Tried the Three Emmas (pearl beer and rose cordial, sherry, gin) and Ciudad del Sol (mezcal, xtabentun, vermouth, chartreuse), which were both excellent. The ambiance is great, and there are tables, couches and chairs, but it can get very crowded. We were hoping to sit upstairs, but it was reserved already. There is table service when you sit down, but I had initially placed my order at the bar. The drinks were elegant and out of the ordinary. Def recommend! read more

A very cool, almost steampunk-y bar adjacent/inside of the Hotel Emma. The entire Pearl Brewery area is cool, and this bar fits right in. Edison light bulbs, exposed metal, seating in former mash tons, and bartenders draped in leather smocks, the entire vibe of this bar is pretty cool. I met a local friend here for a Pearl Brewery crawl. We started with cocktails (so I can't comment on any of the food.) I ordered a summery, spirit forward drink. The bartender was able to tell the story behind the drink, which really enhanced the experience. My friend doesn't drink much, so she ordered an off-menu mocktail which they were able to concoct something interesting with shaved ice. Overall, a cool place with a unique vibe, definitely stop in, especially with the Hotel Emma being so close, a true part of the San Antonio downtown. read more

Very nice selection of spirits and beers, as well as small plates, and friendly staff. While the bar is beautiful and there are tones of comfy sofas about, if they are open, sit inside (yes!) one of the still existing brewing tanks. It adds to the overall experience and there is a button inside to push for table service. Be sure to look around, take it all in, and examine. You might be surprised at the architectural details they chose to leave intact and how they innovatively transformed a brew house into an intimate (yet actually very large space), upscale, swanky-feeling spot. This is by far my favorite bar in San Antonio. It's at Hotel Emma, and the interior is absolutely beautiful. I could stare at the ceilings and walls all night. It was definitely lively on a Saturday night, but not too loud. The bartenders are great at concocting actual cocktails - I had a Blood & Sand and it tasted perfect. Crowded on a Friday night with an eclectic mix of businessmen, hipsters, and girls who are trying to act like they're not really as drunk as they are. Very prohibition-era vibe with tanks outfitted with banquettes. These you can rent out for a grand a night, at least, that was the rumor that was going around. The bar is packed 3 rows deep with people clamoring for libations. My $13 coffee/rye concoction made me gag for want of more coffee and less rye. Stick with the classics and leave the mixology to the youngsters. We were able to find a seat at a small cocktail table off the entryway, but there was a good standing-room only crowd going on. There's a balcony overlooking the downstairs if you're able to get past the velvet rope. If renting out the venue is a possibility for your wallet, I'd highly recommend it. read more

It a cool bar to chill out at and enjoy a good cocktail. I really enjoyed the Three Emmas House cocktail. The sticky toffee pudding was a tasty dessert. It's not as good as the sticky toffee pudding at Hell's Kitchen in Las Vegas. Gordon's sticky toffee pudding is the best dessert I've ever had in my life. The one at Sternewirth was good not great. We finally made it to Sternewirth! Housed in the gorgeous Hotel Emma, this place was jumping on a Saturday night. We arrived around 9:30 to find only one small hightop table and stools available for seating. We were quickly approached by our friendly server and handed a beautiful, leather-bound drink menu. We started out our evening with Macallen 18, served neat, and an amazing drink called the Professor Macgonnagal. I kept saying that this drink should come in a giant, 22 oz glass because the highball glass it comes in is just a tease! After two of those amazing drinks, I shifted gears and went for Nikka 12 Japanese whisky. Fragrant, almost fruity and smooth, it's become one of my favorites. I wanted Yamazaki Single Malt, but they were out. I'll try it next time! The ambiance is hip and stylish. It's a slightly older, more sophisticated crowd that included wedding guests and a bachelorette party. There are these cool silo seating areas that can accommodate a fairly large party. I can't wait to return...we had a great time, and while the place was somewhat loud, the vibe was terrific and you can actually hold a conversation with someone over a nice glass of Scotch! read more

Went down at 7pm to request a table for 2. We were greeted by a man with an Air Jordan mask on, told the wait would be 15 minutes - 2 hours. We ended up waiting 2 hours (on the long side of things) Got called to the front, when we arrived the host openley stated that he forgot calling me... We ended up being seated on a shared couch and told we could sit on either side. The host had stated that the woman that was there previous, had taken the left side, so we sat on the right side. The woman ended up coming back and plopping down (in an authoritative manner) on the right side next to me. Management quickly came back, he had strictly told us to get up and move to the other side because that's where the other woman had decided she wanted to be. We immediately got up and left only to be chased by the host asking what the problem was LOL. ‍ They need a lesson in guest relations. Will not be visiting again. read more

