Visited for dinner on 10/15/19. I keep wondering what the other reviews are from. Did we dine at the same place. Overall the food was ok. The layout very nice and clean. So we went on a Tuesday night without reservations. We had to wait a bit which at the moment was fine as we get it, no reservation. But then after walking up the steps to be seated we realized that half the place was empty. This would remain this way throughout our dinner as we watch party after party wait and wait for a table. It took a good 10 minutes to be recognized once seated. We quickly ordered drinks and then waited another 15 minutes for those drinks. This theme of feeling like we were just forgotten would be reoccurring. We ordered our different rolls together and both also ordered salads. I will say that both of us had different salads and that they were GREAT. Once time for our rolls to show up they came out one at a time spaced out greatly in-between and ironically just her rolls. You know that moment when you start getting frustrated with your partner because its obvious your food isn't coming and they are sitting there being polite and just staring at theirs forever. Well thank you stevenson library you caused this. So much so that finally the exacerbated "just eat" had to come out of my mouth. Then she ever so painfully ate so lowly hoping with every stop of our server coming by and saying "your rolls aren't here?" meant that my food was finally going to be delivered. She finally finished her whole meal and about the time I was ready to just leave cash for the meal and go back and eat some cliff bars for dinner at the condo my food showed up. Easily the worst restaurant I went too during my 2 week stay in Hawaii. Visited Maui Kauai and Waikiki. Probably hit 25 restaurants and this one was by far the worst. Server never even showed up to my table. Sat there for 20 minutes until I just asked the bus boy to place a take out order for me. Seems like this Hyatt overall was just rude. This was a fantastic spot, I wasn't sure what to expect from a hotel sushi restaurant but it exceeded my expectations. We brought our newborn and 3.5 year old and the staff were outstanding with our kids. They had a dedicated kids menu as well. We ordered the Chef's Sashimi Plate, The Shipwreck Roll and one other, all were amazing! Can't wait to go back. Stevenson's Library was one of the most amazing experiences we have had in Kauai; from entrance to the hotel, greetings by the hosting staff, ambience, mixology, food and our most amazing waitress Kawailele- it was truly one of the most memorable and happiest date nights we have had- in the entire year and a half we have lived here. We truly appreciate the level of services and quality of experience at this location; its unmatched and one of a kind! We can't wait to go back and I now wish we would have made our next reservation following our dinner. The sushi chefs were also incredible, kind and its obvious they come from top notch training. First and foremost, they have the best mixologist on the island! We had all the drink options between the two of us and there wasn't one drink that was not absolutely delicious and made to perfection; we walked a way quite cheery to say the least! For food we had hamachi carpaccio (delicious), lobster dynomite (the most incredible item we had that night so we went for a 2nd; and btw I am not a fan of lobster in fact its the only fish I do not typically ear but wow!! GET IT), nigiri (maguro we doubled down, sake, hamachi, kanpachi, ebi, saba, madia, toro also doubled down) and toro sashimi which we also doubled down on because it was incredible (they had the most fatty option which we went with- as we as a lower fatty option). All in all this was truly a five star experience and I highly highly recommend this place if you are looking for a combination of yummy drinks, food and a beautiful place to dine! Wen here for dinner with my wife and I have to say we were pretty disappointed. First let me say the view from the terrace was beautiful. Overlooking the resort and the water. The staff was very friendly and service was good. My wife ordered a shrimp tempura roll, I had a rainbow roll and two pieces of toro nigiri. The toro nigiri was delicious. The quality of the fish was very good. The rolls were not impressive. The sushi rice was dry and the crab was very fishy tasting. We are sushi fanatics so we eat sushi a lot wherever we go. Compared to most places that are half the cost, the quality was not nearly as good. With our food and two drinks, our bill came to $95! Now I know it's a tourist town at a nice resort so the price would not be an issue if it tasted good but unfortunately that was not the case here. Stevenson's Library is a place in the Hyatt that checks quite a few boxes. It is an upscale bar/restaurant with killer views of the ocean, overlooking the pool area of the resort. The menu is mostly sushi, but it does not look or feel like your typical sushi restaurant - I'd say it looks more like a steak place, but it fits in with the rest of the resort. Not touristy, but I doubt the designers had a sushi place in mind when they set it up. We visited Stevenson's on our first night in Kauai - we did not have reservations, and we did not feel like driving anywhere. We were able to get a table pretty quickly. They have a great assortment of rolls, sashimi, and some sushi alternatives for the non-sushi guests. The fish was delicious as it should be right on the ocean, and Stevenson's does not disappoint. We were there later than usual for dinner, and the dinner crowd thinned out, but there was a lot of traffic at the large bar. There was a big meeting at the resort, and I suspect that Stevenson's was the post-event destination for the crowd. It checks that box, too, as it has a lot of space to spread out, and the bar is really well stocked with a diverse menu. read more

