I crossed over Waters while vehicles were stopped in line to cross Eisenhower after the light turned green. Well a frantic lady in a Honda Accord went in to the oncoming lane racing to catch a green left turn on to Eisenhower light and suddenly BAM! I am now sitting on her roof with my feet still locked to my pedals and my Cannondale Road Bike up there with me. As I stared at my bent front forks and front wheel laying 50 feet in front of me with two VHS Tapes strawn on the road as well, I hopped off the ladies roof and she was very upset that she'd hit me. I assured her that I was fine but the Bicycle Shop I bought my bike from was just down the road. So she and I put all my stuff in her Accord, dropped the VHS's off and drove to Star. The Staff added a bit of pain and suffering to the quote, the lady paid the bill and I came out with one or two items extra once the repairs were done. I'll never buy from anyone else and I'm now a 61 year old man and this story occurred in 1987.

She was seen right away by someone working there who helped work on her bike. Not only did the person assist my wife in fixing the bike, she showed her how to fix it for next time as well. It only cost $20 to fix including the extra part. They even fixed the brakes on the bike also. This is my spot for anything bike related, I would recommend this place to anyone. I went in to get a tuneup after moving to the area and rather than charge me full price for the end-to-end service, they only fixed the couple of issues that were out of whack after the move. After returning my bike to peak operating form, they put me on the fitting rack to ensure everything was properly positioned. A couple of quick, expert tweaks later, I and my nearly 20 year old bike were back on the road running better than we had in a long time.

Onslow Island (OI) has been on my Trail Hit List for awhile now. I actually scoped OI earlier this year with my youngest, but we had to turn around that day as I did not know that the trail was only open on Wednesdays from sunrise to sundown. Yes, that's right, only open one day of the week, so plan accordingly. Today, I returned with two friends who were brave enough to come with me to check it out. And you'll see why I say brave. Read on. - Parking - OI is located in Port Wentworth on North Coastal Highway (GA-25N). Right after you cross the bridge over the Savannah River, you'll see a dirt lot. There you will find the small lot to park and the trail head. - Activity / Trail Description - OI is located within the Savannah Wildlife Refuge on the Georgia side in Port Wentworth. From the parking lot, the trail starts on a straight path to the loop portion with a cut through path in the middle (refer to pic). The trail is elevated from the rest of the vegetation and is not paved. The grass on the trail is well maintained and I know this because we encountered the landscaping guy on the way out. My reason for 3 stars is more for the pesky mosquitos, but they were part of our overall experience and too significant too ignore. The mosquitos themselves would have gotten a 1 star. They were HORRIBLE. They must have been enjoying the crisp weather as much as we were and they ALL decided to come out to play. They were so bad that we just spent our entire time dancing around and swatting. They were coating our backs. Now imagine that for 2.2 miles. Although the trail itself is nice, factories in the distance with smoke coming out of their pipes obstruct the view and made it difficult to reconnect with nature. I've read that OI is also a great place to birdwatch if that's your thing. We didn't see much today, only heard them. We saw quite a few butterflies and they say that's a loved one who has passed that is coming to visit you, so I guess that's one positive takeaway from this visit. We saw lots of cool looking plants though, super big mushrooms and a couple of pretty flowers. Other than that, it was a gorgeous day and it would have been the perfect day to enjoy a trail like this with no shade. But I guess this is Georgia, if it ain't the heat and the humidity, it's the bugs. Sigh... - What we did - When we got to the loop part, we walked to the left and walked around and went down the cut through path in the middle, so only half the loop. My Fitbit registered our walk at about 2.2 miles. - Difficulty Level - Trail, easy. Mosquitos, EXTREMELY HARD. - Heads Up - Did I mention mosquitos? Ok, end of rant. The trail info board also says that bikes are permitted, so Bikers, you're welcome to take a ride, but consider yourselves warned. Fishing is also permitted, but only from the banks adjacent to OI parking. So, needless to say, I was pretty disappointed with my experience today and it may be a one-and-done kind of trail. However, if a friend wanted to scope it out, I wouldn't say no, but I will definitely be prepared with bug spray next time.

This is one of my favorite walking/bike trails around. It is mostly paved, but there are a few…read morespots that are smalls rocks. Even on the rocky spots, it is still easy to walk/bike as it's pretty smooth. Some of the trail is covered in the woodsy areas, but it is mostly open. Love that parts of it are along the water. I like to start at mile 8.2. Although, the parking lot is small and can fill up quickly on a weekend morning.

There are so many birds to see on the Johns Island portion of the trail. I enjoy seeing Wood Storks, Roseate Spoonbills, Anhingas, herons, and more. There are several trailheads along the Greenway to park. The marsh views are spectacular! And it's free of charge.

Unfortunately the Asian lady owner told him to get out. He came out, and told us he was told to get out. Soon after, she came out yelling at everyone "Get out of my doorway! I have a business to run, too!" So I went in, and the first thing she said was "What do you want?!" I told her that my nephew went inside to actually look at bikes. She said "no! You are blocking my shop!" It's too bad that she was so rude because we were actually thinking about renting bikes from her shop. She's an embarrassment to my Asian people. No wonder this country still looks at us as foreigners.

My husband's bike wheel needed a new tube that they did in a short time. I should mention that everyone in the establishment was wearing masks and maintaining social distancing. The pricing was quite reasonable . ~~ Store ~~ The store sells bicycles and accessories as well as has a repair shop. The area is very clean, uncluttered and the items are neatly arranged. I especially liked their collection of the bells and colorful helmets. They also had mostly high end bicycles on display. ~~ Location & Parking ~~ Near the Harry S Truman parkway, a decent sized store that opened around 2 years back. They have their own parking lot with plenty of parking spaces.
