After waiting way too long, they told me my car didn't pass and that I just needed to "keep driving it" before coming back--without explaining why or how far I needed to drive. When I asked questions, they gave vague answers and seemed annoyed. Total waste of time and money. If you want clear communication and decent customer service, go somewhere else. read more

I had a very frustrating experience at this smog station. After waiting over half an hour, the technician told me my car wouldn't pass and claimed my catalytic converters had been stolen or removed. This came as a complete shock to me. I did have a custom exhaust system put in over 3 years ago but have had no issues. To verify, I called the muffler shop that originally did the work. The owner assured me that he never removes catalytic converters (because it's illegal) and invited me to bring the car in so he could put it on the rack and show me everything was intact. Instead, I decided to get a second opinion at a different smog station. I explained what had happened and the new technician immediately looked under the hood, pointed out one of the catalytic converters, then went under the car and confirmed both were absolutely present. He went ahead with the smog test--and my car passed without any issues. This experience left me feeling like the first smog station either didn't know what they were doing or tried to mislead me. Either way, it cost me time, stress, and unnecessary doubt. I would not recommend this place and suggest getting a second opinion if something doesn't sound right. read more

I realized my vehicle registration had expired and was desperately looking for a STAR-certified smog place so I could get that fixed ASAP. I called the shop and they explained their service and the cost, including mentioning a $20 off promo they had. It was super easy to find and easy to get into. There was no line at the time so they took care of me right away and finished my smog test in less than 10min. Not only that--but I was able to pay the registration + a fee and was able to get my new registration paperwork printed out on the spot, including my updated tags! I just had my car smogged at Smog Hut 2 weeks ago. I've been going to Smog Hut for smog certification since I bought my Toyota Rav in 2010. It has always been a simple and quick process. The business is small, but consistently open, always good and fast service. The waiting room is small, but there is usually only one or two other people in the waiting room. Great location (right off of the 880 & 101 interchange on 4th Street at Gish) And if you have procrastinated, and need to get your tags in a hurry, so a small price, they are able to give you the tags on the spot! Hugo saved the day! Found out that my car was due it's first smog the day before registration was due to be renewed. Called Smog Hut, they told me the price, how long it would take and how many cars were currently being serviced (2). The whole thing took 15-20. Afterwards, I was surprised that it passed the visual but gave an OBD issue. Hugo asked if I'd had the car recently serviced. I'd just had a service the prior day so he recommended driving 100 - 150 miles of freeway driving with no traffic. I waited until the evening when roads would be clear and went down to 101 and turned around to get enough mileage that the OBS sensors. Came back the next morning and everything passed. I was able to get the new registration and sticker right there at Smog Hut after the test. Will definitely be going back here in the future! read more

This is not a camper and this covering has been on the truck no issue for some reason this inspector is disqualifying vehicles when things are not what he describes them as a covering of corrugated metal is not a camper and he would not smog due to a metal covering read more

I have a 2004 Hyundai Santa Fe and was having a tough time getting it to pass smog. I failed at another station, took it to my mechanic who found nothing wrong, and told me to try another station. I was refused service at a 2nd station, so I called the Bureau of Automotive Repair. They sent me to another station. That station warned i would not pass. Smog Hut was my 4th station. I have to let you all know that this wasn't my first stop to smog my 1997 Camry. I took my car to a place on San Carlos that enticed me with a coupon. I believe it was San Jose Star Smog Check. When I got there they told me the coupon could not be used because I had an older vehicle. I have a 1997 Accord. The amount they wanted was about $80 if I remember correctly. And NOPE! I was not going to pay that. So, I started looking around for another smog shop. That's when I came across Smog Hut Star Station. I called and they said, "Come on in!" I messaged the shop prior to coming and was told I could come in anytime. I arrived on a Saturday afternoon and was helped immediately; the staff understood what I needed and quickly got to work. When it was time to pay, the person helping me asked if I had messaged on Yelp earlier and applied a discount without me asking--nice!
