I celebrated a family member's birthday here a few days ago and we had a lovely time. The restaurant is beautiful and it reminded me very much of J. Alexander's, turns out it's the same company. The servers were very friendly, but you can tell their new servers, still getting to know the menu. Either way, everyone received what they ordered. We tried the deviled eggs which were very delicious, same as J. Alexander's. For my entree, I ordered the pan-crusted lemon chicken and it was so mouth-watering. I always look for a chicken Milanese with a lemon piccata type sauce, nothing out of the ordinary, but no one serves such a dish. Well, now I know I can find it here. The chicken was pounded super thin and I can't wait to have it again. The creme brûlée needs some work. It had a pasty texture, not smooth as a creme brûlée should be. read more

Service started out very spotty with our martini sitting in the bar for 10 minutes waiting for the server to return- requiring us to go to the bar to ask where our drinks were and ask it be remade because no one wants a tepid martini. Bartender was very nice and delivered the new drink personally- waitress didn't even address the issue. Calamari appetizer was over cooked too crispy and salty. Tuna tower was good and fresh. We asked about what came with the ahi dinner and was told mozzarella stuffed tomatoes and sautéed spinach. Really? With Ahi? We asked again and she said just shrugged and offered "well what would you want?" Very unhelpful...Ordered halibut special instead which was decent but way too much sauce. I went to STK in Atlanta. Got a tomahawk. It was weak as hell. Came back home to Detroit. In need of a tomahawk. So I got one from here. It was pure bliss. Best Tomahawk I've had from a restaurant. This is our new favorite steak house in town! The level of service is phenomenal. From the minute you walk in you are welcomed by smiling hosts. The ambiance is cozy and inviting with dimmed lighting for dinner. Our waitress was one of the best parts of our visit, Carissa was kind, knowledgeable, and genuine. She made us feel comfortable. It was our anniversary and there was an anniversary card on the table! What a special touch. The manger- Eric- was amazing as well. Periodically checking in with us to make sure our experience and quality of food was up to par. With experiences like this, we will be sure to visit again often. Recommendations: 1. Stacked tuna 2. Let me start by saying I made a huge mistake. I wanted steak, but read a review that I should get the steak rolls instead, but steak rolls are deep fried, I should of just went for the filet. Exceptionally high quality, consistent and awesome service. We have been there five times now. We always sit at the bar and Kathy is our favorite bartender. She's knowledgeable, funny and gives impeccable service. We have had every appetizer. They are all outstanding. Our favorites are the tuna stack and the crab cake. (We love seafood apps, but they are all really good.) we've had both soups, the bisque is amazing and very rich. The chicken tortilla soup is equally good and so fresh tasting. We have also had the the prime rib sandwich and the French dip. Equally outstanding! It gets busy by 5:30 on a Saturday so plan accordingly. Great place for a date night. Highly recommend! read more

I'd give this place a 3 on it's very best day. It quite simply is nothing special. The service is very lackluster. I got seated and was greeted instantly, then wasn't seen again for another ten minutes. I had two servers, one was weird and the other was very obviously fake. I wanted to be a little adventurous and decided to get an appetizer. I got the steak rolls-shredded beef in an egg roll. Tldr on that, don't get it. It's not good. I went with the prime rib sandwich for my entree. The prime rib was delicious, but everything else was woeful. The fries are not good and same with the bed that came with the sandwich. My huge complaint is that they came out at the same time. Why would I get an appetizer then? The bill comes on a silver plater. A little weird and the smudge marks are massive. Not a big fan of that. Went to this place for the 1st time a couple nights ago and it was extremely disappointing, it may be because they are just reopening after this pandemic but at those prices if it's not up to standard it shouldn't be served. Service was slow, started off with some drinks and I had a glass of Prosecco which was warm - when I told the waitress my champagne was warm she apologized and brought me another warm glass of champagne, which I just put ice in at that point. We all ordered the Filet; when we received the filets they were all cooked wrong (3 filets) mine was still alive and I requested a medium steak, also the medium well was rare. Took a while to get our steaks back and at that point they were all well done; the steaks seriously lacked in flavor and were extremely fatty! I recently bought some filets at Costco, cooked them up at home and the flavor beat these steaks by a long shot, not to mention a filet shouldn't have ANY FAT! Came here for my birthday with the family. Literally how is none of the food good? My medium rare steak tasted like char, the potatoes had no flavor and started to feel sick after the lobster bisque. On Mon, April 10th my sisters and I came here for lunch. There were 6 of us so we split the bill. 5 of us paid cash and 1 paid with a card. As we were walking out the door we were chased out by management and got accused of not paying our bill. We are unsure if the server pocketed the cash or misplaced it. John the gm mentioned that they had cameras so we asked him to review the footage and then he said they were only in the bar. Regardless, we treated very poorly and were told not come back. John threatened us after I mentioned hiring an attorney and said "See what I'll do to you." We have been regulars at this restaurant since it opened and the waitstaff knows us however after the were treated we will not be coming back. read more

