The food here is alway on point. If you want your soul food fix then this is the place to be. This visit is a strong four. A couple of things could have been better. For starters our server Zipporiah sat us near a large family. Easily 12-15 members. Maybe she thought they were about to leave but they were still seated and chopping up as families do. Me & Bae didn't know those people. The restaurant was not packed. Three places I won't sit in restaurants: by the kitchen, by the bathrooms and way in the back. Otherwise I let the servers do their job of balancing the customers. I should have asked for a different seat. Our lunch date was just okay but having to talk to each other over that family wasn't fun for me. Literally one table over and yes booths were available. The other reason for the four? Being rushed. Bae eats like he's running out of time. I eat much slower. I'd barely gotten the sour cream and butter in my loaded baked potato good before we were asked if we needed boxes. To which I replied that I was still enjoying my meal. Now if there was a reason for us to be rushed then communicate this. I've had many a server say that they are about to leave or shift change is happening so they ask to cash us out before they leave. If the restaurant is slammed and we're just camping out then it makes sense to try to turn the table quickly. I guess we weren't eating fast enough because Bae noticed a slight shift in her attitude towards us. The food? Banging! We ordered fried chicken wings as our appetizer. Talk about a speedy delivery of hot chicken wings! So good! Fish was friend to perfection. Why lemon pepper? I wanted to do something different. Zipporiah was very accommodating along if I wanted just one piece with lemon pepper. Also, our order did come out right. Will we go back? Absolutely. This place is a Greensboro staple! read more

I recently visited because I was deeply craving soul food. This is a very soulful older looking building. It was buzzing with business but wasn't so loud you'd be annoyed if you at there. I took my food to go. You order at the main counter the give your ticket to the back kitchen and wait to be called. The wait wasn't long at all maybe 10-15 minutes. I ordered the fried catfish, mac and cheese , potato salad , collard greens, sweet potatoes/ candied yams and it came with corn bread. And banana pudding. First off the catfish was cooked to perfect and seasoned well. I burned my mouth in a good way because I didn't wait until it cooled it was so good. For the sides; the mac and cheese was not something I enjoyed the noodles were extremely over cooked and too soft , there was no cheesy top and the cheese was very separated that was there. The greens were sweet and I personally prefer savory greens but if that's your jam you'll love these greens. However the potato salad and yams were perfection and I will get those again. The banana pudding was your topical southern vanilla wafer banana pudding. I did enjoy it and the portion size was great too. It didn't make it through the night. Overall I feel like the do something's better than others and they're worth a visit. read more

So my dude and I were here for states wrestling. A couple of natives told us about this spot. So we stopped by to check out all the hype. This building seems to be very old and ran down. It was very crowded so we decided to order out. We got the fried catfish with a side of collards, candy yams added hush puppies, coleslaw and banana pudding. The catfish was salty but fried well, collards were fine, candy yams were good and sweet. I loved my coleslaw, banana pudding was good. Overall it was a typical soul food place I wanted a wow moment but I didn't get it. Oh the sweet tea was liquid diabetes we couldn't finish that. But y'all check em out for yourself! read more

