Steve's BBQ is the best when it comes to ensuring you get three things- Blues, Booze, and BBQ. I am a fan of the establishment as a music venue, as they tend to have some interesting groups come through here, and the people really get down to have a good time. As a bar, it's as divey as it gets, and the best part of it all is that the place is in primo space in Uptown Whittier (a stone's throw from other bars) and it stays open until the real 'last call' of 2am. The drinks are often stiff and while there is not much frill in terms of cocktails, the thrill is still the enough to make it a good night. Happy Hour specials are very nice here, if you a beer and margarita person. As a BBQ venue, I love the beef ribs, I mean I've tried the other kinds, put hands down, beef ribs are where it's at. SO juicy and tender all the way to the bone, the meat disintegrates into your mouth and the sauce is very very good. The wedges (with mustard/Ketchup combo for dipping) are awesome. I've been coming to Steve's off and on for the last 10 years. They closed down for a bit to renovate the inside and it looks amazing! I love the new seating and larger bar. I've been waiting for 2 weeks to write this review to see if my mind will change sad to say it has not we requested a party of six table four adults two children we were told it was only going to be at 25 minute weight as there was one table that was open I assumed they were waiting for the other one to open up after about 50 minutes we are asked about how much longer it would be we were told 10 minutes at this point there was three tables scattered about that were still open unavailable we asked if we could sit separately we were told no about 30 minutes later three gentlemen that where friends with a manager got seated didn't even wait didn't even have to get on the list at this point two different parties had been set down without even having to wait sadly at this point is when I lost my cool I apologize for this I asked why we couldn't get seated and at this point we were never going to get a table every table was giving away as soon as somebody walked up I asked the manager why is it that we can't sit separate one of them said it was okay a different one said it was because of the kids don't really know why we weren't served for why we couldn't get served will never be going back sucks cuz the food actually looks good read more

Stopped in this past week, since I noticed the remodel. Looks great and it is more intimate. Their BBQ is good and the burgers are tasty. Tacos are not that great...But a good snack here is the nachos-they are HUGE! Drinks are good, service is completely dependent on the waitress' s mood, lol.. Prices are fair, weekends have a mix of people but always a good crowd. It does get pretty loud with the live music and abundance of people. . It took me a while to become accustomed to the new, revamped Steve's but it's grown on me. I love the way they have black board walls behind the bar that show you what beers are available that day. It's a small detail that I definitely notice and appreciate. Full bar and beer in bottle. This place always has a good band. Came in with a group of 7 friends and all the tables were 2 tops. No staff was around so we thought it best to join two tables together rather than crowd the walkway. A server came by a couple minutes later and said: "Thanks for moving my furniture." Then he asked another server to take care of us. We got no menus and when asked what their beer selection was the waitress said "Uhh everything?"Vodka cranberry was all cranberry. The food however was MIND-BLOWING. This place is so hyped up for nothing! My friends and I went for dinner, we did not have a reservation. It was 6 of us and we were there 30 minutes before their happy hour was over. We ordered our first round of drinks, but the waiter forgot my beer. Next we ordered one meal, we got their party planner meal ($59). Granted it was a busy night, but it took over an hour for us to get our food. Finally our meal arrived, we ordered 6 sides, but they got one wrong, we ordered corn on the cob but got fries instead. We told the waiter and he took them away. I have never been to a restaurant, where the waiter gets the order wrong and they actually take it away. It took about another 20 minutes for our waiter to bring out the corn on the cob. Despite all the hype and positive yelp review, I will never dine here again. read more