Upon entering and then taking our seats, I felt there was something familiar about this establishment. Then a quick glance at the menu and it solidified my suspicions. This company is in fact an affiliate if J Alexander's. Higher end offerings no doubt. Our server Sway was awesome. Such a nice lad. There was 6 of us dinning for dinner celebrating my moms birthday. Tried the deviled eggs which were exactly like J Alexander's, loved them. The tuna stack was good but I have had better at Ocean Prime down the road. For my entree I ordered the chicken which came with a lemon caper sauce and French green beans. It was fantastic. Upon being seated they gave my mom a hand signed birthday card which was a nice touch. For desert they presented her with a slice of chocolate tort. We also ordered Crème brûlée and the carrot cake. Their French press coffee was good too and more than enough for two people to share. It was a nice evening with no major complaints. Only two small complaints I have are some of the food runners are not trained very well because they kept serving the wrong plates to all of us which caused us to shuffle and pass them to each other, so they need to brush up on understanding seat numbers to make sure each guest receives the correct plate. Also, the bread that is served are deep fried unsweetened donuts, they were greasy and no one ate them. They need a better option for bread. No one wants to spread butter on a donut. Underwhelming. Made reservations for dinner on a Thursday out of recommendations from friends. Experience was mediocre. A nice environment and aura, but I think vibe of the staff needs to be worked on. There was no host or hostess at the front for over five minutes and there were five people waiting to be helped. Other servers and bartenders just looked on and glanced at us and didn't notify any other staff. Finally we were sat. Ambiance is nice. Frank serviced us and it was his first week there and he was not able to answer many questions. He often looked at us, but didn't actually come to the table more than twice to check on us. Ahi tuna appetizer was pretty good. Bread was given and a yummy cinnamon butter came with. My martini was a bit too strong and I'm usually a strong cocktail kind of gal. I had to sip water with every taste. I had to ask for water thrice as Frank repeatedly forgot. Server recommended a beer which my husband did not completely enjoy. I ordered the scallops and the whole dish was great except the sautéed spinach. It was so. So. So. Salty. So salty. I wanted to send it back, but Frank seemed frazzled with two other tables. Otherwise the scallops, the sauce, and the tomato and mozzarella paired well. Husband ordered the ribeye and it was well made. Sides could've been more bigger though. Best thing about the place is the carrot cake. I have never had such an amazing carrot cake l. I ordered it to go and ate it by myself for three days. Came Here on a Friday night and we were seated immediately. Our waitress came to our table promptly answered I ordered a lemon drop martini with Tito's and hubs ordered a regular Tito's martini. Both were excellent. We were served unexpected donut like rolls with cinnamon butter. They oddly delicious. Dinner was a ribeye (medium) with fries and the bistro chicken with a side of garlic mashed potatoes. He also ordered the tortilla soup and I had the house salad. The soup and salad were $6 each and given the amount served could have easily charged 50-100% more. Both were excellent. The ribeye was as good, if not better, than most steakhouses. Cooked perfectly, seasoned correctly and the garlic butter on top was a bonus. Tons of flavor. The bistro chicken has three breasts and a creamy piccata sauce. It was very tasty though the chef used too much salt throughout that was heavily impacted due to the saltiness of the Parmesan cheese and capers. We would order both again. I wish we could review the desserts but the meal was huge and well worth the price (which was not all that expensive to begin with) Knocked down a star due to the extreme lack of lighting. read more

Upon arrival, You can smell the food from outside when approaching to entrance. The steaks are fairly priced and cooked well. We enjoyed the meal. My fiancé and I went to Stoney River for our 2 year anniversary. When we made the reservation they asked if we were celebrating anything special. I told them an anniversary and when we arrived, we had a hand written congratulations card signed by all staff working that night. It was the nicest surprise. The manager also brought up a complimentary glass of champagne at the end of our meal. We both had a soup followed by a filet and they were absolutely delicious. It's been more than a year since we've been here. Not sure what happened to this place. Was there a change of ownership? This use to be one of the go to places our family loves to go to. The first thing we notice was the wait staff. Our server was not so attentive or friendly. The greeters were not so welcoming either. The whole experience of being pampered was not there. The food was so salty and served almost cold. The presentation was not very appealing. We were so disappointed because we came to celebrate my wife's birthday and she wanted to come here. This is a steakhouse that I have recommended to others since first trying it roughly two months ago. I would have likely continued to do so, if it weren't for the absolute lack of accommodation that was received when trying to plan my brother's birthday dinner. It is a family tradition that we each pick our favorite steakhouse for our birthday dinner - usually a rotation of Capital Grille, Eddie Merlot, Ruth's Chris, or Mortons (mentioned previously). It should be a compliment that my routine-loving, die-hard Ruth's Chris fan brother decided to give the new kid on the block (Stoney River) a chance this year. However, that opportunity was quickly taken from us when we were told they cannot accommodate our party of thirteen guests. Upon trying to understand rationale via phone call, it was learned that we were not speaking to a perhaps uninformed employee, but in fact the manager of the establishment. Complete disinterest in accommodation. During the visit that prompted my first review, we had eight people in our party. They had slid a few of their half booth/half chair tables together before our arrival, and we actually ended up with 3 unused spots. Essentially, our table could have sat 11, generously. I find it hard to believe that they would be unable to slide one more of the vast number of booth-row tables down to accommodate 2 more individuals. If the restaurant was genuinely organized in a way which would make this task impossible, or even largely burdensome, I would likely understand. However, being fully aware that this is not the case, a sour taste for this establishment has been left in the mouths of the thirteen family members. Combined with the other noted "cons" mentioned in my first review, there is little reason for me, my family members, or peers whom I share this experience with to return to Stoney River. read more
