Wow, Talk about the worst attempt to rip someone off just because she is a female and at a nice house. Had two issues for them to look at one was a septic transfer tank, which they wouldn't even touch unless it was pumped out. He said they were not capable of pumping it out, and told me to call a septic service company to pump it out. But did nothing to try and troubleshoot the electrical, or connections to the pump. Second issue was a sprinkler pipe, where the fitting was underground and had to be dug up. literally 1 foot underground. The part was a three-quarter inch PVC elbow, and one short section of PVC pipe and one coupling. With glue, the cost may be around $20. Estimated cost for them to repair $730! Excuse was you have to let the glue cure and then he would have to test it. Glue curing on PVC pipe usually 10 minutes from my experience. My girlfriend was the one who was on site, and this is what they told her. She immediately said that was outrageous, then they came back with another offer of $500. I showed up, had to pay them $125 to go away for their service call. Will never ever use or suggests to anyone to use them. The picture is what they wanted to for the section of pvc pipe. I never write reviews or complain about anything even shotty work, but this was absolutely unbelievably ridiculous. read more

Poncho came out and assess the problem with my older air conditioner. I was prepared for him to tell me that I had to pay around $10,000 to replace it. Instead, he offers a solution where I won't have to replace it. I asked him out right if I should do that mini replace it. And he actually said no, I think this is a good fix, and it will save you some money. He was right. he fix the problem, and was extremely professional toward me, and was extremely descriptive, and went above, and beyond to make sure that I was happy with the solution. I have happily been doing good reviews for Stephens. Then I hired them to replace a Mixet shower valve wirh a HandGrohe. This on a tile wall. I think my complaint is based on the installation sequence being done in reverse and cause layers of rework and trips to the shop. That was done ok if not quite sealed according to spec's in the install doc. And decorative parts were swapped with old on another bathroom. At first when I repeatedly request brushed nickel, chrome were installed - and that at the last minute cause a panic run to Home Depot. The bill was $2,912. For a shower fixture. No warning and a claim I was getting a break on a $3,500 bill. Outrageous. I paid it. But looking elsewhere. read more

We called on Wednesday, spoke with Ryan Stephens and Oscar showed up early the next day. Customer service was awesome and the response time was really awesome considering how hot San Pedro has been. Oscar arrived and was very professional and consciences about work shoes on our carpet. He and got straight to work and found the problem VERY quickly for which we are grateful. Hired Stephens to help with my kitchen sink that got backed up recently. Called for service on a sunday which I was informed they charge double for weekends, so I declined. But they were able to come out next day instead for regular charge. Monday: Receptionist called me back at 8am to confirm the request. The technician Victor was friendly and was able to snake out the drain pretty quickly. Luckily there wasn't any other problems like having to replace my disposal unit. I left 4/5 because the time slot given was 9-12. Receptionist called to say it would now be 12:30, yet it became more realistically around 2:30. Overall, I would hire/refer them again based on this 1st experience. read more

