We had bbq from here for a work lunch. It was the family size meal for 6, which meant we could try a good amount of items. There was turkey, sausage, and brisket for the meats with the western beans, dirty rice, and heart attack potatoes for sides. I think it was certainly edible bbq, but nowhere near being a place I'd recommend given the strong bbq scene in Houston. The best items to me were the brisket (it was done pretty decently, and we had a mix of both lean and fatty), along with the heart attack potatoes. The potatoes are excellent, kind of like a dry potato salad (as in, not mayo-y), with lots of flavor. My coworkers enjoyed the sausage and most of the other items. I would say the "turkey" was definitely sub-par though and I'm not entirely sure it wasn't their sliced chicken breast since it was sliced similarly to what you'd typically see. Maybe there are better things to try on the menu (the wings?), but there are also lots of other places for great bbq in Houston. read more

I was in Houston for a conference and my co workers and I were craving BBQ. All places were closed and we found this gem! The food was BOMB! The people are super friendly and were very helpful, answering all our questions about the menu. I ordered the brisket, wet ribs and pulled pork with regular bbq sauce on top of all it. went here on christmas day to show family in town texas bbq. Happy it was open during the holidays, but very mediocre bbq. The chicken was slightly dry but undercooked (?) the brisket was missing some flavor. the mac and cheese pasta was soft but good!! the corn was the best dish out of all, which was shocking because it doesn't look great! I'm not sure why this place has 4 stars. Everything I got was nasty and had no flavor unfortunately. As far as meats, the 1/2 rack of ribs and brisket is nasty and doesn't taste like anything. I came here on Christmas day and I realized, I never hear anybody talking about this place. I feel it's a little underrated. You should definitely give it a try. Great place to eat. They give you lots of food, and the bbq sauce is very good - sweet and a little spicy. I like the pickle and onion bar with jalapeños, dill pickles, onions, etc. (just help yourself). I got the pinto Beans, which were too spicy for me, but my companions loved them. Solid BBQ place! I really wanted beef ribs so when I went in search of a place this establishment is what I found and they have great reviews andvthe pictures looked pretty appetizing. I ordered beef ribs, beef shirt rib dinner, an order of spicy rice(not the name for it but it was sort of like a BBQ version of dirty rice. It had bits of neat in it), heart attack potatoes (yum). and banana pudding. Luckily for me, the BF didn't want the short rib which was the tastiest thing I ordered. It was so good and huge too. It was enough for three meals. It had great marbling and was juicy and tasty. I would definitely order it again. The sauce on it was very nice. The beef ribs were tasty enough. I wouldn't order again though. I would encourage others to try it though. The rice side dish was very good and I would eat it by itself. It was very filling. The heart attack potatoes were pretty good. I would order them again. They are not as "heart attacky" as the name, which was good for me. I got them because neither the BF or I was interested in any other side and I'm glad we got them. Not a huge fan of bacon or cheese but these were done right. They had sour cream in them which made them taste very rich. I had a spoonful of the banana pudding which was good but too sweet. So i have ordered the same thing here 3 separate times. The beef rib. It's like a half pound big slab of beef on a rib bone. The first time, it was so amazing. Smokey flavor, fall off the bone. I wanted it again the next day and every day for weeks but it's a pretty big indulgence so i didn't get it. Eventually, i ordered the same thing again - maybe a month later. I got it at 11:30am on a weekend and when I got it - it was tough, not as much flavor, not much char on the outside and wouldn't come off the bone... like you couldn't pull it off. It was so disappointing. I waited another month or so and thought i would try it again. I called in a to-go order and specifically mentioned it hadn't been great the time before and I asked if maybe i had gotten it too early in the day and it hadn't been cooked enough to be fall off the bone delicious. He said it should always be good and so I ordered it again hoping the previous time was a fluke. Turns out time number three was also bad so i guess the fluke was the first time when it was actually good. I am really disappointed I was never able to replicate my first experience when it was amazingly good. I have been there for other things like the brisket, sausage and turkey breast. They were alright, nothing special. I usually come here with an empty stomach because there's no way you can leave without feeling stuffed full of goodness! I always get their "Two Meat Platter" with pulled pork, sausage hot off the grill or smoked brisket for my meats, Mac n Cheese, Pasta Salad or any of their fries as sides along with a slice of their cornbread. Their Stuffed Spuds with Chopped Brisket is so good and perfect for sharing because it's huge! Not