Based upon a fellow Yelper's recommendation, I finally ventured in to try the food for myself. All I can say is, "Why did I wait so long?" I've passed this place tons of times but hadn't eaten there until today. I sampled the beef brisket and the jalapeño sausage. Both were yummy but there was something about the brisket that made me want more. So, I went with it along with the other traditional stuffed baked potato toppings. While that was being prepared, I had a chance to look at some of the sides and desserts. Although there were several good-looking options, the cabbage and rice caught my attention. I will definitely try those on a future visit. As for the desserts, I highly recommend the homemade banana pudding. It's only $3.99 a serving and worth every penny. The only reason I'm not giving this place a 5/5 is because of the BBQ sauce. I'm glad I asked for it on the side because it wasn't for me. This places has gotten mixed reviews from bbq experts as well as yelp's self-proclaimed bbq experts. I've passed by this bbq spot probably 100 times but I finally decided on my day off to try it. I showed up at a very slow time, 3pm on a Tuesday, so I was expecting something great. This counter service place exceeded my expectations. I easily picked out my meal from the screens, a brisket po-boy and homemade fries. I requested brisket from the fatty end and the man behind the counter ended up giving me some excellent Q. I added spicy sauce to the side, but somehow that didn't translate and it ended up on the sandwich. The fries came out a few minutes later after I had stopped by the fixins bar for pickles onions and jalapenos. Added regular sauce to it, and it was a solid entry. Be happy to get it again. The turkey was unfortunately dry. Flavor was decent but couldn't mask the dryness. She got the hot BBQ sauce - "it tastes like regular BBQ sauce with hot sauce added." Her sides were ok but nothing special. We also got a pint of banana pudding - which was excellent and actually homemade. We opted for the pint instead of th cup because it's really expensive just for a cup, so we spent a bit more to take some home. Which brings us to the trouble...this BBQ joint is ok, but it's on the expensive side for the level of food. The good: The prep time was short. I liked the variety of options on the menu. The dirty rice tasted good. The banana pudding was good. The brisket was smoked to perfection. The bad: They forgot the corn. The picture of the dirty rice with big pieces of brisket was misleading because there were tiny crumbs of brisket in there. The fried breaded okra was extremely salty. The price of the food didn't match the amount that was given- the brisket meat portion was very small. On the plate I went with brisket and sausage for the meats. The brisket was surprisingly quite good. Tender and smoky. Seems like they might have used hickory wood for the smoke. I think this is what a prefer when it comes to bbq, but I'm still learning to taste the difference. The sausage was superb. I have to admit that I didn't actually try any of their bbq but had one goal in mind and one mission - run in and out with a container of banana pudding. As a banana pudding fan but from SoCal, where it is slim digging for good banana pudding, I was initially excited to move to the South to find more places with this specific dessert. However, unexpectedly, it has been pretty hard - or at least to find good homemade banana pudding. This place does the dessert justice! The pudding itself is flavorful and honestly volumptuous. It has the fight amount of gelatin (if any) to give it shape but also that little bit of free curves. While it had a good amount of vanilla wafers, my only suggestion is to amp up the amount of banana since the portion I got seemed to be lacking. Everything in one bite - whipped topping, pudding, wafers, and banana - was like a digging into a cookie jar with that childhood shameless guilt. A little less sugar would be nice but that's just a personal preference and nothing that won't keep me from buying a pint of this next time. Yummy! read more

I HAD to take the time to right this review. I went to Stockyard last night for the first time. First, let me give Kudos and thanks to the employee that made my experience even better. I ordered my food but I forgot to ask if the restaurant had curb side pick- up. I assumed they did. When I arrived I found they have delivery and pick up only. When I called the restaurant to let them know I was there the gentleman explained to me that they do not come to the car. I explained I could not walk ( wheelchair) and he graciously said he would come to me. So 5 stars for customer service. Then I ate the food. OMG- I ordered one meat ( Smokey chicken) with okra and the cucumber salad. The meat was very smoky, moist and tender. I'm I had planned on eating half of the sides BUT I could not stop eating them. My mom and I ordered the 3 meat platter with two sides and split it amongst the two of us. Here were our thoughts... The Good: The heart attack potatoes are