool you, this place isn't your average-sized hot dog place! Went here for lunch during the week and there was quite a crowd of people already eating in the decently sized dining room. First thing I noticed was along the entire left side of the restaurant, the wall was lined with pictures of kids athletic teams as well as certificates from community events. Tony's gets an A+ for being active in the community and giving back to the town. Next thing I noticed was their quite large menu of food options. Everything from dogs, burgers and chicken sandwiches to wraps, salads, fish and soup/chili. They even have ice cream! Score! We had no wait and actually, the cashier was waiting for us to take the order. I noticed that they had a good amount of lent items as well (which could have been on their regular menu too, I didn't take the time to dissect the lent menu.) I had every intention of going there to eat semi-healthy and do a salad or a wrap, but their 10 mini chicken tacos caught my eye. Hubby went with a dog and fries. Food was ready very quickly as I spent more time looking over their menu. You could go every day for several weeks and have a different item each day. I love menus that have lots of choices in terms of a fast food restaurant. The people serving were very friendly and efficient. The food was good, but the tacos were the same kind you would buy at Jewel. The hot dog was your average, steamed hot dog with a nice mix of veggies on top. Your traditional style dog. The fries were true winners though. They were the thin, long kind, which didn't look crispy at all, but they actually had a nice crispy outer shell and they were hot, but not burn your mouth hot. The burn your mouth hot were the mini tacos, which I had to pry them all open to let them cool off before eating them. Food was good, but next time we go back I would try something else to get a feel of their other sandwiches. Price for the two of us with pop was under $10 bucks, which I thought wasn't bad. I'm a little disappointed after our visit tonight. Normally they have excellent service, and food. I use to work behind the line at some restaurants when I was younger, but after shortly reviewing their staff's work ethics behind the line throws some concerns that the health department wouldn't approve. Kitchen staff was not wearing gloves, cleaning while making food at the same time for the customer's without washing their hands, girl with earbuds in her ears coughing and rubbing her nose while making the food and wrapping it, and leaving meat out on the prep table then smelling it between two people asking if this is still good to serve to the customers. I stood there for twenty minutes waiting on our food. I feel bad for whoever ordered the Italian beef, hopefully they don't get food poisoning with the cleaning chemicals from their hands while tossing it on the roll. After tonight, I'm out $20 - will not return after today. This was their second chance after two weeks.... two weeks ago, same thing! Again, save your money and your time. You're better off at McDonald's, or Wendy's. read more

Perfect meals for quick breakfast and if you are in hurry. This place is very easy to find and there are so many popular places around their spot. You can really enjoy their location. Their interior is also great, the vibe inside is nice, and all of their decorations are interesting. Very relaxing and awesome spot. Their staff here is kind, friendly, and attentive. The service was okay, the price not bad, portion size was very good, flavor...none. I ordered a combo and large fry at lunchtime. No line when I walked in...hmmmm....clue maybe? Anyways, the beef on the combo seemed lean but had no spice, no flavor. The sausage was dried out. This was clearly old and maybe a leftover from a previous day. The fries were cheap generic frozen fries with no flavor other than the 20lbs of salt on them. I like salt, but c'mon. Two stars is a fair review, maybe even 1 too high. Tony's Steamers (or just "Steamers" as I know it) was non existent to me up until about a year ago. I had learned of this place from a coworker at my last job, as she was quite the fan. I was curious as to why she knew about it and I hadn't, despite living in Wheaton for 17 years or so. After trying it a few times, I grew to like the place and their vast menu. After having my Friday afternoon off and being out and about in the area, I realized I needed something to eat, and fast. I immediately decided on Steamers, as I enjoy hotdogs but my fiance does not. So I decided I would indulge without guilt. I ordered the hot dog special with everything, which is a hot dog with fries. That doesn't include a drink, so I decided to order a small Sprite (they had Sierra Mist instead). Much like my last experience elsewhere ordering a hot dog, I was asked if I wanted celery salt, but also the obligatory "sport peppers?" I really, REALLY wish places would assume that if one wants "everything" on their dog, they DO want celery salt and hot peppers. I know they're just doing their job but.... I was slightly irritated. I blame it on my hunger pains. No sooner than I paid for my order and sat down, it was ready.the lunch rush was long gone and only a couple of other diners were left. I chose a booth next to a window, and was about to sit down when they called out my order. I grabbed my tray, sat down, and took a photo of the 'dog. My hot dog was a bit overloaded, to say the least. I guess that's a good thing, however I'm not a fan of having to dislocate my jaw in order to eat something. I picked the pickle, cucumbers, and tomatoes off and ate them separately in order to eat the hot dog. No big deal really, I suppose it could have been worse with the hot dog lacking in toppings. The hot dog itself was quite delicious as my buddy Dan B. could tell you, so I won't elaborate. The fries were good and crispy and not overly salted, but between them and the hot dog, I was still hungry afterward. Nonetheless, I ate every crumb and disposed of my trash. Usually I only get a hot dog and fries when I stop in here, but I've also had their mini chicken tacos, which remind me of similar ones you can buy in your grocer's freezer. But, they're a bit cheaper so that's a-okay in my book. It gets the job done. As I left, I turned around to say thanks and the gentleman waved and said "No, thank YOU! Have a great weekend!" All of the employees that work here are extremely friendly, and not once have I been given a 'tude. You gotta admire that. I go to the Walgreens in this area often but never really paid attention to the other businesses in this strip mall. I used to get Tony's a lot with work and I remember good food, big portions and good prices. It's been a number of years since I have been there, so I figured I would give them a try again. I ordered the char grilled Italian chicken sandwich, fries, cheese sticks and a soda. Sandwich was pretty good, could taste the char-grilled on the chicken (not a bad thing). Fries were pretty good, over filled the fry sleeve (also not a bad thing). Cheese sticks were okay. Good for the price, but thought they could have been cooked longer; the cheese inside was warm, but no where close to the ooey-gooey melted cheese in most cheese sticks. So why the 3 stars? Food was pretty good, but they don't have a combo meal for the chicken sandwich and fries; I had to order each item separately. I felt my bill was a bit steep, most places have or are willing to do a combo and give you a little money off. Also, no one seemed happy to be working there. The cashier didn't smile, she seemed beyond board with her job. No one else working there seemed happy. I completely understand that it can be repetitive working short order food service; but a friendly greeting or smile goes a long way. I never felt like they cared that I chose them for lunch.
