Sunday night, November 10, 2019, our first time at Stoney River. We arrived just before the dinner rush. There were four people in our party. Below is what we ordered and review of same. 1). Sea Bass - no complaints, food was warm and tasty. 2). Steak Burger, cooked as ordered, however fries were cold and burger was lukewarm at best. 3). Steak Burger, cooked as ordered, again fries were cold and burger was lukewarm at best. 4). Famous Steak & Biscuits - As I recall this came with 5 mini steak biscuits, one of them the biscuit was saturated with grease and were lukewarm; the fries were cold. The ambiance was good overall. We waited what seemed an unusually long time from the time the order was placed until we got our meals. The wait staff was substandard. Lastly, for a restaurant in this price range generally the manager comes around to ask if everything is satisfactory. We received no visit from the manager. For restaurants in this price range there are definitely better choices than Stoney River in Deer Park, NOT RECOMMENDED!!! read more

We ate here a few weeks back. The place is in need of a good manager. First there were the little things. All of the table cloths on every table were wrinkled. Some of the tables were off kilter so they did not line up with the aisle. Then there were the 8 extra chairs stacked in the aisle in full view of the entire dining room. I mean couldn't you store those in a less conspicuous place? Then there was the waiter. He was pretty gruff, didn't know or go over the specials. We ended up ordering way too much in terms of appetizers because the portion sizes were enormous. A little guidance from the waiter might have helped out here. Then our food came. My wife ordered a medley of beef medallions. They were cold. To be more precise parts of them were warm and parts were ice cold. How does that happen? If the plate was microwaved! I'm sorry but we do not pay good money to get microwaved food. If we wanted that we could have stayed home and heated up the leftovers! When we complained they took the plate and brought it back 5 minutes later. Clearly they just microwaved it again but the warmth didn't improve it. The meat was really chewy after being microwaved several times. We definitely will not return! read more

This was my first time eating at Stoney River. I rarely post a review but my dinner last night earned a few words. I was pleasantry surprised how good the service and food were! Our server Emily recommended and excellent bottle of wine. The steaks were well above average! Best strip steak that I have had in a long time. Scallop potatoes to die for! I got the steak salad. It was excellent. Great presentation too. Their table bread is fried, tastes like a donut, and comes with maple butter. Desert before food. I love it. Although, the service was a bit upside down. I asked for no blue cheese and tomatoes. It came with both. When they took it back, another server tried to give me someone else's steak. A table mixup. They did fix me a new plate without the blue cheese and tomatoes. Manager never apologized, and nothing was done to make up for the mistake. If it not for the service, i would have give 5 star. read more

I live about 40 minutes from this restaurant. I like to support places around the area. I'm ok driving if I like the place. Stoney River used to be this place. I will never go back there. One evening my husband & I decided to have a good steak. After reading a few Yelp reviews in the area, we decided to try Stoney River. I was a bit hesitant because a few years ago, we ate there & were not happy. Unfortunately, I can't remember what disappointed us about the restaurant. So I was willing to give them another chance. From the beginning, the host/greeters were very welcoming & friendly. The young lady who took us to our booth complimented me on my unique name & curly hair (I'm glad she noticed I was having a good hair day). Our female server was professional, friendly & informative. Even if I had a silly question, she was not condescending. Yelp reviews recommended the Crunchy Ahi Tuna roll, so we had to try it. OMG -- that was sooooo good. My only complaint was I wanted more on the plate. We were very pleased with our entrées. The steaks were done perfectly and the side dishes were delicious. Just when you thought they could not top the experience anymore, we ordered desserts. I could not decide between the Creme Brûlée or the White Chocolate Cheesecake. But I noticed the "Chocolate Fudge Blondie," so I decided to try it out. WOW!!!! Every bite was orgasmic. I've never tasted anything like that. Even when I offered my husband a bite, I was hoping he would take a sliver. Obviously, we could not wait to come back to Stoney River. So for my husband's Birthday, we went back one month later. But this time, we invited Steve's youngest son. He got to experience all the delicious meals at Stoney River. This time, our next great server was Chris N -- he had a great sense of humor. Of the 10 locations nationwide, Deer Park is the only location in Illinois. I'm glad, because we would like to make this our 'new' favorite spot. read more

