One night our kitchen sink started leaking (the pipe under the sink) non-stop after running the dishwasher. After that, any water we ran down the sink (on both the left and right sides) caused the pipe to leak immediately. It was dreadful! The next day, I called our normal handyman but he was not able to come for 2 days and after calling 3 plumbers (all of whom either were hard to reach or were fairly rude/prideful on the phone), I was SO relieved to reach Mark Stephen. It was so nice that he was willing to come that day, even though I had to leave work early... i was over the moon to hear he would fit me into his schedule the same day. He taught me how to use the garbage disposal (I had been using it wrong all these years), took the time to explain what the 2 issues were (clogged sink and loose pipe), and then fixed both issues in perhaps 15-20minutes (i wasn't really timing him, but it seemed really fast). Hello, everyone, this is me again, a month later with another good story about a plumbing problem and a nice man called Stephen solving it. We called him because our kitchen sink pipe was sort of clogged. Not so that we couldn't use it, but that the water was coming out really slow. He came over right away, like every other time he came. He took a look and told us that it was actually a drain clog, not a pipe clog. He told us how to fix it and then that was it. We tried it, and it worked! We tried to give him 20 dollars for the tip on how to fix it, and coming over to fix it after work hours, but he wouldn't accept it. We gave it to him, he put it on the counter. We gave it to him again, he put it on the stove. After multiple more tries, we gave up. Thank you SO much for fixing ALL our problems. It really means a lot to us. I'm really glad to have found Stephens Plumbing. My old bathtub started leaking a few weeks back. I called a few plumbers that I found on Yelp and found the following: - Some charge a few hundred bucks just for showing up. - The ones that don't have this surcharge will cost you dearly. I tried getting a free estimate from another local plumber and they gave me a $2000+ estimate for fixing the leak - that is $550 for an initial assessment (cutting the sheet rock on my wall) and another $500 - $1000 to fix either the faucet or replace the drain. And after that I'll have to call another contractor to patch up the sheet rock. Also, I live in a townhouse with really high ceilings (10+ feet) and when I explain my situation a few plumbers I called said they can't do it because that's too high. So I called Stephens plumbing and he showed up the next day, on time. He assessed the problem and decided the leak is minor enough; he jumped into my bathtub, checked the pipes, ran some tests, got a little wet, tightened a few things, and said he's not sure if that will fix the problem because he didn't any smoking gun evidence of a leak. He said let's try if that works. If it doesn't, and he'll come back. It's been more than two weeks and so far I haven't had to call him back. I appreciate his honesty, and his willingness to put the customer first. His estimates (if he had to open the sheet rock) are also substantially lower than the $2000 the other plumber quoted me. Like the other reviewer I had an emergency plumbing situation ON SUNDAY and called several plumbers who were hesitant to have to work on Sunday. Really? Stephen very happily accepted the job, arrived in short time and fixed the problem (leaky kitchen pipes dribbling water all over our new kitchen). Mark and his assistant replaced my p-trap and seals a couple of months ago. Last night my wife noticed another leak from the same faucet/sink. When I called them to see if they could swing by to check out what could possibly be causing this, they managed to swing by within an hour. Called for an issue with our water heater just after noon. The operator told me her technicians were out on calls already and asked if tomorrow a.m. would work. None of them could come out until the next day! Funny how things work out because I turned to Craigslist and found Stephen Plumbing Service. I really can't praise these guys enough. I had to write an update because they have helped us out with 2 other issues in our home. Our water heater went out and we had a different company come out and look at it. I came home at night to a leaky pipe in the wall and was frantically giving plumbers a call. Mark was very responsive and came over right away. Thank you for being available on VERY short notice! As another reviewer put it, Stephen is a no-nonsense guy and he was also able to reassure me that the problem could be fixed. Mark was able to detect the leak and fix it. Unfortunately, there is a hole in my wall (the size of a shoebox), but I was half expecting that already since there is no easy way to get to the leaky pipe from the crawl space. The wall can be repaired but I'm glad the water leaked into my crawlspace instead of inside my house and ruining the floors! FYI, the leak was caused by a nail going into the pipe from our recent baseboard installation in the room adjacent to the bathroom. I love Stephen's Plumbing! I had had two other plumbing companies come to my house for various small problems, and while each of them were fine, I felt I could find a better company so I kept looking. But no more! I have had Stephen's Plumbing out for three service calls and each time I was impressed by their speed of response, their thoughtful considered and effective solutions and their wish to keep the costs reasonable and fair. The first time they came to snake a backed up pipe and found four separate areas that were each contributing to the problem (which explains why the previous companies had only solved the problem for limited periods of time) and gave me a few simple instructions on how to keep it clear in the future which have been working beautifully. The second time, I needed replacement drains for two 1980s style bath fixtures and they were able to source one replacement but as people stopped making the brass option way back, actually built one working and matching drain out of the two broken parts. Despite all this effort, they let me know in advance that it wouldn't take up the whole hour and to look for some little projects to have them finish up with so I would get my money's worth out of the service call. These guys are great! They were referred by a friend and since they were local I gave them a try. They showed up on time replaced my garbage disposal and fixed the pipes under my sink professionally and at a very reasonable price. I will not write a review with only one experience though. I am pleased to say they have been just as professional each of the five times I have used them. This last time was when my water heater went out. Since it was such a large expense I got estimates from other places. WHAT A WASTE OF TIME.
