long story short: good quality food, large portions, wont break the bank. im a newbie in irvine and i stumbled upon this place thanks to yelp... i wanted a good, no frills dinner and i was led here. i wasnt really sure what to expect but its kind of like a cafeteria style dining experience where you order your food at the register once you enter the restaurant. then, you are given a number and you find a place to park and your food is brought out to you (very much like corner bakery, nordstrom cafe, etc). my husband and i ordered a pizza and salad to share and we were stuffed! my only complaint - it was pretty crowded so when we did find a table after someone left, we had to ask muliple times to get it cleaned off so we werent eating with someone else's leftovers and spilled crumbs on our table. not a huge dealbreaker or anything... just annoying. but i guess for the price point, service isnt going to be the quickest or greatest. read more

I am here to sing the praises of the cartwheel salad as I sit at my desk eating it for the approx. 25th time. Against corporate policy? I don't care. By far my favorite salad on the menu. Fresh, shredded romaine and iceberg blend, garbanzos, radishes, beets, diced tomatoes, black olives, tortillas strips, and the tastiest cilantro dressing you've ever had the pleasure of knowing. I usually get a couple breadsticks and they're pretty good, but it's this salad that conitnually brings me back. read more

I am not a huge "yelper." I only find the need to make a comment when I have either received exceptionally good service/product, or when I have received exceptionally bad service/product. In this case, we tried Stonefire grill after 2 1/2 years living in Irvine. Boy, this place was packed, but the food was terrible. We started off with the breadsticks and salad which were good, so we were looking forward to a great meal. The tri-tip, ribs, and chicken we received for our main course were a huge disappointment. Great Service. Tasty Breadsticks. Best Chicken. Awesome Salad. Awesome Pizza. It was late and we were craving for pizza. I yelped our answer to Stonefire Grill. We came in the half hour before they start closing the place. Overwhelmed with the menu to choose from. Waiter saved the day which he suggest getting a meal consisting a whole Lemon Garlic Chicken, 8 Slice Pizza with 2 toppings, 8 Garlic Cheese Breadsticks, and BBQ Chopped Salad with tri-tip for about $30, tax included. That makes $10 each since there's three of us. It was from a coupon offer but he was awesome giving it to us. Chicken was really moist and really lemony(be forewarned). They gave lots of garlic and cilantro. Its a messy presentation though, but I can careless. Salad was surprisingly good. Their tri-tip steak pieces in the salad was so delicious. I wish I could give this place 3.5 stars. It's an order at the counter and they bring you your food place. Overall, the food was good (better than similar sit downs in the same price range such as TGI Fridays, Olive Garden, etc.). We were here for dinner. I had the 1/2 rack of ribs, which came with a salad. I also ordered a side of vegetables which had grilled tomatoes, zucchini, egg plant, mushrooms and roast red pepper. I thought all of it was very good. The ribs were better than a lot of places, including some chain BBQ places. My friend had the salmon, which also came with a salad. He liked it. Both dishes also came with bread sticks. As you would expect, everything is self service except for busing your dishes. It was pretty crowded with a couple of larger birthday parties, the usual dinner crowd and a bunch of kids running around. Overall, it was good meal for the price. Dare I say theme park food? Well that's what the food here at Stonefire reminds me of but I mean that in the most positive way. I love their grilled chicken and steak tri-tip. Breadsticks are always served hot and "fresh" (not sure if they are actually made fresh or just baked from frozen), Salads are,well, salads (which I am not a big fan of anything salad). Got tri-tip half BBQ and half garlic. Tri-tip was great and really liked the caesar salad dressing as well. Breadsticks were good but pizza was just ok. Not enough toppings on the pizza! The tri tip, chicken, mashed potatoes, and garlic sticks are delicious! I've been going here for many years and the food is always great. I ordered the half chicken, which came with caesar salad and bread stick, for their lunch special. I have never been so disappointed which prompted me to write my first review. The salad was decent, the bread stick was the only good thing about the meal, and the chicken was just a disaster, literally. My plate looked like the chicken exploded with all the picking and failed attempts to get it to my mouth. The white meat was too dry and the dark meet was too mushy and disintegrated into pieces with each touch. It tasted old and flavorless. The skin was the only thing that made it bearable to eat. Based on the reviews for this place, I was probably unlucky with what I ordered. I think it shouldn't even be on the menu. Would I come back? Most likely not anytime soon. read more