We had 18 people in at Christmas and spent a great evening and good money for excellent food, drinks and service. In fact, we've done our family holiday meal here for a few years, bringing in people from across the country. Tonight we decided to celebrate a birthday. Five of us were there for dinner. What's changed in 2 months? Customer satisfaction and food quality. Our waiter said the Prime Rib was a featured item and was so tender you could cut it with a spoon. As you can see in the picture, we could cut it with a spoon, it was 50% fat. And the picture is one serving, not two. That much fat in one cut! I'm a big fan of this cut of meat and have eaten it everywhere. What a surprise (bad surprise, not good) - the dish that was not really marbled with fat, but marbled with meat. It was EXTREMELY salty. The wife and I were both disappointed and disgusted. Steak salad was just okay, kind of an odd dish that wasn't really much of a salad. Steak & biscuits verdict - one family member loved it, another didn't. Three people had fries and weren't very happy with them at all. Went from excited about this place to "where else can we, should we, go?" Not sure what's going on, saving money on meat? Sorry Stoney River. First time here and from the outside, I thought it was going to be another mediocre steakhouse chain...but I was wrong. When we sat down, our waiter greeted us with a basket of very warm, fried, poppy seed bread balls, served a soft maple butter concoction. I don't have the exact name for these puppies, but man, they were good! My quiet voice kept telling me, "eat just one", but did I listen?! Noooooooooo...6 puffy balls later, I was stuffed but my entree had already arrived. I was not too bright! I ordered the seared ahi tuna salad entree. It was good, not great. Would not order it again. Also stole a bite of the coffee-cured filet mignon...Whooooooooaaaa! It was one of the best steaks I've ever had. So tender and flavourful and you don't taste the coffee. Our waiter explained to us that the tenderloin is prepared with a special brine (coffee, brown sugar and molasses). I highly recommend ordering this dish. It was amazing and yes, I had just "one" bite because my 6 puffy balls were ballooning inside my tummy. The steak came w/au gratin potatoes and green beans. I truly thought I was done eating, but the potatoes were taunting me and so, I took a bite. They were heavenly! Did not attempt to ask the waiter how they were made because in my state of denial, they were carb-free, fat-free and virtually little or no calories at all, ha! Thought I was done eating but I also tried the green beans (I relapsed, I know, I know!) and they too were good. Skipped dessert...it was tough, but I just didn't have the room for it. I took my boyfriend here for his birthday and we had a great time. I chose this restaurant because of the location (it was close and his birthday fell on a Monday), its ambiance, and the fact that it is a steakhouse (my boy likes his steaks). Considering the circumstances, I think I made the right choice! We split the seared Tuna Salad as an appetizer which was a fairly large portion and had great flavor. We both obviously ordered steaks for dinner and they were cooked perfectly. The service here was excellent. I even called ahead to tell them it was his birthday because I wanted to surprise him. Okay, it met my exceptions mostly, but didn't exceed any. Here's how I break it down: GOOD: - The facility itself is large and nicely furnished. Seating is comfortable. The huge, stone fireplace is neat, and breaks up what is otherwise kind of one big space. Nicely done. - The service is quite good, from initial greeting at the Host desk, to being seated, to getting drinks, and to the servers. Very professional, and well done. - The price-point is reasonable. It's a half-step less than top-shelf steak chains (e.g., Ruth's Chris, The Capital Grille, Fleming's). This place has $35 steaks versus the top-tier's $50. And this chain is clearly a step UP from Outback and Longhorn and the like. LESS THAN GOOD: - Well, the steaks are good but not great. For example, better steakhouses usually offer thicker steaks. And if you like medium rare or medium, you need some thickness to get a nice finish on the outside, while still being nice and pink inside, right? Steaks here can be 1/2" or thinner. - Some of the cuts are not well trimmed, leaving too much fat for my taste (I'm talking around the perimeter of the steak, not, say, like the areas of fat in a rib-eye). So there you have it! Feel free to differ, but if you do, please write a review and tell us. read more

We have been here several times. They make a great steak, and we love their mixed drinks. The only thing we are disappointed in is the ambience. This is a high-end steakhouse (based on food quality and pricing), yet the restaurant layout includes a large bar area right in the middle of the restaurant. This makes for a very noisy fine dining experience. If you come here for the food rather than the ambiance, you won't leave disappointed. read more

This was our second time eating here, the first was in the restaurant and this time we ordered takeout. Everything was fantastic both times and I can't believe the food held up so well with takeout. I'm not sure if they have lowered their prices during the quarantine but they are SO reasonable. We ate the crab cakes, filet, whiskey shrimp and chocolate cake. We were there celebrating our granddaughter graduation from Navy Bootcamp. We did not have a reservation but when they saw we had a new sailor with us, they jumped into action and we received VIP service. The food was excellent. Wow amazing! Made a reservation to celebrate my daughters birthday. They did not disappoint.. We had ribeye with encrusted horseradish. Food was phenomenal! I tired the steak roll appetizer, lobster bisque, and filet trio. Everything was delicious. The portions are also huge.

