Wow... 5 stars doesn't do this resteraunt justice. I went in one Sunday morning and was greeted by two lovely ladies. The workers were so welcoming and even interested me in a few new items. They were super efficient and my order was out before incredibly fast. Food was amazing. I ordered the gyro plate, chicken philly wrap, and a chocolate shake. I will definitely be back and hopefully I will have the same two bubbly, kind-hearted, and sweet workers that served me again. Seriously a gem in the heart of Winfield. I ordered two gyros. The worst gyros I ever had! They didn't slice the meat. They cut chunks. I don't think too many people have ordered the gyros from there. The chunks were about 1/2" thick and two inches long. One side was hard and burnt, the other side was just mush. They were polite people but the food was NOT good. read more

Tony's Steamers is a small restaurant located in a shopping plaza on the corner of Geneva Road and County Farm road in Winfield. I decided to stop in having never visited before and was impressed by the size of the restaurant. There was a Monopoly Pinball Machine, and giant gumball machine and a few other coin operated machines in the corner. The place looked clean and had several TVs attached to the walls. I placed my order for a hot dog with fries, my food was ready quickly and I was soon on my way. The hot dog I received look like it had just been used to pose for Vienna Beef promotional material, it seriously didn't look real. The hot dog came on a soft poppy seed bun. The first thing to note besides the picture perfect presentation of this item is the pickle. The pickle included was a thin pickle slice rather than a pickle spear, its taste was a bit on the sour side but overall complimented the hot dog nicely. The celery salt was visible on this dog, and it came with cucumbers which you only see occasionally on Chicago style hot dogs. The relish and onions were well applied and the sausage itself was well heated and tasted great. The only real problem here was that there was a tad too much mustard. The fries included were straight and thin fries, they have a nice taste not too greasy and not too salty. Two other hot dog vendors I've visited have extremely similar fries (Mickey's in Villa Park and Jimmy's Dog House in Westmont). I've noticed this particular type of fry compliments hot dogs very well. I was very impressed with Tony Steamers hot dog, the attention detail in making it look almost exactly like a hot dog shown on a Vienna Beef poster was definitely noticed by me, and was quite a surprise. And it lived up to my expectations in terms of taste. The price was reasonable at under 6.00 for my hot dog, fries and an extra large pop. Overall I'd recommend Tony's Steamer's and will definitely visit again in the future. read more

Tony does a stand up business here. Probably because I've never seen the guy sit down. Your average Beef and hot dog place. When I was young ruffian in the mean streets of Winfield I ate here 3 times a week (7 in the summer). Eventually I learned how to drive and my love affair with Steamers was kinda out the window. I recommend the combo. Good beef, good sausage. They've gone up in price since the good ole days (Winfieldites see the pun I just made) but they're still affordable. The little bar attracts some of Winfield's finest (and I don't mean the cops) so if you see someone sitting there buy em a drink and just listen. read more

I love coming here after going to Cantigny or on my way home from anywhere in the WWW (Wheaton/Warrenville/Winfield)! It's one of those local hole-in-the-wall spots that you know all the neighborhood kids go in the summer on their bikes. And when they grow up their kids will be doing the same thing. My family and I have come here and tried a variety of items. There are things that we love (jumbo dog, gyros, fries) and there are things we don't like (steak sandwich - too dry/burnt). But I wouldn't hold it against them because they're things that may have been an "off day". The service is always great - you always feel welcome with the ladies who take your order (Are there guys who work the register? Every Chicago Suburb needs their own Vienna Beef hotdog joint. These places rarely reach Portillo's levels of bliss, but can always be counted on for some reasonably priced greasy goodness. Tony Steamers is no different. This place is a Winfield standard, and anyone who played little league in the area knows it well (WIA anyone?). Expect your full menu of dogs, burgers, gyros and sandwiches, with plenty of deep fried appetizers to go around. Reasons to go: 1. They have arcade machines 2. The hotdog special comes with loads of fries, and is not to be missed 3. They serve beer on tap (by the glass or pitcher) 4. The most below average hotdog joint in the area. My husband and I were forced to eat at this place once a week for about two months since it was the closest option near a class we were attending. We tried just about everything on thier menu, and were underwhelmed time and time again. I guess I wouldn't be as disenchanted, but they overcharge you for what you're getting. For example, they charge around $5 for cheese curds, and you only get about 8 of them. When I asked where the rest of our order was, they said you get 4 oz. This place seriously nickel and dimes you for everything. Want a refill on your soda? That will cost you too - $.54. My advice to you (if you have the time) - drive to Portillos where you pay the same, but get way better quality food, or check out Smoke House in Wheaton. read more

