As far as the higher end steakhouses on Big Beaver goes, this ranks as the second best in my opinion just below Capital Grille. It's much nicer than Morton's and better than Ruth's Chris as well. The decor and ambiance are warm and welcoming as well as classy and chic. The staff was very attentive from start to finish and our water glasses were never empty. I had the the Cowboy Ribeye with Caramelized Onion Mashed Potatoes and a side of Mac and Cheese. The steak was cooked exactly to my desired temp and was simply seasoned, but was accompanied with an herb butter that gave it an additional kick. Mac and Cheese wise it was probably one of the best I had. Creamy and cheesy with a slight crunch from the bread crumbs. Bot my wife and our friend had Filets and had zero complaints. The Au Gratin Potatoes looked out of this world and our friend said they tasted even better. All in all I highly recommend checking this place out. Also if you're a whiskey drinker try the Samurai. First, the ambience is very nice and welcoming. The waitress we had this evening was slightly rude and impatient. We had a party of nine and when making the reservation we were not made aware of the "one form of payment for the entire group and there is no way to have the ticket split. These made the dinner complicated because everyone did not have cash, and no one was willing to put the entire bill on their credit card, resulting in a couple of us only ordering appetizers, no drinks or entrees. Secondly, after observing other tables with bread and butter, we wondered if we were suppose it to get it at the table or if it had to be ordered because the waitress never offered it. After waiting around 15 minutes for her to resurface, we finally asked for bread for the table... by that time the groups entrees were coming to table. I expected better service from this restaurant, it's not a place I will ever recommend to my friend or family. read more

Delicious food. Staff was okay. Our waiter seemed a little busy, we were there at happy hour so she had a few other tables. The steaks rolls appetizer is a must! They were amazing! My husband got the cowboy cut steak, it was good but not sure the price was worth it. Brussels sprouts were just okay, a little burnt, so they were a little bitter. Came in for Sunday's brunch to celebrate my daughter's 13th birthday. Although the food was excellent, the drinks were amazing! The service was top-tier. The ambience was very settling and comfortable. However after receiving the bill and trying to use a egift card a situation happened where the shift manager at the time accused me of my egift card being fraud. She set the tone ask me to get out of my set and follow her to the computer, although we were signing happy birthday to her I had to step away in order to handle that whatever problem the shift manager was stating . She asked for my phone, and ask who and how did receive egift card! Very strange to me... seeing the person in beside picking up Togo order using gift card didn't have nah problems! I had been meaning to write this for a while, but finally had time. I'll start by saying it is my friend group tradition to eat here before Christmas to celebrate the holidays together. We are a group of moms, so we don't get out much, but love this date. The only reason I'm giving this a 2 is because our waitress was fantastic and kind. Everything else was horrible. All three of us ordered filets medium well. I know "don't go to a restaurant and order a medium well filet." My response is don't offer it medium well if people shouldn't order it. Anyways our three steaks came out all at different temperatures. Mine was perfect. Touch of pink. Friend one more medium. Friend two rare. Waitress kindly takes it back. Manager comes to our table explaining how steak temps work. Yes. Thank you. I have dined out before. We know what steaks look like. Friend two used to work at a steakhouse. 20 minutes later steak comes back out. Still red and almost raw. My and friend one food is Cold because we didn't want to be rude. Manager comes by and manplanes to us for 15 minutes about how steak temps work again and that maybe their lighting makes it look red. I state, "if your theory as to why this $50 steak looks how it does why did we all order it the same temp and all three vary so much in color?" Once again maam it's the lighting. So here we are cold food, way undercooked steak, and a manager who has wasted 30 minutes mansplaning steak temps and restaurant lighting. To compensate the problem dessert was ordered. We ended up eating our cold food with a $200 bill and a pact to never go back. If this appears to be an overreaction it was not. Our waitress came over to us numerous times and apologized about the food and the way the management spoke to us. She said we were not the first table that ran into that on that particular night. This spot has such a cute ambiance. It's clean and modern and is reminiscent of its sister