On 12-08-15 The technician was late, there was people waiting and he did not helped people on the order they arrived. He was angry because his favorite parking spot was not available and proceeded to be abusive towards me because my van was parked not to his convenience. Made it clear that I was the first to arrive but still decided to help someone else just because he was angry. This was my first time ever going for a smog check. I bought my car last year and is a 2000 new beetle. The technician served me quickly. He seemed rude at ordering me what to do with the car and talked to me like I knew what to do, while I didn't. He then was rude asking me if I speak English. I actually do, but I had troubles understanding his accent. He also asked me irrelevant personal questions. He ran all tests and then he revved the engine some times and asked me if I see lots of smoke, which I do not see. Only some white smoke was coming out when he accelerated a lot on pushing on the pedals. Then he failed my test for visual inspection. He even wrote tampered catalyst as if he even looked at it. All other test passed. I read on DMV that a car can fail visual test only if there is black or blue smoke coming out. "visual test, the inspector will check for any blue or black smoke emitting from the tailpipe. As long as there is no blue or black exhaust, the vehicle passes this part of the exam." Located next to a 76 they have a sign posted "If you fail it's free." They charge $55 which is reasonable. The prices varies depending on the size of your car. I've seen other places charge more with the certificate costing an additional $7. It took about 30 min. The Grand Century mall is nearby which is a Vietnamese shopping center. I stopped there for lunch and when I got back it was done. Note: This is a test only center they don't perform any repairs. read more

Just popped in as I urgently needed a smog test completed. Can't really complain about anything: it was fast, the price was in line with other places, and I didn't have to wait too long. Plus I was entertained by some old guy driving through, asking about getting his car smogged, backing up with his door wide open and hitting the car of the guy doing the slogging, the guy driving sat there trying to close his door with it jammed into the other car, then he finally pulled forwarded really fast and hit a steel pole, then backed up again to get out and look at the car, never went to the shop guy, and then he just drove away. Even more amusing was the shop guy's response when I told him that guy hit his car and he just waved his hand dismissively and said something like it didn't matter because his car was old! They are very selective about what cars they test. I brought one car in and told the gentleman that I had another older car as well and if that would be a problem even though it failed at another station. He said no problem. After testing my first car I bought in my other car the next day. I was told because my car failed somewhere else they were locked out and could not test the car. Then after I called him out on this lie he changed the story and still did not want to test the car because it is older and has lots of millage. He said it would fail and waste his time. My car has passed this test before but had sat for most of the year leading to the failure this year. I was told to just change the oil , and run it for a while then re-test as it barely failed at Idle and passed all other testing. This station would not re-test the car and is very selective and will make up reasons not to test. I also saw this person tell someone else he was to busy to re-test his car and come back another day. That was around 1pm in the afternoon with plenty of time for the person to get in line and re-test. This place is not good for any older cars as the "do not pay if it does not pass" only applies to cars they select for testing. If your car is older and /or has failed in the past at another station they will not test. read more

Absolute jerk employee. Go here if you want to be treated like trash. I brought my car in from out of state so I haven't done a smog check before. Despite there being no one else in line this guy is super rushing me even though I have not done this before. I figure, "okay maybe this means that this guy will work super fast" so I'm still in a good mood. He has a super thick accent and asks something about 'check engine.' I assume he is asking if I have had the engine looked at recently and I respond I didn't. He gives me paper work to fill out and I start until he starts yelling at me. I've taken my Honda Civic sedan here twice to get a smog test. It looks like the rate for a sedan or smaller is $55. Also, this is a STAR certified smog station, according to http://www.smogcheck.ca.gov/. The station is a garage attached to a 76 gas station. All the smog equipment is on the left side and the tester's "office", which is just a desk and some waiting chairs, is on the right. The tester does a very quick and good job with the smog test. He works in a very careful and safe manner. The entire test takes about 10 to 20 minutes. However, it's the line and wait that will eat up your time. Not much else to say other than this place is cheap and good. I'll continue to come here for my smog tests. read more

DON'T GO HERE! This place is absolutely HORRIBLE and I'll tell you why! I have a 1995 corolla and recently had to get a smog test done. I went to this place and quickly realized the person is selective about who he does smog tests for because if you've got an older car, chances are he'll tell you some bull-shit to get you off his back because he does not want to test your car and not get paid if it might fail! This is illegal because he cannot discriminate between customers and next weekend I'll take the time to report him to the Bureau of Automotive Repair. CASE IN POINT: 1. WASTED 1 HOUR OF MY TIME - I took my car to here to get tested and first the guy does a visual inspection; asks me about why I have a new oxygen sensor and I tell him I had to get it replaced. OK. Next he looks under the car as asks "what's going on underneath?" and then says my car has two catalytic converters which is illegal in California (I bought this car from someone else). I don't know much about cars so I say alright I'll get it fixed. I go to a mechanic and he look under the car and says smog guy doesn't know what he's talking about -- the three things in my exhaust system are a standard catalytic converter, a resonator (not a catalytic converter), and a muffler. Now I'm seriously pissed at the smog guy - he's WASTED 2 HOUR OF MY TIME so far. 2. I go back to this eff-ed up place to prove my point. Smog guy asks if I've gotten rid of the second catalytic converter and I tell him he's either full of shit and doesn't know what he's talking about or he intentionally tried to get me gone. (by the way, I had to wait 20 minutes and watched him dismiss three other people before me by lying about why their car might fail and telling the to go get all kinds of stuff fixed.) So anyway, he says "OK" and then looks under the hood and points out that oxygen sensor again and says "this is an issue because it's not the original one". Well guess what - it's a high-quality sensor I had bought and replaced 6 months ago and this guy is asking for a receipt to prove it's authentic. Like seriously who the f**k is this guy? His job is to do a smog check - and he doesn't want to do it. Lazy as f**k if you ask me. He says he won't test the car. I TELL HIM I'M GOING TO REPORT HIM TO BAR AND I NEED HIS STATION NUMBER AND OTHER DETAILS. HE SAYS "NO" so I leave. 3 HOURS WASTED SO FAR. 3. I now have found the details I need to report him and I'M GOING TO CARVE OUT 2 MORE HOURS out of my weekend to make sure I report him to BAR. This is the kind of business that needs to be shut down. read more
