We agreed that the bread is usually hard and crumbly at other places but here it was surprisingly a little fluffy past the crunchy layer. Perfect appetizer. My brother and I both had the minestrone soup. So flavorful and satisfying! My sister-in-law said her Beef Stracotto was perfectly cooked. She only had a small piece so my hubby and son enjoyed the leftovers. They loved dipping the bread in the rich sauce. I tried a couple bites of the combo pizza. It was delicious and my son was very happy with it. I had one of the specials of the day, a Meatloaf Sandwich with pasta salad. I've usually had coleslaw inside of a BBQ pork, chicken, or fish sandwich. But the combo of tangy coleslaw with tender meatloaf was fantastic and creative. The bread was soft and fluffy. I was full from appetizers and dessert, so took most of my sandwich home for dinner. Portions are big and satisfying. Always love Strings. Went this past week and ordered my favorite Pasta Siena. It was not the same taste. Was missing the pepper flakes and the sauce was a little different in taste. Since I am on a low carb diet, I was very pleased they had items marked on the menu "low carb" and provided zoodles (spiral zucchini) as an option for pasta. I had the chicken bruschetta, which was a great proportion size, chicken was good and loved the balsamic, it was very heavy on the basil. Husband had the fettuccini Alfredo and stated the sauce wasn't that great. We have ate here before and he has always liked the Alfredo, just not today. This restaurant has been on my list to try for a little while. Decided to visit on a Saturday night. The restaurant is clean and well lit. The majority of customers were dining families. Our server was very attentive and pleasant. My order came with a salad, which I enjoyed. There was also bread included but no olive oil / balsamic to accompany it. I ended up trying the chicken picatta, which comes with broccoli and mashed potatoes. The mash potatoes were well seasoned. The broccoli was fine. I was somewhat disappointed with the lack of flavor and portion size of the chicken picatta. The chicken breast was small and perhaps needed more capers. The sauce covering it was bright yellow but had no flavor. My wife had the salmon pescattora which she enjoyed very much. Service was excellent, food was delicious, the fresh baked focaccia bread was so crunchy on the outside and soft and chewy in the inside. I had the lobster bisque, which was not what I expected: not as thick, but it was piping hot and well seasoned and my friends had the house salad and dressing, which was also very good, especially the house dressing. I ordered the shrimp and chicken with a white sauce over noodles and topped with tomatoes, seasoning was very good. I think it was called "Ciara". But after having the soup and bread and water with lemon, I was too full to eat my main course, so I have a delicious lunch for the next day! I recommend this restaurant to try for yourself. I really really love strings and have for many years. Our family has gone there, but something has changed with the sauces. I had the pasta sienna and my sauce was runny not thick like it used to be and not as full of curry like it used to be and my husband had lasagna and his lasagna didn't have that deep rich sauce, like it used to have something has changed with the sauce sauces I'm not what but their salads are absolutely wonderful. I ordered it because I LOVE SUN DRIED TOMATOES in pasta, guess what you get FRESH TOMATOES. i told the waitress and she suggested "we can saute some sundried and give it to you on the side" So you do have it on stock but decided to replace the ingredient without notice to the customer. I ordered Sunday dinner here through Door Dash. I had not enjoyed their food since they remodeled. I was pleased that at the time, they were offering a large percentage off before 6pm for their entrees. I decided to try the Lasagna and Tortellini combo with a cup of minestrone soup. The minestrone soup tasted great. Not salty and the perfect blend of vegetables and seasoning. However, the tortellini stole the show for me! It had a delightful cheesy sauce and along with the lasagna I was in italian dinner heaven! They also included some of their bread which was lightly toasted and seasoned. The food was excellent. The salad was exquisite, the bread was divine, the drinks were on the dot, the only thing that that's wrong is the pasta. Not only my fettuccine Alfredo was bland, but it had a consistency of Campbell's creamy chicken soup. And the reason that it was bland is, there's not enough Parmesan, let alone no nutmeg, and black pepper. That's the key to making a great Alfredo sauce. And the consistency was gloppy, not the smooth velvety texture, of what a nice creamy sauce, that Alfredo is supposed to be about. Also, the service was a little catty wonky, because they only brought those green zucchini noodles out, without the fettuccine pasta being in it as well. Which is what I originally intended to get. But I'll let it slide this time. Hope that next time you'll do a lot better and make what I had more flavorful than this time. Thank you. read more