to mention, I can't get enough of their Banana Pudding! Since the first time I ate here a couple of years ago, I haven't found a BBQ restaurant that comes even close to Stockyard's offerings. Today I ordered the one meat with two sides platter. I ordered chicken breast along with garlic green beans and macaroni and cheese. I couldn't pass up their banana pudding as I've had it before and it was divine. What I love the most is that you have the option of which BBQ sauce you'd like; they have spicy and original. The spicy isn't too hot, but it hits the spot! I always ask for extra on the side since I immerse my protein in it. All three times I've ordered from here, I've ordered to go. I was stunned and angry to learn that some MORON complained and LIED that the smoked wings weren't fresh.....a BOLD FACED LIE!! More than once I have stopped by for wings only to learn they were SOLD OUT. The smoked wings were VERY POPULAR and cooked fresh DAILY. Because of a LYING MORON, the owner decided to remove the wings from the menu. I will give this place a two star review not because of its food but because of its service. I was throwing a party for my fiancé who is leaving for the marines and had a bbq party for him at an ice rink. I spent damn near $300 on brisket, ribs,and mac & cheese. When I ordered on the phone I had wonderful customer service the staff was perfect and when I came in to pay the man at the cashier was super kind and incredibly helpful and funny. Fast forward to the next day I called ahead to make sure that my food is ready to pick up. When I called, the lady on the phone was incredibly rude And told me that my food was going to be ready at 7:10. Mind you the day before I had set up to make sure that my food would be ready before seven. Now I understand things happen, and it's not the end of the world but if you're being rude and my food is late we have an issue. On top of that on the phone she said they were incredibly busy but when we drove up literally three minutes after our phone call only one customer was there. We decided to wait inside and in order to not be a bother to the lady inside who was obviously the lady on the phone seeing as she was the only woman I wait until 7:06 in order to approach and making sure I stay out of her way and don't disrupt her. When I approach her not only was she incredibly rude but she had the biggest attitude I have ever seen. I understand sometimes we have bad days but if I am paying you so much money and you can't even just keep snarky comments and attitude to yourself like wtf. Other than that the food was fantastic the rest of the staff was fantastic everybody was kind except for her. The decorations are incredibly beautiful Inside and out as well. This wasn't my original destination but while in the area early evening I thought I'd do a search for dinner before heading back to my hotel. The reviews and photos got me here the BBQ will get me back. Although the parking lot was scary empty when I first arrived there was a steady flow of traffic once I got my food and found a seat in the mostly vacant dining room. This almost cafeteria style BBQ joint didn't really surprise me or affect my decision to eat here once I walked inside, its apparent that this is a popular style used by a lot of BBQ restaurants in Houston. Since there weren't many customer I was able to read the menu boards mounted above the serving counter without being hurried and finally settled on a three meat dinner although I expected it to be more food than I wanted to eat, this provided a great opportunity to try a wide selection of their BBQ. My assumptions come to find out was correct the portions are huge as were the selection of those smoked infused meats. Three meats, two sides and a 10 oz glass bottle of cane sugar Coca-cola will run you about $21.50. Smoked Turkey - Hand sliced, dry rubbed, moist and tender sliced turkey breast with a almost herb like mild seasoning rub, blends well with the throughly smoked flavor profile you can only get from low and slow cooking. Pork /Beef Mix/Jalapeño Smoked Sausage - A very lean to fat ratio cased smoked sausage that was perfectly smoked to maintain a good moisture content but yet yielded a casing that snaps, also hand sliced to order. Not overly spicy but not for those that prefer milder flavors. Dry Rubbed Smoked Pork Ribs - Don't expect fall off the bone tender that's not what makes a great BBQ rib, it was tender enough with a defined smoke ring, a slight outer bark that maintains the slight chewiness St. Louis cut pork rib lovers demand. The dry rub seasoning wasn't overbearing but provided a distinct flavor that really brings out the accents of the pork. Deviled Eggs - (3) halves flush filled with a semi-moist mayonnaise based filling served chilled with a light dusting of paprika. I only tasted one half of one half it wasn't bad just the meat portion was so large I really didn't need any sides. Green Bean - A fairly large helping cooked tender, slightly seasoned, again my focus was on the meat I only tasted these they were just okay in my opinion. The restaurant appeared clean and organized the staff was very friendly and accommodating, I really liked the portions and that all the meats were hand sliced with a knife verse a slicer.
