Was looking for a place close to the hotel, and saw this steakhouse so I said, why not! It's in sort of a strip mall/business complex so doesn't look like a lot from the outside but don't be fooled. As soon as you walk in it has classic steakhouse vibes. Was seated quickly by the nice hostess out front and a waiter quickly stopped by to take my drink order. The people inside seem to fall into 2 groups, people celebrating something and business dinners. I ordered an old fashioned to start and reviewed the menu. I really wanted a steak, but I'm also a sucker for pork chops, they had a tomahawk pork chop on the menu so I had to get it. For my sides I got the house salad and the whipped potatoes Tomahawk pork chop was fantastic Cooked perfectly and seasoned well. Was a big boy but I ate the whole thing House salad was a typical salad, good and an ice way to start the meal Garlic whipped potatoes were very good. My mom has wanted to dine here for more than a decade and she finally got the chance for her 70th last night! Hubby and I treated her (and all of us) to a wonderful meal, start to finish! Our reservation was for 6:30 (Open Table) but due to lack of traffic, we arrived at 6pm. Since our table wasn't ready (which was understandable!) it gave us time to read about the history, look at the pictures on the wall and visit the amazing bar. Once seated (in a quiet booth towards the back), Ron introduced himself as our server and got down to business. We started with drinks (beer & chilled wine) and ordered the calamari. While waiting for those, the busser delivered a freshly made breadbasket, and ice waters in beautiful, cut crystal glasses. The bread (corn bread and biscuits) with whipped honey butter didn't have much flavor but it's a nice addition. Back to the calamari...it was nothing short of FABOULOUS!!! It was so tender, and the breading was so light and flavorful. The sauces (tarter type white sauce and cocktail sauce) were also terrific. Truly one of the best I've had! 3/4 of us ordered the 8oz filets with salads and garlic whipped potatoes. I ordered my steak cooked medium but about 1/3rd of my steak was too red and bloody. I finished it but I would order medium well next time. The hubby ordered the DelMonico (bone in NY) which was large and cooked perfectly. His baked potato with all the fixings came hot and ready to enjoy. The salads (wedge for 2, house for the other 2) were so fresh & tasty! The size of each salad was perfect, and I loved that Ron added croutons to mine after I asked. The potatoes were served hot (often times that isn't the case), and everything was seasoned perfectly. A complimentary birthday dessert was offered & enjoyed by mom. She chose a citrus crème brûlée which she loved. It was beautiful and enough to feed my parents. This is definitely a special occasion type place based on the average cost of each meal but certainly worth the trip. read more

We've wanted to visit the Stockyards Restaurant for years, having been born and raised in Arizona. So, when we visited Phoenix this week, we decided to celebrate two family birthdays there. It was wonderful. The restaurant oozes with history, with interesting decor adorning the walls. The food was spectacular. We ordered the chateaubriand for two, and every bite was lean, tender and delicious. The wedge salad was a great start, and for dessert one of us ordered the sour cream cheesecake and the other ordered pecan pie. Again, every bite was delicious. To top it all off, the wait staff was perfect: friendly and attentive. We wouldn't hesitate to go back. read more

After living in Phoenix for over twenty years I finally made it to Stockyards for AZ fall restaurant week. The food and drinks were amazing, the waiter seemed a bit grumpy. I had the strawberry cosmo which was perfectly balanced and after two I was feeling no pain. I started with the steak soup which was hearty and delicious and then had the prime rib with loaded baked potato. Second best prime rib after Chelsea's kitchen. Lastly finished with the chocolate mouse and it was a great finishing touch. Aside from the waiter seeming to have a bad night this was great. Met some old friends for dinner on a Wednesday night, it had been almost a year since we'd been to The Stockyards, and I'm happy to say it was just as good as ever. We arrived about 5:55 and were immediately seated the place was a little over half full, and we were seated in the John Wayne/Barry Goldwater booth. Soon our waiter came out and introduced himself and took our drink orders and brought us a basket of bread and muffins. Soon our drinks arrived and we placed our dinner orders. Two of us had the 8 oz. Prime Rib, the ladies both had the 5 oz. Fillet Mignon, and we all had loaded baked potatoes and salads. The prime rib was cooked a perfect medium rare, it was tender and easy to chew, the baked potatoes were loaded and cooked to a soft texture. I really like their salads since they toss the salad in the dressing keeping it lite. I tried my wife's fillet mignon and it was very tender and flavorful. For dessert we all had the pecan pie and it was just as good as ever. The Stockyards is an old school place full of history as they continue to cook good steaks and fix-ins and I'm glad it hasn't changed. read more

