A little bit out of the way from everything. Was actually coming to check out the pier and happen to see this place so we gave it a try. We got the small, one person portion key lime pie. It seemed small for the $5.50 price that we paid. It was good but not the best i had. Would not be heading back to this place unless i'm in the area. This place knows what it does, and does it well. The guy behind the counter was friendly, the pie was delicious, and the location is great. There are a few picnic tables out front for customers, and Steve's is also located about 75 feet from a cute little park and a Pier with great views of the Statue of Liberty! read more

i love key lime pies and i love Steve's key lime pies. my brother's name is Steve, but he doesn't own Steve's key lime pies. it would be nice if he did. :) we went to Steve's after a trip to fairway. this was my first foray into this part of Brooklyn that will be quickly known as the part of the world where the single largest IKEA store will be located. i think Steve's will get inundate once IKEA goes in. and probably the prices will go up. we spent $25 for a large pie and it was well worth it. SUPER tasty. we didn't try anything else there but all you need to try is key lime pie when that is the name of the business. Steve's would get 5 stars if they incorporated key lime pies with chicken parm somehow. please work on that. read more

Can it get any better? First of all to complement the great tasting pie, you have a breathtaking view of the water and the Statue of Liberty. The key lime pie here is fantastic. Perfect for a summer day! Found this place while we were hanging out at Red Hook. The pie isn't colored green like most key lime pies are. It was about $6 for the single serve pie. It's beautifully made. Great amount of sweet and sour. The crust to custard ratio was perfect!! It's hard to find a good key lime pie here in the north. Not impressed at all. The filling is ultra sweet and was not thick at all. It was more like a yogurt or pudding; not nearly as stiff as the pictures indicate. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if the filling were actually yoplait brand key lime pie flavored yogurt. The graham cracker crust did not stay together. Was in red hook and decided to check out what the fuss was about on Steve's key lime pie. No no no Not worth it at all. I've ordered fresh key lime juice directly from key west Florida and made my own pies with fresh graham cracker crumbs and it blew away this $20 pie that costs me $4 to make at home from scratch. It's literally a can of sweetened condensed milk, egg yolks, a little key lime juice & graham cracker crumbs. How do they justify a $20 price for a tiny 8 inch pie. The 10 inch pie is $30. The pie is Nothing fancy and not aesthetically pleasing to the eye. It's not kept cold enough in their refrigerator The cashier was half awake and not friendly. I guess I'd be bored to in an empty store that only sells one item. Save your money. Not worth it at all. I've had key lime pie from Joes stone claw of Miami and the key west pie company in key west Florida so I have a lot to compare it to. read more

Absolutely the best key lime pie that I've had! In the parking lot we counted license plates from seven different states. If they are driving this far to get it you know its gotta be good! We made it here after venturing to the Red Hood Ball-field carts. We bought a 4 inch tart, some limonade and a 4 inch tart dipped in chocolate. The tart by itself is awesome. Just enough sour and sweetness to make me happy! I'm not a fan of the chocolate dipped tart. The chocolate was a bit overbearing. They offer bigger pies to go as well. We made a special trip there today and we had the frozen pies on a stick with raspberry and dipped in chocolate. I also purchased a pie to bring home. I got the Original, which is a small little keylime pie dipped in chocolate. It was just okay. The keylime was not very tangy and the gramcracker crust was super loose. The thing is it cost $7,50 and when I asked for a glass of tap water, he wanted another$.50. That seemed rich to me. Any way, the pies not great, even if you don't choke on it. read more

I went to Steve's expecting to have the best key lime pie ever. The reviews on Yelp couldn't be wrong could they? I would have to say that for one, the pies are extremely over priced, but then again, this place has bills and rent to pay and only specializes in key lime pie. I had to order the tart size versions due to the high prices. After eating my pie, I wasn't all that impressed. The lime filling was kind of pudding like and not very firm. I don't know if that is because I had the mini version or if that is just how it is here. Anyway, I have had better key lime pie for less money at many many other places. I wouldn't go out of my way to travel all the way to the far reaches of Red Hook just to get one of Steve's pies. Sorry if I sound like a hater, but I just don't see what all the hype is about. I'm not saying that Steve's is bad, and if you are in the area, and don't mind paying a hefty price for mediocre key lime pie, then go for it. Update: In response to a message by the owner ( over a year after I reviewed his business!!!), I would like to say that you come off as a complete douche. If anyone has "unrefined taste", it's definitely you. It seems that you can't take criticism and that you are disillusioned in thinking that you make the best key lime pie in the galaxy and beyond. Whupdedoo. You import your limes from Mexico. Does that equate to great pie? I would argue that it does not. I have eaten at restaurants and foodie destinations the world over and am old enough and experienced enough to know when something excites my palate. Your pie just didn't do it for me..and I have visited your Red Hook location on more than one occasion (so I am not basing my critique from one experience alone). Maybe you should step off your high horse and just accept the fact that you can't please everyone and that if you do decide to respond to a disappointed customer, that you should apologize for their unsatisfactory experience and offer them an incentive to come back. I for one found your response somewhat defensive, patronizing, and unapologetic. I won't be returning either. Interesting that it took you 13 months to address my initial review. Kinda shows that you are out of touch with your customers. Just remember who puts money in your pockets that allows you to pay your bills and make your little pies. Whether the customer was happy or unhappy...your ungrateful self was privileged enough to keep their money at the end of the day. I guess the Key Lime Pies are actually good since most of the people seem to like it but I wasn't convinced at all. I had the classic mini key lime pie and while the crust and the consistency was actually very good I didn't like the filling so much because I found it way too sweet to be good and I could barely taste the lime. I had much better key lime pies before and would not eat another one from this place. Same with the special lemonade (or limeanade or something like this). I couldn't drink it because it tasted only sweet and I wonder what they put in there because it wasn't refreshing at all, but I guess that nearly every drink is too sweet for me since I really hate the sugary taste of soft drinks in general. read more

