Went here after my VA appointment since the Nashville VA just happens to be right around the corner:) Also, this is my wife's favorite spot in Nashville, so those two combined for a guaranteed visit. The ambiance there is one of our favorite aspects of the whole experience-low key lighting for each individual table makes for an "inclusive" experience despite being surrounded by other tables...it almost feels like y'all are the only 2people in the whole joint. Wait staff is very courteous and patient, doesn't "steer" you into buying certain items and works hard to strike the balance between giving your table enough attention that you're never lacking, but not too much attention to where you can't have a conversation without being interrupted. I wasn't sure about this place originally, because I don't like chain restaurants but I was happily amazed. Right from the hostess to our amazing Server Chuck Who was soooo knowledgeable about everything , and entrepreneur, and super friendly. Everything he sagested was amazing . Needles to say I age my own streaks and there 22oz Ribeye streak was according to my wife closest to my Ribeye steak. Last night we dined at the Stoney River Restaurant in Troy on Saturday, February 1, 2025. We were celebrating our son's 30th birthday. Might I add this is his absolute favorite restaurant! From the time we stepped through the doors we felt welcomed! The restaurant was warm and inviting. The staff were professional and friendly! We requested our favorite server, Melissa. I know she went out of her way for all her patrons but she had a way of making us feel extra special. The food was absolutely delicious. Everything was perfect from the taste, the temperature, to the timely manner it was served. We enjoyed our drinks, appetizers, bread , entrees, sides and desserts. Visited this location with family in town. First, plenty of parking and we had a reservation but it's not required. It was pretty busy at 7:30 on a Friday. After ordering wine and margaritas, we were served biscuits that tasted like donuts served with a honey butter - amazing and gone in a flash! For our food, the portions were large including the side salads. The pork chop, steak salad, 7 oz petite filet and Tuscan chicken were all very good and we would order it all again. Our server, Brady, was nice and knew the menu. We did wait a bit between the salad and entrees but we still had a great time catching up while we waited. My wife and I came upon this restaurant by accident. Thank goodness they let us in with no reservation. In short words: Our server Nick was well informed, gracious, and always there when needed. Our food was cooked expertly and to perfect temp. The side dishes were fresh and hot and obviously hadn't sat under a bulb waiting for the entree. The wine selection suited us very well. The interior was clean and welcoming. We loved the ambiance that the fireplace and dark wood gave off. The floor manager Shanon came by to check on our visit. We don't often observe such a commitment from an associate and we're very impressed. The senior manager also stopped by. I did not get his name but he was also very welcoming . I think we have found the best Mac and cheese in Tennessee too! They also gave my wife a delicious piece of birthday cake. We are definitely fans of this restaurant and plan to become regulars. Great all around. We had a party of 8 and had no issues! The facility is modern with a hint of a traditional feel, and definitely a place that you'll want to dress business casual to. Everything from wall sconces to under the tables was clean, including the restrooms and waiting area. The staff was extremely kind. We called the night before to get reservations and received no judgement. They did seat us a bit late but the wait wasn't an issue when you're in great company. Our server was knowledgeable and quick, he had great recommendations and was with the company for a while (it was nice hearing about the owners/ heart behind the place). Finally, the food was phenomenal. Most of our party was still stuffed from lunch but still ordered meals and appetizers. We loved everything we ordered! The dessert was also a must try! My first time to this restaurant. When I walked in, the smell was wonderfully intoxicating! Music, decor, and staff all make it feel like I could spend all day here. There are way too many things to try so I'll need to come back! French onion soup was fantastic. I also tried the lobster bisque (2 soups, what?!) and it was good. If you're between those, do the French onion. Service was great! Based on the server recommendation, I ordered the whiskey shrimp on country toast. Loved this too! Dinner with friends! Great steak restaurant for dinner. The service was excellent and the