We decided to try this restaurant because the menu looked good and were were tired of eating Johnny Rockets during our visits to Cliff. We also thought this was more of a fine dining experience, however, it was really not if you compare to any restaurants in the Phoenix metro area, which is where we live. The atmosphere was nice and the staff was fine, but the overall food was just ok. It is not worth the price and nothing to write home about. We both ended up sick from the dinner within a few hrs of eating. I was playing on a slot machine and felt extremely queasy all of a sudden and had to leave the machine. My fiance was also sick and complaining of his stomach being messed up around the same time as well. For the rest of the night we didnt feel well and we were perfectly fine before dinner. I am going to leave my "fine dining " experiences in the valley and stick to Johnny Rockets when visiting the cliff. This place is mediocre and expensive for what you get. PS...when ordering a steak Oscar style, you expect crab meat to be on the top, not a warmed up tiny crabcake that seemed like it came from a Sam's club box. read more

Storyteller's is a great steakhouse! Okay let me get the only negative out of the way. The restaurant is in a Casino. A smoked filled, casino. This is not Las Vegas and this isn't Bobby Flays. But, the food as I said above is great and we keep coming back! We have been here several times over the past four years. We have always come away believing that we just had a great meal and a great value. For many years on Sunday they also offered a 10% discount off your meals which was just another plus. The interior of the restaurant gives you the feel that you are in a cavern. We always liked it and thought it was a Nice touch. Storyteller's Steakhouse is a little gem tucked away in the back of a smokey casino. It was just what I needed to escape the circus atmosphere of the gambling crowd. It is a classy restaurant with an ample menu. We knew a starter would make it difficult to finish our meal, but we enjoyed the warm pumpernickel bread they served with a seasoned butter and whipped butter. I ordered the Kobe beef burger with a dinner salad. In addition, I choose their mashed potatoes with spinach, tomato and cauliflower. I was served an enormous patty, and an amble serving of the delicious potatoes and after the salad I could not finish the meal. My husband ordered the rack of ribs covered in a coffee barbecue sauce. Yep, coffee and it was a huge stack of delicious ribs (yes, I tried two) and it was served with potatoes au-gratin. Everything was wonderful and our only regret was that we were too full to order dessert. I had the chance to see their bread pudding being delivered to a fellow patron and it looked absolutely amazing. It was a huge portion of bread pudding topped with ice cream. Definitely, my loss. The restaurant is dark, back lit in red, making it very dramatic. It is cozy and one table is wonderfully placed beside a crackling fireplace. The service was prompt and our server was very friendly. I ordered the CIOPPINO (sautéed prawns, deep sea scallops, salmon, calamari, mussels, clams in a fisherman herb tomato broth served over linguini) The best lobster Mac and cheese too. Husband ordered a ribeye with the side baked potato, which he loved as well. A bit pricey but like everyone says "You get what you pay for." About $110 for two. Our waitress was named Margarita. Excellent service, very friendly and extremely knowledgeable. The head chef even came to ask all the customers seated about their food experience. Anyway. We stayed at the casino hotel and had dinner here. Reservations are recommended--a must for weekends. The manager has been there about two years. The focus is high quality food and attentive service. We started with the calamari with a chipotle-spiced dipping sauce. The calamari was nicely portioned, properly cooked, and the sauce was a great alternative to the standard marinara. A great start. My wife had the 10 ounce beef filet and I the 6 ounce beef filet with lobster tail. The meals come with bread, salad, seasonal vegetables, choice of potatoes (we both opted for the garlic mashed potatoes), and in the case of the beef a choice of sauce. The meals were presented flawlessly. The beef was to temperature, the lobster was properly cooked, and the vegetables were perfect. Good, fresh food properly cooked and presented well. You cannot help but enjoy the meal. The service was attentive but not intrusive. The manager clearly takes pride in how the restaurant is being run and rightfully so. The staff works quietly and politely to bring you a quality dining experience. We will definitely return to this gem. read more

