Bought my first milsurp rifle. Great condition, but had some pitting on the barrel. Online searching looked like it would be ok. But being a newbie to milsurp I wanted someone to reinforce that, so brought to Sterling Arsenal. The one guy and the gunsmith were both incredibly friendly and welcoming. Looked at the pitting (told me it was fine) and spent a few minutes giving me a few pointers on other things to do. No air of superiority to a newbie, as laid back and nice as could be. And then when I asked what the cost was (after all I was asking for their expertise) they said, "nothing"! (As opposed to another gunsmith in NOVA that told me he had a $50 minimum to walk through the door). So I told them the least I could do was give a glowing review. Absolutely garbage service. Drove an hour and a half after calling them the day before asking to come in and get a quote on selling a rifle. Was told to come in and it would be looked at...show up just to be told they're done buying for the week and wouldn't even look at it. Workers were extremely rude and stink of arrogance. Mixed feelings... I had visited this place three times. One time was good. However, the last two times that I went there went from bad to worst (they locked my Ruger AR-556 delta ring). First, there is no excuse for rudeness towards a client. You don't interrupt a customer when he is trying to explain a situation by saying "well what is your problem..." you hear the customer (that is why we have two ears and one mouth). Second, you don't tell you, client, what to do with his rifle such as "you don't need to remove the handguards [of your gun]" (they locked my delta ring in the first place) and for example: how I would install or remove a picatinny rail? So if you want to visit Sterling Arsenal Works & Tactical Supply, they will get things done. However, you have 33% probability of been mistreated. Not good! read more

Sterling Arsenal rebarreled my Auto Ordnance Tommy gun and did a flawless "parkerized" Cerakote. These guys must be one of only a few in the country willing to take on this job due to the intricacies of removing an AO barrel (they don't make it easy). I was rejected by three other gunsmiths. This project took a while, but I am extremely pleased with the result. Price was reasonable even though it sounds like they had to buy the specialized barrel tool. The employees here are phenomenal! I am new to this whole gun thing, and after going to several shooting ranges and trying many, many different handguns, I finally decided on what I was comfortable with. Ryan, and Luis were extremely patient, helpful, and honest with me. My husband and I purchased 2 handguns, and with me being left-handed, they moved the magazine release from the left to the right at no extra charge. The olive skinned guy who kept hounding us about what I was looking for was extremely creepy. He acted like he may not have taken his PTSD meds. He really didn't seem to know more than basics about the weapons. That may be impressive to people who know nothing about weapons but my significant other is extremely knowledgeable on most weapons. That guy was handling the weapons like toys and was acting very paranoid when us or the other two customers tried to handle them. The location isn't great as it's a little hard to see because of the small sign and they really don't have a good/large selection. I'd give 0 stars if I could. I'd recommend going to the store with the range near Ashburn. UPDATE for Louis's comment: Congrats on doing little more than trying to argue about *MY* experience there and advertise the store. No, really..I applaud your efforts at such things. My opinion still stands, as it's an accurate review of what happened there. I stopped by Sterling Arsenal a couple of months ago for assistance in selecting my first handgun. The shop was clean and the staff immediately greeted my wife and I. We had to wait maybe 10 minutes for a member of the staff to be available as they were all assisting other customers; no problem. There were plenty of things to look at while we waited. The salesperson we worked with was very informative and helpful. We selected our new firearm and the sales process was painless. I'd say we were in and out within perhaps 45 minutes even with all our questions and lack of knowledge. Again, a great experience for a first time buyer and we'll be back soon. Thanks! read more

I love Sterling Arsenal. Luis is a stand up guy who has a good thing going here. I've used them for gun smithing, and NFA purchases and have never been disappointed with their customer service, communication and quality of work. The shop is small, so their show room isn't the biggest, but they still have a good deal of firearms to show and handle, as well as a good deal of NFA items as well. I don't want to whimsically hand out a five star review but my experience here confirms the rating. I called about getting some custom work done to a firearm and was pleasantly surprised that Sterling Arsenal could provide the service practically overnight. Of course due to the very last minute Christmas rush, I think it took two business days for SA to complete the job, but I was also busy in the interim and didn't make it back down to Sterling until the end of the week. Luis called me personally with some questions regarding my firearm and gave me the option to personalize my firearm, though he did have some input as well. I ended up going with his input after all but I liked the versatility and customer focus. Luis also called me after work hours (SA's hours) to let me know that my firearm was ready for pickup a day earlier than had been quoted. I feel that my experience was smooth. All that aside, they have a nice selection of high end weapons, accessories, gear and lots of customizable avenues if you have the desire (and cash) to build a weapon to completely customized specifications. This dummy(me) decided to build a AR-10 stripped lower and managed to lose the detent and spring for the forward takedown pin. The guys at the shop hooked me up for free, so I bought some AR-10 PMAGs and range bag then and there(I had previously bought a Shield from them). Their show room is very easily accessible and the staff is friendly. Prices are a bit on the high side, but I've yet to see a gun store in NOVA where the prices aren't a bit on the high side. read more

