Sad decline for one of our favorites. We have not been here for about two years and they have gone through some changes. Not all of them good. The remodel they did is nice - place is a bit brighter. But they now serve "high-choice" grade steak, which is not the same prime. Only they don't tell you that on the menu. You have to ask. They only have one prime-grade steak which is from Prescott of all places. All the other steaks are high choice. The problem is my high-choice ribeye was chewy and even had some grizzle I could not eat. My wifes prime Prescott steak was good though. I ordered rice pilaf as my side and it was disappointing. It had pecans & cranberries and did not even taste like rice, let alone rice pilaf. We always used to consider Stockyards as a good alternative to the Scottsdale steakhouses. Not any more. read more

I went to Stockyards Restaurant with a group of co-workers for dinner and it was a great experience all around. The food was excellent, classic steakhouse done right. My steak was cooked perfectly, tender, and full of flavor. Everyone at the table seemed really happy with what they ordered, which says a lot when you're with a group. Service was professional and smooth the whole night. They handled our table really well, kept everything moving, and were attentive without hovering. Wow... Honestly this could be a top 3 steak I've had and will have in my entire life. We were in town playing some golf and had this place recommended as the best steak someone else had ever had. Over all the service and dinning experience was delightful. The roaring 20's decorative murals on the walls and architecture makes it feel very warm. The steaks are all grass feed and as a traditional steak house all cooked to medium temperature, they will however cook your steak however you'd look if you ask. I got the ribeye, which was good but after seeing the filet mignon I would have opted for that instead. The food was ok, it was definitely cut correctly which you could tell but the tenderness when eating it. I never write reviews but I had to for this one. I was there yesterday 6/21/26 and was excited as my last visit was great...yesterday not so much. We were sitting in the back room near the bar. We ordered some drinks and they came out fast. The appetizers came out fast too but the calamari was overcooked and we maybe had enough for 2 people. Ok an oversight I can let that pass for the quantity. We also ordered shrimp cocktail and there was still poop in them. I know you all are probably thinking well send it back, I do not send food back. Yes, I cleaned the shrimp when I shouldn't have to. Okay the table ate those and then salad/soups were just fine. Then we waited and waited and waited and waited for our dinner to come, while everyone else in the same room got theirs with no issues as I saw steam coming off of other's plates. Finally, our entrees come 3 of us had steak and 2 had seafood....steaks/vegetables were dull and cold but the seafood ones were hot. Someone dropped the ball somewhere and I understand it was Father's Day but your restaurant is HUGE that's not new. But you all were quick to take away our appetizers plates like almost stalking our table to get us out of there. But you missed the mark on dinner. My parents have been to this restaurant a dozen times and have had no issues, we love it that's why we chose it for yesterday. Ambiance- as this is now a historical landmark being one of the first steak houses in Phoenix serving the same recipe. I felt that we were intruding on his space and he treated our small group of three people with an air of disgust. When we asked him to take a picture of us since we had not seen each other in over 40 years he acted like why are you bothering me with your petty request. Met up with friends for happy hour so my experience was @ the 1889 Saloon section of the restaurant. I loved the ambience, vibe and the service. The food from the HH menu however was disappointing. The Queso Fundido $14 tasted more like warm hummus and the tortilla chips were very bland. Definitely needed some salt on them. 2 prime rib sliders with fries $18 was good, had a good amount of meat. The fries were very dry. Citrus Burnt Crème (their version of crème brûlée)-$14, not on HH menu, was smooth, light, and not too sweet. I'm not a fan of overly sweet desserts so it was perfect for me. We've enjoyed the Stockyads since the 70's when there was a cattle operation by the Resturant. Lots of history here. The ambience is formal Western, nicely appointed dining rooms. In their defense, it is an upscale-ish restaurant . In my defense I could've gotten a nice steak dinner for $40 instead of a half tuna sandwich and a small cup of soup.... My service was great . I would like to come here another time and try some of their steak to see if the quality of their beef is worth it.. For our brother's weekend, we booked a reservation at the Stockyards restaurant in Tempe! It was over the top. The service was incredible; two servers took care of us for our table of 10. And the entire inside was built like an old Western movie. The walls were covered with unbelievable artifacts and pictures of what it used to look like out in the West. As for the food... It was incredible! I saved a ton of room throughout the day by not eating and saved up for this meal. Totally worth it! I ended up getting the clam chowder, a side salad, a side of mushrooms, and some scallops with a medley of veggies. After all, I ended up getting the cheesecake, which was to die for, and a two-thumbs-up meal. My partner and I just finished suit shopping for our wedding coming up and we were running about 15 minutes behind. I don't typically drink alcohol anymore but was considering a glass of wine with my steak and the server just kept coming within like a couple minutes "you want a drink yet" . Which the attitude turned me off of ordering. Luckily the food was great! Awesome rolls to start off including jalepeno corn bread and honey butter. Salads were typical. The venison/wild boar sausages were bomb with great sauces to accent the meats really nicely. It was wonderful. The restaurant oozes with history, with interesting decor adorning the walls. The food was spectacular. We ordered the chateaubriand for two, and every bite was lean, tender and delicious.