Pretty bad. We were starving and this place was literally what we saw first and figured we'd give it a go. Truth be told, growing up around here all the neighborhood kids would walk here and get dogs/burgers and fries. Maybe because I was a kid, the food used to taste so much better! Interior hasn't changed one bit. Not sure if that's good or bad. Definitely nostalgic. Bland was the overlying theme of our lunch. Hot dog and fries, tasteless. Tuna melt, same. I want to love this place, but I keep getting disappointed. We've been here plenty of times, and it's time for a honest review. I'm not going to review this joint on the hotdogs. It's a Chicago style Vienna beef hotdog. Can't really mess it up... The problem is pretty much everything else on the menu. I ordered the chicken sandwich. The chicken was paper thin, and they served it up on a hamburger bun. The flavor was good, but the sandwich alone won't fill you up. The same goes for the bbq beef. Poor quality, served up on a hamburger bun. I could have eaten three. The soup is garbage. The cream of chicken rice was like broth, and not much flavor. My girlfriend had the gyro, it was very tasty. Problem was, they put about a half teaspoon of sauce on it. The kitchen staff is nice, but not very helpful. They are all teenagers who don't seem to care about what they're serving up. I would eat here again, but only if I'm being lazy, and don't feel like driving a bit further for a better joint. Hotdog joints are a dime a dozen, and you need to bring the quality. It doesn't take much to drive down the road to another one. read more

I work down the street in West Chicago and my coworker and I get frustrated at the lack of options nearby....and then this gem was discovered!! Its slightly tucked behind the Walgreens so if you're not familiar with the area you can miss it. It has an old school look and feel to it with their bench-like booth seats and nothing really seems updated or fancy, I loved this about the place. At first I thought they would just have your basic burger and hotdog options but they had more, so much more AND daily specials! I had to try the pepper and egg sandwich bc I was craving something different. The picture doesn't look appetizing but it was sooo good and sooo flavorful! I think I ate it in two bites. One of the absolute best and most authentic Chicago-style hot dog places you can find in the Western suburbs. There are so many hot dog places that suck and shame the name of Chicago-style but Tony's is not one of them. I've never tried anything else on the menu, why bother when the dog is so great!! Now that Smoke House in Wheaton has decided to serve crap instead of food, Tony's is one of the few spots I can depend on for a true Midwestern icon. Ironically, it's close to Happy House in We-go, which is also fantastic!! Tony's is a great place and has been around for years and is active the the community. My daughters love the meatball sub and it's a nice big roomy place with a Dairy Queen right next door for dessert!! Give Tony a shot. read more

I love the feel of this place. They've been around for quite sometime, so they are doing something right. This is your typical burger and hot dog place. A grease joint, if you will. They have other specialties, but stick to one of those because they are good. I love how they wrap the hot dogs with fries in the wrap. Makes me feel nostalgic. Tried it for lunch and it wasn't bad. Average at best. I tried the Philly Cheesesteak and that was awful. It was an insult of a sandwich. Canned mushrooms thrown in with peppers and sliced beef of some sort smothered in cheese. The beef wasn't even chopped or mixed in with the veggies. It was just sliced and burnt. Good thing we had also ordered the fried chicken. Now that was crispy, salty and so good. I have tried other things so you can find good stuff if you stick to the dogs, burgers and chicken. Someone recently raved to me about this place so I decided to stop in before heading to work one afternoon. The person at the counter was friendly. The prices are very reasonable. I decided to try the jumbo hot dog special which came with fries- they wrap them together which I kind of feel makes the fries soggier. I was disappointed when I got to work to find that they had added mustard to my hot dog (I had specifically asked just for certain ingredients) and it was a TON of mustard- I had to use 7 of their little napkins! It still was pretty tasty but I was disappointed that it wasn't what I had asked for. I think I will give this place another try but it didn't stand out to me over other similar places. read more

