Came here to try and get a smog done, I have an OBD1 vehicle and was sent home 4 times all for different reasons, "the person who does it isn't here and we're too busy" etc. One of the workers specifically told me to come back Saturday morning just for them to send me away again because they "don't feel like using that machine." I've been to this location many times so I tried to give them the benefit of the doubt before this review, but ultimately I'm just really upset that they wasted my time, had they stated that from the beginning I would've just found a different place no problem. read more

Happy Smog is run by 2 technicians who are very knowledgeable and do a great job of getting you in and out quickly. No appointment is necessary, and they have ample parking in front of their unit. I just got back from getting a smog check. I was quoted on Yelp... $40 out the door. When I arrived, the guy tried to explain its $40 for the exam and $9 for the certificate. He tried to argue with me that a certificate charge was mandatory. So how is this $40 out the door? Classic bait and switch. I was quoted by other companies where including the certificate, it was $40 or under. I would definitely shop around as there's places that do it nearby for cheaper. Not only was his attitude unwelcoming, but they should honor the quoted prices. The next time I need a smog, I'll be going elsewhere. Your business runs on customers, do better. I requested a quote for a STAR smog check via Yelp on a Sunday when they're closed. I was surprised to receive a very fast response from a lady named Phuong. It was $40 flat, including all taxes and fees which is competitive. It was drop-in only. So I went the next morning (Monday) around 9:55am. It was easy to find. I like that there was enough parking considering a lot of auto shop parking lots tend to be super cramped. There was an older gentleman who greeted me. His English isn't the best but it wasn't a problem! He was nice and helpful. I was in a rush to make it to another appointment, so I requested we be done by 10:30am-10:40am at the latest, otherwise I'd have to come back later. He did his best to accommodate me despite there being two cars ahead of me. He kept me posted on timing which was nice. There was another gentleman doing the smog checks. Together, they both gave clear instructions on where to park, opening windows (for ventilation during COVID I imagine), etc. I pulled up at 10:30am and we were done with the check and payment by 10:40am - right on time!! There is practically no customer service here. They instructed me to move my car around the lot multiple times and roll down all windows (because it was hot). When I was finally next, they had me line up my car facing the wrong direction of the one way parking lot. During the actual SMOG, they made me open the hood and fuel cap. I replied that I would pay $40 out the door, even though I could get it slightly cheaper elsewhere (that was a true statement). They agreed to the $40. When I got there, a couple of cars were ahead of me, but the wait was not long. Two guys working there, and they got all of us in and out quickly. The total cost was $40 out the door. Nice place to bring your car for a smog check around East foothills. The owner is very helpful and give some tips if your car would not pass smog check. Normally you can grab a coupon and it would cost something around $40 with free retest which is pretty good price for a smog check only. I highly recommend this place. Normally it's hard to find a good service around East San Jose but this place is trustful, the owner is very careful with cars and courteous. I was very satisfied last time I've been there and would not hesitate to bring my Porsche again. Test normally takes about 20-30 minutes, there is an office where you can wait.