I tried my girlfriends burger and it was amazing, I got the filet mignon. It came back overcooked but mistakes happen, the manager is an extremely nice man and got it all taken care of for me, even gave me a free piece of an amazing and comically large piece of carrot cake. I wish I got my waitress's name because she was a very sweet waitress who was always there to make sure we had what we needed. Will come back Update: Best damn carrot cake I've ever had read more

The food and service at Stoney River is usually exceptional but my experience last night was far from that. The food was still great quality and was again prepared to our liking. Our server was extremely kind and prompt but some other events going in the restaurant are the cause for the low review. One being the bugs at our table. It started with one fruit fly and as our food slowly came out several more started to appear. Keep in mind we ate inside and far away from the doors and were near the kitchen. We switched tables but yet, more flies and bugs on the table. Then, it appeared they were training several new employees. The, I assume manager, was yelling and explaining the kitchen with no regard for those inside. Finally, the trainee's began to clean things in their downtime. They were not sanitizing but rather cleaning glass and stainless steel objects. The chemicals they used were rancid and several other patrons were visibly disturbed by the odor. I'm a very fair person and normally give high reviews but this experience was very disappointing and not usual for Stoney River. Thankfully their food was still amazing but there were many avoidable incidents that should just come naturally for a restaurant like this. read more

This place is truly a treat. I can't wait for my boyfriend to take me here again. The prime rib is mouthwateringly delicious. The lobster bisque is excellent! Creamy, smoky and decadent. I've seen several reviews that say the staff is inattentive and rude...but the one time I went here, the waiter was SO attentive and enthusiastic, I could have sworn he was on some kind of drug! He was very sweet and attentive and the hostess was very enthusiastic too. I believe we also had a manager or someone check on us at one point. We were placed in the wine room due to it being a little crowded, which wasn't the most convenient...we were interrupted a couple times by waiters needing to get into the wine safe. And I'm guessing this is the room they put families with small children. Honestly, I think that's a great idea because the room is a bit isolated from the rest of the restaurant and is really intended to be an intimate, fancy and romantic atmosphere...and kids can sometimes really put a kaibosh on that whole mood. I guess my boyfriend and I were just unfortunate to be put at a table in there at the time. Though no real complaints, the kids with the family next to us weren't TOO obnoxious. Came here with my wife for our wedding anniversary dinner. Was greeted warmly by the hostess. We were shown to our table immediately. Our server was pleasant and friendly and made many good recommendations. The bread balls were outstanding! I had the prime rib with garlic mashed potatoes which were very good, but they were served at a cool temperature. This is why they didn't get a 5th star. My wife had their signature filet mignon topped with crab meat and asparagus with a bearnaise sauce on the side which she enjoyed. Portions were good sized that we both ended up bringing some home. Stopped in for a meal the other night... Started with a Signature Martini. Has a rosemary sprig but it's just for looks and fragrance, the star were the blue cheese & jalapeño stuffed olives. These make the drink!! Ask for a couple... The shrimp cocktail was really good. Plenty of horseradish in the cocktail sauce and the shrimp were not overcooked. Might think of adding a bit of tabasco as the sauce could use some tang... The deviled eggs are pretty good. The sugar comes through on the bacon and sort of overpowers the rest. Needs a little savory in the egg, salt helps but a bit of mustard would be even better... The combination is right but needs a bit more balance... French onion soup, another item on the sweet side missing the savory part. The onions were super cooked meaning no texture. The cheese & crouton were great and browned perfectly. I started eating those bread balls... They are like sweet bread doughnuts that you dip in the honey butter!!! Seriously more sweetness?! But I could not stop eating them!!! At this point I was starting to get full... but continued on... Had the Ribeye w AuGratin. Finally the savory!! The steak has good flavor, not as tender as I would have thought but this isn't a dry aged item. I still liked it. We also had the French Dip... Umm one of the Best!! Now it is made with the prime rib and they mix some onions and horseradish in there which is not a normal French Dip, but it's really good! It is something to go back for IMO. I love the fries here. Thin, crispy, fresh cut...nice. It wasn't busy on a Monday eve and the service was good. I'm not big on salty dishes but a few things could have used a bit for balance. I did not salt the steak because it was perfect to me. We had a couple cocktails 3 apps & 2 entrees. I think the cost was fair. These are Choice steaks not Prime so texture will be different than the upper end steakhouses. But it's a good place that is pricey for some things but doesn't gouge the wallet. read more