Got a craving for their peperoni calzone last night and I was shocked to see that I haven't updated this review in like 10 years! I can't believe how long I have been coming here. This place is a staple in Lodi. I loved the old Tuscan vibe of the resturaunt but the remodel is truely lovely; super sleek, clean and modern. If you have time, I suggest dining in as they are always generous with salad and bread but I always seem to be in a rush! My calzone was delicious as always, though it seems to be filled with less and less pepperoni over the years and for me to pay $17 for a take out calzone, you know it has to be good. It's been a long while since i was at a String's. Based on the sunday night crowd they are popular. Busy but seated quickly by pleasant hostess. Greeted by our server Lyndsay who was pleasant and did a great job. Ordered chianti and breaking bud. they do have several wines and beers to select from. Reviewed menu and asked our server for reco and she said the shrimp scampi and salmon over angel hair was her favorite. So I ordered asked for some capers to be added. I frequent this restaurant and have noticed a few changes over the years that make me believe it's no longer worth dining here. Most notably, there are menu changes without the menu actually being modified, there is no longer freshly grated parmesan (they will offer you parmesan cheese and bring out the same dried cheese shaker you expect to see at a pizza joint), less complimentary bread is given, and no offer of refills. Nice ambience, good food, but bad service! We have not been to Strings in years and decided to go for dinner recently. First of all, it took a while for the server to initiate contact with us, but when she did she never introduced herself. We ordered our meals, and when they came out, we had to ask for Parmesan Cheese. I thought at a nicer Italian restaurant it would be standard procedure to offer this condiment. When we asked, she brought out a jar of cheese that you would find on the table at a pizzeria. We had two of four water glasses empty that never got refilled the entire time. When we started getting our meals brought out, the table was getting full of used bread and salad dishes. In an effort to get them removed from the table, we stacked them and placed them at the end of the table. The server brought the final plate quite a bit later than the others (4-5 minutes) and ignored the extra dirty dishes at the edge. When she returned again we asked her to take them away so we could have space. She still never offered or brought water. Then she brought out the bill without offering dessert, which we decided we wanted. When ordering dessert, I asked if some desserts are made in house. She just said, "Some are." Well, which ones?? It was just very disappointing. When we were preparing to leave, I saw a bus boy tending to another table with water refilling. So I was very confused why we didn't get that. It felt like every service we got we had to ask for. The server was not attentive to her table's needs at all. For spending nearly $100, the service was extremely lacking. I drove from Brentwood for bad service. I know this world is turned upside down, but if you're in the service industry, you should serve people accordingly. We were at supper this evening when a rolling blackout hit...again. We had just received our food. We finished in the dark. Service was exactly on point. They did a great job under the conditions. Our server cam to our table and explained their systems were down so supper was on them. We offered to pay with cash but she insisted their treat, apologized and wished us a great evening. While the restaurant did take it in the shorts for which we feel bad, we tipped well so the servers would at least have something. After everything that has gone on it was really crummy for them to lose a nights business like this. This is likely the same situation for all the restaurants around there. I would request if you were out at strings tonight and they comped you, please return and give them your business. Been going to Strings for years. I always order the Tortellini alla Panna. Just got dinner from the Lodi restaurant this evening for first time this year. Unfortunately they seem to have changed the recipe. It used to be to have prosciutto, which was my favorite flavor in the dish. It now has cubed smoked ham. It was gross. Hopefully they will change back to the Italian version and not the cut up American ham steak one. Even bacon would be way better. The smoked ham just doesn't taste right. read more

It was a cold Friday evening and we were not interested in eating out. I called and placed an order for Tortellini Alla Panna and Baked Italian Combo. The woman who answered the phone was extremely helpful. When we arrived to pick up our food, I was glad that we decided to eat at home. There was a constant stream of people going into the restaurant, apparently to dine-in. The meals came with a green salad and bread. Tortellini was in a delicious white sauce. I used a piece of bread to make sure that I got all the sauce. Baked Italian Combo was meat and cheese lasagna with two nice sized meatballs in a red meat sauce. Every part of the meal was very good. We will go back to Strings Italian Cafe to enjoy menu items that we did not order this time. read more