We were pleasantly surprised when we walked into this smoke free oasis. Our meal was tasty, pretty and exceeded our expectations. Constant companion had surf and turf that was prepared very well. But not before having calamari with the best aioli we have ever had! Mine was the night's seafood special with linguine, mussels, shrimp and perfectly done scallop in a tasty sauce. My experience was delightful from start to finish. We were greeted by Gary. He showed us to our table and gave us a brief but detailed description of the concept of the restaurant and background of the chef. We were then greeted by our server, John, who provided a wonderful experience from start to finish. He was knowledgeable, friendly, and professional. As for the food? It was delicious! My mother had the lobster and filet and loved every bite. My filet was seasoned perfectly and cooked to perfection. And make sure to save room for dessert. The creme brulee is to die for. I will always order creme brulee if it's offered, and often it leaves something to be desired. But not here. It was absolutely divine! I will definitely be a returning guest. Atmosphere out of this world. You feel like you are dining in the cliffs. Lighting is soft, colors warm. Fresh warm bread and butter/ garlic butter to start. We were allowed to share an entree at no extra charge. We each got huge salads before meal. Fresh, crisp, delicious. The steak and lobster were fantastic. Meat cooked perfectly. Meant in your mouth. What an amazing find! Let me set the scene a little bit. My boyfriend walked in (like jerks), 30 mins to close. We had been enjoying the hot tub and planned poorly. We were met with absolute professionalism and grace. The food was to die for! Trey our server was very sweet and patient and understanding. Gary the manager suggested my new favorite red wine that perfectly paired with our seafood dinners. Side note: i am from Alaska and have had my fair share of seafood... i was blown away with the literally everything we ordered. From the fresh clams in the clam chowder, fresh baked ciabatta bread, the decadent scallops and the most beautiful sweet lobster tail. The chocolate layer cake was so rich we could hardly finish half of it. If you are traveling through camp verde it is most definitely worth a stop for dinner. It will now be our new tradition! The place is beautiful set in cave atmosphere. We had a romance pkg which gave us $107 credit to spend. The filet mignon was cooked perfectly. Comes with salad or soup one side and veggie. I had Parmesan crusted chicken which was perfect also. The baked potato was my only complaint as bacon not real and like little hard pebbles. No real butter only margarine, which to me is important. Really hard to understand some of these poor reviews? Tip top experience for us. I NEVER go to places this fancy or expensive so I was a little out of my element but it was a win all round! -the food was absolutely amazing (Chicken Picatta was the best I've ever had and my date had the surf and turf and said the steak/lobster was perfect.) -really neat ambiance (each booth is tucked away like you are eating in a cave nook with running water etc. and very cozy -Service was EXCELLENT! Our server was great and very friendly and joked with us and the manager (I assume?) was the same way. He came by several times to check on us. Chef also came out to visit and see how it was. Attentive but not overbearing. -It is NOT cheap (Chicken Picatta was $26 and I think surf and turf was like $40?) but definitely worth the price. With 2 glasses of wine and 2 entrees it was almost $100 for the 2 of us, but we knew the prices beforehand so it was all good. Great place for a special occasion, or an everyday meal is you are rich haha! Would definitely go again, if someone wants to foot the bill! =) read more

When we walked in, we were greeted with a Las Vegas-like replica of the inside of red rock canyon. Very cool. It was pretty dark, and when we opened our menus, their backlighting illuminated! Again, cool. On to the food. The salads were excellent even though they were rabbit food (spinach leaf) rather than green salad, garnished with fresh cucumbers and tomatoes. The bread was different and quite good, offered with herb butter and/or plain butter. The main courses of salmon, and petite fillet with shrimp, were both superb, without equivocation. The very best meal ever at a casino. A great value. I am very impressed. The service was good, not quite Ritzy, but still quite good. And at one-third the price of most top-tier steakhouses! All the praise I had heard was all justified! This place is a winner. P.S. Be sure to look for it at the Cliff's Casino. We had such a nice dining experience! Kudos to the maitre d' who magically found blue cheese for stuffing olives for our martinis! All the staff we encountered were welcoming and attentive. Hubby had the NY strip which was perfectly cooked to his liking of "between rare to medium rare, but more on the rare side". He also had the Caesar salad which was two halves of lightly grilled romaine topped with a balsamic olive oil dressing and parmesan flakes. He likened it to a savory Caesar wedge salad and said it was amazing and he isn't usually a salad lover. His loaded baked potato was great, along with the side veggies. It was hard to choose between the wild caught salmon and the scallops, which ended up as the winning choice. The scallops were perfectly finished with a delicious sauce that combined well with the side veggies. The entrees come with a choice of soup or salad, and another side choice. I had the salad and was pleased with it. I appreciated the thinly sliced watermelon radish. My side dish was the heavenly lobster Mac and cheese. Heavenly; no other way to describe it! We weren't wild about the bread, which is ciabatta, but it's probably a good thing because we would have filled up on that and not been able to enjoy our wonderful meal! The prices are reasonable. We sat in a cozy booth. The decor is a rock cave which reminded me of a beautiful wedding dinner we attended in Napa that was held in a wine cave. We are staying at the casino hotel during the latter part of our trip so we are looking forward to having dinner at Storyteller again soon! read more

Alright my family and I were looking for a place to eat dinner for a birthday and we ended up trying this place didn't know what we walked into. This place seemed a bit fancy if you will also had a laid back type of feel to it dim lights soothing music. We get sat in the middle as we have seven in our group also we were the first ones in. Looking at the menu I was a bit disappointed to find there was no fries I like fries with my steak but it is a "steakhouse" after all but we ordered our drinks and our food we waited about 15 mins for our drinks *non alcoholic * and proceeded to wait an additional 25-45 mins for our food mind you we were the first ones here and to order. Group of three got their food 15 before we did I'm thinking ok we have a big group oh well this steak is gonna make up for it received our food after what felt like an hour I ordered the porter house bone in ribeye with the mixed seasoned veggies and seasoned potatoes. Let me tell you I've eaten at some rather nice steakhouses in the past they always deliver a delicious steak but here that's a big no they should be ashamed to call this place a "steakhouse" there was little to no flavor steak was super dry who ever made the steak should give up their position. The steak was most definitely not worth the $50+ I paid for it as for the server he was very professional very friendly so were the other two ladies but unfortunately I won't be returning to this establishment read more