Decided to give this place a second chance because the first experience wasn't so great. (TLDR of previous experience: Host sat my girlfriend and I, and then argued harshly with us a few minutes later that the table we sat in wasn't our table... even though he specifically WALKED us to it.) With my second experience here... again, super awesome atmosphere, but I feel like we were specifically sat in a terrible spot because the Host didn't like that we were checking in vs checked in (at the time it was hotel guests only). I got the impression he thought we were lying. I suppose I could be oversensitive or not self aware of my demeanor with my last experience, but then I see couples come in right after us and they are getting sat in way better spots that were available before we sat. Im literally writing this review while I sit in this broken chair. If you get sat where there are two chairs "alone" in the middle of the room, you definitely have the worst spot in the house in my opinion--especially for a Valentine's Day/couples seating. I can for sure say I will avoid this bar in the future which sucks because the potential and atmosphere is awesome. I just can't seem to get a positive experience with the hosts and seating. I'm trying hard to gauge if it's me. It's clear there is a demand for this. The Sternewirth is a totally cool looking space. It is located within the Hotel Emma which is also a cool looking lobby area. I really liked all of the little nooks to have a cocktail in. When we went we got to sit in one of the retrofitted brewery vessels. It was cozy in there and really a unique experience to be in there. I really like the look of this place. The furniture and the chandeliers. Really old school look. We had live music there when I visited. They have a good craft cocktail menu, and a full bar and beer menu. I would definitely say to check this place out if you are in the area and I would like to come back and have a cocktail here again if in town. read more

Absolutely love this place, the decor is an old world men's lounge and the sitting inside the vats are spacious as cozy. The drink menu is unique and tasty. The wait staff is friendly and knowledgeable about the drinks. If I could give 10 stars I would, it's worth the visit just to see it even if your not drinking. They open later in the day around 3 but you can still go in and sit in the area and just enjoy the beauty that is this here in the tavern room. Adjacent to Hotel Emma is this gem. It is the perfect example of turning a historic building, the Pearl Brewery, into something new and shiny, while retaining lots of old world charm. Sternewirth Bar deserves 5-stars for this alone. There is a variety of classic and modern cocktails, wine and local craft beer on their menu. Stop in for at least one drink and relax, while taking it all in. Imagine brewery workers here and what their lives were like in the late 1800s, during prohibition (brewery owner Emma kept the place going creating "near beer" among other ventures) and after prohibition and during the Great Depression. The wine selections is minimum but they do have a decent selection of bourbons and whisky. Their cocktails are pretty good especially the Sazerac and my favorite the old fashion among other cocktails which they make potent and that's alright cause that's what most of us are there for right?Like any Hotel bar the drinks can add up so keep that in mind. Waitresses are very attentive as long as your nice to them and tip them cause they seem to stay with the tippers and it's beats waiting in line on a busy night. On cold nights you can take your drink outside and sit besides the nice fireplace or check out the lobby it's original and unique. The crowd is a mix of wealthy, blue and white collars,young,middle and older crowd but for the most part not much drama just good cocktails and laughter.The restrooms are attentive and clean and are located outside the bar there's also a family restroom but don't take your date in there. This place is our all time favorite! This has been our "living room" since we moved to the Pearl district. The music at night on the weekdays and the afternoon music on the weekends is something we always try to attend. We have made many friends here! Sabine, Kristen, Carlos, Vince, Ashley, Eliana all do an amazing job while also connecting with us on a personal level. We feel absolutely welcomed to San Antonio because of the amazing staff at the Emma bar Sternewirth. I wish I could name all the bartenders, hosts, and managers by name as well, but they are top notch in the hospitality industry and overall good people industry. This is one of the coolest environments that I have enjoyed a beverage. The industrial design flare in the entire complex is breathtaking and then the interior of this place takes it up another notch. It didn't matter that they were initially short a server as I was entranced by the beauty of this place. I enjoyed a Tequila-based cocktail which was great while chilling on a very comfortable couch. So I added this spot to my collection months ago and I'm so glad I finally decided to go. Went on a Tuesday right after work and upon entering the door ppl were already clustered together on sizeable, comfy leather seats talking & laughing. The overall area is open & spacious, separated in sections so you feel intimate w friends yet at anytime you can reach out to those nearby to start up a convo, which is what I did.