to die for! You won't be disappointed! The jalapeño sausage are nice and spicy and surprisingly packed with flavor which pairs well with the spicy BBQ sauce. They offer a pretty decent wine and beer selection. The brisket is "OK" when drowned in spicy BBQ sauce. The Bad: The Mac and Cheese was pretty gross. No seasoning and it was served to us cold. Pork ribs were not cooked all the way. These smoked chicken wings were everything, and more that I was looking for. The meat is melt in your mouth tender, you can tell they took their time with this chicken. Two options, spicy or mild, I ordered both! The spicy isn't too spicy, and it's full of flavor, the mild has all the flavor, just dialed back on the heat. I love them both! The cooks might have came straight down from heaven. They make their own BBQ sauce that also comes with options, spicy and mild, just like the wings, I love them both. As a side I got the rice, I tried this before I bit into the chicken and immediately knew that from the way the rice was prepared that the chicken was going to WOW me. The people working are very helpful, and are just as happy to serve as I was happy to eat. The atmosphere is calm, country music plays in the background as sports play on the tv's. I came to eat here alone and I'm definitely coming back for the food and the feel. A feeling of fullness and relaxation all in one. Finally a decent bbq inside the loop! Was craving beef ribs and found this place had it. Sunday bbq it is!! Got the brisket asked for moist, a pound of beef ribs, and side of devil eggs. Brisket wasn't moist, it was actually a bit dry. I wonder if the lean cut would be like jerky. Beef ribs was excellent!! Plenty of juice, not dry, and cooked perfectly. This was the first stop I made on my first night out in Texas. After doing a lot of research on yelp before my trip I was super excited to come and grab some good BBQ. Upon walking in the smell of smoky sweet BBQ hit my nose and made my mouth water immediately. I walked up to the counter and saw fresh smoked brisket being sliced and knew rite then and there that is what I was having. I ordered up sliced brisket with a side of mac and cheese and their potatoes salad that had sour cream, cheddar cheese and bacon. They also gave me two slices of jalapeno cheddar cheese bread that was to die for! The brisket was so tender it fell apart with ease and had the most delicious flavor, smoky and with the addition of the sweet bbq sauce was the perfect combination. The mac and cheese was of the best I've ever had and I finished it within seconds of it being served to me. The potatoes salad was delicious as well but I was blown away with my brisket and mac n cheese. A nice cold beer was the perfect addition to wash it all down. The restaurant itself is very reasonably priced for what they give you. The dining area is spacious and has a lot of Texan décor which makes you feel rite at home with the BBQ theme. I had a link sandwich with spicy BBQ sauce while my boyfriend had the turkey sandwich. They are very generous with the amount of meat you get on your sandwich. The sauce had just enough kick to me but for my boyfriend he thought it was a little to spicy. He ate the whole sandwich though . The prices are affordable and they also have drinks. Please have someone making things that understands English in addition my brisket was so dry even dumping 2 containers of sauce it didn't matter. Still dry as hell. This review is purely based on the customer service. (I will update after I eat) I haven't even eaten my stuffed spud yet. We drive by this place all the time and decided to give it a try today. We came in at about 9:10-9:15 for a to-go order. The man cutting up the meat had a horrible attitude. A couple customers were in front of us and he discussed his displeasure in Spanish about the amount of people coming in to get food when they didn't have certain items left. Ok, I can understand that. However, this is my first time coming here and I understand Spanish so it feels like you don't want to serve customers even though you don't close until 10:00pm. Uncomfortable! We move past it because I really want a baked potato. My boyfriend wants to order a platter. He asks for brisket and when he tries to inquire about the different sausages he just points at the menu and says to look at the options. (It is valid to have questions about the menu.) He proceeds to throw the briskest he just cut up in the trash and sighs frustrated that we don't know what we want. (Which we don't because we've never been here and we're asking for suggestions) Confused and displeased, we decide to purchase my meal and leave. The lady who checked us out didn't even speak to us or give us our total. (Only one man acknowledged us and was pleasant and he asked what sauce I wanted.) I will never return here simply based on the service we received today. If it is that much of an inconvenience to answer and help a customer decide what to get when they haven't been there before you should not be the person to greet people coming in.
