I happen to own a unique Subaru Legacy. I love independent repair shops where the owner is there every day at the front desk or in the shop. Josh usually answers the phone and knows Subarus well. When I go to any of the factory authorized dealers the service managers don't know Subarus, don't own Subarus, don't touch a Subaru with a wrench themselves. When you go to a specialty shop that is all they do from the front desk backward, talk and think Subaru. Factory authorized dealers hide their service departments. Specialty shops don't and you're always able to have something pointed out in the shop while the car is on a lift. Dealership service managers take a percentage of the repairs they can scare you into for too high a price. Roopair repairs for way less using factory authorized parts or better if you like. Josh has a hard job, harder than a factory authorized dealer. After 17 years he knows he must be honest with customers and helpful to build a long-term relationship. I admire Josh he is direct and honest in a most polite fashion. His sense of humor and honesty is actually delightful and colorful. His customers appreciate his consistency and management. I appreciate the quality of workmanship and dedication. I don't mind driving an hour for specialty service. A MILLION OUT OF TEN, DO RECOMMEND!…read more We've been having some car issues for a few months, and unfortunately, we've been screwed over at other local shops that have a) lied to us about actual issues to try and get us to pay more, b) have had insane prices. Normally I take to Yelp for everything (duh), but I decided to post in a local Facebook mom's group about our recent issues in search of a mechanic that is tried, true, and reliable. River City Repair was suggested by another local mom, and from there it was less than a WEEK that we had our car up and running with no shady business done. Mark, the owner, actually owns two tow trucks and was able to come tow my vehicle for an incredibly affordable price to the shop. Not only that, but they called me their next business day before 9am with a diagnosis and price. From approving the fixes to the car being ready (and there was a laundry list) it took 48 hours.... 48 HOURS! They worked incredibly fast for the work that needed to be done. And for 8 total things that needed to be fixed (a couple that were major and made it so we couldn't drive the car), we were out the door for parts and labor for less than $2,500. My husband was dumbfounded at their honesty and affordability after a year of dealing with car issues/shady businesses between the two of us. We were ready to throw in the towel and scrap the car and just buy something new even though we reallllly didn't want to, so I am SO glad I posted on that page and was introduced to River City Repair. I met Mark's wife, Tana, over Facebook and she was the one who put all of the gears into motion to get us scheduled to even offering a one-time free diagnostic to help out a local fellow mom. Mark personally drove the truck to pick our car up and he was such a kind, personable guy - even down to showing our two year old truck-obsessed son a few things on the tow truck (and totally making his day). Mark made a comment about his clients becoming like family, and I can TOTALLY see why. They're such great, honest people and this is the epitome of a small local business being a pillar in their community. Hands down we have found our go-to shop. You know…read moreyou're in trouble when you pick your vehicle up and the guy at the counter asks you after he collects your money "you know your check engine light is on right?" "Not when I brought it in" I said and was told that that's not their problem. They had done a diagnostic when I dropped the truck off and there's no mention of a check engine light. I brought it back in and they found that my glow plugs went out. "That happens all the time and we won't fix it for you unless you pay us" is what their mechanic Josh actually told me. Well it happened in their shop but I suspect it does happen quite a bit in there. So to sum it up be prepared to get your vehicle back in worse shape than when you brought it in and that you'll have to foot the bill for it.

But this time, the owner Steve was rude, unprofessional, and misleading, and our car left with a new issue that they caused and refused to fix and is now having the same problem that we took it in for less than 6 months later. Our car was having issues starting and lights on the dashboard were out like the speedometer and gas gauge. When we brought it in, Steve kept getting our car confused with other cars and originally quoted us the wrong work. Then he called back and said they had the wrong car, quoted us for new alternator and battery. We asked about the dashboard lights to get the full quote and he impatiently said they couldn't even look at that yet. He refused to talk about it, said he needed to do the other work, which didn't seem true but we decided to go ahead with the other work since it was already there. He called after the initial repairs and said they noticed the dashboard lights were out, like that was something new. And that their electrical guy was out of town for 2 weeks. I asked why they never told us that upfront, we could have waited to bring it in, and he claimed we'd never mentioned the issue! I mentioned it in detail when I scheduled the appointment and me and my partner had brought it up several times since, every time we talked to him, including a few hours ago that same day. It was confusing and sort of scary. I couldn't tell if he truly forgot, which seemed impossible, or was being intentionally manipulative. He suggested we drive the car home and bring it back in a couple weeks for the other repair. When I said it was dangerous and illegal to drive without the speedometer or gas gauge readable, he said it was "only a mile" so it was fine. He essentially advised us to break the law and risk our safety. We said to just keep it there until they could do the repair. They had our car for almost A MONTH waiting for the electrical guy then having it seen at an electrical shop because they couldn't figure out how to fix it. When the repairs were finally done, he called and said, "It's fine if the new odometer reading is 30,000 miles higher than the old one, right?" What?? Apparently replacing that part with a used one changed the reading and there's a way to fix it but he refused and said we'd need to do that elsewhere. We were given no warning that it would happen prior to the repair and we complained but he wouldn't make it right. Any time I tried to communicate my concerns about what was going on, Steve was downright mean and condescending. They gave our car a new issue and refused to fix it. It has an incorrect odometer reading that will cost extra money and time to fix. We were able to successfully dispute the charge for the dashboard repairs as it was clear the shop was in the wrong, but that doesn't fix the problem. And to top it off, less than six months later, the car is having starting problems again and one of the dash lights is out, so whatever they did didn't fix the underlying issue. Horrible repair shop, horrible experience. The whole thing was so stressful and upsetting and a waste of A LOT of money. I don't know what happened since a few years ago, but do not go here.

The last car I bought had rims that I didn't like so I decided to swap them out with the rims on the other car that I was selling. I took it to Les Schwab to do that and they told me there was an issue with something in the wheel. I took it to European Motors and they looked at it and tightened whatever it was that needed to be tightened....right then, no waiting, and no charge. The same vehicle developed a turn signal issue (sigh...Jaguars) pretty soon after buying it. I took it in, left it overnight. They fixed it, no charge at all, not even for the part they replaced. You might say "see two issues right away" but it's a used car, used cars are going to have issues and Jaguars, especially older ones tend to get electrical things happening. I bought it 'as is' as we do with used cars so they had zero --obligation-- to even *look* at the wheels or the turn signal, much less to fix them free of charge. But...they did. The "old" Jag (the one I had before the above mentioned one) had an issue with the antenna. It wouldn't go up. I called and talked to them to find out how much to replace it. He asked me a few questions and then told me it might be the motor so instead of buying and getting a new antenna installed I should have them look at it first. It was the motor. It only needed a slight adjustment/replacement of something (I can't remember the details now...it's been a long time) and it took them like an hour total, diagnosis and repair both. They charged me like $50.00 if I recall correctly... including the part. Will definitely be visiting them the next time I need service or am in the market for a new Jaguar!
