We went there for Lunch on a Wens got there when it opened 11:30, we were a Party of Four, one of our party ordered Mashed Potatoes with her order then the waitress comes back there are NO Mashed Potatoes What this is a Steak House and no mashed potatoes ok she orders fries, on my order and two others from our party we ordered Cole Slaw and here comes the Waitress we have NO COLE SLAW Again what the Heck they just opened how can they be out so we had to order something else we got Chile Beans had to ask for Onions and I wanted some cheese to sprinkle on my Chili Beans so they charged me a dollar seriously, I've been in the food biz and if my customers were not able to get the food they really wanted I'm certainly not going to be petty and charge them a dollar for cheese. The head person was dressed for the park not professional at all I try to address with her the cheese price-and she left mid conversation, I have been her before and it was a packed house and service was great. Love their always fresh and crisp salads for starters, homemade chili-soup is a great for a light meal, and the onion rings are THE BEST!! Steaks are always cooked to perfection and taste great. Service is excellent-efficient and consistent-I've been to three different locations, usually Hemet, a few times to Moreno Valley and once to Victorville- all were delicious food and excellent service at different times of the day. Not sure what's going on. This is my usual "go to" place for steak (and yes: Hemet has good steak houses to choose from) but tonight they seemed off their game. The servers were charming and professional as always and the salad was crisp, but I had the tri-tip and my friend had the ribeye. Both steaks were off the mark. Been here a few times and wanted to do a review. The food and service is excellent. They have a western decor that fits for this area. The steaks we had were cooked perfectly and did not have fatty or grisly pieces. We ordered our steaks medium rare and that's what we got. We came on a Saturday night and there was a 30-45 minute wait. They give you one of those pager type devices that vibrates and lights up when it's your turn to get a table. Nice steaks and sides. If you like strawberry lemonade then this is a definite must try. They serve it to you in a big glass with sugar on the rim. It is the best strawberry lemonade I've ever had and I've had a few! read more

Our waiter seemed to not want to be there. He had a bad attitude, and didn't seem to be paying attention. He didn't know the price of the drinks, either. I had ordered a medium steak. However, when my steak arrived, I knew right away that it hadn't been cooked long enough. When I sliced it open, I noticed it was practically rare. Perhaps the waiter thought I said medium rare? I'll never know. When I managed to catch his attention (he was hiding in the back), he gave a sort of attitude. I didn't want to speak to the manager, so I just told him I didn't want the steak anymore. With that cleared up, I thought we were done. However, while I waited for the rest of the family to finish their meals, I noticed him and a few of the other employees in the back seemed to be talking about us. They kept looking in our direction, and looking angry. This put me on edge and a hurry to get out of there. I have been to this restaurant before in the past and was never impressed. Ice cold cheap beer Local flavor ambiance Solid appetizers and sides ... Worst steaks ever I wanted to like Steer and Stein. I wanted to LOVE Steer and Stein. My bf and i aren't from Hemet and we wanted to eat somewhere original to the area, and while it's a chain, it's definitely not on the level of the rest of the soulless TGIFriday clones in this part of town. I was giddy at the name, and we walked in and ordered ice cold 32oz Coors Lights for $6. Good start! We got the onion ring tower, which I probably wouldn't recommend for just two people because we couldn't even finish half of it (bf just piped in and says he recommends it anyway). The rings were crispy and greasy, and it comes with a ranch dip and a chipotle dip. Then we got our house salads. Very appropriate for an American steak house- chopped romaine, sliced carrots, croutons, doused in ranch. There is a time and a place for salads like that and that time is in a down home Hemet joint. After the huge beers, onion rings, and salad we were pretty full by the time our actual food arrived. Maybe that's why I'm finding it hard to care that the steak looked like a charbroiled leather shoe. I ordered the 7 oz rib eye medium rare and once cut it was stringy, brown, and not juicy. My boyfriends 12 oz rib eye, in contrast, was so rare it was purple. He also ordered medium rare. He sent it back to cook some more and lost his enthusiasm imaging the cruel things the cooks were doing to it- I have no idea if this is true, but the idea of someone messing with your food was enough to ruin it I guess. He remarked that it would probably come back to the table with butthole all over it, and that's when we basically stopped eating. I can't imagine what cook would turn our orders into what came out because they were both so far off in such different ways. We discussed our opinions of how many stars Steer and Stein warranted- he said 2 and I said 4, because I'm pretty forgiving and I liked everything besides the steak. Hence, three stars. read more

