This is for the Clearwater Kennewick location. We are long time sterling's customers and have usually been satisfied with our meals and service. Solid 4-star experiences. However, in the last month or two, every aspect seems to be going downhill. The salad bar has not been kept up, lettuce is wilted, items aren't stocked. The salad bar is my favorite but lately it has been sub par so I've ordered from the menu. I usually order the ATA. It's like eggs Benedict with asparagus, tomato and avocado. Normally delicious and highly recommended but the last 2 times the tomatoes have been a sparse sprinkling of diced tomatoes instead of a nice slice and the asparagus has been woody and no where near fresh. The English muffin was inexplicably soaked, saturated as if dipped in grease. Totally inedible. Our table had a dirty coffee mug and a dirty fork. Every dish was chipped. Menus were old, worn and dirty. Coffee was not refilled. Except when the manager walks by and realizes we have chronically empty coffee, then he was on it! He made an effort to make up for our dismal service. We had to ask twice for water. We had one waitress that seemed completely overwhelmed taking care of 2 tables. The other waitress near our section that we tried to flag down was much too busy flirting with a customer and trying to get a date for Saturday night. Surprisingly, the real star of the show for breakfast is the oatmeal. It is fantastic, fresh and delicious. It is served heaped in a soup cup. So you need to ask for a bowl in order to have room to add brown sugar, raisins or milk. The bathrooms have been hit and miss from fairly clean to filthy. We waited a loooooong time for our food and when it finally arrived, mine was not what I ordered. I got crab cakes instead of eggs Benedict ATA. The waitress seemed miffed at me for wanting what I actually ordered. No apology, no offer to take part of the price off...nothing. In summary, our go to place, well we hate to see it go downhill :0(. Hopefully it's just a slump and the one manager who is making an effort will be able to remedy some of the problems. Love to have breakfast here on the weekends. Always get the snow crab cake sterling dish which is like eggs Benedict with a crab cake instead of an English muffin. It is delicious! The eggs are always cooked so delicately and when they break open they coat the crab cake. The cheese (hollandaise like) sauce is delicious too and they always give you enough to smother the hash browns in. Plus you get coffee that's refilled the minute you finish it. Came here for the salad bar. Felt like a remodeled Denny's. Service was nice but a little slow. For $9.99 got one trip to the salad bar which has your typical salad bar items with six varieties of soup. One trip was plenty. I'd call Sterlings a slightly upscale diner. We were on the road late evening and this was our third try at a restaurant. The other two had closed early. Our waiter was great and the restaurant was clean. The interior was very unique in a good way and I enjoyed the vibe. I ordered the pork rib dinner and my wife had the shrimp plate. Both were good but we found the baked potatoes to be very impressive. The only real downer was the manager lectured two waiters about cleaning the tables properly at the booth behind us while we tried to eat. This conversation should have occurred after closing and not while two exhausted travelers were trying to enjoy their break out of the car. read more

I've been coming here for years and have yet to taste hollindaise sauce anywhere else like they make here. I like the cheesy flavor of it. I always get the California EB. I also like the grits, even though sometimes they make it too salty. This place has its little annoyances, but what place doesn't? The Ca EB are always a go-to for me. I must say though, I'll never go to West Richland sterlings. For some reason, food is not as good there as Kennewick or Richland. When judging a breakfast outing at a new restaurant my standard is chicken fried steak. Sterling's is a disappointment. Over easy eggs were over hard. Hash browns were burnt or old, hard to tell but they were crunchy. Chicken fried steak was nearly average (the cooking oil was old). I will not make a point of going back. We have always had a good meal here, and the coffee is very very good. The salad bar has decent choices, but my favorites are the breakfast selections. This is also the most choices I have ever seen on a menu, almost too many things to choose from. The wait staff is attentive, They also seem to have rotating specials. I went here with my mom for a quick dinner. We got fried chicken. The chicken was really good. It came with mashed potatoes and gravy, which were a little bland, but the potatoes tasted like they were real potatoes. The prices were reasonable, and the waitress was really nice. Now, before I start, I want to say I've eaten at Sterlings for 20+ years and have always had good service and good food. This review is not a slam but, rather, a suggestion. I ordered Potato Pancakes and was served hashbrowns blended into pancake batter. I told the server these were "not" potato pancakes and the cook should learn how to fix them if they're on the menu. I only ate about 1/4 and couldn't really finish it. ( bad). They charged me full fare anyway and when the cashier asked the obligatory "how was everything?" , I told him. He actually argued that pancake batter absolutely goes into that recipe,,,,,at least that's how THEY fix them. For what it's worth I'm including a recipe for "real" potato pancakes. Ate here on a busy Sunday and I must say, this place runs like a well oiled machine! I had the crab cakes with hollandaise sauce (added avacado), hubby had chicken friend steak. He is picky and thought it was very good. Mine was great. Service was prompt and friendly. Huge menu. I thought the decor was pretty nice, bathroom was really nice as well. So me and family have just recently started coming here and we absolutely love the atmosphere that is brings, very warm and welcoming. Staff is very friendly as soon as we walk in someone is right there to greet us and sit us as well. Service is always pleasant and quick on their feet to refill our waters or coffee. My family had dinner there this evening and it was awful The bacon cheeseburger bun was completely soggy as was the hamburger. The chicken noodle soup from the salad bar had an awful after taste. My 2 year old loves mac and cheese, took 1 bite, spit it out and would eat no more. It even smelled funny. The waitress was very unfriendly and acted like she'd rather be somewhere else and we were an inconvenience. Served our food with the check like she was already ready for us to leave. Asked for a drink refill and got attitude in return. This was the first time I've eaten at Kennewick location and will not be back. For spending almost $100 on dinner, I expected a lot more A. Well after reading some of the reviews, I hoped for a decent experience. When we walked in the door, we greeted the hotess and didn't even get a reply. All we got was "two?" The server came to our table and was very quiet and almost expected us to know what she wanted.. The menu was HUGE. Any menu that has numbered items in the hundreds is a bad sign. We ordered and the server had to open the menu to get the number of the item. We received our food which was very bland and not really worth the price and the check all in one instance. We ate, paid, and left and never got much more than "two?" Time to teach these employees to smile and be polite to their guests.. read more

I went to the restaurant in a field trip. My friend and I ordered food before everyone else and 30 minutes later our food still had not come. We asked the waiter and she said she forgot to place the order and apologized. It was good until we were leaving and manager asked us why we didn't leave a tip. I told him that our food was over half an hour late. He got upset and kept telling me we needed to leave a tip. We left without leaving a tip and will NEVER dine at that restaurant again. read more

The owners have money to open and rebuild their restaurants but then they tell the customers that they need help paying the cooks and we should tip the cooks and the waitstaff. We are staying nearby at the Kennewick Suites for two nights and foud this gem on Yelp. Not sure where any of these bad ratings came from. My boyfriend had steak and eggs and I had the French Toast combo. We were very pleased with the food. Very tasty, clean food without the grease. And the service was outstanding.