Service was very attentive but not overbearing or fake, food was excellent - I recommend the Stevenson Roll for sure! The best part of all? Our bartender/server Faye - she was extremely knowledgeable of the drink and food menu - was always aware of the next step in service, managed her support staff well, and was very professional and personable. We were on our honeymoon and staying at the grand Hayatt so we decided to give Stevenson's a try. Great atmosphere but failure to execute great food. We ordered their stuffed lobster tail special, a few rolls and some toro. The food was fair and was lacking flavor. The toro was very good but super expensive 28 dollars for 2pcs. The lobster tail special was watery once you got into the shell and super fishy which turned us off. Overall not bad but for the prices here we would not visit this place again. read more

We went from the side door by the hotel lobby without knowing the hostess station is by the other door, the hostess walked by and asking us to give her a second and she could check us in; however she did not direct us to her station but having us waiting by the side door without saying anything. We waited and waited until another staff asked if she could help us and directed us to the long line by the hostess station, when it was our turn, I said to the hostess that she had us waiting by the side door without directing us to the right station. She did not apologize or said anything but checked us in. That was so rude and completely unacceptable, not to mention the restaurant is a premium restaurant and we are the hotel guest of Hyatt as well. Exceptional deluxe-size special sushi rolls! This became my favorite restaurant in all of Kauai. Our 1st dinner there was incredible-we had the best server who was courteous and cordial from beginning to end. After dinner she offered to take photos of us on the beautiful lanai :) Our rolls were unbelievably fresh and oh-so-flavorful. Phenomenal atmosphere. OK food. Tasty but weak drinks. Almost zero for vegetarians. Like so many Hawaii resorts, we were surprised how little there was for vegetarians to eat, not only here, but throughout the Hyatt. However, at a sushi/Japanese themed restaurant you do expect to find a few more vegetarian dishes. Don't get your hopes up. There's one roll for you here. That's it - and it's $18. Seriously why isn't there at least a vegetable tempura plate? They even have a sushi pizza that we had to order with the fish on the side so my boyfriend could eat the "pizza" and I ate the fish. We enjoyed the superb view, the gorgeous bar and the tasty drinks, even if you couldn't tell there was actually alcohol in them. However, how can you enjoy yourself when you're punished for being vegetarian? For a world-class resort that caters to west coasters, you'd think they'd have at least 2-3 more vegetarian dishes on the menu, even a salad for goodness sake. read more

We were staying at the hotel and had dinner there our first night. Service was fine, not overly friendly, but the food was delicious. We went back a few nights later and wow what a difference. We went a little after 7 to sit at the bar. The bar was full so we grabbed a couple of drinks with a male bartender named Faye and waited for seats to open up. A bunch of seats opened up about 15 minutes later and we grabbed two. We sat and waited for Faye to wipe down our space and offer menus, but he kept walking by us without even acknowledging us. He went to customers to my left and wiped down and put menus to the open space to my husband's right, but NEVER spoke to us to ask if we wanted another drink, food or even menus. I waited a few more minutes then told my husband I was pissed that we were being ignored and that I wanted to leave. My husband paid the bill and unfortunately, left a $5 tip to a bartender who didn't deserve a dime of our money. A couple of cute younger ladies came in as we were leaving and I told them the service was awful, but I was pretty sure they would get better service. One of them thanked me and said it was good info to know. I should have immediately gone to ask for a manager to complain about the service we didn't receive, but didn't want to waste my breath and further ruin our night. Best Sushi we've had on Kauai in awhile. Everything is made to order; fresh and tasty. Chef Jay's rice had just the right amount of flavoring, compared to bland rice we've had at other places we've previously patronized. Sat at the counter and got to watch him and his staff prepare it all. Great portions for the price and even had to doggy bag some. My fiance had the Mochi ice cream which consisted of four different flavors, while my son had the Chocolate Cake Tiramisu. A beautiful location, but on average bar with ok service. My colleagues and I stayed at the Grand Hyatt for a week-long conference (along with about 300 other conference attendees). So I understand that maybe the bar was not quite ready to serve our large group of about 15 that walked in on a Saturday evening. Most of the tables were reserved, no table could accommodate our large group anyway. So we decided to just take up a few seats at the bar on one corner with most of us standing. Service was a bit slow, I noticed that each person who ordered had to stand there not breaking eye contact with the bartenders for long periods of time while being ignored before getting to order one drink. It was difficult to order more than one drink at a time as the bartenders would run off the make the drink before you can let them know you had more to order. It got so bad that my husband actually left to grab a drink from Seaview Terrace in the same lobby and came back holding his drink while I was still waiting to order mine. The drinks themselves were also ok. The specialty cocktails were not memorable, so after the first round I stuck with the stand by dirty martini. On top of that the prices were fairly steep, but expected as this is a hotel bar. My advice if you are staying at the Grand Hyatt there are plenty of other options to grab a drink. read more

