    Best short ribs anywhere!

Excellent service. Great good quality. Best breakfast anywhere. Beautiful setting with indoor outdoor feel. Occasional sparrows flying in and out.

    Oysters. Just two.

Food was okay. Service started out great, then went downhill. Came here over the weekend and the host was kind enough to seat us early and we cozied up in one of the booths. The atmosphere was chill and romantic. Kerry started off so energetic and knowledgeable about the chef and the menu. We ordered bread service, 2 oysters, the vegetarian pasta but added the pacific halibut. I ordered the fowl of the day, which was guinea fowl in like a deconstructed pot pie. Then it starts to go downhill. Our entrees took an unreasonable amount of time and even the floor manager recognized this and stopped by the table to check in. Additionally, we wanted more drinks and also had to flag her down for that. We barely saw him after he took our order. Our food came luke warm, like it was sitting under the warmer for some time. The sauce on my dish was cold and the halibut was overcooked and dryyyyyyyyyyy. Thankfully they removed this from the bill. I could see staying at the hotel and grabbing drinks at the bar. They also had a piano player in the lobby/bar area, so that was a nice touch. But would I come back for dinner? Unfortunately no.

To note, this restaurant is inside the Bernardus lodge and Spa. Had a phenomenal birthday dinner here! Starting with the freshly baked bread and also the cheese plate; in the entrees, both the marinara pasta and their seasonal handmade vegetarian pasta were absolutely awesome and beautifully prepared. Definitely save room for dessert because the chocolate cake was a perfect, delicious end to a great meal. Will absolutely be back!

This hotel has two 4-star diamond plaques on their wall so believe the hype. This restaurant is so well kept and just like the hotel, the food itself is fresh and incredible. The ingredients are grown on the grounds with nice veggie and fruit dishes. I thoroughly loved the classic breakfast plate with buttery crisp hash browns, and two egg Benedicts with a creamy Hollandaise sauce. My wife and son's eggs were cooked perfectly. Their bacon is cooked just right; thick strips and no burnt ends. Even the yolks are orange! My son's apple juice was freshly pressed, my smoothie was full of their fresh berries with no artificial sweeteners, and the cream for our coffee was pure. It's no wonder why this place is on the Michelin guide. The farm to table experience here is spot on. Even their sourdough toast has a nice thickness to it and pairs beautifully with their creamy butter and jam. There's not a single complaint here. The interior decor to the bathroom around this restaurant is just an A+. This is by far one of the best breakfast experiences I've had. I want to stay here next time with my wife and spend quality time because the ambiance is perfect all around. I totally recommend this restaurant and hotel.

Had lunch on the lovely outdoor patio. There was live acoustic music which we enjoyed as background music and to drown out some noisy children also sitting with their families on the outdoor patio. Drinks were delicious, and food was pretty good. I ordered the wedge and their seasonal pizza. I'd say it was more of a flatbread, but it was yummy and simple. I had a craving after seeing a kid with a chocolate chip cookie so I ordered their cookie stack that came with a scoop of ice cream. The cookies were warm and comforting. Service was good and I would return while in the area for wine tasting or if staying at Bernardus, but only for lunch. There are some very good eats not far in Carmel that I would pick over Lucia for dinner.

My husband and I had dinner and celebrated my birthday there. We enjoyed the atmosphere, and the service was good. However, we felt a bit stomachache after the 3rd course, and we both had diarrhea two hours after dinner.

We had lunch at Lucia's the last time we were in Carmel. We sat on the patio because it was a beautiful day, albeit a little on the warm side. I had the chopped salad and my husband had the turkey sandwich. I may be a basic choice, but he said it was the best turkey sandwich he's ever had. The bacon was perfectly crispy, the turkey was real and the bread was amazing. My salad was also amazing. Would like to come back for dinner to try out some of the amazing wines. They are inside the Bernardus Lodge and have a lot of awards posted in the lobby.

This is just for Lucia Restaurant-- Maybe the best food in Monterey Peninsula. I've given "5" reviews and loved it. This is more of a "tip" -- had the lamb last night to celebrate wife's Bday. Food excellent- so why then"3l"--the lamb cost $60. I got 2 small ribs. Not two double ribs. About 4oz I'd guess. When dinner was over I asked our server if the portion was normal - Alex replied "yes"-- I am still a bit perplexed how two little but very tasty chops can cost as much as 14oz prime NY? Or 7 oz prime filet. Go to restaurants just don't order Lamb. No value for money spent.