I highly highly highly un-recommend this service for any plumbing issues. I had them come out on Wednesday of last week to give me a quote (which I later found out to be extremely high) to fix a broken pipe under my house coming from the second story to the first story out to the main drain. The experienced plumber stated it would take a full crew a few hours and the service could be completed Friday. After getting off work at 7am after being up all night I came home to expect a plumbing crew who had not shown up. I received a call from the experienced plumber and he stated after further consideration that there would have to be some wet dirt/ mud removed by a professional company before they could do the work. Why didn't he mention that two days prior? He recommended a dry out company and said to call them. I called the company and they stated they could come over and do the work immediately (0930). I called Stevens and asked if they dried the dirt then and now if they could still do the repair today and the stated "yes no problem we can be right over when they are done this afternoon". I let the dry down company know they were good to go and that the $2500 dirt removal service Stevens had required was a go. Mid dry out service I received a phone call from Stevens starting "sorry we mistakenly over booked and we can't do your repair until Tuesday of next week (4 days from now). With this $2500 wet dirt removal service they requested currently underway, what made them think waiting 4 additional days would be an option after a verbal agreement they would come immediately following the wet dirt removal? I was extremely upset they did that to me while I had wet dirt actively being removed from underneath my house. The unapologetic man on the phone stated it was not his fault and that his Plummer was confused. I told him that's no way to do business and mess with The livelihood and finances of customers already facing financial strains during these times. They left me without a Plummer while wet dirt was being removed. Thankfully the wet dirt crew knew a great Plummer who came and did Twice the work for %50 less than what they quoted me. They gave me a $1700 invoice for a $875 job. All in all I was out over $4000. I would never hire Stevens to replace a light bulb much less step foot in my house do do plumbing ever again. Very unprofessional plumber with zero people skills and no follow through. Lack of communication and follow through with terrible customer service from the clerical staff as well. Stephens Plumbing is well known in South Bay, they started their operation in the 80's with 1 truck and grew to one of the biggest plumbing companies in that area. They installed an 36 gal electrical water heater in one of the rental units in Miraleste Canyon Estates in San Pedro some time ago and upon recent inspection I found out that the connector fitting between the flex pipe and the water heater was corroded because of the previous installation error. After sending them email with photos and couple of phone calls they send a plumber who took care as a warranty repair. Excellent customer service by Joan - she knows how to make a customer happy without sending him on a wild goose chase and Ryan and Greg who saw the photos and authorized warranty repair. Absolutely wonderful! Was trying to help a friend in an emergency situation. He was having bad luck finding a service with reasonable rates, seeing as he is on a fixed income. When I called, their service had a technician call me. When I spoke to Galen, he informed me of the typical difference in who is responsible for what in mobile parks, as well as providing his company's rates. With that knowledge, plus knowing the home was able to have water stopped prior to entry; we were able to make a good judgement call to arrange for services during the day when rates are more manageable than middle of the night rates. The technician who came out was able to diagnose the issue in under an hour, not speeding, nor taking his set time to drag out service. He apologies for not having certain necessary parts; completely understandable because of how this home had been piecemealed and the part necessary was not completely a standard, every day use item. He arranged to come back the following day, showed up as promised and completed the work in the time estimated for the quote; this able to keep the quote true. I HIGHLY recommend going with them. We had an emergency situation where our garbage disposal stopped working and water backed up into the kitchen sink and also into the sink of a bathroom at the back of the house. I chose this company based on Yelp reviews. They called me back quickly, and were very professional over the phone. Sebastian came out the same day. He was prompt and spent quite a bit of time trying to identify the problem. He wound up being here (unobtrusively) for HOURS, bringing 3 different machines and also calling a colleague to come help. He was determined to find out the source of the problem. Ultimately, he determined that we needed to have an exterior clean-out installed. He made it clear that he could not guarantee that the pipes would not ultimately need replacement but recommended the cleanout as the next course of action. Throughout the entire time, they were here both men were respectful of me and my home. They put on boot covers they had brought with them and cleaned up before they left. Sebastian gave us an estimate for parts and labor for the cleanout installation, and after discussing it we agreed to undertake the work. Of course, on the scheduled day, the skies opened and it rained solidly the entire time. It was cold. This was all during the time when it rained non-stop and was an atmospheric river here in our area. Sebastian worked outside the entire time, uncomplainingly. The weather was so awful it probably made him sick afterwards but he plugged away and solved the problem. He always explained to us exactly what he saw, next steps and alternatives. The prices were reasonable, in line with the estimate and he left my house immaculate, including mopping up, before he left. I have a different emergency and will be calling them back. Honest, hardworking, determined, reasonably priced, respectful and excellent at diagnosing and solving the problem after doing whatever it took. So impressive! DO NOT USE. Plumbing services were extremely disappointing. First appointment for estimate was cancelled. Other appointments Jose showed up late. I was promised written estimates more than once, and never received any. Perhaps it was my error to assume that when I asked "So, the total is about $1,600" that I was talking about the total bill but Jose was taking about just one part of the bill. I was shocked to receive a bill for $2,500. They lowered the bill to $2,200 and promised discounts for repairs if done within the next six months, which of course will not happen as I will not be using them again. On the flip side prior to the pluming service I used this company for HVAC. Poncho serviced my HVAC and I was completely satisfied with service and cost. I would give him 5 stars. Reached out to several companies and they all flaked. So I was ecstatic when they showed. The first visit was great. The guy checked out vents for free. He told us that the vents were chewed and that they may need to be replaced (which we were down to do) but we can also try cleaning. So of course we're going the cheaper route and went for the cleaning. Now the second visit was also good. The two guys were friendly. They did call the first guy to tell him about the damage and you can tell that they thought a cleaning was a waste of time. But the dude told them to go ahead and clean it which they did. Afterwards we found out that cleaning was a waste of time and a waste of a lot of money. The smell didn't go away and nothing they did helped the situation. We truly felt like we got taken advantage of. They could've told us from the beginning that cleaning wouldn't help instead of setting the appt and doing the job. I mean they are the experts. We even tried contacting them back to schedule a full replacement and nothing. I feel like they knew they were taking advantage of our ignorance. We ended up getting it all replaced at double what we paid for the cleaning. Bottom line, don't trust what they say. They are friendly but they will also take advantage. read more