Great gun shop with good smith services.

I was in the market to purchase my first AR, and since I'm a lefty, things are a bit tricky. My FFL recommended Sterling as the top shelf rifle he'd get if he had the knowledge when he had started out in ARs. I ordered at lefty PREPR and expected to wait 2-weeks for machining, parts, and assembly to occur. It was delivered by the owner, personally, in three days. After about 100 rounds, I took the rifle in to do a little troubleshooting on my stance, grip, etc. and the owner kept the shop open at least half an hour after closing time to make sure I'd gotten all my needs met. He even knocked off 50 bucks on a pistol I ended up purchasing. These guys are not just armorers, they are also good at getting you to the place you want to be as a shooter. I plan to put as much business through this outfit as I can. read more

This is my review of Sterling Arsenal in Sterling Virginia. I recently purchased my first new AR-556 which is made by Ruger. I went to Sterling Arsenal which is close to my house for some upgrade work to the rifle. I had the following work performed on the rifle. 15" Sterling Arsenal M-LOK Rail, Low Profile Gas Block, Magpul MBUS Front Sight, Magpul Mil Spec SL Stock, Magpul MS4 Dual QD Sling Gen 2 Black, Magpul Angle Fore M-LOK Grip - Black, QD Butt Plate, Extended Charging Handle Latch and a Geissele Super Semi-Automatic -Enhanced Trigger. I dropped over $875.00 for the parts and work. The customer service I had was the worst experience I ever had in any armory. To clarify I had never purchased an AR before so I am considered an extreme novice when it comes to AR's. Here is my experience. I walked into Sterling Arsenal with a brand new Ruger AR-556 and was met by Dalton sitting at the front desk. I was asked "what I'd like to get done". After a few minutes of talking and being shown a modified shop AR which has the same mods I am getting, I left a $310.00 deposit. To my surprise and joy I was contacted three days ahead of the expected completion delivery date and was told the rifle was ready for pickup. Now the worst customer service begins. When I received the gun and during inspection, the first thing I discovered the gun was so over oiled that there was a puddle of oil on the Piccatiny rail and on the modified charger. There was so much oil that when the rifle rubbed against my shirt it left oil stains on it. I asked what was this and from my knowledge with pistol and revolver cleaning along with previously viewing the Ruger cleaning and oiling requirements video on the Ruger website, I knew this was wrong. Dalton decides to tell me that this is normal and that this is OK. As he's telling me this is tone was pure arrogance. I ask for the excess oil to be cleaned off. I now test the modified charger latch which is designed to allow you to pull the charger easily with one finger. At this time the charger was twice as hard to pull with two fingers then the unmodified charger. Dalton, as usual, then tells me that this is normal and I need to put a bunch of rounds through it. I did not accept his explanation, so he decides to get up and walk away. To be clear after the oil disaster I was pissed and the charger issue pushed me to the edge and voices got louder. Dalton refused to accept my explanation that it was easier to pull then it is now. I would like to thank another person at the shop. I wish I knew his name. He was about 5'9" tall and bald. This person sat down with me and tried to fix this problem which was discovered to be something was rubbing when the charger was being pulled. We removed and reinstalled the charger with no improvement. We finally removed the carrier and reinstalled it. At this point there was no more rubbing and the charger worked as sold to me. Dalton still had not returned to the desk where I was sitting. Please note that Dalton was there all the time I was paying my $575.00 balance. When Dalton returned he sat down at the desk and refused to look at me in the face. He refused to take the rifle and try the properly working charger. I wish the owner who I have no issues with starts observing his sales reps, especially DALTON!. read more