My food wasn't good at all. I got the crab cakes, side of loaded potato and for dessert we got the strawberry short cake. The crab cakes were SUPER dry. I haven't been to a place where I didn't like their crab cakes but this place took that prize. The dessert... you could taste the freezer burn on the short cake. I was really looking forward to having a better ending. The only good thing was the loaded potato. At the table, other people got the liver and the NY strip with the house steak butter. I never write reviews but I had to for this one. I was there yesterday 6/21/26 and was excited as my last visit was great...yesterday not so much. We were sitting in the back room near the bar. We ordered some drinks and they came out fast. The appetizers came out fast too but the calamari was overcooked and we maybe had enough for 2 people. Ok an oversight I can let that pass for the quantity. We also ordered shrimp cocktail and there was still poop in them. I know you all are probably thinking well send it back, I do not send food back. Yes, I cleaned the shrimp when I shouldn't have to. Okay the table ate those and then salad/soups were just fine. Then we waited and waited and waited and waited for our dinner to come, while everyone else in the same room got theirs with no issues as I saw steam coming off of other's plates. Finally, our entrees come 3 of us had steak and 2 had seafood....steaks/vegetables were dull and cold but the seafood ones were hot. Someone dropped the ball somewhere and I understand it was Father's Day but your restaurant is HUGE that's not new. But you all were quick to take away our appetizers plates like almost stalking our table to get us out of there. But you missed the mark on dinner. My parents have been to this restaurant a dozen times and have had no issues, we love it that's why we chose it for yesterday. I think out of sight out of mind was the issue yesterday then maybe not use that back room. We were offered desert for the mistakes, and we ordered some but at that point we were disappointed. This was the first time I have been to this restaraunt, though i am 5th generation native Arizonan, this was the first chance i was lucky enough to go to this one of the oldest restaraunts in the valley! I consider it to be in the top 10 dining experiences! The service was slow, but fabulous! The steak was small, but to die for! You would never think this place is a restaurant from the looks of the industrial type building it sits in. Lots of old pictures of the past, dim dining area with comfortable seating. Great wine list. We ordered the wild boar and venison sausage to start. I was pleasantly surprised (I'm not usually a fan of wild game). I got the special rib eye for the night. Unfortunately they need attention to detail but it was crowded on a Thursday nite but I got a reservation the day before at 7pm. So no one waiting in line. That should tell the chef something but the location doesn't lend to high end clientele but rather tourist and visitors. But hey that's a market too if you don't need repeat business. Loved the staff, history and the food. Great steak with the butter. Parmesan potatoes by far our favorite. John Wayne ordered those and prime rib, he also sat in booth 20. Loved the stained glass. Lived in Phoenix off and on for about 10 years, never been, and had wanted to try it out since it's a historic location. Choose as a late Valentine's Day dinner. Pros - decor and history around the building are nice, my Baron's Manhattan cocktails were delicious, and I enjoyed the rolls/biscuits and New England clam chowder that came with the meal. Cons - I ordered their most expensive steak, The Arizona Cut 24 oz bone-in ribeye at $80 and upgraded to the twice baked potato for $12. Upon delivery, I noticed the $12 potato was about the size of a banana, disappointing and overpriced to say the least. The steak, ordered medium rare, at first glance looked good. However, with a poke test and cutting into it appeared to be underdone at the center to the point of being between rare and medium rare. My girlfriend looked at it and thought the same. She said I should and I considered sending it back. However, we had been observing for some time the couple behind us appear to have multiple issues with corresponding visors from our same server. With that our server essentially never visited us to see how things were going. I decided to eat as much of it as I could given there obviously appeared to be an issue in the kitchen with cooks at a steakhouse not knowing how to cook a steak to temperature. After we finished, we decided to order their $15 bread pudding, which is one of my favorite desserts to order if available. Again, at first glance, it looked good. However, the bread pudding was not even warm. This time, our server stopped by and asked how it was. I gave her my honest opinion and told her it wasn't that good. I could make it better myself at home. The server essentially tried to play my comment in stride, making a joke to the effect of saying they can only do the best they can do and everything can't be to everyone's taste. As we were leaving I stopped by our neighbors table and jokingly asked "over or under?" He said they had to send it back 3 times. I grew up in the restaurant industry, so I am sympathetic to those that work in the industry, but will be brutally honest as price point to me sets the standard for quality of food and service to expect. For example, I've dropped $400 for two at a Cowford Chophouse in Jacksonville, FL that had excellent service and food in a renovated old bank building with rooftop seating g and bar overlooking the river. One of the best experiences I've had and would highly recommend. However, after dropping $265 for two with tip, for me, it'll be the first and last visit to The Stockyards. If you're a fan of traditional steakhouses, Stockyards is the place for you. Look up their rich history on the website - you can feel the charm of the place when you walk in. If you can possibly arrange it, visit during AZ Restaurant Week in May or September as the deals are phenomenal. I took advantage of the Prime Rib restaurant week deal. For $50, you get a 12 oz. cut of flavorful, perfectly marbled meat. It's the best I've had in a long time, as most of the prime rib I've had in other restaurants is mostly fatty and tough. This generous cut also gave me enough for leftovers as well. The deal also includes your choice of potato. I think our super cool server (Che) allowed me to get the twice baked potato, which wasn't on the approved list. Very nice guy! Your other two courses during Restaurant Week are choice of soup/salad/chili and a dessert. The house salad was crisp, fresh and delicious. The pecan pie was also excellent, albeit insanely rich. Took some customers here for dinner. Great atmosphere and the service is excellent. Big menu and nightly specials. One of my guests tried the Bison ribeye, said it was excellent. The other 2 got the tomahawk pork chop, both said it was a little dry. I had the 18oz bone in delmonico, had good flavor, but had a lot of gristle - the kind that you can't chomp through.
