It's been 48 years, and I can still smell the fresh marinara. The China hadn't been used in weeks. The ironed white linen felt almost starched. Tonight was a revisiting to memories of earlier times with family and friends. The first taste of Steve's veal meatball instantly transported me back to the lakeside home of the Del Nino family. I never expected the Spaghetti & Meatballs entree to be so simply delicious and authentic. The thick and creamy bolognese vodka sauce with the Pappardelle went so well with the pasta, it felt like a lasagna in my mouth. The crab cake appetizer beat out Roy's Hawaiian Fusion for the top spot. It had more crab in it than any other version my wife had ever tried. And the chocolate chip cannoli was freshly piped, flanked by 4 almond biscotti with an essence of anise. This restaurant is truly a hidden gem, and may awaken distant memories of better times. read more

Service: Good. The server was nice and gave good recommendations. The tight space was hard to get attention from our server sometimes. Food: Fried Mozzarella - Fine. Small balls has more breading to cheese ratio. The sauce comes in pan on the side to be able to share. I wish for more cheese. Fried Calamari- under salted. The squid was tender and crispy but under seasoned. Linguine in White Clam Sauce- All chopped up! When getting this dish, I would usually get clams within shells on the plate. All the clams were chopped up. Fra Diavolo-messy! The seafood dish was filled with shelled items. I was not given a shell dish to discard them so it was very difficult to eat. This is one of the BEST ITALIAN RESTAURANTS, that we have ever eaten at! The meatball appetizer is amazing, soft, huge and so tasty! We had shrimp linguini for dinner, also delicious! MY wife and have gone many times over the years and we have never been disappointed. The Artichoke Hearts appetizer is a good choice to start. The restaurant is located in a small strip center. Fine, mature, white table-clothed family-style Italian restaurant with a well-dressed wait staff, full bar, and mandatory valet parking where you go with family to have a nice dinner and share every dish. Many families were there to have dinner, so it was quite noisy, but we sat in the back by the bar where it was quiet. The Italian waiter had such a thick accent that we could not understand the specials. The size options for each dish are single or family, which serve 2 and 4 people, respectively. The waiter often apportioned and served the food to us, so the service was impeccable. Overcooked plain crispy crunchy airy Italian bread came on the table. The spedino alla romano was a baked cheesy bread topped with mozzarella cheese and bathed in a sauce with capers. It was sinful, flavorful, and unlike anything I've ever eaten. The chopped salad was practically minced, so I couldn't taste anything individually other than the provolone, but there was also salami and olives in there. It was good and incredibly healthy. The chicken sorrentino was baked chicken topped with prosciutto and mozzarella and bathed in sauce. The description reminded me of chicken a la court st, but the prosciutto was different and the mozzarella was gooey instead of firm and fresh. I like the Hoboken-style dish better, but this was also great. The veal Marsala was good, not great. The tiramisu was lame because it basically turned to liquid in your mouth before you could taste anything. Fantastic quality restaurant with food generally ranging from good to great. read more

My fiance and I came here on a whim because we were craving Italian food and WOW. This was one of the best meals we've had in a while. And the price was right! The chicken francese was cooked perfectly and the sauce was to die for. The penne alla vodka was delicious and super cheesy (different but still so good). They also give you a basket of bread with good olive oil and butter complimentary. The entire bill was $90 for these two giant family size dishes. We had for leftover for days. The service was great, quick. Food came out hot. Server was very nice and the atmosphere was elegant yet homey. Will definitely be coming back here. Once we found the place, which even with GPS didn't help much, we were pleasantly surprised that in this industrial park area, there could be an eatery with white tablecloths, crystal and wait staff in tuxedo attire. But, it is true, and we were so glad we circled back around and located this little gem. Our waiter, Antonio, was very patient with all of our questions and having him repeat the long list of specials. We chose the orecchiette (little ears in Italian), a freshly-made pasta that was melt-in-your-mouth delicious, served with sausage and broccoli rabe, with roasted garlic and cannellini beans. The single was a generous portion and we also had a largish bowl of parmigiana reggiano sro we could replenish our entrees. We also ordered a tri-color salad with fresh arugula, crunchy endive and radicchio, dressed with wonderful balsamic reduction and olive oil. We didn't leave a leaf. We (they) were on a roll, so when Rocco, freely picking up when our server Antonio was occupied, as did Arturo, the other waiter, recited the dessert menu, we were only momentarily disappointed that gelato wasn't on the list, and opted for Cassata cake. So glad we did. The light white cake with marsala, heavy cream filling with marsala and mini mint chocolate chips was to die for. I vowed only to eat a third if we shared. I lied. I was actually accused, by hubby of course, of taking more than my share of the cream filling. Maybe it