restaurant, J. Alexander. The service was top-notch. The food was good, not great but definitely solid. My bf loved the sweet rolls. They almost reminded me of a small doughnut. The best dish of the night were the steak rolls in my opinion. The last time I went for curbside, I ordered a cheese burger and it was supposed to come with pickles and I assumed it came with lettuce and tomato and when we checked the order, it didn't come with any vegetables. Ordered a carry out because of Covid for my birthday. When my husband brought the rapid pickup home half of the order was not in the bag. So we had one meal and one appetizer. We're missing an appetizer, the other meal and desert. They ruined our plan of having a nice dinner at home. The best way to describe this meal is "Meh". My husband took me here on a Sunday early evening for my birthday, and I was shocked at how busy they were. The first thing that annoyed me was our waitress could not answer any questions regarding the menu; she had no idea what the special vegetable was, and could not understand when I ordered my steak "rare plus". She told me that "rare plus" was not a thing. I have been to some of the most expensive and best steakhouses in NY, and I can promise you, rare plus IS A THING. The bread was absolutely delicious. I would go back just for the bread. They are small rolls that are sweet and are served with a sweet butter. My filet came out with a giant piece of fat on it, which was very confusing. My husband's steak was way over cooked, but we decided not to say anything because our waitress had already given us so much attitude when we asked what the special vegetable was. They were out of the wine that I ordered and he brought me one to sample that I was ok with it. He could've just left it there but he brought me another sample so I could have an option. The ambience was cool calm and collective everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves. We had reservations for 7 we finally sat down about eight we actually started eating dinner about 9. this was my only negative comment about the evening. Our server was named Michaela. Went here for our first wedding anniversary. When making reservation, person on phone asked if we were celebrating anything, which I stated anniversary. She then said she'll mark that down for us. Expecting we'd get a dessert or something, we received nothing and it was not even acknowledged. On to the food. Water pitcher that was brought to the table had a strong soap taste to it. I ordered a steak medium rare, it came out raw. They took it back, and then came out medium. Everything should be temp'd so not sure why it was so difficult to come out at 135 degrees. Was told we'd receive an extra side dish for the trouble, which never came. Received a side of au poivre sauce for the steak. Whatever alcohol they used in it should be flambéed off, which it wasn't, so had a very strong alcohol taste and was inedible. Béarnaise sauce was decent. Server was pleasant. Appetizers were average. Salads were above average. Would not return. Maybe I had unrealistic expectations. read more

Started with the spinach dip appetizer. It was alright, but nothing remarkable. The dinner rolls provided are amazing, they reminded me of cider mill donuts. For my meal I got the steak and biscuits. As the name implies they were small "sandwiches" made out of homemade biscuits and filet. It was tasty, but got too "bready" after awhile. Was too full to try dessert, although the ones I saw throughout the evening looked very good. The Ahi tuna appetizer was amazing, not just because of the beautiful presentation, but the taste was wonderful. Our server, Kyle was so pleasant and helpful. My dinner companion was absolutely thrilled with his suggestion to try the Chef's choice of Grouper. I'd never seen someone has a 'food-gasm' until last night. She was clearly having a religious experience with the fish. My rib eye steak, (although lacking the gorgeous presentation) was an outstanding example of medium rare perfection and melted in my mouth with every bite. Only Ryan Reynolds feeding it to me, could have made it a better experience. The final act was an unsolicited piece of chocolate heaven, disguised as cake that they brought because it was my birthday celebration. As beautifully presented as everything else, it was rich and decadent and made me wish I wasn't too full to finish it. Will I come back here? Absolutely. The only thing inhibiting multiple repeat visits will be the prices. Two cocktails, one appetizer and two entrees was $112. Well worth the price, just not something I can afford more often. Terrible experience from start to finish. Server was serving the bar area and tables and her service was subpar. She forgot to serve our table. All other tables were served bread and drinks but we had to ask for drinks, had to ask where the food was, had to ask for the check. Our Server stood around talking to each other servers