A neighborhood gem, an establishment that one would expect to find downtown or on a retail business street with other higher-end restaurants (think Grand Avenue, Uptown, or 50th & France, etc.). Good food, great beer & cocktail selection and a casually sophisticated ambiance. I like unique beers and i was happy to find a refreshing pistachio cream ale to imbibe. Service was adequate on my couple visits, not exceptional in any sense of the word. Noise level can get a little loud and it's not the best venue if one of your party has hearing difficulties but that's hardly unique to this restaurant. read more

I love everything about this place: the food, the atmosphere, the music, the service. The mushroom and Swiss was the best I've ever had (hello, truffle oil). The substitute options for fries are fab. I tried my husband's fries (they were really good). I would be happy with a large berry and brie salad for a meal. The brie burger is really good but pretty sweet (as a brie burger would likely be). It tastes a bit like pie(?) but it's good. Great beer selection. Lots of hoppy beers *and* two choices for stouts. Awesome. read more

This showed up on my radar while in Roseville and I'm getting tired of the same old places, as good as they are. I'm always curious as to what's over CR D. I studied the reviews and headed right over and arrived about 4. We sat inside, most folks were on the patio. I got the server, Alyssa to take our order. We got a delicious guacamole and chips (the good blue kind) appetizer and a first happened, we ran out of chips. I pointed this out and asked for more and another skimpy side came out that they have the balls to charge almost 3 bucks for. The drinks were the soft specialties. Basil got the tropical punch nice and sweet, but not the refill, even stirring which you have to do on your own. I got the huckleberry lemon soda which I brought over to the bartender to make it sweeter. He gave me a few shots of grenadine. So the Yelp photos really intrigued me. I got the smoked turkey sandwich, the bread was grilled perfectly and the sandwich was like a perfect club without the extra bread and frilly toothpick. Basil got the southern belle burger. I had a couple of bites and the balance was perfect, nothing overpowering. The fries were amazing, I'm gonna get my own next time. I always like to try the slaw. Although loaded with stuff still not the best flavor, but I've had a lot worse. The lack of attention may have been she was also taking care of the whole patio, nevertheless. So why do I want to go back? Glutton for punishment perhaps. No, the food is just so good and the menu offers so much. Took the family tonight because my wife wanted some good fish & chips. The place is nice looking outside and inside, although the choice of using metal seats for the table chairs didn't appeal to us - we asked for a booth instead. We started with the Thai Chicken lettuce wraps (2 orders as they only come in a set of 3) - they were tasty, but very messy. My wife got her fish & chips, I got the pastrami sandwich, daughter got the salmon and son got the S & H burger. Wife said her plate was good except the coleslaw was tasteless. I was disappointed in the pastrami sandwich - very little pastrami, they added chips on top with the cheese which turned them hard like slate and my cole slaw was also tasteless. Daughter enjoyed her salmon plate with no complaints, but my son said that the burger was tasteless, but the fries were good. Service was very good, and we tipped accordingly. We did talk to the manager and let her know about the food. I wasn't looking for any discount off the bill, just talk to the kitchen staff and get things corrected. The manager did offer (and I accepted) a small container of additional pastrami to take home with the half of the sandwich I didn't eat. Wow. We were greeted three times in the first thirty seconds of arriving. The restaurant has a great vibe and is extremely clean with a great layout. They have a great selection of draft beers. Our server, Steven, was extremely knowledgeable about the menu and had great input about the drinks. We had the best cheese curds as an appetizer. We had a breakfast burrito, the breakfast waffle burger, and the brisket grilled cheese. All of the food was amazing! I could eat there daily. This is the way a restaurant should be run. We celebrated our three year anniversary a few months ago and decided to try this place since we drive by all the time. I ended up getting the smashed pea ravioli and my fiancé got the zoodle alfredo and both were really fantastic. We also got the buffalo chicken appetizer and that was pretty underwhelming but the other food and service made up for it. Sometimes you just gotta try something new, and you won't always like it. My grandma was not feeling 100 percent, and swears by this restaurant. I called to order the short rib melt and bring it to her. I called because I did not see Au Jus on the menu, but when I asked they said they could make some. I pick it up, ask if the Au Jus was included and they said yes. When I brought it to my grandma the Au Jus was missing. I was disappointed and called. The manager advised me it's not something they provide, and apologized for the miscommunication and offered to send my grandma a gift certificate. I was disappointed but the management's professionalism and nice tone really helped make me feel better. Of course the food was incredible. read more

It is clear that these guys know how to smoke meat. I have had the brisket and the ribs and both are extremely flavorful, tender and moist. I will definitely be back for more of these. I never leave reviews, but I've had enough negative experiences here that I can't not say something. I'm a New Brighton resident (2 miles North of the restaurant) and have been here 4 times. There's not a lot of options in the area for non-chain restaurants so we were really excited for opening day. Our first visit left us disappointed due to poor service, extremely long wait times and incorrect food orders. We chalked it up to a new business trying to find their stride... Unfortunately our 3 visits since have been the same story. Our most recent visit will likely be our last. We brought family here that was visiting from out of town. It was almost half an hour after being sat before our order was taken, and while our food came out after a reasonable amount of time - our appetizer was forgotten about so our orders came out first. We moved past it though until but one of the orders came out wrong and it took 20 minutes for the correct order to be brought out. We had take out last night. My dinner looked terrible. It was torn together to get out the door. They now charge a 4% fee when dining in. I think we will be skipping Steele and Hops in the future. This is a food forward restaurant. Lots of variety and everything was absolutely delicious. I tried a bit of the salmon, beef brisket, apple bacon flatbread, and the porterhouse pork chop (lucky to be with a large group with an affinity towards sharing). All super excellent! First time here. I had the Korean Steak Bowl. It's the best "bowl" that I have ever had! Each vegetable and the steak had its own distinct flavor. Additionally the fried egg was cooked perfectly. The yoked was cooked to were it was somewhat firm yet runny at the same time. The next time I come back it will he hard trying something else because I enjoyed it so much.