Well, don't know quite what to say. Made the reservation a week in advance at Storytellers Steakhouse before the Darius Rutker concert. Checked in 10 mins before our reservation at 5:50pm. They seemed very distracted, including the GM of the restaurant. Got seated 5 mins. late. No problem, but the waitress commented once seated said it will be 20 mins. before she can get to us. I told my wife WTF ? Just watched her servicing her 15 other customers. Noticing our waitress, she's servicing 17 customers. Thats too many customers for one waitress. This restaurant is frankly under staffed, and that's the GM's responsibility. Ordered Steak & Lobster, Filet Mignon, etc. An hour later, no dinner or drinks were served. Hence, we're the fu** out of here. Not to mention, had to get our Cocktails by going out side of the restaurant to the Casino Bar twice because the waitress was too busy. This Restaurant is a joke in slow motion. Complained to our hostess "Laura" and she was fantastic yet frustrated herself. Our waitress, who I handed a $20 buck tip for being over worked, was frustrated too and she said our dinner will be out soon, that would have been 1hr 20mins, after we arrived at the restaurant. So, we walked out to get to the concert. I'll be big here. The GM, needs to be fired ! Sorry but as a business you need to have more attentive service by increasing your service staff. So, we're still hungry, onto Johnny Rockets after the concert or anywhere else. BTW, we're locals in the VOC. My wife mentioned we had this bad service last time when we came for the Band Perry Concert over a year ago. I forgot about that. Being from NYC and Los Angeles and been to many, many Restaurants in my life, the bad service is at the top of being bad. This place is a joke. The Native Americans owning Cliff Castle, get rid of your current Restaurant management and take control of your Casino's Premium Restaurant. Promote "Laura", she cares ! As you can see, I'm pissed off and hungry. so forgive me. The food how ever looked great as we were exiting. The Restaurant's Chef looks like he knows what he's doing. Wish my wife and I tasted our meal. This management / service is BAD, BAD, BAD !!!!!!! Picnic basket before Concert next time. Thats my take away. Sorry, for the rant. My bead and butter were fantastic, and salad before we got up and left. An hour and 10mins later. As a closing note, got a $8 Hamburger in the Stargazer Pavilion. So now we're full. This was probably the most disappointing experience ever. My fiancé and I don't get out often to spend time together alone without our 6 kids and this was a date night for us in a long time. We drove up from the valley to stay at Cliff Castle Casino which this restaurant is located inside menu is expensive but like I said this was our night. Upon walking into the restaurant we were greeted very nice and seated in very private low lighted cave booth. The server was pleasant and accommodating up until our tea and sodas and our salads were served and as I was pouring oil and vinegar on my salad a server ran into another server carrying a beer and the beer dumped all over our table getting me wet and my purse. I didn't want our night ruined so I didn't make such a fuss I figured the management would step up to their duties but that did not happen in this case. The server Apologies were given but my night and my mood went from happy good to smelling like beer and disappointed they didn't make our evening better. The food was brought out and I'm going to say it was not to my liking at all. Too much garlic, butter and cream in every dish we ordered. It's sad because the restaurant is super neat and laid out but I will not go back. If they change it to a Fresh Fish and Steak House maybe go back but I was not impressed by the chef's dishes. And I won't be back based off being spilled beer on and appetite ruined and we didn't even eat our plates we maybe took taste from each dish and sent it back to the kitchen. It has all the trappings of a fancy steakhouse: pleasant, intimate setting, white shirted waiters/waitresses who do a good job with what they have to work with, and a relatively limited, chop-heavy menu. But one problem: it's just not that good. Every stop along the way we remarked at how mediocre everything was, from the extremely limited wine list to the white bread to the bland appetizers and salads. The setting just can't make up for the food. However, the biggest sin was committed with the steaks we had: a little tough, clearly not cooked hot enough (no char at all), and all around pretty flavorless. At the end, we were full, and we had a good experience with the service and setting, but it just was not that good. I know there's not much to choose from in Camp Verde, but we'll go elsewhere next time...maybe even elsewhere inside the Cliff Castle. read more

My husband and I had a great experience at Storytellers. Margarita was our server and she took great care of us from the minute we walked in. We ordered the crab cakes as an appetizer and they were some of the best I've ever eaten. We shared the evening seafood special and it was delicious and perfectly prepared. With the main course we both chose their cream of mushroom soup as a side. It was heavenly! We were celebrating an anniversary so they topped off this perfectly delectable meal by comping a serving of delicious creme brulee! While we were there, two other members of their wait staff came to our table and spent time visiting with us and making us feel so appreciated..... ALSO, the chef came out and thanked us for coming, which gave us the opportunity to express our satisfaction with our meal! We couldn't have been more pleased! read more