and never serviced our table. Our soups and salad came out with the meal. When asked why our salad and soup came out with the meal - server said "it was a twenty minute ticket". (Not even sure what that meant) She was defensive and plain old rude ! I was so excited to try this place! I had been eyeing this restaurant on Yelp for a while and finally made the choice to go here. The service was top notch from the moment we checked in for our reservation to the moment we left. We went on a Saturday night and they were pretty busy at the time. We got seated right away though. The decor is great, very modern, a gorgeous granite bar. I got the 10 oz filet and Au Gratin potatoes. It was delicious! Definitely one of the best filets I've ever had. It was cooked to a perfect mid rare and that garlic butter on top is so flavorful. Our waitress was awesome, the moment a plate was empty someone was there to grab it right away. Drink refills and water were replenished without even asking. The carrot cake is to die for and although it says it's for two, think three or four! It's HUGE! Great ambience. Menu looked amazing--something for everyone. Server was a little slow, which is OK as we were eating during primetime. However, the kitchen forgot the au jus so when my dinner companion asked for it, it took forever. He was almost done with his food by the time it came out. I ordered a Caesar salad with salmon and it was just awful. The salmon tasted spoiled and old. It was just an odd, mushy texture. I couldn't finish it. Our server was almost nonexistent but we were in a hurry so I didn't bother asking to talk to the manager. Great atmosphere, but the food won't have me coming back unfortunately. read more

Tried this place for the first time last night and will gladly return. The building is beautifully decorated and very clean. The staff was professional, courteous and provided exceptional service. The food was fantastic to say the least. I had the French onion soup and trio of filet medallions.. everything was perfectly cooked and well seasoned. Bernaise sauce was great, but the blue cheese crumble was amazing! Have to be a big blue cheese fan because it packs a strong flavor. Also, they have these dinner rolls that are to die for. They are dense, sweet, soft on the inside, slightly crispy on the outside, poppy seed rolls.. and they are fanTAStic!! So let me say that there are many restaurants in Troy, especially neighboring this place that are far superior BUT this is still a good place. I saw this place being built for a while and drove past it regularly. This past Sunday I was going to have dinner at Capital Grille in Troy and passed this place thinking I should try it now that its open, and as I tried opening the door to Capital Grille I realized they don't open until 5, so I headed here for the first time. The parking lot is confusing to get to, there isn't a direct entrance, I had to go through the Columbia center entrance - no big deal it is what it is. It's about 4 PM at this point and its slightly warm inside but not hot - I imagine when its crowded its very hot inside. The decor is nicely done, its a very casual restaurant, I wouldn't feel the need to 'dress up' to go here at all. A polo shirt and khakis would suffice. They had a nice wine and champagne list although almost everything was by the bottle, not glass. The cocktail list could use some revamping. We were seated immediately, and out of the whole restaurant thats empty they put us next to a loud party of 10. Once seated it took a while to get greeted, a busboy presumably came over and got our waters and told us our waiter would be with us shortly. He brought Sprite instead of soda water but my still water was fine. The brought us bread which isn't very good. They bring 4 small rolls that taste sweet, almost doughnut like. We each had 1 and gave the rest back, they were not good. Our food came quickly once we ordered and it was very good and plentiful. I got the bistro chicken but I substituted the garlic whipped potatoes for parmesan fries and I wish I hadn't, it also came with broccoli that wasn't cooked fully. My partner got a NY strip and baked potato - all was good on his end. My chicken came with 3 pieces which was surprising but nice. The wine we decided on was actually out so we ordered a different one which was fine. The waitress was prompt and friendly as well. Now to the negatives, upon walking up the chef and another worker were outside smoking, and theres no smoking signs on the door even. Not sure why the employees don't have to follow their own rules - and as a NON smoker I find the smell off-putting, hopefully they washed their hands. The menus needed a serious cleaning - absolutely dirty and gross. The bathroom was clean but there was water on the counters - somebody should be keeping those wiped. They also have a bunch of spots taken up for veterans/military personnel. That doesn't bother me at all, its just odd to see. read more