dinner was equally as great. We enjoyed filet mignon and the NY strip steaks. Each steak was prepared as requested. Even the well done steak was juicy and very flavorful. Everything is ala carte. We each had salads - house and wedge with one opting for the lobster bisque soup. All delicious! All were fresh and tasty. Hats of to the chef! My friends raved over these rolls. The ambiance was nice. They have a nice selection of wines and we enjoyed after dinner coffee and Irish crème. The only complaint is the dessert menu....No regular cheesecake. They only had the pumpkin cheesecake. Great experience, at a lower price point than the "boutique" steak houses. Good food, great service, small drinks. Disclaimer, the drink prices aren't out of line, but they seem really small/weak. The only other complaint, and it's a minor one, is you feel like you are eating at a "chain". Overall, I'm sure they are consistent with food quality, and the service was what you would expected from any high end restaurant. Was it a "must visit" on our list of restaurants, no. Usually a solid choice, but not on our most recent visit. We usually sit at the bar, which was pretty packed for a Sunday night (Daytona race postponement may have had something to do with it). They were short staffed at the bar, which can explain some issues, but not others. Drinks: We ordered 2 cocktails, which arrived in a timely manner. My wife's martini was well-prepared, my gin drink off the menu, which involves Fever Tree club soda, arrived flat. I'm guessing I received the latter half of a bottle that had been opened much earlier in the evening. This particular bartender has a difficult time executing this drink, even when they're not slammed, and yet I keep ordering it for some reason. Also, it took until the end of our meal, and a request, to get some water. 2 stars. Appetizers: Steak egg rolls rarely disappoint. They were great, but were served with the stingiest portion of sauce I've ever experienced at Stoney River. 4-stars. Salad and Main Course: We went with a special fish dish (Halibut), with 2 substitute sides, and a wedge to split. We ordered before 8PM, and as time dragged into the 20 minute mark, I was afraid that our salad would arrive at the same time as our main. While not arriving at exactly the same time, it arrived 30 minutes after being ordered, and just 3-5 minutes before our main, which meant we were still eating our salad when the main arrived. This is a HUGE pet peeve of mine. Figure it out. 1 star The main dish and sides could best be described as disappointing. The fish tasted great, but was a tiny portion: at most, 4 ounces, 1/4 inch thick, and dripping in lemon butter sauce on one edge. The sides were another disappointment. I'm not sure if the bartender was making it up, or if they have in fact changed the way they serve the gratin (or as they pronounce it: "AWE GROTON"). It used to come as a 3-4 inch cube of pan-baked gratin. This night, we received a casserole dish with perhaps 4-6 ounces of potato (a large tablespoon's worth), literally swimming in cream sauce. Fully 2-3 of the dish was cream sauce, when I dragged the potatoes to one end of the dish. 2 stars. Overall thoughts: I understand that the bar was busy, and short-staffed when we arrived. However, by the time we placed our main food order, 50% of the bar, and another 40% of the dining area had cleared out. So, unless our server (bartender) failed to punch our order, I'm at a loss as to why it took so long for the salad and main to arrive. I watched the kitchen as we waited, and they did not look overly busy. Also, I got the feeling that they were just about our of two of the items on our main (halibut and gratin), as they were both served in tiny portions, and at $46, not a value in the least. Additionally, after a disappointing meal, we had to wait another 15 minutes for our bartender to come around to collect payment. In that time, he managed to visit the 4 other couple/groups at the bar at least 3 times each. At most, they have 3-4 truly spectacular items on the menu, many of which can be had at happy hour for nearly 1/2 the price. I think we'll stick to happy hour, and skip the rest of the meal. If I want a steak, I don't think Stoney River, and every time we go, I'm hard-pressed to pick out a main dish. read more

My wife was out of town so I rolled over to Stoney River and sat at the bar for dinner. I was in a frugal mood and order steak and biscuits (maybe $25?) and you get what you pay for in an upscale steakhouse. The menu says the steak is seared, which I would think of as medium rare. The bartender told me "oh no these will be thoroughly cooked". She was right because it was dry. I cook a lot on the grill for groups...I really think these are precooked.
