The service was excellent, the atmosphere was great, the food was disappointing. The last time I visited Stony River was about 3 years ago. They always had great food. This time we ordered the shrimp and grits from the specials menu and the steak salad. The shrimp and grits were so sweet they were hard to finish. I'm not sure if they put full cup of sugar in the dish or what, but they were unpleasant. The steak salad had a dressing that I'm sure was composed of 50% salt. It was drenched over everything. It was so salty we could not finish it. I don't like to complain at restaurants in fear of retaliation, so we just paid the bill and left vowing to ourselves never to return. It's a shame because I remember liking this restaurant a lot pre-Covid. I feel like almost every restaurant in town has cut its quality in half since Covid. read more

We went to Stoney River with a group, six and were pleased they take reservations. The interior space is nice and feels like the kind of place where you have your own space. Our server, Randy, took great care of the group, attended to refilling wine and waters very subtly but regularly, knowledgeable on menu offerings and gave special attention to our birthday celebrant! Rolls arrive warm before the food arrives and they were delicious! The menu has a great variety, more than just steak, though they do have that! There are also several great seafood dishes on the menu as well as daily specials. I ordered the Pan Roasted cold water Salmon: Lemon Beurre Blanc, with garlic mashed potatoes and broccoli. I added a Caesar salad (which honestly was more food than I could eat). The Caesar salad was so good though, I don't regret it. Salmon was outstanding, among the best I've had and the Lemon beurre blanc sauce had such great flavor. Potatoes were good (full disclosure, I'm not a huge mashed potato fan) and had nice flavor. Broccoli was pretty firm, like it had been introduced to the steamer but they didn't talk long. Could be cooked a bit more for my taste but that's a personal call. At the conclusion of the meal our guest of honor was presented with a slice of chocolate fudge cake and a birthday card signed by the staff, a nice touch! We came here to celebrate a birthday-it was a cold evening and we were immediately seated by the fireplace, which was so nice! We had prompt service and our drinks came out quite quickly. We had fun checking out their menu, and there were several different meals ordered at our table. Everyone loved the food (and drink). The filet with coffee coating was amazing, the steak salad was very good, the meatloaf was fantastic, our friend enjoyed the burger very much-and most of us took home boxes of leftovers. The staff presented the birthday boy with a card signed by the staff and a big piece of chocolate cake. I look forward to our next return here! read more

4 Jersey girls took a trip to Tennessee to celebrate my daughter's 21st birthday in Nashville. She chose this restaurant to celebrate and WOW! They really made her feel special. They reserved a quiet table in the corner. Ethan was our server. Not only was he very personable, but he treated us like family. Very sweet and very friendly. Everything he recommended was spot on. My daughter had the double bone pork chop. Beautiful presentation. It cut like butter and melted in your mouth. The other ladies and myself had filet mignon and a ribeye! They were cooked too perfection and full of flavor. We all agree that they were the best steaks we have EVER had. After dinner, we were to stuffed for dessert. Ethan brought over a complimentary slice of chocolate cake with a birthday card signed by all the staff working that night for the birthday girl. We have been in to this location 3 times in as many months. 3 times my husband and I have eaten our meals separately because there was an issue with one of our meals. 1st time an excess of salt that made it inedible, second time the food was stone cold, third time one of the meals was again stone cold. Not sure why a restaurant at this advertised level and cost has so much inconsistency and obvious lack of concern that their customers are eating separately. Very delicious! I was on a business trip and I enjoy eating steak. This restaurant was highly recommended so I decided to stop by. I did not make reservations on the website for some reason it was not working. I called and the staff said no problem. I came to the restaurant and the hostess was very courteous and I was seated within 5 minutes. The waiter was very friendly and professional. Told me about the specials and a few of the dishes he would recommend. The manager even stopped by my table to ask me how I was doing and how was my meal. The noise level was low to average and the atmosphere was semi-laid back (9/10). Great for business meal, date night, or special occasion celebration. The poppy seed rolls were so soft and moist and paired perfectly with the cinnamon butter (10/10). My waiter was constantly checking to see if I needed anything else as my food was being prepared (10/10). My ribeye (medium well) and loaded baked potato was excellent. The exterior of my ribeye had a nice crust while still tender and juicy on the inside. My potato was very fluffy (10/10). I did not order any drinks b/c I don't drink. Perfect temperature, perfect texture, and perfect taste. Served with Twice baked mashed potatoes? Absolutely!! I ate like a king! Fancy dining, though a chain. Stoney River is a steak joint and so I opted for the prime rib. The hunk of cow that arrived was a perfectly cooked piece of steak (12 ounces? It was bigger than that) au jus with a nice fluffy loaded baked potato. There was very little fat to trim from this monster, but I somehow looked down and the entire thing had been consumed. Because I'm a carnivore and that's what carnivores do. I did have the tomato caprese to start. A similarly large portion of nice ripe red tomatoes with lots of fresh tasting mozzarella and a drizzle of a thick balsamic glaze. Yum. The onion straws seemed completely unnecessary other than as a garnish. As for the carrot cake, are you kidding me? The piece that arrived was enough for four adult males. It must have weighed six pounds. I took the rest to go and it still lasted two days. Great service, great food, lovely atmosphere. Stoney River, despite being a chain, is a nice date night or a great spot for a business meeting. I would return. read more

Oh, how I really wanted to love this place. Based on the recommendation from a business associate, I stopped in for dinner on 3/17. When I travel for business, I do like to indulge with a nice steak every once in a while. My driver recommended Cork & Cow, but how can I not take the advise of a business associate? Arrived around 6, and Stoney River has a feel of an upscale Outback. Bar in the center of the dining room, with the kitchen exposed. Glancing at the menu, I did notice that the menu stated Choice or better for the steaks and that caused a bit of a concern. I ordered the wedge salad,the spinach dip, the Bone In Cowboy cut rib-eye, medium-rare, Oscar style, and Au Gratin potatoes. The spinach dip was great, but when I think of flatbread, it's not crackers, which came with the dip. The Wedge Salad was fine, and had plenty of blue cheese dressing. Now for the steak. The steak was dropped off, and usually I am asked to cut into the steak to see how it was cooked. Not a big deal, but once I cut into the steak, I could see why I was probably not asked to do so. The steak was cooked medium-rare, but very fatty. Yes, I know a rib eye is fatty, but I like my rib eye well marbled, not fatty. Yes, their is a difference. The flavor was decent, and I should not have ordered it Oscar style, as the additional enhancement, was not that great. The Au Gratin potatoes were very average, and way to salty for my palate. The great was the cheesecake, and loved the black cherry sauce. My business associate ordered the coffee cured filet, and he loved it.