A great sales staff with a very knowledgeable and capable customization team. Selection on the shelves is good, but not vast, they have most of the mainstream and practical weapons. Some of the weapons off the shelf if you're looking for a great deal on something specific are a little on the more expensive side, but nothing I wouldn't pay versus some of the horrible customer service I've had at other gun shops, and honestly NOVA rent probably has more to do with that than anything else. You owe it to yourself to go look at some of their custom work; their coatings and gunsmithing is amazing. If you're buying an ar style rifle shopping here is well worth it, the sterling arsenal ar-15 is worlds better for the price than other ar-15s I had handled, beyond compare. It shot like a dream, the coating and furniture was perfect. Sales won't leave you alone in their store (for good reason, they sell weapons) but will take their time and are very knowledgeable about all of their firearms, if you're looking for a gun shop populated with professional and capable members of the gun community who can advise and support you, I recommend Sterling arsenal. read more

I haven't purchased a handgun or weapon there yet, but I brought in my AR to purchase a part. They installed it for me in 15 minutes while I waited, and had to customize (grind) it to get it to fit just right. They get extra kudos for customer service. I've also purchased some ammo and magazines at various times, their prices seem reasonable. SAW seems very friendly and knowledgeable, and their gunsmith shop appears to have a good amount of machines in it. They are a small shop, so their selection of handguns and rifles are fairly minimal compared to larger, long established shops. But they have a good range and will probably order anything you want. Speaking of which, their shop is small, but has a very comfortable vibe/feel to it, which I like. Almost like your favorite pub. Hmm.. maybe they should open a gun/cigar bar? Probably doable in VA. That would definitely get the 5th star!! Think about it. Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms.. I'll bring the chips! read more

I just had a trigger job done on my son's .270 Remington model 700. They installed a Shilen trigger set to 1.75 pounds. It is a hair trigger but my son and I are accustomed to light pulls as we used to shoot bench rest rifles a lot. I am satisfied with the outcome and will take other guns in for custom work. A asset to the shooting world. I was looking for a shop to do some custom work on my Glock. And after looking at online sites, I remembered seeing Sterling Arsenal at some gun shows. After some research from Facebook, YouTube, and here, I decided to email them. I sent a email about the work on a Sunday night around 8-830 and within 5 minute Luis responded. And after a few quick back and forth emails I told him I'd swing by Monday after work. Get there and meet Luis, real nice guy helped me handle a few of there full custom Glocks and pick what I wanted done. These guys do some killer work and are all real nice guys who treat everyone from the newbie to vet with respect. I ended up,with another guy to do my paper work for the custom work and left excited to get her back. I get home decided I wanted another thing done, gave them a call Luis wasn't available but the guy who answered was super friendly and after I told him what I wanted to add he said no problem and would add it to my ticket. Now the wait 3-4weeks begins but it is gonna be worth the wait. So if you want a small shop who does amazing work at good prices give these guys a shot you will not be disappointed. read more

I originally had left a review on Google, but the owner (or whomever manages their social media presence) decided to get aggressive and basically belittle me for being a low priority customer who doesn't spend enough money in their store to warrant importance. I'm gonna go ahead and post my review here as well, but I'll be a bit more straight and to the point. The owner is a nice dude in person, the staff are mostly all right, their custom gunsmithing services are pretty good, but they REALLY suffer when it comes to treating their customers with respect. Even just browsing their replies to their low ratings is entertaining. Their FFL fees are $58 dollars and when I complained about it they basically told me to suck it up because $58 is nothing compared to the price of my expensive firearm ($120 lower receiver) I had already paid for and since I don't spend thousands of dollars (paraphrasing) I don't make them enough money to be worth their business. read more

As someone who isn't extremely knowledgeable about guns (just getting into them) I can't tell you how many gun shops I have been in and either the employees are really standoffish or just don't seem interested in speaking with me. Now I originally came to this facility to get some work done on my AK47 but after speaking with Greg about what I wanted done and talking it through, I decided not to get the work done. Now here is the thing HE recommended I shouldn't get it done, I was pretty surprised at how honest and up front he was, it was very refreshing. After speaking for a few minutes about some other guns I was interested in, he showed me a wide range of AR's and AK's.. He was very knowledgeable and took the time to explain to me if I had a question on anything. Long story short, I walked out with an order for a new AR-15 which I am very excited about and I will end up selling my AK, I highly recommend this place, staff was awesome, they have a good selection. read more
