Made a reservation for a birthday party for 6 people...after waiting for 30 minutes and several people being seated before us we inquired about why we had not been seated. We asked for a booth and had 3 sets of folks seated before us who had no reservations and just walked in the door...unhappy to say the least!! read more

Came here on a Thurs. it was Happy Hour. $5.00 sushi and cheap drinks. Price/Value was good. Nothing special. They do have Hibachi tables, but I was alone tonight so I went on the bar side. I would go back if I was just looking for food, but not for any special occasion. read more

Stix of Fultondale has excellent sushi, and their ginger salad is the best. The tuna tartare is also super yummy (and beautiful). We do not eat on the grill side, so I cannot review the hibachi offerings. I have, however, tried the fried rice and the shrimp curry, and both were very, very tasty... I just like to stick with the sushi here because it is so good. Service can be a little slow at times, but the friendliness of the wait staff makes up for it. My husband and I visit this location at least once a month. Highly recommend. read more

I went to Stix for the first time today, having had good experiences at the Stix in Hoover. Now that I live in Gardendale I expected an equally good experience. Unfortunately not. My dining partner and I ate on the non-hibachi side. As another reviewer noted, it was FILTHY: dirty floors; fingerprinted and grease stained woodwork everywhere; dirty walls; dirty fabric on the booths. Much of the wait staff was clad in faded black clothing. If filth is readily apparent in the dining areas, I can only imagine the kitchen. I did not attempt the rest room and didn't have the moral fiber. I ordered chicken pad Thai and it was-- average. The sauce was exactly like pad Thai everywhere else, but the noodles were hard (undercooked). While the vegetables looked fresh, several of the scallions had notably "off" flavors. There is no excuse for average pad Thai at an Asian restaurant. This one compared badly to Surin or Tapei 101 in Birmingham, and California Pizza Kitchen in Hoover back when it was on their menu. Our waiter was fast and friendly, but his fingernails were dirty and he was oily and sweaty; mighty unappetizing. I realize that waiting tables is hard and kitchens are hot, but please.... This place was and is not a "do over;" a candidate for Restaurant Rescue, perhaps.... read more

Had the hibachi - steak was OK at best, shrimps were slightly overcooked and bland. Fried rice was damp, and everything was very salty. Definitely not the best food experience. Doubly depressing when you see the big city prices on what is clearly a little town version of a japanese steakhouse. Our chef was clearly novice, dropping things all over the place and generally making a mess of things (he poured the yumyum sauce directly on the table at one point, rather than, you know, into the cup). He was good natured about it, but wasn't quite a pro. I'd also like to second the comments about the waitstaff being to young to know anything about the drinks they serve. Never a good sign. Totally underwhelming experience, and the $30 (after tip) price tag for an entree and water left me feeling flat-out robbed. read more

This is the best Japanese restaurant in the area! The fried rice is tender and flavorful. The portions are satisfying. The lunch menu offers most of the options available on the dinner menu at very affordable prices. The cooks are friendly and great showmen. Stix, Fultondale, Al, restaurant is the best place ever to eat. I love the atmosphere, the staff, the great drinks! It's really a place where you can get to know your waitress/waiters. I want to say a big thank you to 2 of my new friends that are both waitress' there...Chrissy and Mary Catherine...aka MC. You both took the time to help me get through a time of hurt. By your kindness my night turned out great. Most places don't even attempt to know more than a person's order, let alone someone feeling very sad. But not at this location of the Stix franchise. Wife had cashew chicken and loved it. I had Mongolian beef and thought it was excellent. Portion sizes were very good but I would have liked more rice. Happy hours runs until 6:30. Service was very good. Easy access from Interstate hotels. Would return if we are in the area again. read more

I have eaten at Stix 2 before and it has not been bad but it is very dirty and I don't think I will be going back. The food was "ok" and usually when you sit at one of the grills they serve you way too much food ex: the "chef" kept serving me rice and I told him I did not need anymore but he continued to give me more and more rice until my plate was filled over I am not impressed by this and unfortunately the whole place is a little unappetizing for me. read more

I travel a lot, mostly in the South East. I enjoy Sushi and try to find it where I go. Never did I think that Alabama would have a quality Sushi bar. No disrespect to Alabama, I love the state especially the Gulf Coast. I decided to have dinner at Stix and it was the best. I sat at the Sushi Bar and watched the Itamae prepare my order with great care and precision. It was a piece of art that was edible. The Nigiri was so fresh and the rolls were delicious. I highly recommend that you put this on your list of places to eat. I keep a list of my favorites resteraunts in my iPhone and this will be added. read more