We stumbled upon Steve's on one of our Fairway excursions and it was the find of the year. We had just gotten back from a trip to Key West and Steve's measured up perfectly to our experience in the keys. This is a great desert to bring to a dinner party or to add to your own. They have a individual size so you can indulge as you head back home. I just read about the chocolate dipped version and will definitely try that on the next trip. read more

I finally tried this place after seeing the sign so many times. I stopped on my way to Red Hook winery. I had one of his regular pies and my friend had the frozen one dipped in chocolate on a stick. I liked mine but my friend said that the chocolate was good but it was overbearing the keylime pie. I also had the keylimeade which I didn't enjoy that much because you had to sweeten it yourself. I like mine real sweet. They had a cute seating out there. You can enjoy the pretty view of the water. read more

Hahahah I just had the most random experience at Steve's. They have a pretty funny sign on the door stating a few "don'ts." Like- don't ask about real estate in the area and don't ask for apple pie. I thought it was an example of what a great sense of humor they have about the neighborhood or just what a good sense of humor they have in general. I mean, come on, they make key lime pies and the place looks like a cabana in Key West! Anyway, I cracked a joke regarding the apple pies and (I guess it was Steve) FLIPPED OUT! For the first few minutes I thought he was joking around with that "great sense of humor" but it turned out he was totally serious and a big weirdo. In any case- go for the pies but don't expect to get much more from the place. It always makes me sad when a fellow Brooklynite can't laugh at themselves. Life's too short to take it that seriously. Beware... the place smells like a chimney! Went there during the summer, 2 weeks ago and again yesterday. Everytime I've been there it smells like cigarettes and have to run out. If you have kids or if you hate the smell of old cigarettes, dont go there. What I pity as their pies are pretty good. read more

JERK ALERT! The owner was smoking right outside his store door as we went inside and I guess interrupting his smoke break was just too much for him. He was a jerk from the get-go. Not my favorite pies, but the location is interesting and fun for a visit.

We were in Red Hook yesterday and, passing by Steve's sign, doubled back to grab a pie for dessert after last night's dinner. The pie was in our chilly car from Brooklyn to the Bronx, then in the 37 degree fridge for about four hours. I took it out just as the coffee was brewing and pulled out my pie server to cut in. The filling was completely runny - not set at all. Everything else in the fridge was very cold - no problem with the thermostat - and the pie was also cold, but when I went to cut slices the filling just flowed freely out of the server and, ultimately, off of the crust. The key lime thin pudding infused with crumbs was damn yummy but it wasn't really what you'd call pie. I'm going to throw it in the freezer to see whether it will reach some more solidified state that I can serve as frozen key lime pie. Did we get a bad one or is this consistency what other people are happy with? read more

My husband loves key lime pie. I am not a fan. They tend to be either too sweet or too tart for my taste. But when we were in the neighborhood and a friend suggested that we check out this place, we decided to try it. Our friend bought a whole pie to bring to a party later that day and we got a swingle to split. It was $5.50 for something relatively small, but if you're not trying to eat a ton of key lime pie, it's a very good portion size. I actually think more desserts should be available in this size. I had the filling by itself and thought it was maybe a 3-star experience. Then I tried it with the graham cracker crust and it went up to 6 stars! Remember, I said I'm not a fan of key lime pie. However this combination of graham cracker crust and filling is just the right balance of sweet and tart. The guy who worked there was pretty patient despite the fact that we took forever to place our order and find change to pay. I would definitely recommend this place regardless of whether or not you think you like key lime pie. It is worth trying. You may find that you love it like I did! read more

Key lime pie! Dipped in chocolate! On a stick! These pies are delicious, but their hours are insanely erratic. And sometimes the people working there seem befuddled by your presence (you sell pies! and I want one!). It's worth it, though. Eat your pie (conveniently, on a stick) while strolling through the garden center next door and all along the waterfront. The number of exclamation points in this review should indicate how tasty they are. Swipe some napkins, though, because you've got chocolate all over your face. read more

We arrived here after a long lunch at Brooklyn Crab. The pies on a stick are amazing! And boy does Red Hook offer some stunning views of the city. Take a stroll on the adjacent park, with your pie, and then after the stroll have another. They are perfect in every way. Between 6 of us we must have had 10 key lime pies! Unbelievably rude and dismissive!! As a regular visitor in Red Hook, I've heard about Steve's Key Lime Pies for quite some time. on today's visit to the hood, I decided to stop by. the shop is at a dead end street right by the water, and as soon as I parked my car in front of the shop, I immediately noticed a stunning view of the statute of Liberty. naturally as I got out of my car, I walked towards this view. I wasn't farther than 15 feet from my car, and no longer than 10 seconds after parking my car, when I get told to move my car! I explain I'm taking in the view for a minute, yet the individual (most likely the owner/mgr) keeps talking about how "that's what everyone says yet they stay for 15 minutes..." and how he maybe needs to get a bigger sign that the parking is for 15 minutes only and for customers, and that I need to leave!! not once was I asked why I was there! this is a dead end and fairly desolate street with no other visible businesses in the area. why else would I be there? I've been visiting Red Hook for well over ten years, love the people and the small businesses in this neighborhood, and have NEVER been treated like I was some intruder. This business just lost a customer and sadly is a sore thumb in this otherwise warm and welcoming neighborhood. read more