True, it was a bit of a zoo. But what do you expect? It's family friendly. So, if you don't have kids and want to pay a lot of money for amazing food - go somewhere else. Salads are large portions so come hungry or share with a friend. The garlic sauce is tasty but can be a bit oily so ask for half-serving to cut down a bit. I had a great experience here.. Clara Y was extremely nice and took her time explaining things as it was my first time eating at stonefire. I had the tri-tip south salad (blanking on the full name) but it was good.. not mind-blowing but good.. wish they put more tri-tip. Hands down one of our favorite places to eat. We have dined in and taken it to go many many times. We have had a couple issues with the BBQ chicken being a little grainy but every time we called about it and they replaced it free of charge. We have even gotten some free carrot cake once or twice (its amazing). Our favorite items are the Pepper Garlic tri tip, Cesar Salad (best I have ever had), carrot cake, ribs and pizza. The chicken and tri tip is decent. The meals which come with one small choice side and a choice of salads on the side is a far price. The only reason I give this a 3 instead of a 4 star review is because they occasionally mess up orders or dropped my food on the floor the previous visits I have had. :/. We were all set to go to to Urban Plate but the line was out the door. I had never been to Stonefire before and had no idea what they were known for - BBQ meat plates, as it turns out. No thanks, not at lunch. I had the small BBQ chopped salad which comes with tri-tip or chicken. Chicken, please! The salad was huge - if that was the small the large must be for a family. It was delicious and the bbq chicken pieces studded throughout were divine! Really smoky and very tender. The greens were perfect and the dressing was good too. You order at the counter and food is brought to your table - which are plentiful as the place is huge and there is outdoor seating as well. It's a tad on the noisy side and VERY casual. I'll be back with my BBQ-Fanatic husband and report on their smoky meats. If the chicken in my salad is any indication I'm sure we will be pleased! read more

I don't write review often but today I feel like I must. Nothing worse then ruining an experience with poor service, especially from a supervisor. I was picking up some family meal for the family, the staff are always friendly and professional. After noticing my order was wrong( I actually found out they gave me more then a ordered and paid for) I bought it up to the staff who for some bizarre reason asked for a supervisor. The supervisor looked then told me it's wrong and it was too much then with out a simple thank you or sorry for the mistake walks away with the extra food. WTF! What an arrogant guy! Even the staff was stun he just looked at me with a look of " that was the boss not much I can say"...so shame on you stonefire, places with crappy service and don't even bother to appreciate that your customer tried to honest and save you money should be out of business. Your food is in the trash very unhappy with this horrible attitude especially from a supervisor don't know the name he has short( think he is going bald) with some facial hair you deserve to get fired! Since my last review stonefire has reached and apologized all though the experience remains to be negative points to stonefire for doing the right thing and caring about what customers think! Ordered take out for a Father's Day get together. Went straight from the restaurant to our kitchen. When I went to serve the salad there was a DEAD LADYBUG in it. Dead ladybug, in salad. Horrible meal tonight. Dry trip tip and it was cold. My mashed potatoes was a mix of dry bottom crust and old green onions with sour potatoes. My wife asked for a container for her soup and it took so long to get, when we got it the lid was dirty. Her extra lemon garlic sauce looked like something out of an old grills grease trap. This was my very first visit to this restaurant and I was beyond impressed. Menu is very extensive, service is great and the food is clean and delicious. I had the Mediterranean chicken salad, a side of the farro salad and some hummus as an appetizer. Everything was outstanding. I am going to go back soon to try some of their cauliflower dishes as those sounded amazing, as well as their ribs and chicken. I have had some friends tell me about their family meals, which I will also take advantage of as well as soon as the location near my house opens this Spring. read more

Stonefire Grill has been a consistent place for us for many years. Most recently, I went there for a casual wedding rehearsal dinner and take out for our extended family and both times they were excellent. The value can't be beat and and the quality's pretty good too. Although they don't take reservations, they were pretty helpful when we told them we were having about 50 people there. We couldn't reserve the patio so we just had a few people get there 30 minutes early to set it aside. Last week, we picked up food for our family (6 adults + 2 kids) and got their stimulus meal package. Not a bad deal! We got 2 of them and it was more than enough food with leftovers. Each meal includes 1 of the meats, breadsticks, some come with a small pizza, and a salad for 20 bucks each! So we spent $40 to feed 8 of us, not bad at all (esp. since we could've feed at least 1 more person). read more