So a while ago, this place provided bad service, and I decided to not tip them for their poor service. Later I noticed on my bank account they tipped themselves about $20. Good ribs! Weird ambiance. I got the baby back ribs and my boyfriend got the beef ribs. Both were very tasty and fall off the bone tender. Thumbs up! I like my ribs very saucy but these had just enough sauce to cover the ribs so ask for a side of sauce if you like your ribs extra saucy like I do. The sides were ok. Potato wedges were huge and a little on the burnt side. The bbq beans were average. The place itself needs a little updating. Looks like Restaurant Impossible needs to come here and redo the layout and decor. They have mismatched booths and a row of tables side-by-side. Very weird. For a BBQ place/bar it was super quiet and I felt like I had to whisper to have a conversation. The waitress was nice but seemed very soft spoken. Very rude service here for a family party. The waiter (older one)was very rude took my appetizer and took it to another table. The appetizers were horrible no taste at all. Still waiting for my food. Ten minutes later still waiting. Finally got my chicken 20 minutes. Total 30 minutes waiting. Tasteless chicken but the bread was ok. Frys were salty. The beef was mostly fat the chicken tenders were too over cooked. Over all the service was poor the food bad nobody finished their food. I don't recommend anybody eating here. The Coke was ok. Went there before they remodeled and I have to let people know that Steves BBQ has changed for the better. New everything! The bar and wrap around seating was a great move for the once not so spacious location. New menu items along with some original favorite appetizers. Lunch buffet for $7 is not bad at all! Arsela, the usual server at this time, is the sweetest person in the world, she makes you feel like you're in her home. Ask for the tortillas (by request only) they're home-made and DELICIOUS! One of the only reasons I continue to go. Meat falls off the bones, fixings are plentiful and American. The menu is limited and definitely bar food so don't go if you want a "fine dining experience". Juke box is available, seating varies from bar stools to tables to booths, very intimate with clean bathrooms and a back patio for smokers. Great to hang out, not a place for a date. Worst place EVER! My husband and I walked in looked pretty cool had a band and nice atmosphere. Mind you it's our first time visiting this bar and we were pretty Excited to try it out. When we first walked in there it says wait to be seated, so we waited and nobody greeted us or directed us. I see two waitress pass by and input orders and I ask them do we wait to be seated or can we seat ourselves she looks at me and says you can seat yourself. We see an open table and sit down. As we sit ourselves we thought cool the two tables next to us are both being served so we're going to get service come to have it nighter one of those waitress made eye contact or asked us if we wanted to order anything. We asked one of them if we could have a menu and she never came back, so we literally walked out. I have never in my life had service so horrible in my life it wasn't even that busy. Wait staff was very attentive, friendly, and professional. They took our orders accurately and kept up with the changes as more people showed up. I ordered a full-on meal and our waiter profusely apologized for the long Wait, but it wasn't bad. They comped me an extra side which I appreciated. The onslaught of Food that was thrown down out pie holes: Meat topped nachos: not bad, but the chips tasted like those hippie mixed nut, low fat types. Fried cheese: frozen fast food, nothing objectionable Wing: spot on! Not dried out and had good flavor, but I was balking at the $11. Spare Rib Meal (whole rack): Everyone was crazy surprised at the butt-load of food! They cooked the whole rack, untrimmed right from the packing so you get all the small bones, the flap meat, everything. The pain is it Makes for messy eating. Included was garlic toast, (2) LARGE sides. This was food for 3-4 people or 2 very motivated eaters. What a deal for $31! The live music and Friday night crown made the trip enjoyable. Steve's BBQ is a great place, especially now that they have remodeled. It definitely has a local hang out feeling with great beer choices, cocktails and snacks to enjoy. The BBQ is delicious and the most affordable BBQ in the area. Large quantities and very good! Come in considering you will be full and the BBQ will be very tasting; not Michelin Star. When you have a craving for good BBQ Steve's satisfies that with the loaded baked potato, potato salad, mac n cheese, cole slaw and coconut shrimp (these our personal favorites) This place really deserves better rating. Other people come here thinking Lucille's or Steak House worthy (and if you like Dickie's BBQ, ya'll just have awful taste and need to leave). We normally order food for take out, its a bit loud for us. But the few times we've eaten in: the music, performers, wait staff and food were all on point. Oh yeah! Went to Steve's for the first time last night. My wife and I each had a BBQ pork sandwich. She got the fries as a side and I got the cole slaw. Everything was excellent! The BBQ was a perfect Memphis style; the sauce being mildly sweet with smokey undertones. It was served on panini bread and was a good sized sandwich given the price. The cole slaw and fries were perfect. I think maybe the size of the sides could be just a tad bit more generous, but it's acceptable. I was intrigued by the fact they also have Mexican food available as well as the traditional BBQ entrees. The next time I'm craving a burrito I'll give them a try. The decor reminds me of being in someone's basement bar - with the wood paneling and TVs on the wall. A good place to come and watch a game and have a few beers.