I keep hoping after all these years,Stephanie's would bring the "soul" into their soul food and improve their customer service. Neither has happened and I'll just say, keep your hard earned money and go and cook for yourself. The improvements which are needed in this old Quincy steakhouse building are the same as it was in the early 2000s over 25 years ago. I really want to be able to support a minority and female owned establishment but wow, they make it hard. On this visit, a woman was waiting on a smothered turkey wings dinner and had waited over an hour and was never advised they were out. Just pour customer service and they didn't even bother to try to make it right. At the least, restaurant should have refunded her money and gave her a free dinner for her time. Funny story,15 years ago we came to Stephanie's after my cousin's graduation from NCA&T and today we stopped here for some good southern cuisine as we sent my daughter off to college at NCA&T and it was still as good as I remembered then. Pat yourself on the back because that says A LOT! Anthony greeted us at the door and was also our waiter. He was so polite and had quite the sense of humor haha. We absolutely loved his wittiness and he knew the menu well and helped us order. Give that man a raise haha! The space reminds you of a mom & pop's diner. Nothing to write home about BUT it was very cozy. They had r&b hits playing and since music is my love language, I loved it. The pricing is very reasonable, I got the fried chicken which included 2 sides & your choice of bread. I got the Mac & cheese and yams because they are the perfect pair haha with a yeast roll. The chicken was seasoned well & had the right amount of crisp. It was hot to temperature & tastes like something my grandma cooked! My daughter had the smothered pork chops & devoured them, literally there was nothing left on her plate haha. So when I come back, I'll be sure to try that. Stephanie's has been added to the list of places I must go when I'm in Greensboro. We went on Friday for lunch and EVERYTHING was delicious. I was a little disappointed that they got rid of the baby shower meatballs...hopefully they'll come back. I ordered salmon cakes, cabbage, broccoli casserole & hush puppies. My friend had the fried wing platter with squash, rice and gravy, and okra. The food was hot and seasoned to perfection. The wings were cooked to a perfect, crispy golden brown. Whenever I try out a restaurant he has visited on his campaign trail, the food has never missed, and today is no exception. I got the whole fried chicken wing plate with sides of sweet Yams and the broccoli chicken and cheese casserole, and every dish was a certified banger. The fried chicken skin was crispy without feeling overly oily and the meat on the inside is packed with flavor. The yams were also not overly sweet, but my biggest surprise was the casserole -- the chicken is juicy and moist while the cheese on top is crispy and offered a contrasting texture. The broccoli in it mainly made me feel less guilty about stuffing my face with a huge plate of meat. Speaking of the huge plate, the portion size here is very generous and reasonably priced, especially in today's economy. The restaurant atmosphere was also very cozy and i cannot say enough about how nice all of the staff were. We got the sweet tea here, and when our waiter saw how my girlfriend loved the drink so much, he even topped her drink off as we were finishing up and gave her a to go cup so she can have more on the road. Greensboro, I know y'all used to have this idea of Stephanie's but one thing I have to say to defend Stephanie's. The food is consistent. I found this restaurant by asking the hotel concierge about good soul food restaurants. My mom and I came in on Sunday before the crowd. The service was good. The restaurant is large. I recommend for large groups. I did move booths due to cracked seating but it was not a problem at all. I ordered the chicken wings, Mac, and yams with cornbread. The chicken wings were amazing. Fried to perfection. Not greasy at all. The Mac was okay, nothing spectacular. The yams were really good. The cornbread was perfect, not too crumbly but also moist. I just moved to Greensboro, and my boyfriend put me on to this restaurant. Let me first say WOW! This is some good ass (excuse my french) soul food in the Greensboro area. This is a staple in Greensboro. They have some of the best soul food. The candied yams are everything!! The mac and cheese is baked just right. The cabbage was okay - I've had better. The cornbread melts in your mouth. This is the first time I got the wings and they were fried hard. The service was okay; I think she may have been overwhelmed as she didn't check on us as much as other servers in the past. It's always busy, but the wait for our food wasn't bad. Moms in the hospital, Wesley Long. We needed her to eat. Hospital food can be bland and tasteless. I searched soul food on Yelp. Stephanie's came up in the top of the list. Stephanie's is located on 2507 block of Randleman Rd in Greensboro. Sis and I headed out to pick up some local Grindz. Stephanie's is located less than 4 miles from the hospital. Convenience is important when you want to get back quickly. We pulled up to the red and white building. The parking lot was completely full. Folks were waiting to get a parking space. We entered the restaurant. Man, they were playing old school music from back in the day. Lionel Ritchie, Commodores- just good music. The dining area is huge. You have to wait to be seated. We ordered take out at the counter. She gave us a few minutes to review the menu. I ordered the Vegetable plate. $12.49. Mom wanted fried okra, Fried Squash and Yams. I wanted the Macaroni and Cheese. Baby Sis ordered the Pork Chip plate..$13.99. Drinks are separate $3.25. My sweet tea had an after taste. I switched it out for the Grape Kool-aide. It was a head banger 100% Delicious The menu consists of Comfort Food choices... Meatloaf, Beef Tips, Veggie Plate, Meatball Dinner. They create a variety of sandwiches. They have a smorgasbord of world famous sides. $4.60 each. They even have a kids menu to choose from. Let's talk Food!!! Just had the displeasure of this restaurant AGAIN. They have decent food and I want to give them a chance but EVERY time I go the service and PROFESSIONALISM is HORRIBLE (I'm normally willing to deal with it because I order online and get to go and the to go area is staffed by what looks like high school and college kids). Well......Today my elderly parents and I went to Stephanie's II, we stood at the hostess stand waiting to be seated for about 4 minutes without any acknowledgment of our presence. Per usual there are multiple staff members standing behind the counter talking to one another. The moment a party of Caucasian folks walked in and stood behind us waiting, someone immediately came over to seat us. She Asked how many in the party and we said 3, she sees three people physically standing there and we were given two menus. We were seated at a table right at the door and a party that was leaving stood over us and literally leaned on the side of the booth such that one of the ladies was literally touching me (Not the businesses fault). No waiter came through the section at all for 10 minutes. My parents and I got up and moved seats closer to where the other party that came in immediately after us was. We'd normally make a request to move with the hostess or server but there was still no hostess stationed at the hostess stand and no waiter came through the section at all. Of course the party seated after us already had their drinks and order taken. My father walks up to the counter and asks one of the ladies if someone could come over and take our order, he was visibly upset but did not raise his voice. The lady he spoke with told the server assigned to the section and she walks down the aisle and starts yelling at us (initially started when she was still two tables away and continued when standing at our table) that we just got to her section. This was not about service this was about her proving a point. I guess the point was she wasn't going to be rushed and she wanted my elderly father to know that. At other establishments they have the courtesy and professionalism to offer an apology and service recovery when someone is unhappy even if their perception is the Customer is being unreasonable. This waitress simply could have finished what she was doing and came to our table but she chose to come down the aisle yelling. Ignorance and unprofessionalism at this level never happens at other locally owned establishments. Now moving on to a broad overview of my other times coming. I normally order to go. The website gives an estimated time the order will be ready. I always come 15 mins after when they say the order will be ready as they are typically on a different kind of time (y'all know what time I'm talking about). It is NEVER ready EVEN 15 mins after promised. One time when I arrive i gave my name at the counter and they told me the order still wasn't ready. When I sit down I see an order on the shelf that I suspect is mine bc of the number of to go trays but I sit down and wait patiently bc surely it must be someone else's order. Another 15 mins goes by and I go back to the counter and ask another person to look and see if the order I suspected was mine was indeed mine lo and behold it is. So I now get my food 30 mins after promised and cold. The food is comparable to K&W but well seasoned. Nothing to write home about but definitely southern cooking that would be a nice break from you having to cook at home every day. Unfortunately today was the final straw for me. read more

