i had missed 1 appointment recently and can not recall any other time i neglected to keep an appointment. However; . . Yesterday i called to verify my appointment for today. i was told my appt. had been canceled and it would be necessary to pay in advance from now on. Reason: claimed i missed TOO many appointments. For the sake of argument, i payed ahead. When i arrived today at the salon, i was first told i was too early; come back in at 11:15. The stylist was very pleasant as was the shampoo Lady who let me dry my hair using the dryer. (I had been told i'd have to leave with my Hair wet.) I am 86 years old. This is my first review on yelp, so you can imagine how upset I am. I haven't got such a bad haircut in years! Nothing like the picture I showed to the stylist. My hair is uneven, and the worst part: I got ridiculously short bangs and I never asked for them (bangs look terrible on me). The first layer in the picture was right by the cheek, HUGE difference with bangs. I have an important photoshot in a few days and of course I can't show up looking like this. I would likely not return for this same service as the quality of the manicure was only average (she advised that her area of expertise is actually skincare). The best mani/pedi my cousins and I have ever had! Every year my family and extended family converge on the beaches for a two week vacation. During our stay, us gals like to live it up and hit various salons and spas. While we have our favorites we always try to change it up by going somewhere different each year. This year we chose to stop by Stephan and Co. for much needed mani/pedi's after a day of hitting up the discount stores. The atmosphere there was buzzing. Full of life. The layout is perfect. When you walk in the door you first see the front desk, where the staff is smiling and eager to assist you. Then your eyes go to the busy bustle of the hair salon, beyond that a back wall. At first you find yourself wondering where the "spa" portion of the business is, or if you misread the list of services, but then you are lead back through a door along the back wall into the most serene setting. The lighting is dimmed, the decor is very tasteful and soothing and as soon as the door closed behind us we forgot all about the hair dryers and chit chat of the salon. It was perfect! While they couldn't accomodate the five of us all at once it was still a great experience. The girls who did our nails were perfectionists, and very pleasant to talk to. Those of us who were waiting for our turn were pampered with crisp flavored water and wine. We will definitely be returning to try their hair salon! read more

I went in with very long hair...asking for a cut that when dry would lay on my shoulders. I came out with it cut up to the back of my neck and looking nothing like what I asked for! I moved here a month ago and I have found the Delaware climate a nice change from the hussle and bussle of the tri-state area. Really wanted to like my hair. Came in to get just the bottom half of my hair dark brown and the top was black. I have really long hair so it took a while. When it came out the bottom was blonde in only one spot. I started crying. That day I went back and got it fixed and thank god it looks a lot better. But the bleach probably sat on my hair for over an hour. I had such healthy hair and now it's so damaged. I wish I never touched my hair. I'm probably just gunna go back to black now. The whole process cost 200 dollars and now I feel like it was wasted. I liked the hair dresser I just hated my hair. read more

am very sad to say I will never go to Stephan & Co. again. On Saturday, I drove in a heavy rain storm and traffic which made me less than 10 minutes late. The drive was difficult. The stylist then could not fit me in, even though we spent 15 minutes talking about it. She gave me no options. She was going on vacation and leaving at closing time. There was no compassion. She just sent me home. Considering what's going on in the world today, I want to be in a salon who cares about their clients when there is a situation which is scary and totally out of their control. read more

Love this salon. Staff are always so nice and welcoming. I love my hairdresser, Irene. She really listens and puts care into her service. Also, had a shampoo and conditioner I had purchased that didn't seem to be doing the job. I had told Irene about it. She had Cliff call me the next day. He was happy to work with me to return the products I didn't care for and replace them with what I actually wanted. And finally, if you are not 100% satisfied with your hair, they will re-do it for you until you are happy...No pressure, and no charge to you. All in all, a pleasure to deal with. read more

I just recently moved to this area, and I have had a hard time finding a salon and stylist to do great color and cut for my fine hair. After two not-so-great color and cut experiences at other salons in the area, I was kind of desperate, and there was a period of several weeks where I just sort of made do with a horrible style and color while I looked for a new salon. Several people recommended Stephan and Co. I'm so glad they did!! From the minute I walked in I knew this would work out. The atmosphere is upscale but not pretentious. I was greeted immediately upon entering by a super friendly guy, checked in, then took a seat to wait a few minutes (I was early). I am glad I came early, because it allowed me to watch several women's cuts and colors in progress, and I was so impressed with the results of each and every one of them. It's uncommon for me to see every woman walk out of a salon looking great, and maybe it was just a great day today, but I found myself so relieved that I had chosen this salon based on the women I saw leaving having just had their hair done. When it was my turn, Brittany came to greet me, full of energy and warmth. My consultation went really well- she listened to my wants, concerns, and seemed totally confident. That instilled confidence in me. When it was time to wait for the color to set, I was offered a cool glass of lemon water in a real glass, while I sat in a comfortable, well-decorated area. Then came the person who was going to wash my hair. She was also super friendly. She washed my hair, and when it came time to condition, I received one of the best scalp massages I've ever received. I was so relaxed by the time she was finished! Then it was time for the cut, and I just have to say that it turned out exactly as I pictured it in my head (as well as the photos I showed her at the beginning). Brittany was able to use her tremendous skill and work with my hair's texture and current color issues and give me exactly what I wanted.
