My friends and I stopped by Stormbreaker Brewing to check out RageRoomPDX. It was so much fun. We had an opportunity to let our rage out by breaking several crates of glass bottles . The fella that got us step up in the Rage Room was friendly and informative. Afterwards we had lunch at the brewery. The food was okay, but it kind of lacked flavor. Stopped by after a hike in Forest Park - with our dog. We specifically came for the outdoor patio - and we were the only people outside (it was also like 40 F outside. There is quite a bit of room on the outside patio, community tables though so keep that in mind. Service was good, the bartender was the server for the patio on the day we visited. We didn't see her a ton, but that was fine with us - when we did she was friendly and helpful. We got their veggie burger with fries, and the black bean quesadilla. The veggie burger was excellent (it's a Field Roast patty), the fries were ahhh-mazing and tasty. The quesadilla had SO much cheese it had all glopped together on the plate, and I had to eat it with a knife a fork. Now if you've read any of my reviews, there is no such things as too much cheese (normally). This. had. too. much. cheese. I could not separate the slices of the quesadilla, at all. It was like a multilayer pizza. The only problem, aside from my waistline, is that with THAT much cheese all I tasted was cheese. Couldn't taste the beans, tortilla, pico - just cheese. So I drowned it in cholula just to get something out of it. Perhaps it was an off day - and again, I wouldn't normally ding something with too much cheese - but geeeez. read more

Stopped by for lunch recently, will not be rushing back for food. I do not recommend their fried chicken sandwich. It looked good on the plate and on the menu however it was the most difficult thing to eat ever. The coleslaw is very wet and made everything in the sandwich slide around. It also dripped tons of coleslaw juice that was tinged purple from the cabbage. The meat and breading was under-seasoned, bland, and the breading quickly fell off in chunks because it was soggy from the slaw. The pretzel was served nice and hot, and was tasty with the beer cheese however they forgot the mustard. Service was friendly, no complaints there. Also, my husband enjoyed the beer on draft so perhaps we will come back if in the neighborhood just for the beer. By the way, if anyone reading this is a fried chicken sandwich enthusiast I recommend going to Grand Fir Brewing off SE Stark St. for theirs, it's hard to beat. read more

Yummy food, but it gave me food poisoning! I never ever get sick from food, but their fish and chips did not sit well with my stomach. I went with 4 friends, and 3 of us ordered the fish and chips. It was a pleasant return going back to Stormbreaker, this time at the St. John location and we got and enjoyed the What We Brew In The Shadows which is a New Zealand Pilsner which Steve and I really enjoyed. It's referencing the movie and perhaps the show, What We Do In The Shadows. Flavor features with this pilsner are crisp, bready and nutty flavors. The crispness gives the pilsner a very refreshing quality to it and is a pleasant, light beer to enjoy and to relax and kick back with. Stormbreaker maintains our positive impression with it with this pleasant pilsner. read more

But the vibes were right and the Doobie Brothers were a'callin', so we slipped into one of the outdoor booths at Stormbreaker for a bit of sipping, noshing, and people watching. McKenzie was the best host, and helped me navigate the (widely reviled, BTW) QR Code menu, and we talked about their recent wins in the beer world. The food is ALWAYS, and I mean ALWAYS fresh, plentiful, and cooked to perfection. This includes even the delivered food I order on occasion. This time I had an 'Italians Do It Better' sandwich and a side salad. Let me be clear, 'side salad' usually means a handful of dingy iceberg and shredded carrots - but not at Stormbreaker. Their side salads are sizable, crisp, and come with fresh toppings. Maybe it was the weather, maybe it was the Led Zeppelin, CCR, or David Bowie, but a leisurely repast at Stormbreaker on a Friday afternoon was the perfect way to start the weekend! read more