Stix in Fultondale has a nice, long sushi bar staffed by two chefs in the evening. The sushi is fresh and the presentation is impressive. I enjoyed the food and I will eat here again. read more

I haven't sat on the "restaurant" side yet, but I've been to the hibachi grill twice, and both times were good experiences. The staff is pretty flexible with special requests or explaining how the different orders work. I recall there being a "share" and a "split" option for any of the orders off the grill, and one gives both parties a salad, soup, and choice of rice, but the other doesn't. The food isn't five star, but I enjoy hibachis for the experience and atmosphere; that said, the meals I've eaten there have been enjoyable, tasty, and fun. Price for individual menu items is in the $12-20 range for most things, plus any add-ons requested, so dinner can quickly get pricy. However, for like-minded folks that don't mind sharing, there's plenty of food to go around with an order and you won't walk away hungry. For an "occasion" dinner, Stix is a good spot to try, but it's definitely not a once-a-week place, at least on the hibachi side. read more

I prefer Sumo as far as hibachi goes, but this Stix is satisfactory when it comes to sushi. It's not the best, and it's not the worst. They have quite a few new offerings on the non-grill side of the menu, and maybe one day I will try some of those. Visited this establishment for lunch on Thursday, Feb 21st. First thing we noticed was the temperature, it was VERY cold inside. The staff looked like they were dressed for Halloween (yes I am old-fashioned, expecting a reputable business to look professional). One girl had hair the color of Bozo the Clown. The other girl had lip ring, and nose ring making it looked like she had an unclean nose. Neither seemed very competent with how to properly treat customers. The nose ring girl asked us how many and she took 2 menu's and tossed them aside until the other girl, who was seating other customers, came back. Once we were seated, this grungy looking fellow with his pants bagging to his knees came to our table, kept his head down and gruffly said, "what do you want to drink"? Me and my friend looked at each other, both thinking how rude he was being. We mentioned that it felt like the A/C was on and it was very cold, could they turn on the heat or turn off the A/C. He said he would tell the manager. We both knew this wasn't going to happen by the way he responded to us. And sure enough, it didn't happen. When he was taking our order I asked what other soups they had besides onion. He replied they have other soups but they come in large size only and not as a side soup with lunch. ???? Huh??? Seriously, if you have soup, dip a lunch portion, this didn't make sense. So then I asked if I could get a different dressing for my salad because I don't like the ginger dressing. He said they didn't have any other. (I really doubt that is true). The salad was nothing but lettuce....seriously, lettuce only. That is not a salad. We had to ask for straws, because none were left at the table. While we were trying to eat we were literally shaking from the cold. I had to zip up my jacket. I then asked the red haired girl to bring the manager to our table about the heat. He never came, so I don't know if she even asked him. I didn't care for the sesame chicken, it was too spicy, I prefer a sweeter taste. The steamed rice was good, but we didn't like the crab wontons either, too fishy tasting. The waiter was rude until it came time to pay the bill, then he was very talkative trying to butter us up for a tip, which he didn't get. I wont ever go back to this place. read more

My fiancé and I went here for a quick bite and order the scallops to go. I walked in a little over an hour before closing. There was no hostess and I stood at the front door for 2-4 minutes and no one came. I walked around the partition and saw a group of workers sitting and laughing in a booth. One of them saw me but didn't say anything, she just looked around. After about two more minutes the girl that saw me yelled across the restaurant and asked could she help me with anything. I said I would like to place a to go order. She then told me to go "over there" and place my order, as she pointed in to the general direction of the bar. I walked over to the bar and the people at the bar pointed me to this little section right before the kitchen and bathrooms where two girls were entering receipts. I walked up and one looked at me and said "yes?" Somewhat forcefully. I said I'd like to place a to-go order. She sighed and said ok what do you want as if I knew the whole menu. Luckily I did know what I wanted. I ordered and she said ok it'll be out soon. I took a seat at the bar to wait. I sat at the bar for 37 minutes. She finally came out with my food and gave it to me. I then walked out and the hostess was there with her bag. She halfway said have a good night. I made it home to open my food and was very disappointed. Some of my vegetables were burned and they were incredibly dry and wilted and discolored. The scallops smelled extremely fishy... not how they're supposed to. I love scallops and eat them quite often. The salad looked like it had just been shoved in the container and all of the lettuce, which was all it was, was very wilted and some of it was very discolored. The scallops were tough and as I bit in the last one I was surprised with a very hard, and painful, crunch of some type of shell. The only redeeming quality of the dinner was the rice. It was the only truly edible thing there. read more