was the marsala that made him so possessive. If there was a negative star review possible, it would be a minus 3 stars. We dined at the Hauppauge location and could not be MORE disappointed. The baked clams were mushy, the shrimp was hard as pucks, overcooked and could not be pierced with my fork. The salad was wilty and warm. The pasta was not cooked. I usually eat al dente, this was as if it was cooked for 2 minutes, actually crunchy. The main course (chicken franchese was okay. Not great but not bad.) weird that it was served with just the chicken. usually it is served with rice or pasta but the pasta was separate. The service was AWFUL. You had to ask for everything from water to drinks. When placing the order, when spoken to, could not understand the waiter and when asked politely to repeat the rolled eyes and huffs were not appreciated. The dessert was mush, inedible. The service was so slow and inattentive. When going to the restroom it was dirty and walking through the bar smelled like urine. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS RESTAURANT TO ANYONE and if ANYONE WANTS TO GO HERE, SAVE YOUR MONEY and GO SOMEWHERE ELSE. There are many better restaurants to choose from than this place. Bon and I havent been to this location since it was La Strada...which was awhile ago... Its now Steves Piccola Bussola 3 located off the LIE in Hauppauge. We went for a late lunch, early dinner, around 3 pm which worked out well because it filled up as we dined. The place looks the same..Very warm and inviting, with the walls filled with bottles of wine and of course the white table cloths and servers in semi formal wear. From start to finish the service was on point! We had a bottle of Maltipulcinello de Abruzzo which is our fav drinking wine with Italian food.. For appys we ordered Baked Clams...absolutly perfect and delish..great dipping sauce for the fresh hot bread we had on the table. We were hungry and decided on 3 mains; Veal Parm, Linguini w/white clam sauce and Chicken Campagnola... we got the pasta to share, as the entres dont include sides. They offer single dishes or family style..we got single which was more than enough and we took home plenty for the next day. Dessert was a Pistachio Tartufo and Cappucciino. Good morning I had the opportunity to visit this restaurant on Saturday night , I was told that they have the best baked clams via Dine Long Island .. We started at the bar for a drink , it was average , the bartender seemed disorganized and flustered , and we were the only patrons at the bar , so no excuse .. We then went to the dinning room , quite nice but were told to sit anyplace we wanted , I find that slacking in a fine dinning restaurant . We were then greeted by a waiter and bus person with water and bread . I asked the assistant for salt and pepper and oil for the bread , he returned with a silverware roll up . I asked again and he looked confused . The waiter spoke to him and I then got what was asked for , my thought is even with a language barrier you should have a basic understanding of the table setting .. Ok, I then ordered the baked clams , meh at best .. almost liked they had been sitting too long waiting to be brought to our table We then lost our waiter .. WTH I mean he was gone .. another waiter came to us and took our order for additional cocktails and Chilean Sea bass . The Sea Bass was tasty , but again , no one came back to ask how our dinner was or if we needed anything. Forget the idea of dessert none was suggested and the plates were still on the table at this point . Not fine dinning at all .. At this point finishing the last of our wine , the car valet came to our table to tell us he was going home , and stood there waiting for a tip . I will attach what the owner wrote to me. Basically it's my husband fault for eating uncooked meat. As if my husband was stupid. The restaurant takes no blame on under cooking the pork chops. I don't have the restaurant wrong. I was there when my friend lost her mom for a family meal. I drive the black Jaguar. I ordered take out and always paid cash. I am glad that there are so many other restaurants opening up in that area I did call to complain and was told the person to talk to was not in. Don't worry. Me and my friends will never enter the restauarnt again. The new restaurants on motor parkway, Paces, the one that took over Mario's have really good food. Even Pete the Greek food is great. I live very close to that area. Even go to Insignias. Either take pork chops off the menu or make the the pork chop thinner. I am half Spanish. Easy to cook. What I enjoy about this restaurant is the family style menu where you all can share appetizers and entrees. You can also order nonfamily style entrees if your choice does not excite the others in your party. The food is good, and I usually order every time I dine at one of their restaurants had a couple of my favorite's entrees. This was my first time at their third restaurant of Steve's Piccola Bussola family-style restaurant. I had dined at this location when it was Café La Strada, there after becoming Steve's Piccola Bussola III. We love these restaurants because they focus on a southern Italian menu. My favorite appetizers include their baked clams, stuffed artichokes, seafood salad and grilled octopus. For entrees we love their swordfish Livornese and veal chop Milanese. Their prices are reasonable, and their service is delightful. It has always been an excellent choice when you have six or more people for dinner. read more