Every time I come back I'm more disappointed than the last. Really wanted to enjoy the lovely warm day on the patio, was greeted promptly and told to sit anywhere on the patio, and that my server would be right over. 10 minutes go by, the server walks by me three times and helps other tables, doesn't even look my way. Another server comes over and asks if I'd been helped and I said no, and they took my order. A few minutes later the server I had seen who had ignored me comes over and asks to take my order and I let them know someone else had already taken it. They got visibly upset and asked who, I have them a description and the server says "she's not a server...I will take your order..."...ummm. What? Ok. Give the server the same order. A few minutes after that the first person comes back and I let them know when they gave me my drink that the server had told me that they weren't a server and had taken my order instead. I was told "we all work here it's all the same." Yikes. Umm. Why do people keep treating me like I'm the problem instead of addressing the actual issue?? I was ignored for 10+ minutes, finally an order taken, first server upset my order was taken (likely bc they missed me/forgot about me/ignored me), and I observed two other tables having the same issue. Sitting there with empty glasses and plates looking around for the server. I asked to speak to the manager after I had finished and lo and behold it was the second "not server" who had dismissed me when I told them about the server saying the other person couldn't/shouldn't have taken my order. While you were very nice when we spoke the second time, you had completely dismissed me the first time and I was genuinely uncomfortable. I shouldn't be caught in between y'all's obvious issues of service. Sorry but...every time I come here it's some new decline that makes me sad. Came here on a Sunday evening and sat on the patio with a group of 6. We weren't sure if we were going to order food so we started with drinks. Being preggo, I was excited that they had a large selection of nonalcoholic cocktails and beer! The mocktails were inventive and the NA beer I tried was fantastic. Last minute, we decided to stay for dinner and were able to place our order 1 minute before the kitchen closed for dinner and switched to the late night menu. StormBreaker has the BEST Beers! They have a wide selection, and they all are done really well. They are not wishy-washy. Very exquisite and palatable. Their food is fine, mediocre at best. That was the same level before the pandemic, and during the pandemic, so I guess i can't really expect their food to improve. But, it would have been nice to have it be a notch or two higher.Their Big Warm Pretzel might* be microwaved, but that is quite the accusation to make! Stormbreaker brewing is awesome! The brewery has a great outdoor patio and has blocked off one of the alley streets to allowed for plenty of nice outdoor seating. Our server was fantastic. I ordered the (adorable) flight and gave her a description of what I like and she chose the beers for me. We also loved all of the cocktails they have. I LOVE that this brewery has such a great cocktail menu. There is really something for everyone. The food was also 10/10. We loved the nachos and onion rings. My only critique is that I really wish they sold the flight stands that look like St Johns bridge. As a St Johns resident I would freaking kill to have one of these in my home bar :) read more

Nice little brewery in the heart of St Johns with an outdoor porch and big inside with bench seating. We stopped to get a cider after a hike from Forest park, which took us over the bridge (great view by the way). They have a good selection of beers and ciders, and an excellent French cider, which reminded me of my favorite Cidre Bouche by 2 Towns. Aval cidre was very similar in taste and style, keeved, spiced apple, full flavored, and fresh. Not as effervescent as Cidre Bouche but a few dollars cheaper even though it's imported, so that's a plus. The outdoor seating curbside can be a bit noisy with buses passing by but it's uncovered and when there's nice weather you get all of the sun. Perfect for an afternoon pick me up and sunny weather spot to relax. read more

They offer 2 1/4lb patties that are completely overcooked - why not try a half lb and give folks a choice. The service is always mediocre - friendly but mediocre. The drinks are overpriced for St Johns and seem to miss the mark every time. Too thick, not the right notes. I ordered a tea drink that was advertised as being served in a pint glass. It was not. The atmosphere is meh as well - but my god do they have a lot of great seating options outside. Nowhere for the black hearted among us to smoke though, not very St Johns. So as it stands, I go to Mcmenimans Pub and Cinema instead and I no longer have dreams of finding my future partner through my window's view at closing time. read more