Boyfriend knows best on good eats at good prices. After a long day trip to Palm Springs we could have ate there. But prices for steak at that town was no buneo. On our way back home we stopped there. This place is in a small strip mall at the end. I was surprised that the place is packed. Boyfriend said that this was one of the very few good places to eat here. Waited for a table for like 15 mins not bad for a packed place. Sat down waited, waited, and waited for someone asking us for a drink. One of the waiters finally asked us. He got us our drinks. The waitress said I'll get to you not once but twice. I was like oh no bad service already. In reality she really didn't want to serve us. So this other waiter came along noticed what was going on. He put her on full blast kind of loud too!. He took our orders he got to work right away. He took good care of us. That's why for the five stars. When the food came out the portions are very big. The food is OMFG it is slammin. I'll tell you. It kicks Texas Roadhouse any day at any time. Can they beat this hell effin no. Our waiter's name is John he should get a raise and or a promotion. He really made us forget the other person that was supposed to take our order. I guess me looking like I don't look like a local. She refused to serve us. They came with ranch and chipotle ranch. Both our meals came with a salad. Very nice and refreshing. I ordered the baby back ribs and steak plate with a baked potato. It was just ok. Nothing special. The steak was overcooked, but not by too much. Dining partner ordered the ribeye. Also overcooked but had a good flavor. Service was cheesy but friendly. I am not familiar with this area at all but I was looking for suggestions for a friend's dinner and this was recommended. I was pleasantly surprised! First it was a bit tough to find as we didn't realize it would be in a strip mall type building, but we found it! When we got there it was pretty slow and the dinner rush was not yet in full force. We got a nice big corner booth and our waiter was very quick to come and get our drink orders in. We started with the appetizer sampler platter and oh man is it huge. It says it is for 2 people but I think 2-5 is a more realistic number depending on your hunger. I loved the zucchini, they had the perfect crunch! The zucchini was the best item on the sampler platter, our onion rings batter wasn't as good as the zucchini and the potato skins the cheese didn't get melted all the way through and they were just ok, not great. Now the food, holy cow.. literally. We had a few at our table order the signature 1lb and that was huge, I personally got the bacon trip tip and it was really good just overcooked. I asked for Medium and got more of a Medium Well, but I should of asked for it Medium Rare as that seems to be the norm at steak places. I added grilled shrimp and mushrooms to my plate to go with my veggies and salad as my sides. The house salad is huge but also mostly iceburg lettuce so if that isn't your thing go with the Caesar, but it was a huge salad. The shrimp with my meal were perfectly cooked and came with butter and lemon on the side, they were fantastic, my steak was really good as well but I had to use steak sauce since it was a little over cooked and the veggies had great flavor too. This location does not disappoint I've been three times now and my steak has always been tender and delicious. The first time I came I got the bacon-wrapped filet mignon unfortunately in my veggies were over steamed but considering the theme of this place is beer and meat I really can't penalize them for that. They have this huge I think 32 oz beer so I always have to hold the mug with two hands. But this place is as American as can be so don't expect any fancy beers I always end up having to get Bud Light. read more

Called for a take out order at 3:00PM , was asked to hold. Hung up after 9 minutes tried back twice and it went to voicemail both times. Gave up and ordered from somewhere else. Won't use their online ordering as there is a hefty surcharge added. More attention needs to be placed on their customer service. We are still not dining in. My great grand parents lived in Sierra Dawn Estates for decades so I spent A LOT of time in Hemet. Gone is basically everything- the thrift stores on Harvard, K-mart on Stetson, Jamie's Junque on Gilbert, the daily flea market where Grandpa would get cackleberries and hunt for Ripley's Believe It or Not paperbacks...hell, even their original coach has been replaced. Thank the gods Steer n Stein remains essentially unchanged. The exterior has had a severe update but open that door and WHOOSH I'm right back in the 80s, jockeying for a table on a Wednesday for the early bird steak dinner special. The booths, the rough wood interior, the murals....classic. Yeah, the price of a 7oz is considerably higher and the meat was less than stellar but still tasty (note to kitchen, butterfly the odd sirloin cuts to avoid the stringy brisket effect), the service still steakhouse great. I only teared up once when my hubs raised his stein and said 'To Carl and Nellie'. read more