Ordered: -salmon patties with coleslaw, collards, and hushpuppies for $9.99 (delicious, flavorful, and filling) -fried chicken sandwich for $9.99 with yams (none of the included toppings were included, sandwich was bare) -black eyed peas for $2.75 (did not receive this item since they actually do not have it. Luckily I checked the order before leaving so that I could inform them. They swapped it out for more yams) -caramel pecan brownie for $4.95 (decadent and filling) -chocolate cake for $4.95 Pro: -they offer numerous items (all southern comfort foods) -affordable -portions are large -entrees and sides are delicious and filling -employees are friendly and efficient -all employees were wearing masks related to COVID-19. One was wearing her mask under her nose -areas to order/pay and pick-up meals were separated for social distancing. They are not open for dine-in Cons: -online menu is misleading. Some of the items offered they don't have. -online ordering was not working when I tried to order. I tried twice and ended up having to call in the order -online website says they have a drive thru and a separate drive thru menu. When I called to place the order the person taking the call said they are a restaurant and did not have a drive thru -takes a while to reach them over the phone -inaccurate orders (see above) -food was not ready on time. Ordered at 5:35 pm. It rang for about 5 minutes. Conversation was about 2 minutes long. We were informed that our order would be ready in 25 minutes. It was not ready when we arrived so they gave us a buzzer. I waited in the car and then went through the exit door (as instructed) to pick up the meal when the buzzer went off. Our order was ready about 50 minutes after we ordered. We stopped here while driving through the area. We are unlikely to return since we typically are not in this area. read more

You know you're in the right spot when you find a home cooking local spot that is packed. When we came in there was a line for dine in and a line for carry out. We waited for a table, but not too long. Everyone was friendly and the all the food we got was delicious. We had no room for dessert, but couldn't go without, so we took it to go.