Tony's Steamers is a good, solid choice for greasy Chicago fast food. It gets pretty crowded during lunch time. Customers must order at the counter and there's usually a substantial wait before you get your food (even if it's to go). So if you're in a hurry, this isn't the place to go. The food quality here is great though. If you want to get your grease on, Steamers will be a big hit. I highly recommend their Bacon Cheeseburgers: all of the burger's ingredients are fresh. The bacon is particularly well-cooked, you will find no flaccid bacon here. The Italian Beef portions are generous portions to feed the obese Chicagoland suburbanites. The Beef tastes alright, but it just doesn't knock my socks off. I'd suggest going elsewhere if you're in search of some great Beef. The verdict is the same for Chicago Dogs at Steamer's: they are underwhelming in taste. However, the quality of ingredients in their dogs is very high. I love the fries here. Steamer's has been around for a long time. This is evident from the photos that adorn the walls. A high school cross-country buddy used to work there and that caused big chuckles. On to the food. What can I say? The chili dogs with onions are great; I could eat 8 of those in one sitting! The chili tastes good, but it is the combination of the onions, hot dog and poppy seed bun that makes this chili dog outstanding! The hamburgers are also great. Hamburger comes from the Wheaton Meat Market. My taste buds have been wiped out because I drank too much Milwaukee's Best in college. So, don't take my word for. It is common to see the DuPage County Sheriff eating in. The only thing that will get him out of Steamer's is a great box of donuts! Malts are not so good. Fried mushrooms are good, but you only get a few of them. I go for the unlimited water housed in a Gatorade cooler. read more

Not the biggest deal but of course if you want more its gona cost you .75 cents more. I understand charging more for it but at least give a good portion. However the Gyro itself was very tasty. We've been here several times during the day, when it looks like the owner and his wife run it. Food's been great. But then I decided to go there this evening for dinner and pick up food for my son and I. First there is a guy who comes in behind me, walks back into the kitchen and starts making my food I just ordered without washing his hands. Second, the other guy back in the kitchen keeps scratching his head while he's working with the food. No gloves on at all. I ordered two hot dogs, with everything, no peppers and fries for me, and a jumbo gyro plate for my son. 14$ Not too shabby, but a little high, considering what I got back for food tonight. Usually, the gyro meet is towering. Not so tonight. 4 slices of meat off the gyro spit and about 3 onions, one half slice of tomato and what looked like a enough sauce to put on a french fry. Then he makes me one hot dog. The girl who took my order turned and said, "you ordered two, right", I said, "yes". I get home and the second hot dog that he made out of my line of sight had nothing on it. I only live a mile or so away from this place, and when I got home and opened up the bag and found all these issues with the food, I had to sit down and write this. I tried to go to the website on the menu to contact the owner somehow, but the website is a dead link. I think that Tony's not going to be in business much longer if he's leaving his evening shift to this bunch. The other girl was all decked out like she was from Jersey Shore, playing with her hair and her iPhone, picking at her zebra painted nails and not even noticing that there were customers there. So, if the owner of this place would ever like to contact me, please do. We won't be coming back there in the evenings at all. Maybe during the day...but if I do come back during the day time, he's getting an earful. I'm just ticked off that I spent 14 bucks and didn't get what I ordered. Oh, and another thing the owner needs to know. Tell your workers that if they want to make fun of the clientele in Spanish, behind the counter... that some of us English speaking people actually understand Spanish and all of the slang that goes with it. It is not repeatable here and wasn't very nice. And what he was saying to the underage teenage girls that were running the register, wasn't very nice either. Do they realize that there are laws about that? To sum up... careful in the evenings. If you don't mind your food being made by some guys who don't wash their hands and don't make your food to order, so that when you open it up when you get home you get upset...then stay away from here in the evening. I moved to Winfield in November. I've had Tony's a handful of times. I'm not quite sure how anybody could have a negative review. The setting they have is perfectly fitting for a hot dog joint. Usually I get things to go, but here for some reason I always dine in. I've had multiple items on their menu and have not had a single complaint. My wife who isn't really a hot dog place type of gal digs this place too. She usually gets the wraps and splits a tamale with me. On top of that the staff is always very friendly and upbeat. I have been eating here for close to 20 years. I have noticed when Tony is preparing the food. He tends to short change you on portions. I ordered a Gyros Platter today, when I got home it I found it to have less than 5 pieces of gyros meat on it. I paid close to $13.00 for this meal. This was my last visit to Steamers.