Met friends here last night. Tiny strip mall a few blocks from Central Islip. They had one older gentleman valeting cars to the back of the restaurant. It felt bad for him because he took forever. The inside has decent old ambiance. Wine bottles in racks next to tables. Nothing extravagant standing out. Now, here's where the problems started. I believe our waiter was real comfortable there & forgot he's supposed to be a waiter. He came over quickly, seated us, told us the specials & disappeared for 10 minutes. Got another waiter to get his attention. We ordered one round of drinks, fine. He got them quickly. we were enjoying good conversation and finally realized our drinks were empty. It had been 20 minutes since we had received them & we still have not given our appetizer or entrée orders. After waiting patiently another five minutes even though he was facing the room, he did not notice any of my gestures of hand in the air trying to get his attention. I finally asked another waiter to get him.. While the other waiters were moving quickly and efficiently, you could see, they were on point. Our guy was going in and out of the kitchen walking around and having small conversations. You could see his energy was relaxed. So I'm guessing he was one of the main guys . It was now 35 minutes into our reservation before we placed our appetizer and entrée orders. He had mixed up our drink orders, but we accepted them anyway. He had brought out two double whiskeys and two shots. Thats a lotta booze. To receive at one time. But, we weren't confident he'd be coming back regularly. When the entrées came out, mine was completely wrong. I had ordered rigatoni à la vodka with a side of meatballs. I got gnocchi Bolognese with a side of meatballs. He dropped everything quickly & ran off before I figured it out. I'd rather not get myself pissed by having to get his attention & then wait for my correct order, while everyone else eats. OK, not what I ordered, but I'm not a pain in the ass. Then 2 people ordered a coffee, an expresso. He came out with their order & 2 cappuccino s as well. I told him we didn't order them. He said no problem, keep them anyway. As if, on him. Of course, when the bill came, everything was on there. Again, we drank em so, I didn't care. It just seemed like he was always trying to drive up the bill a little bit with everything. If I asked for meatballs, he asked what I like small dollop of ricotta on top of the meatballs. Extra charge for the slightest thing. Oh! & when I got the bill, the meatballs were made of veal. An important thing they should mention while ordering. Anyway, overall food very good. But, not mind blowing. Service, we got the cool happening comfortable guy, who was barely going thru the motions. So, that's was the worst part. Very nice guy, the few times we interacted but, he could give a rats ass. He's been there, done that. Lol The other waiters were good. They helped us a few times. Finally, the value, I'm going to give extremely poor. The bill was $450 after tip (we didn't stiff him) we had 3 pasta dishes & didn't order desert or bottles of wine. First of all they give you bread, and l little plate with some cheese and olives and bruschetta on a toasted slice of baguette It was delish!! And we ordered the oysters Rockefeller for an appetizer which were so fresh and yummy. Came for a party on a late Sunday afternoon. I was surprised the restaurant was pretty empty. We had a bunch of shared apps for the table then everybody ordered off the menu for dinner. Food was on point, drinks not so much. I started with a cosmo which was incredibly dark but the second was incredibly light, kinda inconsistent. My friend got an old fashioned which came unusually as a pink drink with a grapefruit slice in it... we couldn't even figure out what mix of alcohol was in there besides vodka but it was def was not an old fashioned. I skipped a few of the apps/sides as I'm not a broccoli, clams or calamari person but the stuffed mushrooms, fried zucchini and crispy potatoes were on point. Very flavorful! I ordered the penne alla vodka with shrimp for my entree which came with baked cheese on top-unique but nice touch. Portion size was huge & the service was very friendly. Food was good and our server was great. Problem didn't come until we left. I was with a group of six with three small children. Valet was no where to be found for 15 minutes. It was after 8pm and it was not busy. He was inside of a car not paying attention to customers. When came back with our car I gave him a dollar tip. He bangs on my window and yells at me for the tip and walks away. Keep in mind my car was parked 20 feet away. Ending my night with someone trying to embarrass me in front of my family is unacceptable for any business and I will make sure to never go back. Wow! If you miss this one, you will be sorry. Friendly and accommodating. I had Halibut with white wine and capers and lemon with artichoke hearts. With it i had broccoli de rape with garlic and cherry peppers. Not on the menu. They made it specially for me. Delicious food and plenty of it. Delicious, authentic Italian food served in an intimate environment. The prices were a bit high and Italian style whereby each course is purchased separately. They have daily specials, and their menu is vast. Flavors are excellent; everything seems fresh. They have lots of regulars who come in and speak to each other and the staff animatedly. I felt very comfortable sitting there alone and got good service and a good vibe. The pasta Bolognese and chopped salad were perfect. The bread they serve complementary is awesome.