My mom and I ate at Steer N Stein for the first time on a Thursday night. The place was full. The decor has a rustic Western feel, and there is plenty of lighting (good for those of us middle-aged and later vision). The first table they seated us at wobbled, so we switched. Service was prompt, especially considering how full they were. For appetizers, our meals included soup of the day, "chili bean soup", or salad. Soup of the day was split pea, and I almost ordered it, but when I asked our waitress how good their chili is, she said they make it in-house, and it's good. Good thing I didn't order split pea because the table behind me ordered before us, and our waitress brought our apps, then told the other table they're out of the soup. To be honest, the chili was ok, but had the waitress not told me otherwise, I would have wondered if it came from a can. For entrees, Mom got a rack of baby back ribs, and I got a 7oz steak with a half rack of ribs. Both of us got baked potato and their bread. We both agreed the ribs were tender, but could have benefited from more BBQ sauce. I ordered my steak medium, and they served it well done. The main thing I expect from a steak house is that they get the cook on your steak correct. At the price of about $17 for that entree, I would have been annoyed, would have complained, and would have sent it back if it weren't for one thing... For the first time in my life I was served a well-done steak that was, tender, juicy, and flavorful. I could live with their fail and still enjoy my meal without Mom feeling like she was eating without me, or later sitting there waiting for me to finish after a long wait on a re-fire. I ate it and enjoyed it. There was one thing that annoyed me. The platter they served my entree on was so worn that it was warped to the point of not fitting the tray it is supposed to fit into. The result is a hot plate that rocks and shifts almost every time I tried to cut my food or stick my fork into my meat. They really need to replace their plates. read more

The stockyard is the best steak I've ever had anywhere, I don't know what they do to it but the flavor and texture is just delicious and the baked potato and garlic bread compliment it well. I'm not sure the rest of the food plates are as good as the stockyard is. The friend zucchini and ranch are amazing as well, just don't get full off them before your steak comes, because the steak just isn't the same once reheated if you take home for leftovers. The prices are very reasonable. I grew up eating at steer n steins all over the I.E. No matter the location they are all the same, thank goodness because in the small town of Hemet there isn't much, glad to at least have this. read more

Best Sirloin available in the area. They know how to do it right. It's always melt in your mouth tender and juicy.

Went for lunch here on March 20th and we ordered steak salad and a half rack of ribs. The waitress was efficient and personable but that did not help with the food. The steak salad was huge with what they called sirloin laying across the top! The steak had been needled so many times that it was the consistency of chicken fried steak or cubed steak! You could pull it apart with your fingers.The salad was topped with that awful fake tasting fine shredded cheese . The salad lettuce was all iceberg with some chunks the size of a small ball. The chipotle dressing was good though! The bbq ribs tasted as if they were boiled with a big slap of bbq sauce dumped on top. So much sauce that you couldn't see the ribs! They were tender but lacked flavor and the weren't smoked. The sides of slaw and fries were tasty but were served with the ribs on a sizzling metal platter. Cutting food on a metal platter is to me like hearing fingernails rub on a blackboard. I asked for a plate.3 stars for good service but nothing for food! read more

I love steak, I have no problem spending money on a good cut of beef. I ordered the ribeye medium, I figured the ribeye is the backbone of a steakhouse, they got to have a good ribeye. At 19.99 I wasn't expecting anything spectacular but something decent. When my steak came out I was shocked to see how thin it was, and there was barely any marble. The markings look as if it was cooked in a pan, and it was cooked thoroughly. It looked like the Denny's steak and eggs special. I could have bought a better cut at Walmart for half the price and grilled at home. It was disappointing but we were there for a birthday so I made the best of it. The sampler was needs some seasoning and it was really greasy. The beer was cold, the salad was good. I probably won't go back, hopefully it was just an off night. read more