TL;DR: Great service, good drinks, but AVOID this place for food. Let's start with the good to get that out of the way. Our wait staff was very attentive, polite and friendly. Our waitress did everything she could to give us a good experience, and it was going very well until our food came. The drinks were also good. There is a wide selection of beers and spirits to drink. My girlfriend tried multiple beers (with mixed reviews but everybody is different) and I had the Pear Rickey. My drink was very tasty, but I felt like it was a little light on the gin. That's far from a deal breaker, though. The atmosphere was also very nice, with a pretty typical brewery vibe. But now on to the bad... If you read nothing else, just understand that the level of blase in which the kitchen staff treated our food was simply unprofessional and unacceptable. I ordered the Portland Pyre Pile burger. My girlfriend ordered the Juicy Lucy. For starters, it took approximately 75 minutes to receive our food after ordering. Maybe 30 or 45 minutes into the wait, our waitress let us know that the kitchen was backed up, so we could've (and in hindsight, should've) left if we did not want to wait. When we did receive our food, it was cold. The burgers were lukewarm and the fries were mostly hard. My Portland Pyre Pile burger was fine. Not as spicy as I expected, but the flavors were there and the burgers themselves, though cooked unevenly, were good enough not to ruin the meal. I would give it 3/5 stars, because it wasn't much beyond average. The Juicy Lucy is where the problems were... Upon receiving her Juicy Lucy, my girlfriend picked up the burger, and an appalling amount grease proceeded to drain off of the burger and through the bun. THROUGH the bun. I'm Minnesotan (home of the original Juicy Lucy), so I know that they can be greasier than an average burger. But the amounts of grease that ran off of my girlfriend's burger were flatly unappetizing and unappealing. Squeezing the bottom bun was like wringing out a wet towel... The puddle of grease pool at the bottom of her basket quickly became a pool. It was so bad that the guy at the table next to us winced in disgust and couldn't stop staring.... Our waitress was there to ask us of everything looked alright very soon after our food arrived, so we showed her the lake of grease and asked that it be returned to the kitchen. She agreed that it was very unappealing, and immediately brought it back. When my girlfriend received her burger a few minutes later, it was sitting on a new bun, but in the same grease-covered basket that we sent it back in. We could tell that someone took less than a second to wipe some of the grease out of the bottom, where the burger was placed, but they decided not to bother with getting all of the grease, nor to even check to see if the fries were still in good condition (spoiler: anything at the bottom of the basket was soaked in dark brown grease.) So when the burger was returned to us it was much less greasy, but still sitting on top of the old grease. The fries hadn't been fixed at all. To top it off, the Juicy Lucy was so hastily thrown back together that half of the toppings were on the burger and half had slumped onto the basket. But we tried eating it. We shouldn't have, but we did. And it was the saddest Juicy Lucy I have ever seen. The cheese in the middle was completely solid, as of it had cooled almost to room temperature again. And the amount of cheese inside the burger was pathetic. I've seen McDonald's quarter pounders with more cheese than that "Juicy Lucy." My girlfriend ate what she could, and has regretted it since. If a kitchen is unwilling to completely fix such an obvious error, it is either unprofessional, undisciplined, uncaring, or some combination of the three. I understand that kitchens have bad nights, but the least they could do after making us wait over an hour is get our food right the second time. To anybody that has made it this far, I would highly recommend against eating at this establishment. If you come for the drinks, you will leave pleased. Had we visited without eating, I probably would've rated StormBreaker at least a 4/5 stars. But the food and the kitchen staff ruined that. I would rate them negative stars if I could. It has been years since I've seen a meal so royally messed up, and I have NEVER seen a food issue "resolved" with such a lack of pride and effort. I think it is a bit obvious to say that we will never be returning, and we both will be happy to share our experience with friends and family. To the wait staff that helped us all night, this review is not a reflection on you. The service you provided was easily 5/5 stars. But a restaurant has to be judged on it's food above all else, and nothing could make up for the abysmal performance of the kitchen tonight. read more

Just stopped by for some beer and a snack. My beer flight was pretty tasty. I felt like everything was pretty solid. My favorites were the Cloud Ripper, Pinot Tart, and Guava Man. I didn't find the Screenbreaker very flavorful, but that might have been in context of the other ones. Their flight tray was pretty neat, and a nice homage to the St. John's bridge. For my snack, I got the spiced peanuts, and they were really good. I liked the spice mixture and the savory-sweet balance. They were really addictive, and you get quite the hefty bowl. read more