Just not good in any way. The sushi was ok but extremely overpriced. I eat sashimi at least once a week and have never paid any where near what this place charges. I ordered a salad that was supposed to come with some sort of vinaigrette dressing. What came out was basically a sweet and sour sauce and it wasn't a mistake. Also, the coconut soup was just bad. I love this place! Great show they put on at the grill, the waiters were very nice! Although our waiter did forget my soda and had to remind him, he was at least apologetic. Love the food! So good! Although I would rather not sit by a bunch of people I don't know, they are usually nice. Although if you worry about smelling like the food when you leave, you can be sure that you will smell like the food. And sometimes the chef will miss putting the shrimp, chicken or what ever he's throwing around, in your mouth. This isn't for sure, but it has happened to me and my shirt got dirty. So you might not want to wear "fancy" clothes. Other than that I still love this place and will be back for more! :) read more

Very disappointing on take-out service. Many times the order will be incorrect. Portions are always smaller in take-out then if you eat in. I hadn't been in awhile so I stopped tonight at 6:30 to give them another chance. Went to bar to get a glass of wine and to order and they said you couldn't order dinner at the bar anymore if it was take-out, you had to go over to a small area with a table near a wait station and by sushi bar to order and pick up. I was not pleased and so the girl bartender (who called me love, darlin', honey, and dear, and me old enough to be her granny) asked the to-go waiter to get my order while I sat at the bar and had my glass of wine. That was fine. Then another female bartender started wiping the bar down with a Clorox soaked rag. It was obnoxious. I told her it really smelled and she cheerily said, "yes I guess it does, but at least you know it is clean." I could barely finish my wine. I went to sit at sushi bar to wait for my order. Again, more Clorox soaked rags were being used and it reeked. I have been in the food and bar service field and really could not believe it. Finally got my order after 30 min. Made the mistake of not checking it. Got home and my Mu Shu With tofu only had tofu, rice, pancakes and sauce. No Mu Shu vegetables and scrambled egg. I called and spoke to manager. Very rude. Wanted me to drive back to get the right thing. A round trip would have been at least 30 min.! I told her I wasn't doing that, and I wanted a refund on that dish. She asked my name, went to look at order, and then returned to shrilly tell me I was only getting refund for the incorrect dish then hung up on me. Now in the past, I would have spent enough at bar for 2 glasses of wine while waiting. So they basically don't want the business in my opinion. I felt like a 2nd class customer. Just ate here a couple weeks ago. We sat by the bar, but ordered the normal grill food that was brought out from the kitchen. It tasted nothing like what is served in the grill area. Vegetables looked like they were steamed and they were overly seasoned with pepper. Rice was bland and undercooked. The steak tasted good, but was overcooked for what I ordered. Then, I just read that this Stix in Fultondale was just given an 82 health rating...because several problems in the kitchen. You should read it...it made me really sick to my stomach and I never want to go back there. read more

Please read this before you try to drink here, they don't have experienced staff and they don't handle situations very well. I go in there to sit down at the hibachi grill and we were told to wait for 10-20 mins. I was astonished that the wait was so short on a thursday night, but wrote it off. Me and my date were sitting at the bar waiting to be served about to get a drink when they called me to the table. They gather the drink order and come to me and I try to order a mojito, the woman asks for my ID, which granted I look very young so I'll give it to her, but she could've been many 18 at the oldest. She takes a look at it and tells me she can't take a paper ID (issued from the DMV because my previous one got stolen with my wallet) and I try to explain my situation and she seemed like she accepted it, however, the manager soon came. This woman was disheveled and smelled of alcohol on her breath and was shaking. She explained the amount of people they had with fake ID and explained that she couldn't accept the paper one issued 3 days prior because it was out of state and even when I showed her my student ID and my cards she still thought it was fake. I eventually had enough with this back and forth and simply replied "well there goes your revenue anyways" and she left without so much as an apology. I turned to my friend to apologize and left without a backwards glance to PF Chang's that has much better food, service and atmosphere.