Sorry to say, but I was not impressed with this place. The initial hostess that seated us was very nice and polite. The good marks stop here. We were seated at the sushi bar because I like to order and get my sushi fast. The fish was pretty fresh but the sushi rice was terrible. Not even a hint of vinegar at all. Also, the rice was crunchy. The waitress serving us rare even came by to see how were doing. We initially ordered beers and when my sushi came I wanted to order sake. I had to ask the lady who was bussing our table to get my sake order. Very disappointing for a restaurant in the Hyatt at Poipu. Before we came to Kauai, Matt B. and I were happy to see that our hotel housed a bar with a library theme and $14 cocktails. We thought, cool, that sounds like the sort of dim atmospheric bar we would find and love in the Eastside of L.A. Not even close - Stevenson's library was mega bad. The decor was very bland, with a couple bookshelves here and there to nod at a library theme. Otherwise there was a large bar and some tables, and a separate lounge area with a pool table and a live band. It was roomy, and service was pleasant and quick. If the place were just a flavorless hotel bar, we might have gone back a couple times during our stay. Unfortunately I am done with the positive part of my review. My first big gripe is the drink menu. I have never seen such a horrendous collection of $14 cocktails. Maybe island drinks are just not my thing, but you'd think that a couple cocktails would skip the grocery store aisle flavored vodkas and fruity rums on accident. Still, I thought, if this is what the place is good at, I'll give one of these a shot. There were a few $10 options, and I went for one of these, the 10th Anniversary Koloa Sugar Mill with X-Rated Fusion, Koloa dark rum, orange juice, guava, passion fruit, and a li hing mui and sugar rim. After all, I like fruit and I've had decent island drinks before. This? Was vile. It was sweet in a cloying cough syrup way and I just could not bring myself to finish even half. Matt had a Big Wave IPA, which was the correct choice. If I had to go back, I'd consider Stevenson's Library a beer only bar. I would also take eat plugs, because the live band was horrifying. It was loud and enthusiastic with a limited skill set. As we came in, the players were setting up, and just as we ordered they jumped into Escape (IF YOU LIKE PIÑA COLADAS). We were way too sober for Jimmy Buffett. They followed this up with Don't Stop Believin' and Hotel California, and at one point I heard the guitarist strum the first lines from Sweet Child of Mine, but I guess they weren't capable of playing the whole song? Not that I minded. They were so cheesy and so, so bad. I actually hated this place. I've overlooked bad drinks and bad bands before, but somehow Stevenson's Library was even worse than the sum of its shitty parts. It was laughably, offensively bad, in a way that went against everything I like about bars. My worst enemies would love this bar just because I hated it so much. A generous two stars for the nice waitress and the pretty view, but the world would be a better place without Stevenson's Library. read more

Stevenson's Library is located inside the lobby area of the Hyatt Regency Kauai. I passed by it many years before finally entering its doors upon recommendations from several friends. Although you will pay resort prices, you will also enjoy a pleasant resort atmosphere with balcony seating overlooking the sunset or inside the library at the koa bar, tables or sofas. There are also two pool tables for after dining recreation. Loved the hamachi carpaccio which was fantastically fresh and tasty. The sushi rolls (rainbow roll and dragon roll) were also very delicious and beautifully prepared. I also liked the fresh grated wasabi. A nice place to relax and unwind after a busy week. read more

When my wife and I checked in to the Hyatt, we were told about all the restaurants and which ones required reservations. After stopping by our room, we headed to the grand club to make reservations for Stevenson's Library (I swear my wife was drawn to it because of here English degree). We made an 8PM reservation for the following night. When we arrived at the restaurant at 8PM, we were told it would be 20 minutes until our table was ready which was a little strange but we decided to go up to the bar. We got two seats at the bar right away but it took us a few minutes to actually get the bartenders attention. In fairness, it seems this is a really popular nighttime spot on the resort. We enjoyed our drinks at he bar and within the 20 minutes, our table was ready. We had a nice seat out on the balcony and the waitress was very attentive. My wife and I both ordered two Maki rolls which were all delicious. The rolls are actually pretty big (8 sizable pieces) so if you are someone that normally orders 3 rolls, you may only need 2. The black rock roll was my favorite but they were all very good. The only thing to note is the price is likely much higher than you are used to seeing for Maki rolls (ranging $15-$25 each). If you are staying at the Hyatt and want some good, fresh sushi then I would definitely give this place a try. read more

This is a neat little place to have drinks, listen to live music, get a game of pool in and munch on some sushi. I really enjoyed the live music. It was a local group playing cover songs (and not the cheesy kind). Drinks will set you back $14 -- you are at a resort after all, you will pay resort prices for drinks! I had the Poipu Passion, don't waste your money. Get the hot Kauai coffee drinks with rum/Kahlua in it. Those were delicious! Keep in mind there's a dress code. I'm not sure what they mean by that since I saw two patrons in t-shirts/shorts/sandals. I guess they don't want you to come in swim wear?? Good place to hang out! read more