Just had a lovely work lunch at Lucia @ Bernardus. In particular, I thought the chef did a great job substituting for the risotto in the scallop dish, since I have a dairy intolerance. Lucia is not a cheap restaurant, but I think it's priced where it should be and it lives up to expectations at that price point. I do wish I had known that valet parking was complimentary. Since it was, I'm not sure a staff member needed to tell me to move my car out of a valet spot--of which there were many dozens open--and surely that staff member should have mentioned the complimentary valet parking. But live and learn, I guess

Celebrated my birthday there with my family along with my birthday twin (4 years elder brother). We all had an absolute blast and a memorable experience. Being vegetarians, there were plenty of great options. The servers were really polite too and really nice. Loved our wine and the ambience of the place overall. Very top class. The staff also surprised us with a very nice gesture of giving us a birthday card along with complimentary cake and dessert. Thank you again for making it super memorable for me and my family

I wanted something to drink that wasn't sweet, so I tried their raspberry ice tea. They used a sugary syrup to flavor the tea, and that was a strike out. It was sweeter than a soda, so it went back and I swapped it out for a plain unsweetened ice tea. Then we tried the cheesy garlic bread, which we were really looking forward to. Welp, it came out with mozzarella cheese and a ton of corn. No butter. No garlic. We all looked at each other when we tried it. Ok, let's try their brussel sprouts. Those are hard to mess up - but sure enough, they managed to. They deep fried them to the point they were black and charred. There wasn't anything left of the brussel sprout itself, it was mostly crunchy charcoal. At this point, we all ordered something we assumed would be safe for our main. I got the sliders and a side salad. I had the salad but only of the sliders. The cheese on it was queso, like you use to dip chips, so it was ran all over the place and the burger was a grease ball. I won't even get into what everyone else had, but they had similar experiences. Overall, it was pretty disappointing. Maybe there are other things or other times where this place is better, but it was a swing and a miss for us.

RUNNING IRON: GOOD BURGERS & A LITTLE OLD-WEST CHARM…read more The Running Iron in Carmel Valley is a fun, casual saloon with a great old-Western atmosphere. It's casual, comfortable and exactly the kind of place where you can sit back and enjoy a burger without taking things too seriously. We stopped in for burgers. Portions were generous, the burgers were satisfying, and the fries were tasty. The patty melt was the standout--really well done. The onion rings, unfortunately, were disappointing, and the coleslaw was nothing special. Service was excellent--pleasant, attentive and readily available. One minor annoyance: an extra charge for a small side of Thousand Island dressing seemed a little like nickel-and-diming. The Tommy B Restaurant Scale of A = Outstanding or F = Forgettable - a "solid" B+. A solid choice for a casual burger and a good patty melt. I'd go back.

We both ordered burgers. I ordered the patty melt (2/5) and my wife ordered a spicy Mexi burger (2/5). Our friendly server (5/5) asked what temperature we wanted our burgers cooked. We both ordered 'medium'. My philosophy at all restaurants is...'If they ask you what temperature you want your grilled meat prepared, the kitchen should be able to cook to that request'. Unfortunately, both burgers came out well done and totally hammered. The restaurant was not busy so there's no excuse. The Running Iron needs a new cook. We will wait a year or so before going back so hopefully this bad cook will be out of the kitchen by then. The only reason I didn't give 2 stars was the fun and friendly service. Enough said!

We've been to Valley Kitchen dozens of times and the food gets better and tastier. It's evident that the chef and team explores how to incorporate fresh, local, and fine ingredients and bring to life the best of CVR's and California's identity to its dishes. Our favorites are the smoked salmon sourced from Santa Cruz and smoked at Valley Kitchen, Upside Down Hot Honey Cornbread .. and love how he uses the honey, cheese, and garden ingredients. At one point, we had strict diet restrictions and asked Chef Andrew to cook without sugar and to keep our meals below 5g of carb. Not only did we stick to our strict keto diet while traveling but we also fell in love with every single dish he made. Chef Andrew embraced this opportunity to test and adjust to meet our diet needs AND introduce us to new ingredients to include into our diet. We are forever grateful. On this trip, although we asked for his avocado dessert, he politely recommended Chef Molly's desserts. I love how he puts the entire team at the center of the experience. It's a team effort and the desserts were unique to Carmel -- especially with CVR lavender curd. The people who work at CVR and Valley Kitchen are top notch. They are extremely attentive, respectful, and friendly. Many of the servers have been there for years and it shows that when there is a good work culture that it translates to better customer service. The ambiance brings a combination of natural beauty, warmth and coziness (especially with the fireplace), and Californian modern and sleek. I love the Zafferano Pina lamps that provide an intimate experience and enough light to the table (need to see what we're eating!). We arrived with our child and were told the wait would be about an hour and a half. We understood that the restaurant was busy, so we decided to wait. Two hours later, we still hadn't been seated. What made the situation especially frustrating was watching the woman at the front seat people who had arrived after us, while repeatedly seeming to look us over and pass us by. After waiting well beyond the time we'd been quoted, with no meaningful explanation or acknowledgment, we'd had enough. We left. A long wait at a popular restaurant is understandable. What isn't understandable is giving guests a 90-minute estimate, leaving them waiting for two hours, seating later arrivals ahead of them, and failing to communicate what is happening. For a place with Mission Ranch's reputation, location, and prices, I expected a much higher level of hospitality and professionalism. Instead, we walked away feeling ignored and unwelcome. We never even got the opportunity to find out whether the food was good, because the front-of-house experience was bad enough that we weren't willing to give them any more of our time. Two hours wasted in Carmel. There are far too many wonderful restaurants in the area to spend an evening waiting around somewhere that doesn't seem particularly concerned whether you're there or not.

All in all, a wonderful dinner experience that I would go back to again.
